A PUBLIC SPACE FOR EVERYONE Think of a place where everyone is welcome, and it doesn’t cost anything to get in. It is a place where you can come exactly as you are and seek refuge from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Out of conversations with people, ideas are born and you discover something new. In this place you are welcome to share your own ideas, experience and skills. When you leave, you feel like you’re part of something bigger, like you know and understand a little bit more about the society we live in.

The library can be this place; a social space where we share stories, culture, and experiences. If you have yet to discover this place, come visit and take part in shaping it with us. We are open.

The space is equipped with iMac computers with music programs and Adobe Creative Suite for all kinds of photo and design projects. Árbær At the Makerspace in Árbær guests are welcome to sew, mend and make patterns. There are two regular sewing machines and one Overlock machine that people can use as they please.

Gerðuberg The opportunity for the younger generation to experiment and create. This space has all kinds of exciting things like a 3D printer, Raspberry Pi computers, a badge maker and a vinyl cutter. All instructions can be found on site.

SCHOOL VISITS The Reykjavik City Library offers a variety of education and entertainment for preschool and primary school groups.

Sleipnir Odin’s eight-footed horse Sleipnir knows all about poetry, fairy tales, and how to let our imaginations run wild. The avid reader greets children at the library and takes part in story time with them.

Little Libraries Little libraries are mobile Libraries that we lend to preschools in Reykjavik. Children can check out books and enjoy a cosy time reading at home with their families.

Storytime with Zeta Zeta is a book creature that lives at the library. She welcomes children to story time, listens to stories with them and teaches them all about the library and how to take proper care of books.

The Story Mobile Æringi The storyteller Sóla is behind the wheel and can play a variety of characters. She visits school children and invites them into Æringi for an exciting story time.

The Library Mystery Students solve an exciting mystery which introduces them to the library and the diverse collection that is available to them at the library in their neighbourhood.

OKið

Students are invited to visit Vigdís Finnbogadóttir’s home, as it has been set up in Gerðuberg for an exhibition based on Rán Flygenring’s book Vigdís. Bókin um fyrsta konuforsetann.

OKið is an interactive space in Gerðuberg where children can attend a variety of workshops on technology, global warming, creative arts, and literature.
