It is a privileged opportunity to recapitulate what has been achieved, celebrate its editorial health at the end of another year of work and position us for the future. Although we will still have to wait for an in-depth historical, sociological, and bibliographic study on the role played by the Journal within its impact, something had to be done to highlight the anniversary.

Eight years ago, with anxiety and emotion, ready to open a new window to the world, Border Heritage Magazine was born. Today, we no they continue ready to propose different points of view, eager to fill the days with news, stories, emotions, smiles, opinions, and news, united to give readers a new alternative that transmits and transcends our feelings.

They have been telling stories for eight years, learning about the importance of the region, writing, excited by content that reaches the newsroom, visiting events, doing what is for us the most optimal in photography and design, and smiling at successes and mistakes that surprise us day by day.

Eight years later, Border Heritage Magazine continues to look up, with more courage, smarter, and more desire.

With the impulse of all our work team, as well as clients, colleagues, and friends.

One more than a proud year we thank all those who now occupy a place in our pages and those who have made it possible.

Thanks to the collaborators, and to those who follow us on our digital platforms. We can assure you that we have enjoyed this path year after year and we are sure that our commitment and objective continue to be transmitted, raising the social and cultural heritage that our environment has.

Resulta una ocasión privilegiada para recapitular sobre los logros obtenidos, celebrar su salud editorial al cumplir un año más de trabajo y posicionarnos frente al futuro. Aunque tendremos que esperar todavía para un estudio histórico, sociológico y bibliográfico en profundidad sobre el papel desempeñado por esta Revista dentro de su impacto pero algo había que hacer para resaltar la efeméride.

Hace ocho años, con ansiedad y emoción, preparados para abrir una nueva ventana al mundo, nació Border Heritage Magazine. Hoy en día, continuamos listos para proponer diferentes puntos de vista, con ganas de llenar los días de noticias, de historias, de emociones, de sonrisas, de opiniones, de novedades, unidos para darle a los lectores una nueva alternativa que transmita, y que trascienda nuestro sentir.

Son ocho años contando historias, enterándose de lo importante de la región, escribiendo, emocionados por contenido que llega a la redacción, visitando eventos, realizando lo que es para nosotros lo óptimo en fotografía y diseño y sonriendo de aciertos y errores que nos sorprenden día a día.

Ocho años después, Border Heritage Magazine sigue mirando hacia adelante, con más ánimo, más listos, con más ganas… Con el impulso de todos tanto nuestro equipo de trabajo, como clientes, compañeros y amigos.

Un año más, que orgullosos damos las gracias a todos los que ahora ocupan un lugar en nuestras páginas y a los que lo han hecho posible.

Gracias a los colaboradores, y a los que nos siguen en nuestras plataformas digitales. The CEO of Flowar Construction, Mrs. Patricia F. Warnock, Ben Arriola of Southwest University, Paul Dipp of Economy Cash and Carry, and Hector Enriquez of PNC Bank talked about their work experiences with local businessmen, to contribute, and give ideas and strategies for their businesses to grow.

Capilla Misión de San José CIUDAD JUÁREZ, CHIHUAHUA

Con la fundación de la Misión de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en 1659, inicia la labor de conversión de los indios Manso y Suma en Paso del Norte. Dicho sistema fue reforzado en 1680, cuando se replegó el Gobernador de la provincia de Nuevo México Antonio de Otermín con toda su gente a este sitio, a causa de la rebelión de los indios Pueblo. Este movimiento genera el inicio del proceso de colonización en esta región, fundamental en el trayecto del Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, vía de comunicación entre la ciudad de México, capital de la Nueva España, con Santa Fe, Nuevo México.

En 1760 el obispo de Durango D. Pedro Tamarón y Romeral hace su primera visita a Paso del Norte, de alguna manera quería instituir definitivamente la secularización de toda la región, argumentando que ya no se justificaba el sistema misional, esto impediría que San José llegara a ser misión. En 1780 llega Ignacio Azcarate y se establece a legua y media de El Paso y junto con otros agricultores establecen el “Pueblito de San José”, construyendo un oratorio cerca de la acequia del pueblo y del “puente de los indios”. En este punto concluía el sendero de las dunas, trayecto oriental del Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, y era una de las dos entradas a Paso del Norte.

