Tourist don’t come to Bonaire just to experience the amazing underwater world, but they also come to enjoy the culture, peacefulness, and the well preserved nature which you won’t find in most places. This year, Bonaire is searching for an ambassador to promote tourism both locally, and abroad. Giorliana, Marionelis, Supharmy, and Carolin are all vying for the title of Miss Tourism Bonaire 2018. On the 2nd of June we will meet the new Miss Tourism Bonaire 2018.

Bonaire cultural experience takes you to the North side of the Island with a drive through 1000 steps. Afterwards we drives towards the Flamingo sanctuary ‘Goto Lake’ . When we stepped in, we were welcomed by the very friendly staff. We ordered cheeseburger and the Rib
–eye (we love!). The Rib-eye was cooked to perfection and nicely presented with coleslaw, fries, and potato
salad. It was so delicious and the green sauce is top notch! Ask for the green sauce when you there, and thank us later.
The cheeseburger was so tasty, perfectly made with

et me introduce myself. My name is Rithel Emerenciana and about thirty years ago on November the 28 1987 I was born right here on the island. Making me a true Bonè-rian flamingo. To start, let me say that I am a writer enthusiast, a junkie who from his earliest school days has never been this obsessed with flipping through the pages of books and magazines. What I did have was a passion for writing. Picking up a pen, putting it to paper, and being hypnotized by what unfolded before my eyes, was always -and continues to be- exhilarating for me. It didn’t make a difference to me as to what form my thoughts would appear on paper. Poems, lyrics, short stories. As long as I was able to truly expose what I was feeling in that precise moment. At the age of 10 I won my very first poem competition which landed me a ticket to participate in the national poetry competitions in The Netherlands. Two years ago my very best friend Mr Charlysen Jansen, founder of Curaçao its first fashion magazine Fresku was dropping his first issue and offered me a two page in each edition. And although I am very content with contributing to Fresku its success, I am very excited to be joining the Bonè magazine team.

“Gebroken harten”
Guillaume Martiszoon (12) and Jaynah Francees (10) met each other through the Bonaire Giftedness Institute. They were immediately a great team. Guillaume is really good at coming up with marvelous ideas and Jaynah, also very creative, is great at organizing and getting things done. Jaynah describes herself as the manager while Guillaume describes himself as the thinker. Together, with the support of their parents, they started ‘Gebroken harten’ (broken hearts). Bonè sat down with this dynamic duo to talk about how they started ‘Gebroken harten’ , the activities and future plans! What are the activities you have planned to make someone with a ‘Gebroken hart’ happy?

G & J: We do philosophy with them and we play games. For philosophy we talk about what happiness is. Because if you understand what happiness is and what being positive and negative, is than you can learn how to be happy. We also do self-invented games. The thing about the games is that you can’t lose or win so you won’t get sad when you lose and don’t get overconfident when you win. In July we will have a children’s’ market where kids can sell their home made crafts too.
What’s the story behind “Gebroken harten’’? Guillaume: I was really sad one day and I wanted to do something so that no one else would feel like that. ‘Gebroken harten’ is an idea I got in the car. I talked with my mom about it and she advised me to get some help, people who would help me with the idea. So I asked Jaynah if she could help me out. Her reaction was very positive. After that, we had a few brainstorm sessions to work out the idea and last February we gave our first presentation. We invited family and friends over to present the idea and we did a few activities with them to see which activities will fit with Gebroken harten. Why did you choose the name ‘Gebroken harten’? G & J: Because we want to help people who are sad and who have a broken heart. We had a few names and Jaynah choose Gebroken harten. We designed our own logo as well. The logo is a sign of a broken heart with a little arrow that stands for the glue that we use to put the heart back together.

What are your future plans with this beautiful foundation and how can other people help with it? G & J: The future plan is to launch an official foundation and make it a worldwide foundation. From there on we will keep thinking about new ideas. Other people can support us by attending our activities. We will soon launch a Facebook page so you can keep track on our activities.
