More than fifty years ago, Bolidt started from the vision that synthetics offered many untapped possibilities. This basic principle has proved its worth since. Bolidt laid the foundation for a breakthrough, by replacing conventional materials like wood and metal with thermosetting synthetics. On bridges, in railroad construction and in shipbuilding. But also in commercial and industrial building, where flooring systems and roof car parks have been continuously innovated by Bolidt. Pioneering work that resulted in patents and recognition. Equally revolutionary is the combining of different disciplines. Whenever it is useful or required, Bolidt crosses disciplinary boundaries. For ultimately, it is the result that counts.

From durability to fire resistance Bolidt’s strength is the strength of the material. Thermosetting synthetics offer the best of two worlds. Functionality naturally comes first. Bolidt’s synthetics are wear resistant, maintenance friendly and, due to their elasticity, crack resistant. The material is pore free and therefore highly suitable for application in environments where hygiene is a key issue. In hospitals for instance. There are product versions that withstand corrosive solvents, are fire resistant, sound attenuating or heat insulating. There is a ready-made solution for every specific situation.

From flooring system to façade panel

Thermosetting synthetics are pre-eminently versatile materials. Our products can therefore be applied in widely divergent areas. Bolidt supplies wearing courses, grouting compounds and ship’s decks. But also crash test dummies and façade panels. An exceptional application is the one in submarines of the Dutch Royal Navy. Bolidt developed a system that seamlessly connects the batteries, which are embedded in synthetic material, to the skin of the submarine and can resist even the biggest shocks.

The benefits of synthetics compared to traditional materials are recognized by the market. Bolidt continues to actively look for segments, in which its products can add value. Innovation is second nature to us. What is impossible today, might be possible tomorrow.

From industrial building to cruise ship Bolidt flooring systems can be applied on any scale. From small to big. From a single floor in a small-scale industrial building to an athletics track of Olympic proportions. The appearance of modern synthetic material does not have to be inferior to that of traditional materials. A special example is the alternative for teak that Bolidt developed for application in the yacht and shipbuilding industry. The controversial and costly wood has been surpassed in functionality. Qualities that are essential at sea, such as weatherproofness and maintenance-friendliness, have been added to the material. On shore, on the other hand, where available space is utilized as efficiently as possible, Bolidt’s wear-resistant roof car parks can ease inner-city parking problems.

From mother-of-pearl to three dimensional Appearances also count. Because Bolidt’s synthetics are applied in liquid form, the resulting surface is seamless and smooth. Nearly all colours are available. Plain or multi-coloured. Patterns can be created, mother-of-pearl can be added.

Incorporating a print or picture is possible. Even 3-D effects can be applied. The aesthetic possibilities are almost endless, the result always appealing. In form and colouring, down to the minutest detail, flooring systems from Bolidt are tuned to the interior design.

From Erasmus Bridge to Auckland Harbour Bridge A bridge is one of the most intensely used constructions in present-day society.

Each day, thousands of vehicles drive across it. The bridge surface has to endure hard usage. Too hard sometimes. Wear resistance and durability are therefore important issues for bridge builders. Bolidt’s wearing courses and adhesive layers last for fifteen to twenty years, are water absorbent, less susceptible to damages and lighter than asphalt. The Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam, for instance, is fit to withstand years of use due to its wearing course from Bolidt. Our experience with bridge surfaces spans three decades. We have used our own formula to lay wearing courses in places as far as New Zealand and Thailand.

Synthetic resin based systems have the advantage of the possibility to adjust the shape, thickness, colour and design per project and per customer. Consequently, the application is a specialist job, to which proper preparations are essential. Efficient and high-quality processing is our first priority. Because stagnation means regression, Bolidt regularly organizes trainings to keep the expert skills of its application teams and the companies that have joined its partner programme up-to-date.

From dialogue to bespoke product We do not modernize on our own. Through dialogue with customers and designers, Bolidt finds new inventive solutions. The Bolidroom design lab is available for experiments with colour, composition, texture and compilation.

This research has an interdisciplinary character and always starts and ends with the customer’s wishes. Bolidt employs mechanical engineers, chemical analysts, industrial engineers and process technologists.
