It seems that all of us together in our community have put our efforts in trying to live with the desired normality, and to fill us again with life in all our activities.

Keeping the same spirit, where our goal is to maintain the usual segments, and bring you the best of our work; today we are proud to present a fashion artist such as Avelino Roque, who designed the regional costume worn by Andrea Meza, in the contest where she was the winner, Miss Universe 2021in last May. We would like to thank the team of la Casa Clandestina of El Paso, for opening their doors to us and showing us their famous exhibition “Centauro del Norte” at the border of Juarez and El Paso.

Also enjoy the cosmopolitan city of Miami; its urban landscape and its proximity to the sea, make this community a warm and special place.

stamos ya a la mitad del año y seguimos muy entusiasmados de ofrecer esta edición como parte de un mejor tiempo para todos. Al parecer todos juntos en nuestra comunidad hemos puesto nuestro empeño en procurar vivir con la deseada normalidad, y volver a llenarnos de vida en todas nuestras labores.

Manteniendo el mismo espíritu donde nuestro objetivo es realizar los segmentos acostumbrados, y llevarle a usted lo mejor de nuestro trabajo, hoy nos enorgullecemos de presentar a un artista de modas como lo es Avelino Roque, quien diseñó el traje regional que portó Andrea Meza, en el concurso donde resultara ganadora, Miss Universo 2021 el pasado mes de Mayo.

here are many businesses where their specialty is car care, and their goal is to offer optimal maintenance. Today we will talk about what started with the idea of opening a car’s Body Shop and has now become a full-service shop.

We visited Right Conexion Collision Center and talked with Daniel Dominguez, one of the partners, and he tells us: “The Shop was born eight years ago, we started with car repairs, and we called it Right Conexion, then we saw the opportunity to start selling cars, and Right Motors was born. Shortly after, this led us to create Sun City Repair, where we fix rims with the best technology, unique in El Paso.

Now, these three businesses are in one place, as they were once in different areas in El Paso.” With three specialties, customers prefer their quality.

“Our business grew thanks to the customers’ preference, but also because we work from sun up to sundown, and with a human work team that has supported us since then, the Right Conexión team is loyal to the company; we offer a comfortable and dignified work environment, they implement their knowledge to perform as an exchange of ideas.

Clients are satisfied, exceed their expectations, and come back because we offer an excellent service.

“In most cases, the business systems should be aimed at improving the service offered, and our goal is to have more quality and better control.

We have a team of 13 people who are the ones who are responsible for the cars look like new.”

Sun City Repair has the best technology for fixing rims; in the area, only a few shops have this innovation.

“We have been betting on giving the best service, and on achieving it, we modernize and place within our market better resources so that our customers know that in our shops, the results are optimal. For us, customer service and quality are important. Because of the personalized treatment, we treat our customers with kindness and respect.”

For Daniel Domínguez and Ricardo Alcalá, co-owners, the business’s success lies in achieving a team with incentives that make the three brands grow strong.

“There are two incentives that are a priority for our workers. The first is: to bring them closer as the family that we are, and the second is to support them according to their needs; but at the same time, we teach them is the value of honesty to make our business strong, and we give them incentives every week, living with them outside of work, we take them to do sports or spend an afternoon with them.”

The truth is that to achieve a consolidated team like the one that has remained for several years; it has had to be based on respect and creating a dignified and pleasant environment.

Hoy hablaremos de lo que comenzó con la idea de abrir un taller de pintura para coches y que ahora se ha convertido en un taller de servicio integral.

Contamos con un equipo de 13 personas que son las que se encargan de que los autos se vean como nuevos.”

“El negocio nació hace 8 años, comenzamos con reparación de autos, y le llamamos Right Conexion, entonces vimos que era necesario iniciar la venta de autos y nació Right Motors, esto también nos llevó al poco tiempo a crear Sun City Repair, donde arreglamos rines con la mejor tecnología, única en El Paso.

Ahora estos tres negocios están en un mismo sitio, ya que en su tiempo estuvieron en diferente área en El Paso.” Con tres especialidades, el equipo de trabajo hace que los clientes prefieran su calidad.

Sun City Repair tiene la mejor tecnología para el arreglo de rines, ya que en la zona son muy pocos los que cuentan con esta innovación.

Para los socios, Daniel Domínguez y Ricardo Alcalá, el éxito del negocio radica en haber logrado un equipo unido, agradable y con incentivos que hacen fuerte las tres marcas.

