If there is one thing our family has learned raising cattle it is that it takes a team of people to do it. A team of people whose knowledge helps us on a daily basis work towards raising a productive cow herd. This team includes family, staff, friends, bull customers, vets, feed companies, seed companies and cattle sale management staff to name a few. So “Thanks Team” for supporting our program and helping us improve our herd. Tom always says, “ A lifetime isn’t long enough when it comes to breeding cattle”!

The cattle business remains strong and we continually try to stay on top of our breeding program with our customer needs in mind. We are certainly excited about our 2018 bull offering. As most of our customers know we run a strong maternal cow herd of functional cows that are productive, have good feet and good udders. We feel our bull quality is solid with performance built of great genetics. Our bulls are consistent and moderate in their makeup and have excellent weaning weights and attractive EPD’s. We are proud to stand behind these fellas for our customers. All the purebred bulls have been sire verified using the 50K Sire Test.

R-Plus Reload is the proven herdsire who we purchased from R Plus Simmentals as the lead off bull in Marlin’s 2013 sale. USA semen rights were purchased by Denning Farms, Gunn Simmentals and Springer Simmentals. His offspring have been very well accepted in Canada and the USA, and he has without a doubt made an impact on our herd. Reload ended his career at WFL this past year and semen is no longer available on the open market. Lots 1-3 are potentially the deepest set of Reload sons we have raised to date and they will be easy to find sale day.

These three bulls come off one of the most consistent mating’s we have ever used. WFL Red Doll 9072W is our red baldy donor cow that has stamped our herd and still to this day is sound, stands on a correct foot, and is great uddered. At nine years old she still stands out in the herd! She is a direct WFL Red Doll 6016S daughter, and for those who know our herd, the Red Doll family is next to none. We have seven full sib heifers to these three bulls which are some of the best replacements females we have raised and we are excited about the maternal potential in them. The maternal combination of WFL 9072W with Reload leaves these bulls good haired, with lots of muscle shape and structurally sound.

Each one of these bulls weighed in the top 5 at weaning time. This is the 5th, 6th and 7th son to sell from this WFL 9072W x Reload mating. Sons from this mating have sold to Ron Gardner (Olds), Allan Jones (Balzac), Doll Simmentals (ND) and Crossroad Simmentals (Shell Lake, SK). Here is a Reload son that is good haired, smooth made and nice through his lines. This bull is sound and has good testicular growth. His dam WFL 1141Y is a very structurally correct Wheatland 440P daughter. We have three daughters off WFL 1141Y and they are functional, maternal cows that do a solid job raises calves each year.

Here is another dark red complete Roadhouse son. He is one of the thickest Roadhouse calves on offer, in a moderate, free moving package. His dam DANA Ms Pearl 529C is a Mindtrip daughter that did a terrific job raising this guy. She weaned him off above the average weaning weight in our bull pen. What more to ask from a first calving cow!

Roadhouse has tremendous length of spine, is great haired, is dark red in color, and he consistently stamps this on his progeny. WFL 9E is off of an impressive first calver that is good uddered, nice through her lines and is very feminine in her appearance. She goes back to the “Red Doll” cow family (she is a full sib to dam of Lot 9 – WFL 61E).

Here is another impressive, powerful Westcott son that is a “Westcross”. His dam is a black R Plus 6019S daughter that is powerful, and nice in design. She sold a daughter to Young Boys Cattle Trio (Pickardville) in our Top 50 Female Sale. Again, the Westcott sons are big bellied, wide topped, soggy made and have lots of performance.

Here is a bull that has some very strong genetics on each side of the pedigree.

We combined one of our best producing black cows with a son off of a top producing red cow! His dam WFL Black Flask 8068U is the mother to the notable calving ease WFL Absolute 51Y! This dam has done nothing but out produce herself each year. She has sold two high selling daughters to Nikkel Farms (Bittern Lake) in 2016, and Double Bar D Farms (Grenfell,SK) in 2017. The combination with Westcott adds performance and muscle shape to a cow that is soft made, and moderate. This is her third son to sell in the sale. She sold sons in the past to Rancier Farms (Killam) in 2012, Rob and Linda Scott (Didsbury) in 2014! We love this bull and his pedigree, and we are excited about his future!

He is also very docile and good over his top. This bull has lots of maternal strength coming from his pedigree. We still have his dam and grand-dam in our herd and we have used their sons as herdsires in our breeding program (WFL 118B and WFL 84D). His dam, WFL 7030T, is an 11 year old black cow that is sired by the none other LFE Mr. Lewis 327K and she is hard to pick apart. The Red Lotto bull was selected from the Labatte program and was our choice for one of the best red blaze bulls available for sale that spring. Lotto was selected for his muscle shape, performance and of course the Pashmenia cow on the bottom side. Lotto’s progeny are thick, rugged made bulls that are all exceptional haired.

This bull is one at the top of the group of the Lotto bulls. He is wide from behind, deep through his rib and carries his width over his top. He is performance filled, and soggy in his make. His dam is a big black Ultimate Choice daughter that is tanky and powerful just like her son. This guy impressed us at weaning, weighing in the top 10.

This guy is a chunk! He is moderate, and is extremely stout like Mountaineer.

He is very complete for his size and had a 75lbs birthweight. His dam is a black LFE Crossfire daughter that is moderate, nice uddered and did an awesome job raising her first calf. The Mountaineer bulls are hard not to like!

This is a dark red SVS Reddington son that is big boned, deep sided and carries lots of mass. This guy has stood out in terms of bone and growth since he was young.

His dam WFL 408B is also an embryo daughter off of Lights Out and WFL Sweet Licious 1044x (Westcott’s mom) who had lots of mass and size. Here is strong maternal combination with Captain Morgan on the top! Talk about growth! The dam, WFL 408B, is a full sib to the dam of lot 41.

Here is a Reddington son that comes off some very maternal genetics. We flushed his dam WFL 2023Z this year and we are excited for her calves to come. She is stems from the “Licious” cow family that has built up a reputable image in the industry. She is great structured, perfect uddered and very feminine. We also sold a heifer calf out of her to Harvie Crest (Didsbury) in Friday Night Lights in 2016.

We invest heavily in our walking herd sires and expect a lot from them. We, like our customers take herd bull selection very seriously.

The bulls were weaned in September and have been developed on a TMR ration of cereal silage, cut hay, and Country Junction Pellets. They are fed to show their genetic potential to produce red meat without compromising longevity. Our herd for many years has been on the comprehensive herd health program CCHMS – Dr. Waylon Wise of Crossfield. The bulls have received all appropriate vaccinations and parasite control as well they have been double vaccinated with Fusoguard for footrot control. In short, we have done all we can to offer a trouble-free product, however we do know that problems occur and should a problem arise that originated here you can rest assured it will be dealt with in a no bullshit manner. We have been breeding Simmental cattle for 47 years and have always tried to treat people the way we would want to be treated ourselves.

The heifers on offer represent our bull battery well and should go on to be functional productive females.

Here is a heifer that has a ton of calving ease in her pedigree with Manifest and Cobra both in there. Manifest has worked very well in the heifer pen with the calves being the right kind, marketable. Bulls out of Manifest have been sought after through the bull sale for their calving ease and correctness. We don’t expect 86E to mature out very big but will be hard to fault in her makeup.

Another black Anchorman combination that worked very well. Deeg Ms 142E is moderate but long bodied and deep in that middle third as well as extremely hairy. Her dam, Deeg Ms 22Y had a daughter go through this sale to Percyview Farms as well as a Cobra daughter in herd that has a great udder and is very sound.
