RIVERFRONT th Annual Angus Ranch Bull Sale At The Ranch

April 1, 2022 at 1pm

Riverfront Angus Ranch On behalf of our family, we would like to invite and welcome everyone to our 5th Annual Bull Sale on April 1, 2022. We are excited to be moving the sale home this year and are looking forward to hosting everyone that can attend. After the last couple of years, we are hoping to get back to normal and see everyone sale day. However, if you are unable to attend, the sale will be broadcasted once again on DLMS. Also new this year, we are excited to be working with the Bohrson Marketing Team. They would be happy to help with any phone bids or questions about the sale offering. 2021 will certainly be one that we won’t forget. It has been full of highs and lows for our family. We made the step to move onto the main yard and coming with that was a renovation and the excitement of a new house. We were able to use some new purchased land for the first time and also made the decision to host the bull sale at our own place. We have enjoyed watching our kids grow up and be involved in more things. The boys continue to play hockey and Paisley started playing competitive volleyball. The summer brought a new experience with the kids starting to take cattle to shows, where they learned a lot and we have met some great people. Unfortunately, 2021 also brought the loss of Rachele’s Grandpa Aldo. He really meant a lot to us and was our biggest supporter of the business. We wouldn’t be anywhere near where we are today without his support and couldn’t thank him enough. He was very excited at the thought of having the sale at home and we know he will be looking down with that infectious smile. The year was also tough in the agriculture world, with a widespread drought and little feed and pasture around. We were very happy with how our cattle performed through this and were happy to see a very good preg check and heavy calves in the fall. I believe our cowherd is getting stronger and stronger every year and am happy they can perform in tough conditions as well. We believe this business all starts with the cows and we have culled hard as we have grown. The cattle have great udders, solid feet, and are easy keeping, maintenance free cows. I think it shows in the bull pen, as it would be our most solid and consistent set of bulls yet. There is still a variety from calving ease bulls to performance orientated, but the quality continues to improve year after year. As always, the bulls are available for viewing anytime, and of course their dams will be also readily accessible. The ranch is located just 5 miles from Medicine Hat, and we would love to have you over for a visit. We hope to provide you with a very good bull buying experience and will do everything we can to accomplish that. We would like to thank all of our past customers and friends who have supported us in the past. It truly means a lot to us and we feel very privileged to do what we do. Any questions feel free to reach out and we hope to talk and see you soon.

The Bohrson Marketing Team

It is again a pleasure to be working with the progressive and hardworking folks at Riverfront Angus Ranch. The 5th Annual Sale comes with great excitement as the Riverfront crew brings the sale to the farm. The bulls on offer are very uniform and the quality is deep across the entire group. It is important that rumen health stays a priority throughout every stage of the bull’s development, therefore, the diet utilizes a chelated mineral package to enhance the bull’s immunity and complement the bull’s growth patterns as they develop. The bulls are slowly developed on a forage-based, total mixed ration that is balanced to maximize the bull’s genetic potential and to promote lean muscle growth, enhancing the longevity of the bulls. The Riverfront cowherd utilizes a chelated mineral package throughout the year which is essential to the overall health and longevity of the sale bulls on offer. The nutrition and development of the bulls along with the entire cowherd is continually being monitored to meet environmental and season conditions to compliment the animal’s overall health.

RIVERFRONT ANGUS RANCH 5th Annual Bull Sale

Jan 15 1250 lbs

We chose 118 to lead off the catalog as we believe he is as exciting of a bull as we have to offer this year. We only have the one son of the $200 000 HF Alcatraz, but he is a good one. This bull reads a fresh pedigree combining Alcatraz, Stunner and the famous Royal Lass cow family. The Great Grandam is one of our foundation cows and has a feature Firebrand calf in this sale. The Royal lass cow family has been the most productive in our herd, with many daughters retained and three others sold at $11500, $11000, and $7500. The Dam of Riverfront Alcatraz 118J is no different and may be one of the best. She was just a 2 year old and not only raised one of the heavier calves of the year, bred back early and calved in early January again. She has a very maternal look to her being deep bodied, big ribbed and with a neat and tidy udder. The cow has been shown on her own and as a pair with success everywhere she has been. The calf himself is impressive, showing great length of spine, very solid footed, and tons of hair. The Alcatraz progeny at our place of been very consistent in being very docile, great footed, and hairy. Added bonus with this guy will be the calving ease, at a moderate birth weight of 88, he is smooth shouldered and has good extension in his front 1/3.