“Nuestro negocio creció gracias a la preferencia del público, pero también porque nosotros trabajamos de sol a sol, y con un equipo humano de trabajo que nos ha apoyado desde entonces, el equipo de Right Conexión es leal a la empresa; nosotros ofrecemos un ambiente de trabajo cómodo y digno, implementan sus conocimientos para realizarlos como intercambio de ideas.

“Hay dos incentivos que son prioridad para nuestros trabajadores. The magic City

T

o write about Miami is to write about a city, and at the same time a seaport, it is located in the southeast of Florida in the United States around the Miami River right between the Everglades and the Atlantic Ocean. The swamp area is a habitat for native species and is protected by the Everglades National Park.

Miami is a beautiful city with a lot of infrastructure and very cosmopolitan, where the diversity of people who live is mostly Latin and European.

Its metropolitan area encompasses more than 5.4 million inhabitants, making it the seventh-largest city in the United States. The United Nations has calculated that Miami has become the ninth-largest metropolitan area in the country. It is considered a city of great importance in finance, commerce, media, entertainment, art, culture, and international trade.

Miami is not only beaches and good weather; it is a city where art, design, and good walks make for an enjoyable stay.

In sports, it stands out as the home of one of the best motor racing competitions in the world, Nascar. Miami is the home of four major league teams: Miami Dolphins of the NFL, Miami Heat of the NBA, Miami Marlins of the MLB, and Florida Panthers of the NHL. In addition, there are other sports teams and events, as well as soccer clubs, tennis, greyhound racing, and golf courses, a sport with a long tradition in the state.

In the financial district of Brickell, life is fast-paced during the day and a good place for recreation at night. You can go shopping in the Brickell Center with an open and sophisticated architectural design very much in line with the big cities. It is ideal for taking a stroll and getting to know the area, and enjoying the demanding palate for connoisseurs since various restaurants are for all tastes.

The Design Center not only houses the big brands of clothing and exclusive jewelry, but we also find large firms in interior design, galleries, and delicious restaurants or bars such as MC Kitchen, the Mandolin, or the excellent Greek food, in addition to the open kitchen, with the classic signature cuisine and even the new food trucks.

There is another area worth admiring: Wynwood, where there are a series of urban murals. Every weekend an evening Art-Walk is organized for a walking tour and to taste the delicious kitchen fusions of several restaurants that open their doors to international tourism.

On the other hand, Art Basel is an art fair that fills this beautiful city with multidisciplinary events and exhibitions. Likewise, the Perez Art Museum hosts in its halls art exhibitions with Latin American style and flavor. At the same time, the Adrienne Arsh Center invites seasonally to attend concerts and dance festivals of international level.

Miami is also known for its architecture; its Art Deco buildings characterize the Ocean Drive area.

The city has buildings designed by great architects such as the recently deceased Zaha Hadid or the Mexican Enrique Norten, where the spaces and style make the avant-garde landscape shine. The real estate developments of prestigious brands such as Armani, Porche, and Aston Martin also stand out.

Es considerada una ciudad de mucha importancia en las finanzas, el comercio y los medios de comunicación, además de entretenimiento, arte, cultura y comercio internacional.

Miami no solo es mar y buen clima, es una ciudad donde el arte, el diseño y los buenos paseos hacen de una estancia realmente placentera.

En los deportes destaca como sede de una de las mejores competencias del mundo en automovilismo como lo es Nascar. En Miami tienen cuatro equipos de las grandes ligas norteamericanas: Miami Dolphins de la NFL, Miami Heat de la NBA, Miami Marlins de las MLB y Florida Panthers de la NHL. Es ideal para hacer un paseo y conocer la zona, además de disfrutar del paladar exigente para conocedores ya que existe una variedad de restaurantes para todos los gustos.

El Design Center no solo albergan las grandes marcas de ropa y joyería exclusiva, también encontramos grandes firmas en diseño de interiores, galerías y que decir de los deliciosos restaurantes o bares como: MC Kitchen, el Mandolin, o la excelente comida griega, además de la cocina abierta, con la clásica comida de autor y hasta las novedosas food trucks.

Existe otra área que es digna de admirarse: Wynwood, donde se encuentran una serie de murales urbanos. Cada fin de semana se organiza un Art-Walk nocturno, para recorrer una visita a pie y degustar de las fusiones deliciosas de varios restaurantes que abren sus puertas al turismo internacional.

La zona de los pantanos es un hábitat de especies nativas y actualmente está zona es protegida por el Parque Nacional de los ´Everglades´.

Miami es una ciudad bellísima con mucha infraestructura y muy cosmopolita, donde la diversidad de personas que habitan es en su mayoría latinasy europeas.

