Overcomer:Volunteering

I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Harvest Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. This volunteering project was initiated through Campus Outreach at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. As a volunteer I had the job of removing waste from a facility that hosted families that were low income. Harvest Center also provided services for the children of these families, but the goal of the organization was to get parents back on their feet and into a job that would pay them livable wages. My favorite part of volunteering was being able to meet new people and work alongside them. I was truly able to learn from that experience that we all have to be willing to look out for one another in order to progress as a society, because if we are selfish then it hurts everyone. If you consider volunteering, then make sure you do it for the right reasons and have a good heart behind the service you provide.
