Melita F. Oates 92, of Belvidere IL passed away peacefully, Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Maple Crest Care Center, in Belvidere, IL. Melita was born August 16, 1928 in Patch Grove, WI the daughter of Charles and Rose Alt. She married the love of her life LaVern Oates on November 26, 1949 in Cuba City WI. Melita was an expert quilter, enjoyed gardening and cheering on her Green Bay Packers. She enjoyed her many years at Parkside Manor and spending time with her friends and family. Melita is loved and missed by her children; Sharon (Larry) Hall, Greg (Laurel) Oates, Kathy Hansen; 2 brothers, 1 sister, 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, LaVern; son-in-law, Steven Hansen and 6 siblings. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials to the family to establish at a later date. affectionately known as Lorraine passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, December 13, 2020 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center after a short illness. Lorraine was born February 9, 1929 the daughter of Homer & Inez (Radebaugh) Heller. Lorraine lived in the Capron, IL area, attended Capron High School until 1945 when her parents moved to the Belvidere area. She graduated from Belvidere High School in 1946. During her lifetime, Lorraine worked as a secretary at Sanitary Scale Company, the Marine Base at Camp Lejune, NC, Mid-West Pak in Belvidere, & Attorney E.A. Loop. Her final job at U.A.W. Local 1268 is where she retired after 20 years of service in 1989. Lorraine married the love of her life, Marvin Hoelzel on February 1, 1958 & became the mother of his two young children, Cheryl & Dennis. Marvin & Lorraine enjoyed their summer home at Lake Mills, WI as well as their Florida vacations. Lorraine enjoyed reading, traveling, listening to country music, loved attending the Boone County Fair & was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. In her younger years she enjoyed playing her guitar & “jamming” with her friends. In her later years she enjoyed bus trips with her cousin & best friend, Ginny Tice & her dear friend & companion, Bill Thomas & their trips to northern Wisconsin & south Texas. Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin in 1992; her friend, Bill Thomas in 2008; half-brother, Harry Marten in 2005. She is loved & missed by her loving children, Cheryl (Doug) Carlson of Belvidere, IL, Dennis (Penny) Hoelzel of Florida; grandson Blake (Kirstin) Hoelzel of Woodinville, WA & numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. Lorraine was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Ladies Auxiliary of VFW 1461. The American Legion Auxiliary & the Belvidere Moose Club. The service & celebration of Lorrain’s life will take place in May 2021 at Anderson Funeral & Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in care of Lorraine’s family to be dispersed to her favorite charities. To light a candle or to share a memory, please visit www.AndersonFCS.com.
