Annual Leadership Conference in Sun Valley
The Chamber’s Annual Leadership Conference features national, regional, and local speakers on a topic important for the future economy of the Boise area. The theme for this year’s conference is “Looking to the Future: Growth Is Not a Dirty Word.” The conference is from Sunday evening, April 22, to Tuesday at noon on April 24, and will be in Sun Valley, Idaho. The conference is presented by Republic Services, sponsored by Blue Cross of Idaho, Givens Pursley, LLP, Intermountain Gas Company, Midas Gold Inc., Northwest Nazarene University, St. Luke's Health System, University of Idaho Boise, and Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. Boise is the answer to rising costs and employee shortages The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation (JKAF) is a Boise-based, private family foundation committed to the vision of making Idaho a place to learn, thrive, and prosper. Since its inception in 1966, the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation has given over $732 million, focusing in the areas of learning, community, and awareness. The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation honors the legacy of Joe and Kathryn Albertson, founders of the Albertsons grocery store; however, not to be confused with Albertsons, LLC. The Foundation manages its grant-making by invitation-only. Over the last few years, the foundation has committed significant resources to grow world-class Scott Madison, Boise Metro Chairman of the Board, Intermountain Gas Company and Roger Quarles, Executive Director, J.A. & Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation
recreational opportunities in Idaho through projects like Rhodes Skate Park, the Boise Whitewater Park, and by providing the lead gift to help Bogus Basin meet their fundraising goal for their $20 million, 10-year master plan. Most recently, the foundation announced they will be working in partnership with the City of Boise to bring a state-of-the-art bike skills park to mountain bikers of all ages and abilities.
Executive Director Roger Quarles shared a bit about their giving philosophy. “In addition to the support we provide in the areas of learning and community grant giving, as a private family foundation, JKAF is often uniquely positioned to bring sometimes hard conversations to the forefront, with the intent to drive continuous improvement and ultimately greater opportunities for Idahoans.” One example, he said, is the foundation’s “Don’t Fail Idaho” awareness campaign. “Joe and Kathryn Albertson believed education was the path to prosperity. Elevating and maintaining education as the No. 1 priority in Idaho is important to us both because it speaks to Joe and Kathryn’s vision, and because without innovation in education, our youth will continue to miss out on the opportunities they could be pursuing otherwise in an ever-changing world.” Learn more about the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation through their "2017 Year in Giving Review," available online at jkaf.org/2017-year-in-giving-review.