Su área metropolitana engloba más de 5.4 millones de habitantes, convirtiéndose en la séptima ciudad más grande de los Estados Unidos. Las Naciones Unidas han calculado que Miami se convirtió en la novena área metropolitana más grande del país.

utterfield Trail Golf Club hosted the Camino Real Rotary Club 10th. Annual Golf Tournament presented by Televisa El Paso.

Several sponsors like Charlie Clark Nissan, Inclusive Logistic, and CASA Buick/GMC supported the Club’s fundraising efforts for their social programs agenda. 140 Businessmen from El Paso, Ciudad Juarez, and Chihuahua played attended the Golf Invitational.

Marisol Treviño, Director of Square Communications that represents Televisa in El Paso mentioned: “For Televisa is a privilege to support non-lucrative organizations, by disseminating their social programs agenda. We confirm our commitment to being a local socially responsible Media Company.”

Besides playing golf, participants enjoyed different prizes such as Sotol bottles, trophies with golf figures from the well-known Jalisco artist Rodo Padilla’s, and the main award of the night: one million dollars sponsored by Televisa.

Jorge Rodriguez Berlanga, Director of Televisa Juarez, mentioned: “It is a great effort of the Camino Real Rotary Club to organize this Golf Invitational tournament; and, for us is important to join this effort for what they do for the community. We are pleased and grateful for this event and certainly for all their support and their social programs scheduled during the year benefitting this community”.

To closure the event, Gabino Tavera, President of the Camino Real Rotary Club, thanked everyone and invited all to join them in the next tournament and gave special thanks to all the sponsors for their support this year.

entro de las instalaciones del Butterfield Trail Golf Club se llevó a cabo el 10mo. torneo de Golf del Club Rotario Camino Real presentado por Televisa en El Paso.

Varios patrocinadores como Charlie Clark, Inclusive Logistic, Casa Buick GMC entre otros más que se sumaron al objetivo de recaudar fondos para los diferentes programas sociales de dicho Club. Entre los más de 140 jugadores, asistieron los más destacados empresarios provenientes de Ciudad Juárez, El Paso y la ciudad de Chihuahua.

“Para Televisa, es un honor apoyar a organizaciones no lucrativas en la difusión de sus diferentes programas sociales, reiterando nuestro compromiso como medio de comunicación, de ser una empresa local y socialmente responsable, aseguro Marisol Treviño, directora de Square Communications, la empresa representante de Televisa en la ciudad de El Paso.”

Los participantes además de hacer su juego, tuvieron la oportunidad de disfrutar de numerosos premios, como botellas de sotol de la región, trofeos realizados por Rodó Padilla, uno de los mejores artistas de Jalisco; y que decir del premio de la tarde y tan esperado por todos los jugadores como lo fue el de un millón de dólares, patrocinado por Televisa.

veryday in El Paso we see a thriving Restaurant Industry having new offerings and competition. A few months ago a new traditional Mexican Restaurant opened Morra Mía, it’s goal is to offer to their borderland clientele the traditional Mexican flavors both on their cuisine and drinks.

It’s name remembers a Mexican phrase and is also a romantic song performed by trios In serenades: “Novia Mia” is located in El Paso East Side, and works alongside Potzollcalli a leading Mexican Restaurant in Mexico well known for their pozoles and traditional mexican food.

Offering a pure mexican seasonings, Morra Mía makes a difference in quality, service, hygiene with their extensive variety of dishes that you can only find in one place. We were surprised by their facilities where you can find a corner of Mexico: Tony Azael and Juan Carlos Delgado mentioned: "We wanted to design something different, it is a modern facility, cozy and family oriented; we invite our clients to come to watch Football games and enjoy our Mexican drinks".

"Additionally is a restaurant built with Mexican materials and architecture, we like for our clients to feel comfortable and enjoy our facilities".

ada vez vemos en El Paso el empuje que tiene la industria restaurantera, año con año se encuentra en crecimiento y van apareciendo nuevas propuestas y competidores.

Lo cierto es que hace unos meses se abrió un restaurante de comida tradicional mexicana Morra Mía, su objetivo es ofrecerle al público fronterizo el sabor tradicional mexicano dentro de su menú de platillos y bebidas.

Su nombre hace alarde a una frase mexicana y hasta la encontramos en una canción, de esas que nos recuerdan a los grupos de tríos románticos para las serenatas “Novia Mía”. Encontrándose al este de El Paso, Morra Mía esta trabajando de la mano de una de las industrias restauranteras líderes en la venta y variedad de pozoles y especialistas en la comida tradicional mexicana, Potzollcalli.

