6. Filing Workers' Compensation Claims in Louisiana

To file a claim for workers' compensation in Louisiana, injured workers should notify their employer within 30 days of the injury. It is always better to file a claim closer to the time of the injury.

Injured employees may not receive benefits if workers' compensation claims for medical treatment are not filed within one to three years of the accident date. If there's a dispute about the medical benefits an employee receives, submit a Disputed Claim Form for Medical Treatment Appeal to the Office of Workers Compensation Administration Medical Director. Employees will likely need to file a disputed claim for compensation form, and depending on the case, disputed claims can take six months or more to resolve.