105 will be a top calving ease bull on sale day. Another fresh and exciting pedigree, Riverfront Showman 105J was an in-dam purchase from the famed Hamilton Farms herd. The first Showman progeny sold last year and are in high demand in the industry. 105 has remarkable depth of body and thickness. His Epd’s are in the top of the breed with +12 for calving ease (Top 4%), -0.6 for birthweight (Top 7%), +72 for weaning weight (Top 3%), and +132 for yearling weight, (Top 1%). He had an actual birthweight of 73 Lbs and was one of the top ADG bulls in the pen after weaning. His 2-Year-Old dam is an impressive young cow with a big future at our place. Some of our best young cows are also sired by Big Sky, they are consistently moderate framed, deep bodied, and good uddered cattle.

151 is the lead off Firebrand son and one that I think will leave an excellent set of daughters behind. The dam is the 313 cow who has had a big influence on our herd and one who has been here from the start of our business. She is the great grandam of the lot 1 bull and has been designated Premier/Elite with the CAA this year. She has once again calved early in January this year at 9 years of age and has one of the best udders in the pen. We really like the Firebrand calves and he will represent our biggest sire group in next year’s sale. The bulls have a look to them, they are thick, deep bodied with great hair and good feet. The daughters are powerful and have very good udders. Riverfront Firebrand 151J himself has a great look to him, being up headed, deep bodied and smooth made.

Lot 4 would be the stand out calf of the summer. 127J showed early maturity and from a very young age had a look that always caught your eye. This comes as no surprise as his Dam would be one of our most favourite cows we have owned and unfortunately, we lost her to injury this summer. She had entered our donor program and had a big future with us. We fortunately have retained a couple daughters who are some of our best as well. This bull has a big-time pedigree going back to the legendary Beauty 6R cow at Brooking Angus and would be very similarly related to the impressive and up and coming Brooking Mercury. 127 will add base width and early pounds to his calf crop. He is soggy, hairy, and progeny of both sexes will be the right kind. Her 2 previous sons were sale highlights and sold to WB Cattle Co and Erwin Schlenker Farms. 414 reached Premier Dam Status in 2022.

He’s up headed, smooth made, and will make a nice edition to a set of cows. The dam is a young Upward daughter who is showing early productivity in her young career. He has been on the shortlist as one of our favourites and had an impressive ADG of 3.4 LBs/day between weaning and yearling weights. His epd’s rank him in the top 5% for weaning and 8% for yearling weights. The dam is great young Crossfire cow from Hamilton’s and would be the favourite from a group of heifers that were purchased. He is smooth shouldered, owns a moderate birth weight, and was one of the high ADG bulls from weaning to yearling. His young dam is already showing her productivity with her first calf a full sib leading off the catalog last year. She has bred up early in her first 3 calving intervals and seems to wean a heavy calf every year. The Grandam is bigger framed Consensus cow that was part of a group if heifers that got us started. We used Upward for quite a few years and this will be the last son offered. We really like the daughters, as they are big ribbed, tidy uddered and are quite maternal. The sons are big growth with added frame, hair, and bone and 102J is no different. The dam 682, is a big bodied female that is super quiet, and out of the female maker Earnan. She is very fertile and is usually one of the first cows to calve every year.

