BONÈ Issue #26

Page 1

Hi Bonè readers,

Don’t worry, we’re not here for making any unreasonable New Year’s resolutions for next year. We know that coming up with something that you’ll stick to can be exhausting and draining, especially in the middle of a never-ending pandemic. But you can reach your goals easily if you have a plan of action. We came up with some reasonable ways on how to write attainable New Year’s Resolutions for 2022 and how to stick to them.

Don’t come up with goals that you don’t have complete control over.

Rithel Emerenciana @iamrithel

Write down things that are in your power to create and achieve. If you want to go to the moon, it’s not going to happen next year. Elon Musk hasn’t set a date yet.

Don’t Create Disappointment

Set your goals high, but not too high. Always be prepared in case something happens by having a plan B.

Go for Healthy Habitual Changes

An all healthy lifestyle can seem like a hype at the moment but it doesn’t kill to go for a something that will change your life and the environment for the better.

Tackle an Academic Goal

Learn something new. Read a book. Listen to podcasts. Watch documentaries instead of love and drama series. Watch the news. Follow a masterclass. Be open-minded. You’ll grow!

Go for Those Business Aspirations

2022 is a great year to start something new that you’ve always wanted to do. That promotion at work, a career switch, or maybe even starting your own business! Go for it, now is the time!

Help Others

The pandemic has shown us how much we need each other. Sadly, a lot of us are still in a less fortunate position than others. Donate, volunteer, or join a charity event. Be generous. When you do good, good will come back to you.

Now that we’ve given you the tools, grab your pen and write down your goals. When you’re done, hang this up or put it in your journal. You’re going to do great in 2022, don’t just believe it but feel it! Let’s make 2022 the best ‘rebound year’ that it possibly can be.

Happy HOLIDAYS, Rithel Emerenciana - @iamrithel

‘Pan de Jamón’ Surprise your family and friends this Holiday with a delicious Pan de Jamón!

INGREDIENTS: • • • • • • • • • • • • •

1/2 cup warm water 1 tablespoon rapid rise yeast 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 4 ounces (8 tbsp) unsalted butter, softened 1 ounce (2 tbsp) unsalted butter, melted 1 large egg 1/2 cup milk 3 tbsp sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 pound smoked ham, very thinly sliced 1/2 cup raisins 1/2 cup sliced olives 1 large egg yolk

METHOD:

Place the warm water in the bowl of a stand mixer. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let stand for 5 minutes. Add 1 cup of the flour, the butter, and egg, and mix well using the dough hook attachment. Add the softened butter and another cup of flour and mix well. Add the remaining ingredients and knead until smooth, adding a bit of extra flour if the dough is too sticky. When well kneaded, the dough should be soft, shiny, and smooth. Place the dough in an oiled bowl. Cover with

plastic wrap, set in a warm location, and let rise until doubled in bulk, about 30 minutes. Divide the dough in half. On a lightly floured surface, roll half of the dough into a large rectangle about 10 x 12 inches. Brush the dough with 1 tablespoon of the melted butter. Place half of the ham slices over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border all around. Sprinkle half of the raisins and half of the olives around over the ham. Tightly roll up the dough lengthwise starting with the long edge, sealing the last part of the dough to the roll with some water. Place roll, seam side down, on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and tuck the ends under slightly. Repeat with the other half of dough. Mix the egg yolk with a teaspoon of sugar and brush the mixture onto the rolls with a pastry brush. Lightly cover the rolls with oiled plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for about an hour. Bake bread at 350 F for 30 to 40 minutes, until golden brown. Remove from oven, and let it cool slightly before slicing.

Being someone who has always struggled expressing myself properly, I’ve always looked up to people who are able to do so unconditionally. Whether it’s through their personality, their appearance or through the use of art. It’s the boundless creativity and expression of people that keeps me so invested. It’s always exciting to see and/or listen to someone and questioning how they come up with such creative expressions. Someone who is no stranger to self-expression is Dillon Rannou (‘Whatside Archive’). Inspired by

of the exhibition were the conversations about Dillon’s art. Breaking down the art along with other people and being able to listen to the many different interpretations and other discoveries people found within his work was appreciative. After all, it is often the case that there is more to art beyond what you can see at face-

He hopes to aid in creating some structure to the community so that artists can connect with each other better, while also forming a hub for aspiring artists to find their own way. When it comes to creating his art, Dillon simply goes with whatever approach comes to mind. However, he also has ideas beforehand. Sometimes Dillon experiments with color theories, other times he simply does his thing. Whether it is using music or

I remember being classmates with Dillon several years ago – I’m glad to see him making a name for himself and being another young blood that’s part of Bonaire’s growing art community. I can’t wait to see more of his ideas brought forward and shared with the island, hopefully inspiring more people to do the same!