Para mediados del siglo XIX se incrementa la actividad en este sitio, sobre todo con la secularización de la Misión de Guadalupe, de ahí que el matrimonio formado por Marcelino Díaz y Manuela Azcarate le dan forma de capilla al oratorio, de esa manera el obispo de la diócesis de Durango Don José Antonio Laureano de Zubiria, expidió un Título a favor de ellos el 20 de diciembre de 1862, en donde le concedía autorización al cura Ramón Ortiz para que bendijera la capilla de San José, recientemente construida, y así pudiera celebrarse la santa misa.

A causa de la persecución francesa, Benito Juárez viene a refugiarse a Paso del Norte, y en su segundo arribo por la tarde del 18 de diciembre de 1865, entró por el “Puente de los indios”, como consta en el periódico oficial del gobierno No. 1, Tomo 2, señalando a este punto “El pueblito”, un caserío dedicado a labores agrícolas y que tenía su capilla y un naciente panteón particular. Desde entonces, hasta que fueron delineadas las calles, el recorrido hasta el centro de la ciudad se le llamó Camino Nacional.

En septiembre de 1900 Inocente Ochoa adquirió en propiedad la capilla de San José, así como la casa y terreno anexo situados al frente de dicha capilla (Como costa en el Registro Público de la Propiedad, inscripción número 74, folio 112 del Libro 6), al Sr. Jesús D. Maese, quien a su vez las compró al Sr. Calixto Azcarate, el mismo que las recibió en 1898 por disposición testamentaria de la señora Manuela Azcarate viuda de Jaquez, de esta manera la capilla y el panteón pasaban a ser de un solo propietario.

La capilla de San José era un recinto auxiliar de la función misional de la Misión de Guadalupe -como lo fue también San Lorenzo y San Elizario-, atendiendo a los indios asentados en el pueblito, y a partir de 1862 su función es totalmente secular, incluso establece un camposanto que llegará a sepultarse en el, cuerpos de las familias más prominentes de Paso del Norte. Sin embargo, su forma y elementos arquitectónicos indujeron a que la gente le llamara misión y es así como se le identifica hasta el día de hoy.

En el panteón ubicado a espaldas de la capilla, están sepultados los restos de personajes ilustres que forjaron la sociedad en el siglo XIX, de Paso del Norte a Ciudad Juárez, tales como: el padre Ramón Ortiz, el Dr. Mariano Samaniego, el juarista Inocente Ochoa, y el Padre Antonio Severo Borrajo. Ahí también están enterradas las dos esposas de Inocente Ochoa, su hija y dos hermanos. Igualmente, la esposa del Dr. Samaniego y tres de sus hermanos. Se tiene referencias de que, en este camposanto, también fueron inhumados Alexander Daguerre y su esposa Refugio Samaniego Delgado, hermana del Dr. Mariano Samaniego.

A partir de los años 1920, a causa de los constantes desbordamientos de la acequia del Pueblo el sitio fue abandonado, hasta el año 1975 cuando los frailes dominicos dirigidos por el padre Justo Jiménez lo rescataron. La capilla esta catalogada por el INAH como monumento histórico nacional, lo cual permite su conservación con mantenimiento constante. La capilla y el Panteón de San José se ubican en la calle Francisco Márquez 2287, esquina con Camino Viejo a San José, Fraccionamiento Reforma, Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua.

Telemundo así, mostró su nueva casa en medio de una ceremonia protocolaria y el tradicional corte de listón, se daba la bienvenida con representantes de la cadena NBC y los titulares de los noticieros como Carlos Sánchez, Karla Mariscal e Ivette Sánchez, además de los conductores de los segmentos de deportes, Emmanuel Esparza, y la Autoridad en el Tiempo, Joselyne Ortega, al igual su director de noticias Alejandro Pariente quienes atendieron a los invitados.

Ahora bajo el nombre de "Noticias Telemundo 48", perteneciente a la cadena NBCUniversal, ofrece desde hoy una visión interna de sus nuevas instalaciones, que ahora ocupan el primer lugar en tecnología de punta y herramientas avanzadas, entre las televisoras locales.

