SIMMENTAL BULL SALE Tuesday February, 19 2019 ON THE FARM /// VERMILION, AB

CHAPTER ONE

a program that invests in it’s future...

welcome WELCOME!! It is with great excitement and a few nerves we bring to you our first ever bull sale, which will be held on

the farm in our new sale/calving barn! We have grown our herd from 8 commercial cattle to 165 Purebred Simmental cattle in the past 5 years. This was no minor feat nor was it done without some assistance but we sure are proud of what we have for you. We are purely a family run operation with our “hired help” consisting more of slave laborers. Our crew consists of Marley (4yrs), Cash (2yrs) and Jaycee (1yr) and the 4th laborer is set to arrive in May. We truly believe that a family who works together will stay together. There are not many days you will find Kelly doing chores without at least one kid sometimes all three. As many of you know we have sold our bulls privately off the farm for the last 3 years and have had real good success with that formula so the decision to move to a sale wasn’t one that was took lightly. As our numbers continue to grow, we felt now was the right time to make this move. We always liked the one on one aspect of selling directly off the farm as it allowed us the opportunity to show off how we manage our bulls. It also gave us a real chance to show off the momma cows that we are very proud of. We still urge you to get on out to the farm and have a look at the bulls before sale day as we definitely feel this is our deepest set of bulls to date. Unlike most operations who start from 1 or 2 cows we were very fortunate to start with 60 cows and some really established cow families when we brought the purebred herd over from Jenna’s parents Don and Tammy Williams of Leroy Saskatchewan. When Don approached us about taking over this venture from them as they had “enough other stuff on their plates” as he put it; we thought long and hard and ultimately decided it was a great opportunity and jumped at it. The Williams family had started selling 2 yr old bulls many years prior as it gave them an opportunity to grow the bulls out at a slower rate which in turn helped these bulls last for their customers. We really liked their vision and have adopted it into our own operation. Thank you Don and Tammy for this amazing opportunity. As you will see we are offering 1 yearling bull in this year’s sale, which may seem a bit odd to some of you. Two-yearold bulls IS and WILL ALWAYS BE the heart of our program as we really believe in the value it has brought to our customers. We also have two bulls from Wallgren Farms who we would like to welcome to our inaugural sale. There have been big dollars invested recently in herd bulls and we have felt the need to start offering some females. These females will be moving into purebred operations that calve in January and February, therefore our females need to be of age to compete. Going forward we plan to increase these yearling numbers. We will be calving 40 cows early February this winter with another 125 calving in April and May. Now about the bulls… We are very excited with the set of bulls that we bring to our first sale and really like how uniform of a group they are. These are “cattlemen’s bulls” that are meant to get out and work. If you want to see “hog fat” bulls you are definitely at the wrong place. These bulls are built to last and get out and walk and cover some cows. Our bulls are brought along slowly as calves and don’t need to be pushed as they spend their “yearling” summer out on pasture with nothing more than green grass and a mineral package. They are brought into the yard in early October where they are put on a ration. This is made up of corn silage, straw and some oats and barley. Typically what you see at this time of year on our bulls is what you get. They have gone through their growth spurts and we like that a lot of the unknown of how they will mature is taken out of the equation. Please come anytime to have a look around the farm and see for yourself how we manage these bulls and the momma factories that are bringing them to you. On sale day come early and have a bite to eat and enjoy some good ol’ Vermilion hospitality! See ya on Feb. 19th!

Sales Management Welcome to the first annual W2 Land & Cattle Bull and Female Sale held at the Waltz home farm. The passion and dedication that Kelly and Jenna have towards building an elite cow herd is very evident as they have acquired excellent genetics to compliment the highly productive core group they acquired from Jenna’s parents in SK. For the last few years they have successfully sold their bulls privately and we are excited they are hosting this event that will showcase their program with awesome hospitality to boot. A single yearling bull with an awesome set of two-year-olds will be on offer from W2 Land & Cattle. The Lot 1 bull is a Captain Scream and he needs no introduction to the industry as he is a true breeding legend and this son is a prime example of his breeding abilities. The extra-age bulls are a progressive cattleman’s dream as they are developed with longevity in mind and backed by their hard working cowherd. They are sound, deep, stout and have dimension throughout with a nice blend of calving ease and power bulls on offer. The Wallgren family will offer a couple of bulls from the top of their progressive program and you can invest with confidence. A red and black will be on offer and we are positive you’ll be happy with what you view. A select and high quality set of commercial open heifers from the highly respected W2 Farms program. You can tie into these as they are ideal replacement females and ones that will have great ROI. The quality people behind this sale make it a great reason to plan on attending the first annual event. We are confident you will be impressed with the offering when you arrive but if you can’t make it, feel free to contact any of the BMS staff to represent your needs in a professional manner. The bulls are sure to impress and we are positive the hospitality will be great so we look forward to visiting with you in Vermilion. Bohrson Marketing Services Ltd. 1: Scream at Me 4F is the real deal! We have never offered

