Our offering starts with an attractive bull from a highly productive and very sound footed cow family. His dam is a great producer, milks heavily, and is from our “Blackie” cow family which is easily the most influential in our herd. 76T was shown successfully as a bred heifer, then as a 7 year old cow she won Reserve Champion Simmental Female at the 2014 Harding Fair. 2D himself is long bodied, well muscled, sound structured and smooth through his shoulder. Combine that with his 86 lb BW, super short gestation of only 275 days, and his CE and BW EPD’s which rank at the top 20% of the breed, and you have an interesting calving ease prospect that will calve easily on cows, and potentially on heifers too. 2D is also a very docile bull. He was halter broke to show this fall by simply putting a halter on his head and he instantly led. No fuss, no fight, just gentle and calm. He’s a bull that will produce high performance sons while leaving some great replacements in your keeper pen.

Like all our Riddler progeny, 12D is a very long bodied bull with a docile disposition. He’s deep ribbed, deep flanked, and smooth made with an attractive head and soft look about him. 12D has a respectable set of EPD’s being above breed average for all but two traits. He was orphaned on June 6, so you really have to admire his performance. His Gold Mine dam was a good producing, attractive, beautifully uddered cow and I always wished I had more females like her in my herd.

Titan is a bull that was special from day one. Just analyze his photo and performance numbers and you will agree. He’s well put together with his length of body, wide top, deep rib and flank, soft middle third, and smoothness and extension through his front end. He caught the attention of many through the summer and although we ended up not showing last year, Titan was ready to anchor our show string. He has great performance, milk and maternal EPD’s, his dam is one of our best red cows, and he has the likes of the Charos, Bodybuilder and Prime Cut in his background. Lots of maternal strength here.

Ever since he was a baby, 35D has always been the “who’s that?!” or “wow!” bull that made visitors stop and take a second look. His sheer mass, rib capacity, power, performance and herd bull look has always been impressive. This guy has the extra size advantage, and adequate bone and foot to support his mass. He is a free moving bull with a docile disposition, with a pedigree that has proven to be a reliable genetic combination. The $170,000 Riddler consistently sires high performing, deep ribbed, long bodied progeny, and Linette is our $17,000 leading donor who passes along her impressive mass and volume to her calves. 35D is an ET son from an incredibly consistent flush that stamped each flush mate with the same desirable characteristics. With so much consistency and predictability bred in, I believe 35D should breed true to his type and produce a calf crop that is every bit as impressive as he is.

5D has been a farm favorite all year long. He is a high performance tank, packed full of muscle with big rib capacity, yet maintains that soft look we all try to breed for. His dam is the best uddered cow on the farm. When I say her udder is absolutely perfect, I mean it. The Timely cow family has been very reliable in producing cattle with superb udder quality, lots of milk, and high fertility - a combination that is sometimes hard to come by. 5D was born a twin so had a lower 88 lb BW, but with his mass and power he is a bull that is strictly for use in the cow pen. With the likes of the Miss Xciting 14X and IPU Red Satin 177M donors, and the Timely cow family in 5D’s pedigree, this bull should sire some fantastic daughters in addition to powerful sons.

This bull’s dam brings in one of the heaviest calves every year. She’s getting up there in age, but is still on the farm for good reason. 36D’s sire, Navigator, was a bull we raised and showed, winning Grand Champion Bull Calf and Reserve Champion Simmental Bull at Ag Ex in 2014. We used him for clean up for two years and are very pleased with his calves as he consistently stamps them with the deep, soft middle that Navigator possessed. 36D inherited an extra shot of performance and frame from his dam, and can be expected to sire some growthy steers and good milking daughters.

10D might be the most exciting calving ease bull we’ve produced to date. He was special from day one and he knew it with his “look at me” demeanor. His curve bending performance is what we all search for in a calving ease sire - starting at a wee 77 lbs, weaning off his perfectly uddered first calf dam at 866 lbs on Sept 17, and boasting a 1482 lb 365 day adj YW. He’s made even stronger with CE and BW EPD’s at the top 20% and 10% of the breed. 10D’s sire, Circuit Breaker, is a bull we have used confidently in our heifer pen for the last 3 years, and Overdrive was our sleep easy walking sire that consistently sired low BW calves with incredible vigor. 10D is a docile, flawlessly structured bull with lots of muscle expression and width of top, softness, depth and spring of rib, and a smooth shoulder that ties into a nicely extended neck and cute little head. He has thick hair and walks out freely. This bull is a true sale feature, he’s heifer approved, and will leave you some fancy, good performing calves at the end of the day!