En el evento se realizaron recorridos de manera grupal, para conocer la excelente infraestructura sus áreas de producción, transmisión y el estudio donde se realizan los noticieros, ahora se espera un resultado óptimo en mejora de la recopilación de noticias y la publicación de contenido. Tecnología de vanguardia con lo último en tecnología IP y basada en la nube, junto con herramientas avanzadas de redacción para la estación. Los directivos de NBCUniversal dieron a conocer que las nuevas instalaciónes son la más avanzadas tecnológicamente en El Paso, que se encuentra dentro de la región DMA conocida como (Área de mercado designada), en las que la empresa   de medición de mercados Nielsen mide la visualización de la televisión local. Además, el trabajo que se lleva a cabo en múltiples plataformas que fueron construidas exclusivamente para NBCUniversal Local.

En su participación el presidente y director general de KTDO, Andrew Deschapelles Aseguró, “estamos orgullosos de que nuestros empleados trabajen desde este increíble espacio para crear y entregar la programación de noticias locales de primera clase que nuestra comunidad merece”.

“As the University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC of El Paso) celebrates its many accomplishments this year, the University Medical Center Foundation of El Paso (the Foundation) salutes the hospital’s evolution into a top-notch healthcare system,” Dr. Abigail Tarango, the Foundation’s Executive Director, expressed.

The Foundation, a 501(C)(3) non-profit corporation that functions as the program development and philanthropic champion for UMC of El Paso, is honored to serve the region of far West Texas and Southern New Mexico – a 350-mile radius.

The Foundation embraces the philosophy of serving all who come to UMC of El Paso regardless of their ability to pay. The hospital programs supported by the Foundation exemplify the success of this longstanding partnership. Take, for example, the Sobreviviendo el Cáncer/Surviving Cancer program, which has helped over 300 patients in the last few years with crucial ancillary services. It is estimated that UMC of El Paso has served one out of every two El Pasoans.

Dedicated to supporting UMC of El Paso’s service lines, the Foundation plays a crucial role in tapping into resources that help provide patients with high-quality healthcare services. With its dedicated staff, community partners, corporate sponsors, donors, and a cadre of volunteers, the Foundation hosts fundraisers throughout the year and acquires both private and public grants. “Donations, large and small, make all the difference in the world.” Rebecca Friesenhahn, the Foundation’s Director of Operations, said. “We depend on the community’s involvement and generosity in helping our UMC healthcare system meet the needs of the region.”

“UMC of El Paso’s growth in the last decade is impressive,” Dr. Tarango said. “UMC’s Outpatient Clinics are strategically located throughout the El Paso service area and provide affordable, patient-centered healthcare for the whole family.”

This year, UMC of El Paso purchased the now-defunct Legent Hospital, which will soon serve as UMC Surgical Hospital, providing inpatient and outpatient surgeries for elective procedures. The newly-acquired campus will have 40 beds, six operating rooms, two gastrointestinal suites, one cath lab, imaging services, and a laboratory. Twenty of the inpatient beds will be for telemetry care patients.

Additionally, UMC of El Paso will enhance its critical cancer care services later this year. By providing leading-edge care, lifesaving research, and state-of-the-art facilities, UMC of El Paso will be better able to help cancer patients bridge through the equity gap and get the treatment they need without leaving El Paso.

“The Foundation applauds UMC of El Paso for its bold and unwavering service to the region,” Dr. Tarango added. “We stand ready to support our community’s hospital and all these new endeavors.”

"Mientras el hospital University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) celebra muchos logros este año, la Fundación de University Medical Center of El Paso (la Fundación) brinda homenaje a la evolución del hospital hacia un sistema de atención médica de primer nivel," expresó la Dra. Abigail Tarango, Directora Ejecutiva de la Fundación.

