The Y is much more than just a gym and swim. The Belvidere Family YMCA takes pride in our community, partnering with other wonderful organizations and giving back to our neighbors together.
UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS EXTENSION The Y has had the pleasure of partnering with the University of Illinois Extension on programs Kids In The Kitchen & Garden Club. These two programs give children the opportunity to create and grow healthy foods. The kids gain knowledge on how to garden and how to cook healthy meals and snacks for themselves. They also receive supplemental materials in order to take the information home & create healthy living habits there. Additionally, the two organizations have collaborated on the Teen Teacher Program. This program is centered around teaching teens in the community about healthy living and to be mentors to the younger children on those topics. The teens then in turn taught a Junior Chef program to the camp kids at the Y from the information that they learned. Stay tuned for Belvidere Y Summer Camp information which will feature our AWESOME Garden Club!
