Bòi, a lot of locals see you as THE storyteller of Bonaire, how do you feel about that?

Why should Bonaire locals be proud of their history?

Well, I tell what people have told me and I like to let people just talk. I see myself more as an interviewer and that is how I gather stories. For me it is very normal to reproduce the stories I have heard. I find that the local stories should stay remembered and alive. I have written books and do interviews for my shows on television because I think it is an interesting way to let the local history live on its own. Mostly writing though, I am not one to really present in public or appear too much in the public eye, I prefer writing.

Shouldn’t we all?! Everyone should be proud of their past right? History shows us what has been and we can learn from that. I think it is key to know who you are and to know where you come from, your roots.

When people don’t know their history it can cause ignorance and feuds that are unnecessary. Especially the locals here that have such a diverse background it is important to know so that mistakes are not repeated.

Like I said, we should learn from past mistakes.