Ofreciendo un sazón meramente mexicano, Morra Mía viene a hacer la diferencia en calidad, servicio, higiene y con una extensa variedad de platillos que pueden encontrarse en un solo lugar. Sus instalaciones nos sorprenden, cualquiera diría que debemos encontrar un lugar con las características de un rincón en Mexico: “Nos atrevimos a diseñar algo diferente, quisimos hacer un lugar un poco moderno pero al mismo tiempo acogedor y familiar; invitando al Público al restaurante y para que disfrute sus partidos de fútbol en las pantallas y también que disfrute de las bebidas mexicanas en el bar que tenemos”.

Nos comentó Tony Azael, y Juan Carlos Delgado socios del nuevo concepto.

“Además es un restaurante con algunos toques mexicanos modernos en materiales y arquitectura; deseamos que al llegar al restaurante se sientan cómodos y disfrutando de nuestras instalaciones”.

Actualmente y por la situación actual, como todos los restaurantes han trabajado ordenes para llevar o entrega en el mismo de manera eficiente cuidando cada uno de los procesos e ingredientes para ofrecer el mejor servicio.

“Otra de las características que tiene Morra Mía es que aquí encuentras el servicio de una panadería, con los sabores que tiene México, y para que disfrute el público de Juárez y El Paso las deliciosas, conchas, panqueques y los postres de cajeta, típicos de nuestra cultura mexicana”.

“Les invitamos a probar nuestro mole, nuestro pozole, que es nuestro platillo Estrella, entre otros platillos, donde Todos los ingredientes que usamos son además de naturales son de México, como el Maíz, las especies y las salsas de chile; las tortillas y el pan hechos a mano y en el momento!

here is no doubt that tacos are considered authentic Mexican food, the way they’re prepared with the salsa and ingredients characterize one of the Mexican Food Restaurants: Tacos Don Cuco.

Since 2006 two young entrepreneurs, Mauro and his wife Ingrid, who took on the task of creating a business with the purpose of providing the public with the exquisite flavor of Mexico.

in duda los tacos son una identidad de la comida mexicana, pero la forma de prepararlos, la salsa y el toque de sus ingredientes son solo alguno de los aspectos que caracteriza uno de los mejores restaurantes dedicado a la comida mexicana, Tacos Don Cuco.

Y es asi como desde el año 2006, dos jóvenes emprendedores, Mauro y su esposa Ingrid, quienes se dieron a la tarea de crear un negocio con el propósito de brindarle al público el exquisito sabor a México.

“Comenzó con un pequeño establecimiento en Piedras y Montana, aquí en El Paso, eran solo 14 sillas las que teníamos; y solo éran ellos dos los que trabajában, cocinando, y sirviendo a nuestros primeros clientes”.

Con el paso del tiempo Tacos Don Cuco, ha mantenido su calidad y prestigio, dando como resultado un crecimiento que en los últimos años ya cuentan con varios establecimientos.

“Vamos a cumplir 15 años y ya son 11 locales, queremos mencionar que nosotros tenemos tiempo trabajando para la comunidad, y estamos muy emocionados porque vamos a inaugurar el establecimiento número 12, para conmemorar nuestro aniversario. La nueva sucursal estará en Las Cruces, Nuevo México, será el primero que este fuera de esta área; y lo que deseamos es que el público se sienta como en casa.”

Durante estos años, Tacos Don Cuco, ha buscado mantener varios aspectos que han hecho de este negocio uno de los preferidos de la comunidad.

“Se ha tenido que definir un sistema de trabajo, con una uniformidad, donde se definen los estándares, los detalles de atención y servicio y se les ha dado mucho entrenamiento al personal.

“Lo que más me gusta, en lo personal es ver a gente crecer dentro de nuestro equipo, y que en su tiempo se van a aprovechar otras oportunidades, eso para mi es lo más satisfactorio, porque entonces Tacos Don Cuco ha dejado huella”.

The site, dates from 1897, served as shelter, office where treaties were signed, also used as armory and jewelry and money depot, as well as a resting place for Villa and his troops. In which his brother Hipolito served right when the insurgents fought the dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz´s government.

El sitio, cuya construcción data del año 1897, sirvió como refugio, despacho donde firmó tratados, resguardo de armas, joyas y dinero y área de descanso para Villa y su tropa; entre los cuales se encontraba su hermano Hipólito justo en el tiempo que el insurrecto combatió la dictadura del gobierno de Porfirio Díaz.

