The EPDs listed in this sale catalog are the product of the Canadian AngusONE Genetic Evaluation, calculated in partnership with the American Angus Association. Therefore, EPDs for Canadian Red Angus, Canadian Black Angus, and American Black Angus animals are directly comparable to each other. EPDs are values that predict how the future progeny of an animal will perform relative to the progeny of other animals in the same breed, expressed in the units of that particular trait. For example, weaning weight is measured in pounds thus the WW EPD is expressed in pounds. Another way to look at it is EPDs measure an animal’s value as a parent.

EPDs are based on pedigree information and performance data such as weight information and are then compared to other animals within a contemporary group. The different traits are adjusted to a standard age to ensure that all animals are equal when compared. The right EPD for you will depend on your cow herd, your management and your breeding goals. Mindbender was the high selling bull we purchased from Bar-H Land & Cattle's 2020 sale. He is a long, deep bodied bull with a very quiet demeaner. A calving ease bull with performance and stoutness. We selected this bull for his maternal strength, he is out of a 14 year old cow that was flawless in her make up and foot structure.

Welcome to the Scott Stock Farm 2022 Bull Sale!

Everyone at Didsbury Vet Services is proud to be involved in the herd health program at Scott Stock Farm. All cattle on the farm are part of a vaccine, deworming and breeding soundness protocol, which sets these bulls up for success on the farm and at their future homes.

Lifelong health of these bulls is a priority at Scott Stock Farm and this starts with their hardworking mammas. The cows are on an annual killed vaccine program to ensure each dam has a robust immunity and their colostrum is loaded with antibodies for the calves as they hit the ground. At fall preg checking all cows receive a killed IBR/BVD vaccine, 8 way Clostridial vaccine, and Scour Bos 9. Topical ivermectin is applied at this time to establish internal and external parasite control.

All calves receive vaccines to prevent respiratory disease and Clostridial infections to allow them to reach their maximized growth. This modified live calf vaccine protocol involves Bovi-Shield Gold One Shot (IBR, BVD, PI3, BRSV, and Mannheimia) and Ultrabac 7/Somubac (Clostridial diseases and Histophilus). Calves first receive these vaccines at pasture turn out in the spring and are boosted again right before weaning in the fall. Internal parasite control is established with LongRange which is given with spring vaccines. This product ensures the calves are free of internal parasites for up to 150 days, and sets them up to thrive throughout the winter.

Prior to the bull sale we perform a complete breeding soundness exam and semen evaluation of all bulls. Each bull is examined to ensure they are sound, have a strong confirmation, are in excellent body condition, and are free of any visible defects. The testicles, epididymis, and internal sex glands are palpated prior to semen collection. A scrotal measurement is performed to confirm all bulls meet minimum requirements for yearling Angus bulls. The penis is assessed during semen collection to verify each bull can protrude normally and they are free of warts or any other physical defects. Sperm motility and morphology are evaluated for each individual bull. Each bull is determined satisfactory or fit to breed if they pass their physical exam, scrotal measurement, sperm motility, and have 70% or higher in normal sperm morphology. If a bull does not meet the minimum requirements they will be deferred, which means they will be reassessed and confirmed to pass prior to leaving the farm at a later date.

The amount of hard work and care put into the health and wellbeing of cattle on Scott Stock Farm is extraordinary, and it is apparent in this excellent group of bulls. We are grateful to have a minor part in the production of these bulls and look forward to being involved in the future of the Scott Stock Farm herd. General Information BOARD/DELIVERY: SSF will feed all bulls until April 15, 2022 at no additional cost to the buyer. If the buyer wants the bull at a later date than April 15 arrangements can be made for SSF to board the bull at a fee of $3.00 per day per head. SSF will deliver all bulls in Alberta at no charge to the buyer. If delivery is outside of Alberta, please contact Jonathan to discuss delivery terms & conditions.

INSURANCE: The bull(s) become the property of the buyer as soon as the bull is sold. Insurance will be available sale day and Scott Stock Farm Ltd. requests all bulls staying at the farm for a later delivery date be insured. SSF is not responsible for injury or death.

SEMEN: SSF retains half semen interest in all bulls.

TERMS: Terms of sale are cash or cheque. All bulls must be settled for at the conclusion of the auction.

DISCOUNTS: Bulls must be paid for in full on sale day to receive discounts. Discounts not applied to partnership bulls.

BULL HEALTH/GUARANTEE GUIDELINES: All bulls will have passed a satisfactory semen test and visually appraised for soundness by a licensed veterinarian prior to sale day. Bulls, if failing to be breeders, will be replaced by a bull of equal value and quality or a sale credit will be given towards the purchase of another SSF bull. No refunds will be given. Scott Stock Farm Ltd. will follow the terms and conditions as stated in the Canadian Angus / Canadian Charolais Association Breeders Guarantee Guidelines on all bulls sold.

All bulls are on a complete herd health program including Ivermectin at weaning and again in January.
