NOTICE TO BELVIDERE TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS
We would like to share some information with you to help you better understand the way our snow removal system works and to help keep you all safe this winter. Weather Conditions - The weather plays a huge factor in how long it takes to remove the snow/ice. How much, how long it snows, weight of the snow (wet, heavy snow takes much longer to remove than a few inches of light, fluffy snow) all factor into technique and time. Wind and temperature can also make plowing hard or even impossible to keep roads safe/open in some cases. Routes - Our drivers have specific routes they are assigned each time it snows. Unfortunately, someone is always first and someone is always last. These routes are laid out to make our snow removal go as quickly as possible. Mailboxes - Your mailboxes take a beating in the winter from the wet, heavy snow and slush. Your mailbox, by law, should be mounted on a wood post (not steel or brick). Check to make sure it is not starting to decay/rot at or below the ground. Also, make sure the screws or lag bolts are tight that hold it to the post. If your mailbox gets knocked down it will be up to the driver and the road commissioner to determine if it was a result of snow coming off the plow or if the snowplow hit it. If the driver hits your mailbox it will be replaced with a standard wood post and mailbox. Marking the Edge of Your Yard - Some residents like to mark the edge of the road to keep traffic and snowplows from damaging their yard. If you choose to do so it must be done with fiberglass marking posts (kept one foot off the road to help with the snow removal). Steel posts will not be tolerated. If a steel post gets broken or bent it can do serious damage to tires, undersides of vehicles, snowplows, etc. which the homeowner may be held liable. Right of Way/Obstructions - The standard right of way in almost all cases is 33 feet from the center of the road way. Any obstructions in the right of way (rocks, landscape material, fences, bushes, etc.) should be removed. If there is any damage caused to a snowplow from obstructions in the right of way the homeowner may be liable. Cul-de-sacs - If you live in a cul-de-sac, the snow removal procedure goes as follows: During the initial snow the snowplow will make one, sometimes two passes around the outside of the cul-de-sac pushing the snow towards the middle. After the snow has ended and the roads are clear, the snowplow will come back and clean the cul-de-sac. It is up to the determination of the driver where to put the snow in order to make the cleaning of the cul-de-sac the quickest and most economic. Some residents may end up with more snow in their yard than others. If you wish to mark the edge of the road with fiberglass posts, please keep them at least 14 feet apart so the snowplow can push snow in between them without damaging the markers. Driveways - Unfortunately when plowing snow you will end up with snow at the end of your driveway. Our drivers do what they can to keep this at a minimum. Pushing snow across the road or leaving the snow from your driveway in the road is illegal. If there is damage done to a snowplow or someone’s vehicle, the homeowner can be liable. DEMOCRATS CHANGE THAT MATTERS
Prior to 2017, you weren’t hearing much about the Boone County Democratic Party and you didn’t see many Democratic candidates on ballots. The obscurity of the past is now gone. In March of this year the party re-ignited as Progressive Democrats and since that time has grown from two volunteers to twenty and filled half of the 38 Precinct Committee positions. Besides getting organized, they have recruited candidates and developed programs that monitor and take action regarding national and local issues that impact middle and low-income families. With that being said, the Boone County Democrats are not just about politics. They are active in a wide range of community programs and events. They: • Help construct homes for Habitat-for-Humanity, serve lunch and provide food for the workers, • Take part in the Heritage Days Parade in Belvidere and participate in the Boone County Fair, • Have donated money to help with the crisis in Puerto Rico, • Assist the Boone County Keen Age Center by serving food at the Volunteer Recognition event, • Help raise money for various organizations including the Animal Friends Society of Boone County. Dr. Michael J. G North Boone Football Team Makes Playoffs The varsity team finished 7-2 in the regular season in the BNC conference. The Vikings play in a very competitive conference where every week is a grind to try and earn a win. Our only 2 losses during the regular season came in our season opener to Stillman Valley in a close game 28-35. We also lost to the 9-0 conference champions, Byron Tigers in week 4. The Vikings went on to win 5 straight games and finished the regular season beating undefeated Dixon, 48-47. The win gave North Boone their 7th of the year and an automatic bid into the IHSA playoffs. The playoff game was on the road at Monticello which the Vikings lost 35-14. Congratulations to the team on an outstanding year, and thank you to the community, parents and students for their outstanding support.
Pre-School Playground We have exciting news for our preschoolers in the North Boone School District! On Saturday, November 4th, a new playground was constructed at Capron Elementary School. Two years ago, a three-stage proposal was submitted to the ISBE to receive funding toward installation of a preschool-appropriate playground through the Preschool for All Grant. The District has been awarded funding through this grant over the past two years totalling close to $29,000.00. We will be applying for funding to complete the playground, with an additional $10,000.00 in equipment in the upcoming fiscal year. Once completed, the preschool playground will have equipment made for 3-5 year olds that will include many ageappropriate interactive structures. We are very excited about this project, and look forward to our preschoolers finally having a playground designed just for their ages and abilities. Finally, we would like to sincerely thank the Scherrer Family for their tremendous help and support on our build day, providing equipment, tools, and labor!!
Manchester Physical Activities At Manchester, the students had a blast playing tennis this fall. In addition to working on the fundamental skill, students focused on teamwork and sportsmanship. The two week unit was capped off with a doubles tournament and a Saturday morning open gym which was available to students and their families. The open gym was a great way to bring the school community together and highlight what they are learning in PE

eenlee - Superintendent North Boone Middle School FIRE Club The FIRE Club began this year and stands for Friendships Include Respecting Everyone. The students were selected by their peers after being asked, “If you had a problem, and you needed to talk to a peer about it, who would it be?” The entire 7th and 8th grade selected their top 5 people, and from the results, I narrowed it down to about 10 per grade level. Once we had our top students, they had to interview with Mr. Pearce and me to be sure they were a good fit for the club. Our final members comprise of twenty-three 7th and 8th grade students. The purpose of the club is to promote anti-bullying and to have FIRE members among the student body who students can go to when they either have a problem of their own or see an issue in the school to report to someone other than adults. Then FIRE members come to a trusted adult to report if necessary. They also meet with new students, give them a tour around the school, sit with them at lunch, and make them feel welcome. So far this year, we have been very busy! We started the year with a “Break the Rules” week to raise money for the hurricanes. We raised over $300 and donated it to a Donors Choose website, where the money was allocated to a band classroom in Texas whose instruments were destroyed in the hurricane. It was super cool to see actual students who benefited from this fundraiser! As far as what the future holds for us, we are planning on Sponsoring a family in December for Christmas, bringing in speakers about various topics, and playing it by ear depending on issues we see in the school. They meet with Mrs. Stanek every Wednesday to debrief on things they have heard that week and how to process and move forward. These kids are really invested, and I have been happy to see their progress.

The Belvidere Chamber of Commerce donated supplies to the schools of our district. Swedish American and the Kiwanis Club donated money towards our educational and extra-curricular programs. Their generosity and support for our students is greatly appreciated.

The meeting will be held in the meeting room at The Steam Plant Restaurant. Meetings will be held on the third Tuesday of the month. The next meeting is Tuesday, November 21st, at 6:00 PM.