In 1915 (a year before the Columbus attack), agents of the U.S. Customs busted into the property owned

by George Benton, located on 329 Leon St. in downtown El Paso. In the place, they found arms and no less than half a million dollars in cash; also, there was jewelry appraised in almost thirty thousand dollars. According to press reports of that time, Customs Agents only seized the jewelry -presumed stolen- the cash and some gold coins were left to the Villa´s. To have an understanding of how much the money and the jewelry stashed in the house back then is worth in our days, the 500,000 are the equivalent to 12 million, and the jewelry is valued in some 4 millions of today’s dollars

En 1915 (un año antes del ataque a Columbus), agentes de la Aduana de los Estados Unidos irrumpieron al inmueble propiedad de George Benton, ubicado en el 329 de la Calle León en el Centro de la Ciudad de El Paso. Ahí, encontraron armamento, joyas valuadas en aproximadamente 30 mil dólares en aquellos años (4 millones de dolares valor actual) y dinero (500 mil dollares). The property had the main house, a continous to this, and a patio. Villa lived in the house, along with his servants . On the other house The -troops-”Los Dorados del Norte” would sleep on the stable, and the patio was a common area to use . The property remained abandoned for more than fifteen years.

La propiedad contaba con una casa principal, una contigua a esta y un patio. Villa habitaba la casa junto a sus sirvientes. En la otra casa dormia su tropa -soldados“Los Dorados del Norte” y el patio era de uso común.

A group of businessmen decided to rescue the site known today as the Stash House. For them, it was essential to preserve the history of this place; thanks to their spot-on vision made the corresponding paperwork, so this place could be more accessible to the public.

Enrique Guajardo, head of the project, gave himself the task of restoration of the first stage, starting with the main house, preserving the construction details of the era. The first part of the restoration concluded with the pre-opening of a gallery, exhibiting the revolutionary character´s personal valuables that were found inside of the hose, as well as items donated by other museums.

Un grupo de empresarios, decidió rescatar el sitio que hoy se le conoce como Casa Clandestina. para ellos, era muy importante preservar la historia de este lugar; por lo que gracias a su atinada visión hicieron los tramites correspondientes para que éste tuviera mayor apertura al publico. Enrique Guajardo, cabeza del proyecto, se dio a la tarea de restaurar, en una primera etapa la casa habitación, respetando los detalles de le época. La primera parte de la restauración concluyó con la pre-inauguración de una galería que exhibe valiosos artículos del personaje revolucionario que fueron localizados en su interior, así como objetos donados por otros museos.

Guajardo added that the restoration processes have been made with the most care to preserve its originality. The following stage consists of finishing the garden, restore the horse stables in which a restaurant-bar will be, enable the restrooms and the kitchen. All these to continue exposing and exchanging the El Paso and Mexico´s history.

Guajardo, añadió que han sido muy cuidadosos en los procesos de restauración del edificio a fin de conservar su originalidad. La siguiente etapa consistirá en concluir la construcción del jardín, restaurar las caballerizas donde será un restaurant-bar, habilitar los sanitarios y la cocina; todo esto con el fin de seguir exponiendo e intercambiando la historia entre El Paso y México.

During the inaugural event, historian Cindy Medina welcomed the assistants and special guests, including Adair Margo, also, Mr. Edgar Omar Montes Villa and Mr. Francisco Villa Campa, great-grandson and grandson of the revolutionary leader respectably, were present at this event. One of the Villa’s made the donation of a replica of his grandfather´s mortuary mask. The dramatic touch was the performance of the actor Rafael Alberto Celestino Adame, Villa´s impersonator and the role of Gen. John J. Pershing by General Bernie Sargent,which they have represented these historical figures at different historical events at a National level, and once again emblematically reunited after one hundred and five years.

El toque dramático fue la actuación del los actores: Rafael Alberto Celestino Adame imitador del Gral. Franciso Villa, y en el papel del Gral. John J. Pershing el General Bernie Sargent, quienes han representando en diferentes eventos históricos a nivel nacional y reunidos de nuevo emblemáticmante despues de ciento cinco años.

As now, the Villa´s Clandestine Stash House has sparked the community interest to turn it into a representative place inside the Union Plaza Barrio. The visitors, especially children, can attend guided visits and discover a part of the secrets of the so-called Pancho Villa´s den.

uarez is hosting an exhibition of replicas of pieces by one of the greatest Italian Renaissance artists: Michelangelo.

With a height of more than 6.5 feet, sculpted in marble, Michelangelo's David imposes itself before anyone who looks at it.

This is how we began the tour of Michelangelo, "The Divine", a temporary exhibition offered by the Secretary of Culture. The exhibition will remain until August 30, showing the exact replicas of the most renowned Renaissance author's most significant works.

