A Matter of Giving and Growth: Idaho Leaders Cultivating Success with CHRIS TAYLOR, Fisher’s Technology

Chris Taylor, CEO and Co-Owner of Fisher’s Technology, is inspired by his work and his company every day. “Fisher’s Technology has a great team that is driven to succeed and grow,” Taylor said. After 18 years at Fisher’s, he’s still “obsessed with culture” and prioritizes cultivating a healthy and abundant work culture, which radiates into the larger community.

Taylor, a Boise native, finds the ever-changing technology landscape challenging, however, it is a challenge he and his colleagues work through each day with eagerness and tenacity; his team “is driven by these challenges” while also remaining committed to their customers and to having fun, which Taylor said is integral to the workplace culture.

For Taylor, relationship-building is key, especially when the going gets tough. With 200 employees and fourteen different offices, each branch of Fisher’s finds its own ways to recreate based on the interests of the employees, whether that means bowling, holding ping pong challenges, or other culture and community-building activities.

Another way Fisher’s builds community within its ranks is by advocating for its employees to support the community beyond the workplace. Employees are encouraged to volunteer, and volunteers are recognized for their efforts.

As an organization, the company also participates in philanthropy through contributions and sponsorships, which sometimes act as part of a larger sales and marketing strategy. Still, Taylor said, participating in annual giving without the expectation of return is a key part of building community.

“We choose somewhere that pulls on the heartstrings of our company,” Taylor said. Through such efforts, Taylor and his team incorporate kindness and compassion into the culture of Fisher’s Technology.

So how does one achieve the role of CEO? “Surround yourself with amazing people: you become who you spend time with. Also, while scary, always say ‘yes’ to speaking in public,” and finally, “be humble—keep a humble mind. Keep that humility as you progress in your career.” This, Taylor states, helps one keep a “beginner’s mind,” something Taylor said he encourages his team to keep and continue to nurture.

With hard work, drive, and a “beginner’s mind,” Taylor and his colleagues at Fisher’s Technology optimistically navigate a swiftly-changing technological climate, and Taylor serves as a good example of how maintaining the helm of a healthy work culture can benefit the community and culture that surrounds a business.