a yearling bull up for sale until this Captain Scream son came along. With only being an early March calf he is already showing so many of those true herd bull characteristics. Huge quartered, big across the top with a big square foot under him. The part of this bull that we may like the most is how soft made he is and big ribbed just like his famous sire BGS/BM Captain Scream. Captain Scream’s semen is selling for over $400/straw with there being limited supply due to his untimely death. When we were deciding what to breed arguably our top red cow, we knew Captain Scream and her would work well together. This Crosby dam has risen to near or on top of our red cows at W2 with her production record these last couple of years always bringing in a top calf in the fall. With this being the first set of Captain Scream calves to sell take the opportunity to add a real neat breeding piece to your herd early.

LOT 2: Here is a feature bull for us, and one that we are darn proud to have bred. This Circuit Breaker son puts it all together about as good as any bull in the offering. Long sided, big square hip, really nice topped bull and super clean through that front end with a real tidy shoulder on him. He will calve really well. Breaker is out of a first calf heifer that ranks right near the top of her age group. She brought in another dandy heifer calf this fall and looks to be climbing the ranks here at W2. His sire, Wheatland Circuit Breaker, has some really good young cows in production for us now. All built the same way, stout with perfect udders. This guy will sell early on Feb. 19 and should have a few admirers.

LOT 3: Here is a bull that we have had a lot of admirers of since day 1. The deepest ribbed and chested bull in the offering for sure. He sets down a real big square foot and can really move for such a massive bull. Brick came from one heck of a black cow who goes back to “On Target”. We unfortunately lost 403Z last fall, which really is a shame since she was destined to head to the donor pen here at W2. There is no doubt in our minds calves off 44E will weigh down the scale come fall time. Don’t miss out on this powerful herdsire candidate!

LOT 4: This Red Mountain grandson has risen to the top of the red bull pen this year for a lot of different reasons. 27E has had a lot of friends this fall that have seen

him for his dark red color, great top and perfect hair coat. When this bull gets out and moves he really is a treat to watch as he holds himself together so well. This was the first year we had used this Red Mountain son purchased out of Ashworth’s and just tested him out on a select few cows. He has spent the last two years in the heifer pen where he has done a great job for us. We expect this son to calve equally as easy as his sire, while not giving up any performance in his calves. On the bottom side is one of our top black cows that is out of our Stout son who has done a real nice job for us throughout the years. A herd full of cows like this one would make a guy a lot of money… Perfect uddered, huge ribbed and really attractive through that front. A real feature bull for us this year.

The KWA Mountain bull was one of the first two bulls to walk in the ring the day Don picked him out at Ashworth’s. Being that high up in Ashworth’s sale order that day was a real testament to what they thought of that bull and we feel the same way. 56E comes from a real moderate cow that came out of the KOP program in Manitoba. We expect 56E to follow in his parent’s footsteps being real moderate. A bull that would work really well on british based cows that you need to add a little jam to. He won’t be hard to find come sale day. PAGE 8

This very well could be the most intriguing bull in the whole sale. 503 and his half brother pictured below are the results of an experiment Kelly did while AI’ing a couple commercial yearling heifers. The sire Rendition, is a black baldy bull who we thought may give us some real nice black baldy commercial replacement heifers, but like most of my experiments we had a hitch in the plan. Two solid black bull calves. 503 has had that herd bull look for a long time and in our minds you can’t put a bull together much better than this guy. If this guy was a papered bull he would be the type of bull that may very well be staying right here at W2 as we feel that is the kind of potential breeding piece this guy is.
