NORTH BOONE FOOTBALL TEAM MAKES PLAYOFFS
The varsity team finished 7-2 in the regular season in the BNC conference. The Vikings played their first home playoff game in six years and earned their first playoff victory in fifteen years. The Vikings lost their second round playoff game to Lisle 37-25 to conclude a great year.
Congratulations to the team on an outstanding year! Thank you to the community, parents & students for all of their outstanding support. NORTH BOONE OUTSTANDING STUDENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS Congratulations to the following students: • Britton Morris was named first team all-state quarterback & Ethan Rydell made honorable mention as a wide receiver for the Varsity Football Team. • Daria Cleland was named as a 4H Ambassador to represent the state of Illinois at a national conference in Atlanta. • Korey Yarc was named to the All-Tournament Team in Boys’ Basketball. • The Band Students earned 1st Place & 2nd Place trophies at the Marengo Settler Days, & the Flag Girls also earned a 1st place. • The Drama Students did a fantastic job with the fall production of “Crazy Town”. • Varsity Boys Cross Country made it to Sectionals as a team.

CAPRON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AWARDED EXEMPLARY DESIGNATION The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released our annual School Report Card on October 31st. The State Report Card shows how well our school is progressing on a wide range of educational goals. Each school’s Report Card also now includes a designation, a descriptor of how well our school is meeting the needs of all students, based on 10 measures of performance, including growth. The four designations that are given by the Illinois State Board of Education are Exemplary, Commendable, Underperforming, & Lowest Performing. Overall the North Boone Schools have rated very well. Five schools were designated as Commendable (Manchester, Poplar Grove, North Boone Upper Elementary, North Boone Middle School & North Boone High School). Capron Elementary School received an Exemplary designation. Capron Elementary School’s data shows that students taking the PARCC assessment showed an incredible growth in English Language Arts, & a growth in Math. These percentages of growth exceeded the expectations of the State. This designation placed Capron Elementary in the top 10% of all elementary schools in the state of Illinois. Congratulations to all the students, staff & parents with this recognition of hard work.

BUSINESS NEWS TRANSPORTATION North Boone School Board approved the purchase of 10 new school buses at the November 2018 meeting. Four of the new buses will be delivered this winter and the other six will be delivered in the summer. The district is looking to invest in upgrading the fleet over the next few years. North Boone is looking for bus drivers. If you or someone you know is interested please apply at www.nbcusd.org or contact Melissa at mgeyman@nbcusd.org or (815) 765-9437. TAX LEVY North Boone is in the process of developing and approving the tax levy. A tax levy is the total amount of taxes imposed by a school district and this is approved annually by the Board of Education. North Boone School District will hold a Truth in Taxation hearing on December 18th at 6:30 pm at 6248 North Boone School Rd, Poplar Grove, IL. The School Board will vote on the tax levy as well as the planned abatement of taxes. The School Board is making efforts to reduce the bond levy in an attempt to stabilize and lower taxes for the community. To find a copy of the levy presentation please visit www.nbcusd.org/administration/business-office. STUDENT FEES The School Board reduced student fees for the 2018-2019 school year. Each school year, registration fees are charged for items that are directly consumed or used by students. This can include but is not limited to consumable materials, supplies or rental of textbooks. For students in grades PreK-8th grade registration fees for the 2018-2019 are $75 per students & students in grades 9-12 the fees are $125 per student. BUILDING UPGRADES Over the summer Capron Elementary School had the roof replaced and Poplar Elementary School had a special education restroom remodeled to accommodate our students with special needs. All of the buildings received various other repairs and upgrades for the 2018-19 school year as well as concrete repair and pavement sealing. Next year Manchester Elementary School is scheduled to replace the roof on the gymnasium. NORTH BOONE DATES TO REMEMBER Winter Break will begin for our students & staff on December 22, 2018 and school will resume on January 7th, 2019. Parents should mark their calendars that April 22nd, 2019 which was supposed to be a non-attendance day for students will now become a regular school day. This is now a make-up day due to the snow day cancellation that occurred on Monday after the Thanksgiving Break. For all district and building calendars, please visit our website at www.nbcusd.org.

Additionally the After School Program will include community partnerships to offer healthy living opportunities to the participants. *Drop in care is a one day rate for those families that need last minute or infrequent child watch. Students are not allowed to enter the dance after 7:30 PM and cannot leave until 9:00 PM unless a parent comes in to pick them up. Refreshments are available for purchase. We play under IHSA rules and Code of Conduct and each team must provide a roster of players before the first game and provide their own clearly numbered jerseys. Rosters can be amended up to the start time of the 2nd game. The season will end with a single elimination tournament. Full payment must be made on day you register the team. There are mechanics when throwing, understanding the pitcher’s plate, the rules about balks, pick-off plays at each base, fielding your position and finally mound presence and knowing situations while pitching. We will go over all of that and more in this 3-week program. Space is limited to the first 12 children to sign up. Bring your glove each week. GUEST POLICY The YMCA sells guest passes to those who are not members. No one under the age of 18 using a guest pass is allowed to use the Wellness Center/Weight Room. Members in good standing will receive three guest passes a year. Anyone purchasing a guest pass is expected to behave in an appropriate manner, failure to do so could result in you being asked to leave and not being allowed to purchase another guest pass. Family Daily Fee: Youth (under 18 years of age) Adult $3.00 $5.00 $10.00 WELLNESS CENTER/WEIGHT ROOM The Wellness Center is available to members 13 years of age and older. Orientations on proper use of the machines and training etiquette are available at no charge for members by calling 815-547-5307 to schedule an appointment with one of our Wellness Center staff. Children under the age of 11 are not allowed in the Wellness Center/Weight Room and we ask that they please not sit in the hallway. Those ages 11- 12 who have taken the Goal Setters class are allowed but we ask that they wear their Goal Setters tag they have been given. REFUNDS/POLICIES Program refunds by check will be granted approximately 30 days from the date of the request for the following reasons only: 1. Medical excuse 2. Bank draft error on the YMCA’s part 3. YMCA cancels class • All refunds will be applied as a system credit unless a monetary refund is requested. • No refunds or make-ups for classes, or programs that fall on holidays, or for weather-related cancellations, including power outages. • We do not prorate for late sign ups. • No refunds will be made once a program or session has started. • Fitness classes run the first two weeks of the session. If classes do not each their minimum requirement of attendance after two weeks, the YMCA reserves the right to cancel the class and you will receive a prorated refund. • The YMCA does not accept postdated checks. A $30 NSF fee will be applied for any returned checks or bank drafts.

Bach, MD, Rockford Health Systems, the Boone County Council on Aging is hosting Memory Café meetings at The Steam Plant Restaurant in Belvidere. The purpose of the Memory Cafe is to provide knowledge, understanding and education about memory loss in a relaxed atmosphere. The meeting will be held in the meeting room at The Steam Plant Restaurant. Meetings will be held on the third Tuesday of the month. The next meeting is Tuesday, December 18th, at 6:00 PM.
