“The vanitas still life is a traditional composition that harkens back to 17th-century Holland. The painting itself is in the same classical style that would have been found in the halls of Misselthwaite Manor. The ephemeral nature of the eggs, nest, and wilting flowers remind us of the temporary nature of life. The wind rifles through theblankpaperswaitingtobefilledwith the next adventure, which the key unlocks.”