La Fundación, una corporación sin fines de lucro que funciona para el desarollo de programas y filantropía de UMC, tiene el honor de servir a la región del oeste de Texas y el sur de Nuevo México, en un radio de 350 millas. La Fundación adopta la filosofía de servir a todos los que vienen a UMC, independientemente de su capacidad de pago. Los programas hospitalarios apoyados por la Fundación ejemplifican el éxito de esta asociación por largo tiempo. Tomemos, por ejemplo, el programa Sobreviviendo el Cáncer/Surviving Cancer, que ha ayudado a más de 300 pacientes en los últimos años con servicios de auxilio cruciales. Se estima que UMC ha servido a uno de cada dos habitantes en el condado de El Paso.

"El crecimiento de UMC en la última década es impresionante", dijo la Dra. Tarango. "Las clínicas ambulatorias de UMC están ubicadas estratégicamente en diferentes ubicaciones en El Paso y brindan atención médica accesible y centrada en el paciente para toda la familia".

Este año, UMC compró el hospital Legent, que pronto servirá como hospital de cirujía de UMC, proporcionando cirugías a pacientes hospitalizados y ambulatorios para procedimientos electivos. El campus recién adquirido tendrá 40 camas, seis quirófanos, dos suites gastrointestinales, un laboratorio de cateterismo, servicios de imágenes y un laboratorio. Veinte de las camas para pacientes hospitalizados serán para pacientes con atención de telemetría.

Además, UMC mejorará sus servicios críticos de atención del cáncer a finales de este año. Al proporcionar cuidado médico, investigaciónes que salvan vidas e instalaciones de vanguardia, UMC podrá ayudar mejor a los pacientes con cáncer a superar la brecha de equidad y obtener tratamiento que necesitan sin salir de la ciudad.

A Royalty love Story Edimburgo

Walking through the streets of Scotland is to find stories of kings and great battles, the old Edinburgh with buildings of centuries of construction and its castle perched on top of an extinct volcano as a fortress transport you and make you want to continue discovering. Its tall buildings of solid stone, its institutions, and its atmosphere are seen in novels that have been made into movies, but the reality surpasses them by far, there is a halo of magic.

I spent only a few days in the city and that was enough for my part of my heart to stay in the city, because it is not only seeing but also feeling and enjoying. I ate delicious dishes prepared with fish, and I knew that its flavors are delicate and varied, the Haggis perhaps its most representative dish (lamb meat sausage), the vegetables harvested in nearby lands feel every bite, their local beer is delicious, although they prefer to accompany their dinners with wines, something that I will not forget in particular is the kindness of its people who are far from how cold they say they are The people of the Old Continent.

The Scots are these people who refuse to leave their traditions, a wedding or formal event in Scotland is not conceived without the clothing that characterizes a man from the rest of the world, they are known as "Kilts" which represents the national costume that they wear with pride, these are large pieces of wool similar to skirts that protected them from the cold in battles of past centuries and each checkered or tartan design It says enough about the clan or large family from which they come.

Their language is English and their accent is not easy to understand at first, but if you manage to start a conversation with its inhabitants, you will realize that they enjoy their lives, that they are people with a lot of culture who honor their origins and proudly live their past of battles that make them today heirs of noble and strong blood.

They are used to freezing temperatures and intense winters, my trip was a few weeks ago at the end of spring and the beginning of summer, and the cold without so much intensity was still present, but it was wonderful to see and know that in this season the sunsets can reach until 10 p.m. and people enjoyed small bars and restaurants, they like to be together and talk.

The Scottish textile industry through its large pieces of wool, which like its people is the very representation of nobility and pride that they carry with great humility, always willing to share millenary stories.

I was just out to witness a wedding between a dear Mexican friend of mine and her Scottish couple, the bride and groom and their male companions wore the traditional kilt, while the Mexican bride's companions wore emerald, green dresses, Yanet & John chose majestic place for this special day. "Dundas Castle was the venue for a spiritual ceremony to celebrate the union. The ceremony was attended by more than a hundred people, including family and close friends of the couple from distinct parts of the world, a fascinating mix of cultures. The following day, to the sound of mariachi, tequila, and sotol, it was the Mexican turn at the after-wedding party.

Edinburgh is a land of Kings, during my stay I was able to see the work and preparations to receive King Charles III and Queen Camilla in their second coronation ceremony, an unprecedented event that was worked on for months beforehand and could be seen in the main avenues of this majestic city.