The adapted Octavio Trias room into a Galleria host beautiful pieces. The sculpture of a Chimera proudly shows its broken teeth, victim of the artist's anger.

A dark corridor leads to a room with low lighting. A series of sculptures by the Italian artist is displayed, with the Pietà of Rome, one of the most beautiful and admired sculptures in the world, standing out.

Sketches and pencil portraits follow it, hung on the wall of the corridor, the extraordinary work The Last Judgment, to conclude with his most remarkable creation: the sky of the Sistine Chapel. As a fun fact, the curator of the exhibition, Gianluca Salvadori, says that the artist refused several times to do it but finally agreed under protest.

The Dying Slave, Bacchus and The Moses, and many more works await you at Michelangelo, "The Divine", at the Paso del Norte Cultural Center. Don't miss the chance to admire pieces exhibited in museums in Italy, France, Germany, Russia, among others, all gathered in one place.

xhiben replicas de piezas de uno de los más grandes artistas italianos renacentistas: Miguel Ángel.

Con una altura de más de 2 metros, esculpido en mármol, el David de Miguel Ángel se impone ante cualquiera se ose a mirarlo.

Así como iniciamos el recorrido de Miguel Ángel, "El Divino", exposición temporal que ofrece la Subsecretaria de Cultura, y que hasta el 30 de agosto estará exhibiendo replicas exactas de tamaño de las más grandes obras del más reconocido autor renacentista.

En la sala Octavio Trías, se hospedan piezas por demás hermosas. La escultura de una quimera, la cual muestra orgullosa sus dientes quebrados, víctima de la cólera del artista.

Seguido, de un pasillo oscuro se ingresa a la sala para encontrarse en un ambiente con luz baja, donde se muestra una serie de esculturas del artista italiano, sobresaliendo la Piedad de Roma, una de las esculturas más bellas y admiradas del mundo.

Le siguen bocetos y retratos a lápiz, colgados en la pared del pasillo, la gran obra El juicio final, para concluir con su más grande obra: el cielo de la Capilla Sixtina. Como anécdota, el curador de la exposición, Gianluca Salvadori, platica que el artista se reusó varias veces a realizarla, pero finalmente accedió bajo protesta.

With a firm but paused voice, Catalina narrated during the presentation of the book that her father, when she was a teenager, took her and her siblings to harvest coffee beans to a farm he had among the hills, a seven-hour walk away. To get there, they had to climb a huge mountain.

After walking for four hours, they stopped halfway up the mountain, thirsty and hungry.

Before resuming their journey, their father told them: "Now you decide whether to continue or go back. If you choose to return, you will never know what lies ahead, nor will you take advantage of what you have achieved so far. You decide, Catalina, stay or continue."

Today, many teenagers, women, and men from the indigenous groups of Chihuahua and other Mexican states study in middle school, high school, and College. Catalina dedicates the 117 pages of her book to them. Once they are halfway up the mountain, they will continue and not be defeated by racism, poverty, and bad influence. No matter how many obstacles stand in their way and how much hunger they have to go through, they will know that school might be an opportunity for personal growth and the development of their communities.

Catalina García Ruiz is an ecologist, a master in agro-industrial production, and is currently studying for her doctorate. She is the mother of three children and lives in Chihuahua City.

es, it was her, Catalina García Ruiz, that Chatina woman from the state of Oaxaca who arrived in Chihuahua at the beginning of the 21st century with her decision in her heart. It was Thursday, May 20, 2021, after 7:15 p.m., she was speaking through the INAH TV platform to an audience from all around Mexico and Latin America; she talked about the reasons that led her to write and compile the book "Kwe Jlyo Te" [You Decide].

She could hardly have imagined 17 years ago -when her brown hands still smelled of coffee and corn seeds. She was leaving San Miguel Panixtlahuaca, Juquila-, that sometime later she would be vindicated the efforts of indigenous women.

Brown-skinned women who, with much sacrifices, like her, had managed to pursue higher education in Chihuahua.

The book consists of 12 testimonies of women with deep roots as the original peoples of Mexico.

Rarámuri, Zapotec, and Chatina women touched the reader with the richness of their experiences; by the difficulties encountered from the bosom of the family where machismo becomes an obstacle to dreams. The narrations are full of racism and exclusion, paradoxically present in some university professors.

í, era ella, Catalina García Ruiz, esa mujer chatina del estado de Oaxaca que a principios del siglo XXI llegó al estado de Chihuahua con su decisión en el corazón. Era el jueves 20 de mayo de 2021 y pasadas las 19:15 horas se dirigía a través de la plataforma INAH TV a una audiencia de varias partes de México y América; hablaba de los motivos que la llevaron a escribir y compilar el libro "Kwe Jlyo Te" [Tu Decides].