104 has been one of the top calving ease bulls we have had all year long. He had good performance weaning off his 2-year-old dam at over 800lbs. He has a look about him, with good muscle, a smooth shoulder, and a calving ease head. His dam is an impressive stunner daughter, and hales from generations of great cows. She is deep bodied, feminine made, and solid footed. On the top side, we sampled Gold buckle to try to Incorporate the great HA Cowboy Up. We don’t have many calves but this guy sure looks the part.

101 came to us as an in dam purchase from Brooking Angus. He is sired by the popular calving ease bull Sitz Major and out of a good looking Sensation daughter that goes back to the famous Remitall herd. Lot 20 has a neat look to him and will be a sleep all night heifer bull. He is good haired and has good shape for a calving ease bull. Certainly an outcross pedigree for customers, that offers predictability.

Lot 21 would be the first of the U2 Impulse calves to sell at our place. We purchased Impulse to use on our heifers and a select group of cows. We thought he had a lot going for him the day he sold and were most impressed by his foot quality. He has matured into a pretty moderate made bull, with a ton of muscle and herd bull look. We have calved him out the last 2 years with great success on our heifers. 138 himself exemplifies his sire and comes from one of the best cows on the ranch. She would be a half-brother to the lot 4 bull and would be a direct daughter from our donor 414B. She is a little more moderate for an Upward daughter, but is very good uddered, solid footed, and the right kind. 138 is a super deep, thick made, big butted bull.

152 will be a desirable choice out of the Impulse sire group. He shows great extension in his front 1/3 and hold his head high. Another calf that is really good haired, smooth shouldered, and has an attractive 85 lb birth weight. His dam would be one of the most eye appealing cows we have raised. She is wedge shaped, massive bodied, and has a near perfect udder. 708 would be the grandam of the lot 1 bull and comes from the productive Royal Lass cow family.

She has a very good udder, is great footed, and is very docile. 301 is as wide as she is tall and sold a son to Dubeau’s in last year’s sale.

In Memory of Aldo Pederzolli Aldo Pederzolli of Medicine Hat AB passed away at the age of 91 on Friday, October 8, 2021. Aldo leaves behind his wife Glenda Pederzolli, sons Randal and Rory Pederzolli, Grand Children Rachele (Ashton) Robertson and Rae Leigh Pederzolli and Great Grandchildren Paisley, Dryden and Greeley Robertson. He was predeceased by his father Albino and his mother Gemma Pederzolli. Aldo was born on the family farm on May 28, 1930 and found his love for farming and ranching at an early age. He met the love of his life Glenda Volk and they were married on February 19,1957. They had 2 sons (Randal and Rory) and they began to grow the farm and lived in the original house Aldo built in 1957 up to 2021. Aldo was an extremely hard worker, and could be found working long hours into the night up into his late 80’s. Aldo enjoyed many things in life, but none more than life on the farm. In his eyes there was no more exciting time than harvest season, and almost equally in the spring to get out and working land to prepare for seeding. The cattle business played a large role in his life as well. Whether it be in his own cow/calf herd, his feedlot, or more recently in the purebred business, Aldo enjoyed everything about it. He was very proud to be honoured with a 50 year heritage award with the Canadian Angus Association in 2015. He enjoyed good cattle and even more so the people he got to meet at events and sales across western Canada. In recent years, highlights were making the annual trip to Regina for Canadian Western Agribition and delivering bulls in the spring where he could meet and visit with both new and old customers. He was very proud of the cattle and certainly wasn’t scared to tell you about it. He also had a deep love for hunting, and some of his fondest memories were made out with his friends hunting his prized Grizzly bear or Big horn Sheep. He had a deep admiration for all animals and livestock, and he devoted his life to looking after them to the best of his ability. Everybody knew Aldo, and he could make a stranger feel like they have known each other for years. He loved to visit with people and showed genuine interest in what was going on in their lives. He always had time to visit with someone and was very proud to tell you of how well his grandchildren were doing. He had an infectious way about him that made people want to listen to what he had to say. He had a great memory for old stories, and as crazy as most of them were, they were usually true. Aldo had a real zest for life, and really did live his life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed by many.