I invite you to know this northern part of the United Kingdom, Scotland is a must, you will understand the respect that the royal family professes them, it was no coincidence that the newly appointed King Charles III was recently in a National Thanksgiving Service receiving honors and that the Princess of Wales took the applause when deciding to wear cobalt blue to the event, blue representing the color of your flag.

I have promised myself to return to Scotland to visit Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Inverness, it will not be a coincidence I have promised myself that I will walk again in Edinburgh along Victoria Street on a rainy day and with a good coffee.

Caminar por las calles de Escocia es encontrarte con historias de reyes y grandes batallas, el Antiguo Edimburgo con edificios de siglos de construcción y su castillo asentado en la cima de un volcán extinto a forma de fortaleza te transportan y te llevan a querer seguir descubriendo. Sus altos edificios de piedra sólida, sus instituciones y su ambiente se asoman en novelas que luego se han hecho películas, pero la realidad les supera por mucho, se respira un halo de magia.

Pasé solo unos días por la ciudad y con eso bastó para que mi parte de mi corazón se quedara en la ciudad, porque no solo es ver, es sentir y disfrutar. Comí deliciosos platillos preparados con pescado, supe que sus sabores son delicados y muy variados, el Haggis quizá su platillo más representativo (morcilla de carne de cordero), los vegetales cosechados en tierras cercanas se sienten a cada bocado, su cerveza local es deliciosa, aunque ellos prefieren acompañar sus cenas con vinos, pero algo que no voy a olvidar en particular es la amabilidad de su gente que dista mucho de lo frío que dicen son las personas del viejo continente.

Los escoceses son este pueblo que se resiste a dejar sus tradiciones, una boda o evento formal en Escocia no se concibe sin la indumentaria que caracteriza a un hombre del resto del mundo, se les conocen como “Kilts” que representa su traje nacional que portan con orgullo, se trata de grandes piezas de lana parecidas a faldones que les protegía del frío en batallas de siglos pasados y cada diseño a cuadros o tartán dice bastan de sobre el clan o gran familia de las que provienen.

Su idioma es el inglés y su acento no es fácil de entender al inicio, pero si logras entablar una conversación con sus habitantes, te darás cuenta de que disfrutan de su vida, que son personas con mucha cultura que honran sus orígenes y viven con orgullo su pasado de batallas que los hacen hoy ser herederos de sangre noble y fuerte.

Están acostumbrados a temperaturas congelantes e intensos inviernos, mi viaje fue hace algunas semanas al concluir primavera e iniciar el verano y el frío sin tanta intensidad seguía presente, pero fue maravilloso ver y saber que en esta temporada las puestas de sol pueden llegar hasta las 10 p.m. y la gente disfrutaba de pequeños bares y restaurantes, les gusta estar reunidos y conversar.

La Industria textil escocesa a través de sus grandes piezas de lana, que como su gente es la representación misma de nobleza y orgullo que portan con gran humildad, dispuestos siempre a compartir historias milenarias.

Justo estuve de paseo y para atestiguar una boda entre una entrañable amiga mexicana y su pareja de origen escoces, el portaba y los acompañantes varones lucieron el traje de gala tradicional kilt, mientras que las acompañantes de la novia mexicanas con vestido verde esmeralda, Yanet & John escogieron un lugar majestuoso para ese día tan especial. “Dundas Castle” fue la sede para a través de una ceremonia espiritual llevar a cabo la unión. En el cual acudieron más de un centenar de personas entre familiares y amigos allegados a la pareja de distintas partes del mundo, una fascinante mezcla de culturas. Al siguiente día al son del mariachi, tequila y sotol toco el turno mexicano en la torna boda. Edimburgo es una tierra de Reyes, en mi estancia me tocó ver trabajos y preparativos para recibir al Rey Carlos III y la Reina Camila en su segunda ceremonia de coronación, un evento sin precedentes y el cual se trabajó durante meses previos y se notaba en las principales avenidas de esta majestuosa ciudad.

