WhatisaPlatinumCoin?

A platinum coin is a form of money manufactured from the precious platinum, a chemical element. Even though some platinum coins are legal tender in the countries where they were produced, due to the high price of the metal, they are typically used more for investments than for regular cash transactions, and their face value as legal tender is typically much lower than the actual value of the metal. Several government mints, including the United States Mint, the Royal Canadian Mint, and the Royal Mint of the United Kingdom, make platinum bullion coins. Platinum coins, which are frequently referred to as rounds to distinguish them from coins produced by the government, are also produced by privately operated mints.
