CELEBRATING THOSE WHO HELP OTHERS Sergeant Arseneau, Todd “TJ” I have been in the Army National Guard for 7.5 years. I joined the coalition to help change the community’s mindset around drug abuse. Also, I did not grow up in Boone County and wanted to meet more people within the community. The coalition is important to me because it combats a serious issue in the United States, not just with punishment, but with awareness and options for those who struggle with drug abuse. I really like how the Boone County Drug Prevention Coalition is community based so it feels like policy changes, awareness campaigns, and youth outreach programs really make an impact! My primary goal being a part of the coalition is to gain more community involvement around drug abuse specifically with drug abuse with our youth, as well as, more awareness about drugs that the average community member doesn’t see the harm in using.

A Message From Our Fiscal Agent, YSN It is the mission of Youth Services Network to develop, provide and coordinate services to improve the physical, psychological and social well-being of youth and their families in Boone and Winnebago counties. YSN has provided these services since 1984 and have worked closely with community agencies, school districts, and law enforcement to ensure that youth and their families have the assistance they need to be successful. YSN has been involved with the Boone County Drug Prevention Coalition since 2014 and have been excited to be a member agency. The Coalition provides much needed substance abuse prevention services, education, training, workshops and has developed a Youth Advisory Board to assist in reaching youth who might be making choices that are not always healthy. YSN is proud of our involvement with the Coalition and look forward to helping make Boone County residents the best they can be. • Youth Council has officially begun! Meetings are monthly at the Belvidere YMCA on Wednesday evenings beginning at 6 PM. If you know a youth who is interested in joining, please visit www.bcdpc.org • Youth will be working on new campaigns around Stigma and how it affects youth and their ability to grow. • Our youth are currently working with the coalition to plan events in the community during Red Ribbon Week and Home Town Christmas!