Te invito a conocer esta parte norte del Reino Unido, Escocia es un punto obligado, entenderás el respeto que la familia real les profesa, no fue coincidencia que el recién nombrado Rey Carlos III estuviera recientemente en un Servicio Nacional de Acción de Gracias recibiendo honores y que la Princesa de Gales se llevara los aplausos al decidir vestir de azul cobalto al evento, azul que representa el color de su bandera.

Me he prometido regresar a Escocia, recorrer Glasgow, Aberdeen e Inverness, no va a ser casualidad, me he prometido que voy a caminar de nuevo en Edimburgo por la Calle Victoria en un día de lluvia y con un buen café.

The Alzheimer's Association held its anniversary celebration.

At a reception and with guests, collaborators, doctors, and friends, the Alzheimer's Association celebrated its 40th anniversary with a luncheon at the facilities of the El Paso Community Foundation, in El Paso, Texas.

The event honored Mrs. Denese Watkins, Stephanie Tantimónaco and Laura Tate Goldman for being part of this group and for their work and collaboration in this association.

Guests at the event applauded the work that the El Paso Alzheimer Association has done over the years.

La asociación de Alzheimer llevó a cabo el festejo de aniversario.

En una recepción y en medio de invitados, colaboradores, doctores y amigos, la asociación de Alzheimer celebró su 40 aniversario con un almuerzo en las instalaciones de El Paso Community Fundation, en El Paso Texas.

En el evento se honro a la Sra. Denese Watkins, Stephanie Tantimónaco y Laura Tate Goldman por ser parte de este grupo y por su trabajo y colaboración en esta asociación.

Invitados al evento aplaudieron la labor que ha realizado a lo largo de estos años  El Paso Alzheimer Association.

Thousands of participants were present in this tournament and today is assured was a great success for the participation and enthusiasm of children, youth, and adults, in favor of physical and mental health.

BIENESTAR FÍSICO Y SALUD MENTAL

With a healthy coexistence and a sports party atmosphere, the tournament, Copa Consulado 2023, was held to promote soccer among young people and children of this community.

Inside the facilities of Westside Sports Complex, located at 201 Isela Rubalcava Blvd, west of El Paso, the more than 100 participating teams played several rounds accompanied by coaches, referees, parents, and the public, who enjoyed the contest and did not stop cheering with cheers and shouts to the players on the court.

Consul General Mauricio Ibarra Ponce de León, emphasized that this tournament was planned to provide spaces and opportunities, to address the health and well-being of children and young people in addition to strengthening ties in a binational way, since the invitation to participate was open to both cities Juárez and El Paso, as well as to be able to hold recreation events in this border area. He assured that for the success and the response given in this first sporting event that is organized, next year they are ready to celebrate on May 5, with another tournament with the same characteristics.

Music, Mexican snacks, and service to the community are what surrounded the event and enjoyed the attendees who until today applaud the work done by this Consular House.

Con una convivencia sana y un ambiente de fiesta deportiva el torneo denominado Copa Consulado 2023, se realizó con el objetivo de promover el futbol soccer entre jóvenes y niños de esta comunidad.

Dentro de las instalaciones de Westside Sports Complex, ubicado en 201 Isela Rubalcava BLVD, al oeste de El Paso, los más de 100 equipos participantes jugaron varias rondas acompañadas de entrenadores, árbitros, padres de familia y público en general, quienes disfrutaron la contienda y no dejaron de alentar con porras y gritos a los jugadores en la cancha.

El Cónsul General Mauricio Ibarra Ponce de León, enfatizó que este torneo fue planeado para brindar espacios y oportunidades, para atender la salud y el bienestar de los niños y jóvenes además de fortalecer lazos de manera binacional, ya que la invitación a participar fue abierta para ambas ciudades Juárez y El Paso, así mismo poder realizar eventos de recreación en esta zona fronteriza. Aseguró que por el éxito y la respuesta dada en este primer evento deportivo que se organiza, el próximo año están listos para celebrar el 5 de Mayo, con otro torneo con las mismas características.

Música, antojitos mexicanos y servicio a la comunidad es lo que rodeaba al evento y que disfrutaron los asistentes quienes hasta hoy aplauden la labor realizada por esta casa Consular.