Difícilmente se hubiera imaginado 17 años atrás –cuando sus manos morenas todavía olían a semillas de café y maíz, y partía de San Miguel Panixtlahuaca, Juquila–, que tiempo después estaría reivindicando el esfuerzo de las mujeres indígenas. Mujeres de piel morena que con mucho sacrificio, como ella, habían logrado cursar la educación superior en Chihuahua.

El libro consta de 12 testimonios de mujeres de raíz profunda como los pueblos originarios de México. Mujeres rarámuri, zapotecas y chatinas que conmueven al lector por la riqueza de sus vivencias; por las dificultades encontradas desde el seno familiar donde el machismo se convierte en obstáculo para los sueños. Narraciones llenas de racismo y exclusión paradójicamente presentes en algunos docentes universitarios.

Cati cuando adolescente, a ella y sus hermanos los llevó a cosechar granos de café a un predio que tenía entre los cerros, a siete horas de camino a pie. Para llegar hasta ese lugar hubieron de subir una enorme montaña.

Luego de caminar cuatro horas pararon a mitad de la montaña con sed y hambre. Previo a retomar el camino su padre les dijo: “ahora ustedes deciden si continúan o se regresan. Si optan por regresar jamás sabrán lo que hay mas adelante, ni aprovecharán lo logrado hasta ahora. Tu decides Catalina, quedarte o seguir.”

En la actualidad muchos adolescentes, mujeres y hombres pertenecientes a los pueblos originarios de Chihuahua y de otros estados de México cursan sus estudios de secundaria, preparatoria y universidad.

A ellas y ellos Catalina les comparte las 117 páginas de su libro para que, una vez que están a mitad de la montaña, prosigan y no se dejen vencer por el racismo, la pobreza y las malas compañías. Sin importar cuántos obstáculos se interpongan en su camino y cuánta hambre tengan que pasar, vean en el estudio una oportunidad para el crecimiento personal y el desarrollo de sus comunidades.

Hector Nuñez, CEO of Expo MRO, explains that the idea is to have several specialized expositions based on the type of industry and offer a better service to all exhibitors.

Todos los tramites a tema de internacionalización lo lleva a cabo esta organización.

lebrijes are handcrafted figures, characterized by their intense and striking colors, like fantastic and imaginary beings. These mythical creatures inspired Avelino Roque Osorio to design the National Costume worn by the current Miss Universe Andrea Meza.

After Andrea Meza, from Chihuahua, won the 69th edition of the Miss Universe beauty pageant, we interviewed the designer, Avelino Roque, originally from San Juan Bautista Tuxtepec Oaxaca.

Exclusively for Border Heritage, Avelino tells us: "I am thrilled because it was a process for Andrea -Miss Mexico- to wear our costume, an Alebrije that is composed of different parts of the body of animals, such as Mexican ajolote, a rooster tail, a dragon, which is the head; it has wings, scales simulating a snake and the variety of Mexican birds, it also has claws on the legs. These combinations result in fascinating creatures".

The elements chosen for Meza's costume are part of Mexican culture. Still, the creativity of Avelino's team also creates fantasy garments for carnival parades, ethnic embroidery with looms. In another concept, they also make wedding or gala dresses.

"We competed against several cities in Mexico in a call launched by Mexicana Universal to select National Costumes. We were in the top 12, and they called us for the presentation; we created the costume. Initially, Ángeles Castro, Miss Oaxaca, who was also competing for Miss Mexicana Universal, wore it. We did very well; they chose the costume, then we had to make modifications marked by the committee with Andrea Meza's measurements."

With more than 30 Kilos of weight, seven people working on it, and several work hours, the costume was made with the support of the local government, sponsors, and people from Tuxtepec.

"I wanted to achieve a completely new design, that of an Alebrije that at the same time had the essence of several animals. Let's remember that it was here in Oaxaca where Alebrijes are born, Pedro Linares, during a dream saw one, and when he woke up, he replicated it in paper and wire.

Since then, the artisans of the region make them out of wood.

For the costume, we use handmade embroidery made by artisans of our community, with fine crystals of different sizes and colors, we also put rhinestones, sequins, beads, and feathers in different colors such as pink, purple, blue, yellow, green, or red, and we made the headdress out of paper". They invested more than five months; however, this National Costume now has marked a step ahead of fashion designers in this concept, as it surprised the whole world.

