BOMA Toronto Being a part of an organization like BOMA Toronto has been a key ingredient in how we manage our day-to-day operations. Mentorship Matters
BOMA is launching a Mentorship Program for its members Mentors and Mentees foster knowledge sharing, fresh perspectives and can open new pathways for approaching challenges and career opportunities. Mentorship Matters BOMA Toronto’s exclusive Mentorship program is designed with our members in mind. Members from all backgrounds and membership types will have the opportunity to accelerate their development and learn through this shared experience. Members Classes PRINCIPAL MEMBERSHIP (PR) Individuals or companies who are actively involved in the ownership, trading or management of buildings in excess of 25,000 square feet.
EMERGING LEADER Emerging Leader memberships are those MEMBERSHIP (EL) individuals who are 35 years of age or under and are employed by an owner/manager firm in the Commercial Real Estate Industry.
ALLIED MEMBER (AL) Individuals or companies who supply goods or services, materials, equipment or systems to the commercial real estate property industry or provide a professional or consulting service to the industry as the board may from time to time deem appropriate for the category. Each Allied company will be limited to two (2) membership places only.
AFFILIATE MEMBER (AF) Individuals who are employed by an organization having an interest in BOMA’s business and operations, but who are not directly involved in the management of real estate or the sale of goods and services to the industry. There is no limit to the number of affiliate members within the organization.
NOTE: All memberships are held by the individual named but are owned by the member organization and cannot be transferred to another organization. OPTIONAL: Canadian Member-At-Large (CMAL) membership entitles members to receive the BOMA international Magazine as well as preferred rates on the Experience Exchange Report, BOMA publications on-line seminars, and at the annual BOMA international North American Commercial Real Estate Conference (Applicable Fee).

Career Growth & Professional Development Wednesday, January 25, 2023 Senior Industry professionals shared their experience and answered a variety of questions at this first Emerging Leader event of the year. The discussion focused on developing key leadership skills and attributes, insights into how to navigate challenging conversations, and building negotiating skills and overall experience. Q & A Highlights How do you go about leadership development?
How does one develop their management style?
• Consider executive coaching and establish relationships with mentors early in your career. Take advantage of HR services and resources.
• Give others credit! Take ownership when things go wrong, applaud the team when things go right.
• Build your own brand. Peers and Senior/Executive VPs you’ve previously reported to can help guide leadership style. • Stay interested. Stay curious. Stay focused. Keep up your education and take inspiration from resources outside of commercial real estate (books, seminars, podcasts). Use your commute time to listen and learn. • Get to know your team and be a good listener. Learn how to communicate with different age groups and different work styles. • It’s not a sign of weakness to ask for help. Seek assistance when your list is too long.
• Be your own advocate. Know where you’d like to go and communicate your goals with superiors. • An employee could be set up for failure without proper direction. It is the manager’s responsibility to provide clear expectations. • Don’t put off the tough conversations. Have a plan and a script (but don’t read it). Be honest and direct, and aim to determine positive outcomes. • To be successful at work, you need to be successful at home. Model work/life boundaries for your team. • The first-time managing people is tough. Don’t continue to do your old job. Delegate and trust others, think more strategically and have faith in yourself. Your superiors put trust in you for a reason!
