Western Select 10th Annual Limousin Sale

Page 1

With the 10th Annual Western Select Sale approaching we certainly can reflect on the impact this sale has had on Limousin genetics across the world. When Scott and Rebecca came up with the idea of Lloydminster hosting an open consignment Limousin sale - contingent on high quality, selected cattle - with a focus on bred females, the sale saw its beginning. Over the years we have had consignments from Manitoba to B.C. Throughout those ten years just one consignor has been consistant - thank you to Greenwood and your family. We always welcome back Limousin programs who take a year or two off. The 2021 year is coming to a close, and what a year! Weather extremes, feed and water supply issues, and many families faced personal loss. This fall’s feeder prices are steady and our purebred sales across Canada are extremely active with strong prices. The bred heifer category is once again a deep set carrying services to the best bulls available. The fancy 2021 females are an incredible group and the black Dillinger son has herd bull written all over him. The Bohrson Marketing Services team takes great pride in the Western Select event. If you need help or an opionion on your selection(s) give Scott, Taylor, Jaxon or Martin a call - we would love to talk “Limos” with you. Best regards,

Big footed, easy fleshing and athletic. These are the first things that come to mind when evaluating this homo polled, hetero black son of the late Richmond Wrigley SRD 43W. This bull exhibits the traits we rate highly within our program. The consistency within the maternal pedigree is one to take note of. Four maternal sisters walk the pasture here at Double B. DBCC Juke Box Hero’s full sister is slated to become one of the next great young females on the ranch. Year over year she cranks out the good ones, don’t miss the opportunity on her last impressive offering. Scotal measurement on Oct. 15 is 31 cm. Half down sale day, payment in full upon delivery!

Here’s another member of one of the most dominant flushes we’ve done to date. Her brothers and sisters have topped the Western select for consecutive years. Zoom Boom is still an active donor for our program and generated over $200,000 in progeny and embryo sales. 707H was part of the keeper pen after we sold her very similar sister last year to Pinnacle View and Venture Livestock for $15,000 but we decided we needed a feature black bred for this year’s Western Select.

Titus 04H is out of the Excellence Sale high selling Full Monty bull (owned by Ken-Doc Limousin), who’s stayability, gestation, milk and maternal calving ease are all in the top 25% of the breed and make him an epic momma cow maker. The Monty calves have been pen favourites from all visitors this spring and summer, they are stout, soft and big capacity females. Titus is quiet, long spined, with a deep soft middle and big top and she has lead cow written all over her. She is going to produce big dollar bulls every year. These Monty’s are very very cool and we excited for this to be one of the first breds to be offered to for public auction. GGP 100K & Homo Polled Test Pending

One of the first God’s Country calves to sell and she’s a special one. If you’re looking for a unique show heifer prospect; in terms of hair, colour and design she’s worth a look. She comes from a beautiful Westwind x Too Much Fun daughter that has been a top producing cow. Her sister PYN 27H sells as a bred heifer. This one will be fun to show and make a great cow that can be bred multiple ways at the end of the day.

NEM Jade 23J is an extremely long bodied heifer from a dam who is hard to fault and never misses. She comes from a powerful cow family starting with her grand dam KGS 10X pictured below and her dam KGS 10A also pictured below. We currently have six females working in our herd from this cow family. 23J may be one of the most feminine, angular, and sound heifers in our heifer pen this year. We think very highly of her and feel she would make a fantastic addition into someone’s herd.

We began our Lim-flex breeding program with the intention of offering a crossbred option to our commercial bull buyers, and after 10 years of retaining all of our females to grow the herd, we are excited to offer our first registered Lim-flex female for sale. Jorgie 10J is a great example of the type of female we strive to breed - appealing from all angles! She is moderate framed with tons of rib and muscle shape, and just keeps impressing us as she develops. Out of a first-calf SAV Rainfall daughter, Jorgie has the style and maternal strengths to go to work as a show prospect and develop into a powerhouse cow.

We’ve been hearing a lot of great things about the RPY Tank calves, and our herd is no exception; Tank progeny have risen to the top of both our bull and heifer pens. Joliette 116J is one of our favourites, with a bottomside pedigree that traces back to one of our strongest maternal producing cow families. Joliette is long-bodied, deep flanked, and has an excellent disposition - she would make a great option for a Junior project. Combine that with her off-the-charts growth EPDs, and you have all the ingredients of a performance cow in the making.

Passion 119J will be the first Wulfs Eisenhower calf to sell in Canada. When we imported the Eisenhower semen in 2020 we were expecting some exciting calves, but what we got has greatly exceeded out expectations. The Eisenhower calves are correct, powerful, soft made, and stylish. Passion carries all these qualities and is beyond impressive. She weaned with a dominant 120 ratio and has showed no signs of slowing down. The HC Polled Manhattan on her maternal side has always been one of our favourite cow families to boot. The heifer is a real eye catcher! GGP 100K & Homo Polled Test Pending
