Foundation Grant Applications Now Being Accepted

It is with great pleasure and anticipation that the Boone County Community Foundation is once again accepting applications to provide local recipients with locallyfunded grants. The Melvin and Mildred Banks Grant Program was started in 2015. The Banks farmed and ran numerous businesses in Boone County their entire lives. They graciously funded an unrestricted fund for Boone County non-pro t organizations. The Wilbur and Williams Cummings Grant Program

The Future Of William Grady Pool

PUBLIC HEARING Tuesday, July 25th, 5 PM at The Rivers Edge Recreation Center 1151 W. Locust St., Belvidere William Grady pool nestled amongst the mature oak trees and winding Mill Race in Belvidere Park is reaching a critical point in its effective life expectancy that will need to be addressed sooner rather than later. Despite efforts of the park staff and commissioners, the pool complex originally built as a WPA project in 1939, is in need of repairs and substantial capital investment. The last major renovation was conducted in 1986 resulting in an enclosed bathhouse and a new pool vessel/ tank including a new circulation system. After struggling with filtration issues during the 2016 Summer, the Park District retained the professional services of Burbach Aquatics to conduct a technical evaluation of what could be done to extend the life of the pool. This report is available for review on the Park District website under the Board Meetings tab. Some of the issues were addressed and the pool opened in June 2017. However, major issues and additional problems pose difficult situations and decisions for the 2018 season and beyond.

The Park District will be conducting a Public Hearing during its regularly scheduled Board Meeting on July 25th, 2017 at 5 PM with an anticipated start time of the pool discussion around 5:30 PM. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this meeting located at the Rivers Edge Recreation Center, 1151 W. Locust St. After presenting the situation currently facing the pool, the public will have an opportunity to comment and to give input on the future of aquatic recreation within the services provided by the Belvidere Township Park District. The City of Belvidere established an electric aggregation program in 2012 following the passage of a voter referendum. The average participating ratepayer has saved $400 to date, for a citywide cumulative savings of $2,360,000. The city has renewed the program for a 13-month term with low bidder Dynegy Energy at the rate of 7¢ per kWh. All residents and small commercial businesses within the City limits will receive a notice of the program to be mail dropped to their ComEd billing address on July 14. Ratepayers receiving an opt out notice need do nothing and they will automatically be enrolled. This is the majority of the population. Ratepayers currently enrolled with another energy supplier in their own private contract will receive opt-in notices, informing them of the program. That group will not be automatically enrolled, but may choose to sign up, per directions in the notice. Recall that ComEd does all billing regardless of the supply company a resident has selected. The City’s program never has an early termination fee, enrollment fee, nor any additional monthly fees, unlike some private energy contracts. The ComEd base rate is expected to be 7.151¢ for the period October 2017 to May 2018 with a floating component that changes monthly.
