We inspire excellence.

Dear BIS Community, As we celebrate the twentieth anniversary of our founding when the British School, American Elementary School and the American High School merged to become Bonn International School in 1997, it is worth reflecting on our achievements and successes. We are a very strong and welcoming community of teachers, staff, students and parents, who are committed to the success of our school. We have students who are open-minded, life long learners with the skills to become confident, responsible and contributing members of society, who go on to reputable universities throughout the world. Our teachers and staff are dedicated educators with a single goal in mind – to inspire excellence and the pursuit of personal best. Our parents support our mission and values and hold us accountable for implementing them. We are a school which avoids complacency, is ambitious and innovative, is open to feedback, a school committed to high standards of excellence. As such, we have developed a Strategic Plan comprising a set of goals which will take us to the next level as a leading international IB school. We continue to be committed to the programmes of the International Baccalaureate as we truly believe that they, more than any other education system, provide our students with the values and skills needed to thrive in an increasingly complex, multi cultural world. They empower our students to become knowledgeable, innovative, internationally minded and excellent communicators, who will shape the future of our global society. Our Strategic Plan is the result of intensive collaboration between parents, students, faculty and staff. After initial community brainstorming, using the Vision Trees in the Waves and the Agora, a group of parents, staff, faculty and students over many weeks created a revised Vision and Mission. This mission and vision were then used to drive the work of the strategic planning groups focussing on: • Teaching and Learning • Technology • Student Support Services • The Extracurricular Programme • Communication All in all, over 60 members of our community worked long hours, discussed passionately, questioned endlessly and collaborated enthusiastically to draw up the Strategic Plan for 2017 – 2022, to ensure that we inspire excellence in all that we do. The following pages provide a high level overview of the main goals under the categories listed above. Actions to implement these goals have also been drawn up and will form the annual whole-school, section and departmental action plans to ensure we stay on track over the next five years and achieve our vision. My sincere and heartfelt thanks go out to all who were involved in developing this road map for 2022 and for sharing their passion for and commitment to Bonn International School.