"We wanted to show the traditions and crafts of our country, which are beautiful elements.

I am delighted with the result; Andrea looked beautiful, she made us cry with emotion. She loved her role as Alebrije walking with this costume while acting; she prepared a lot, she studied and rehearsed with the costume and carried the typical image of Oaxaca incredibly".

The jumpsuit designed by Avelino Roque received the audience's applause. It kept the eyes on one of the most anticipated moments of the contest as it is the National Costume parade where each country represents its history.

"I feel very proud, delighted. It has been a great honor for me to create this costume that represents our culture, our traditions, and customs, and of course, to celebrate Mexico's triumph!"

Undoubtedly one of the favorite costumes of that night before the Miss Universe jury was Alebrije by Avelino Roque.

os alebrijes son figuras artesanales, que se caracterizan por sus intensos y llamativos colores, como seres fantásticos e imaginarios. Avelino Roque Osorio, se inspiro en estas míticas creaturas para diseñar el traje típico que portó la actual Miss Universo Andrea Meza.

Después de que la chihuahuense Andrea Meza, ganará la 69 edición del certamen de Belleza Miss Universo, nos dimos a la tarea de platicar con el diseñador Avelino Roque, originario de San Juan Bautista, Tuxtepec, Oaxaca.

En exclusiva para Border Heritage, Avelino nos platica: “Estoy muy contento ya que fue un proceso para que Andrea -Miss México- portara nuestro traje, un alebrije que se compone de diferentes partes del cuerpo de los animales, como ajolote mexicano, una cola de gallo, un dragón, que es la cabeza; tiene alas, escamas simulando una serpiente y la variedad de aves de México, además tiene unas garras en las patas. Estas combinaciones dan como resultado criaturas fascinantes”.

Los elementos elegidos para el traje de Meza, son parte de la cultura mexicana; pero la creatividad del grupo de trabajo que conforma el estudio liderado por Avelino, también crean prendas de fantasía para los desfiles de carnaval, bordados étnicos con telares, y en otro concepto, también realizan vestidos de novia o gala.

“Concursamos contra varias ciudades de la republica mexicana en una convocatoria que lanzó Mexicana Universal para la selección de los trajes típicos. Quedamos en los 12 primeros mejores y nos llamaron para la presentación; creamos el traje e inicialmente fue portado por la Oaxaqueña Ángeles Castro quien también concursaba para Miss Mexicana Universal. Nos fue muy bien, eligieron el traje, después tuvimos que hacer modificaciones marcadas por el comité con las medidas de Andrea Meza”.

Con más de 30 Kilos de peso, el traje fue confeccionado con el gusto de un equipo de más de 7 personas, y muchas horas de trabajo, apoyados por patrocinadores de gobierno y personas del municipio de Tuxtepec.

“Quise lograr un diseño completamente nuevo, el de un alebrije que al mismo tiempo tuviera la esencia de varios animales. Recordemos que fue aquí en Oaxaca donde nacen los alebrijes, Pedro Linares durante un sueño vio un uno y cuando despertó lo replicó en papel y alambre.

Desde entonces, los artesanos de la región los hacen de madera. Para el traje usamos bordados hechos a mano por artesanos de nuestra comunidad, con finos cristales de diferentes tamaños y colores, además le colocamos pedrería, lentejuelas, canutillos y plumas en diferentes colores como el rosa, morado, azul, amarillo verde o rojo, el tocado lo hicimos de papel”.

La inversión de tiempo fue de más de 5 meses de trabajo, sin embargo, este traje típico, ahora ha marcado un paso adelante de la moda de diseñadores en este concepto, ya que sorprendió al mundo entero.

“Quisimos mostrar las tradiciones y las artesanías de nuestro país, que son elementos bellísimos. Estoy muy satisfecho con el resultado, Andrea lucio bellísima, nos hacía llorar de emoción y además le gustó mucho su papel de alebrije y caminar con este traje mientras actuaba, se preparó mucho, estudió y ensayó con el traje y portaba la imagen típica de Oaxaca increíblemente”.

El jumpsuit diseñado por Avelino Roque recibió los aplausos del público presente pero también mantuvo las miradas en uno de los momentos más esperados del concurso como lo es el desfile de traje típico en donde cada país representa su historia.

“Me siento muy orgulloso, encantado y ha sido un gran honor para mi crear este traje que representa nuestra cultura, nuestras tradiciones y costumbres y desde luego ¡Festejar el triunfo de México!”.

Sin duda uno de los trajes preferidos de esa noche ante el jurado de Miss Universo, fue Alebrije por Avelino Roque.
