The cheapest of the three coin varieties are American Eagle coins in mass. They mainly offer to people who want to buy silver as an investment. The U.S. Mint does not sell them directly to consumers and lacks a mintmark.

In San Francisco, these coins were produced from 1986 to 1998 and again from 2011 to 2013. In addition, they were struck in West Point from 2001 to 2010 and in Philadelphia from 1999 to 2000.

When purchasing bullion coins, look at the grade to determine the country of issuance. Even if the coin lacks a mintmark, it was produced in San Francisco if it has an "S" on the grade.