A cool, fancy calving ease bull that is arguably the thickest bull in the pen. His width of top and quarter will blow you away. He maintains a soft look with impressive dimension for a calving ease bull, and has a smooth, nicely extended front end. 21D has a fuzzy, thick hair coat and is very quiet. His CE and BW EPDs sit at the top 15% of the breed, and his EPD for ribeye area is at the top 1%. He’s an embryo calf with one of the more sought after, exclusive pedigrees available today. The young dam of 7D has done it again, raising us a top bull for the second consecutive year. This year she has a nice Riddler heifer at side - it doesn’t seem to matter what way we breed her, she cranks out a good one every time. 7D is a really thick bull with a wide, square top and an attractive profile. He has just enough softness and shape through his middle third, and sound feet and legs beneath him. His ribeye area EPD at the top 10% of the breed indicates he should pass down his thickness to his progeny. The sire of 7D, Full Money, is a flush mate to the famous Mader Iron Sugar donor cow.

Here’s a soggy, stout, wide topped and thick rumped individual that started acting like a mature bull at a very young age. His EPDs for ribeye area and marbling are at the top 15% and 20% of the breed, respectively. He has beautiful thick hair and a very easy going disposition. 15D’s dam is a good milking cow and a maternal sibling to Lot 6. She has raised three good bulls in a row and has a humdinger of a Riddler bull calf on her again this year.

We bought 911D alongside his dam in spring 2016 from the good folks at Acomb Valley Farms (yes, Bruce and Arleigh were pretty comical in naming this bull after me! ). 911D is a growthy, well balanced bull with an ideal frame size and soft, deep middle. He has an attractive profile, sound structure and quiet disposition, with a milk EPD at the top 30% of the breed.

Calving Ease - The ease with which a bull’s calves are born to first calf heifers. EPDs are reported as deviations in the percent unassisted births. When comparing calving ease EPDs of two sires, the larger EPD indicates a higher percent of unassisted births for calves sired by that bull. Birth Weight - Calf weight at birth adjusted to a mature dam equivalent. Expected progeny difference is reported in pounds. The larger EPD indicates a heavier average birth weight. Weaning Weight - Calf weight taken between 160 and 250 days of age and adjusted to 205 days of age and a mature dam equivalent. Expected progeny difference is reported in pounds. The larger EPD indicates a heavier average weaning weight for calves sired by that bull. Yearling Weight - Weight taken between 330 and 440 days of age and adjusted to 365 days of age and a mature dam equivalent. Expected progeny difference is reported in pounds. The larger EPD indicates a heavier average yearling weight for calves sired by that bull. Maternal Calving Ease - The ease at which a sire’s daughter calve as first calf heifers. The larger EPD indicates a higher percentage of unassisted births for calves born to the sire’s daughters. Maternal Weaning Weight - The weaning weight of animal’s daughters calves. Expected progeny difference is reported in pounds. The EPD value predicts the difference in average 205 day weight of an animal’s daughters calves compared to calves from daughters of all other animals evaluated. The evaluation reflects both the maternal ability of an animals daughters and the growth potential of their calves. The larger EPD indicates heavier weights due to daughters ability to produce heavier calves. Milk - Expected progeny difference is reported in pounds of calf weaning weight. The milk EPD is a predictor of a sires genetic merit for milk as expressed in his daughters, or in other words the part of weaning weight attributed to milk genes. The larger EPD indicates heavier average weaning weights due to daughters greater maternal ability.

How it Works...

AUCTION GUIDELINES Welcome to the Rainbow River Simmentals Online Bull Sale. We have tried to create an easy to work with online auction process. Please read the following instructions and recommendations. If you have any trouble or questions, please get in touch with us. AUCTION DATES AND TIMES The online auction will run from 9:00 am CST on Friday, March 3 with the online sale close out to start at 7:00 pm CST on Sunday, March 5, 2017. A sale order will be posted Sunday afternoon. If you do not have computer access or do not feel comfortable with bidding online, phone in bids will be accepted at the numbers listed on the Sale Information page in the front of this catalogue. Please arrange your phone bid in advance of the sale close out. Register online early to allow adequate time to have your name entered into the system. HOW TO PARTICIPATE • In order to participate in the online auction you will need to pre-register and obtain a buyer number. • To do this, go to the LiveAuctions website, www.liveauctions.tv, and select Rainbow River Simmentals Online Bull Sale. • After logging in, click on “REGISTER FOR A BUYER NUMBER”. • This form requires you to fill out your bank name, city, state/province, phone number and a contact person. • If bidding has already started you may still register, but please remember that authorization to bid is not instantaneous. We recommend that you register for a buyer number at least the day before the closing of the sale. HOW THE AUCTION WORKS • Once you have a username and have received a buyer number, you are ready to bid. • You will see a screen that is unique to your user ID. There will be a list containing the sale lots. If you click on a lot, the video clip or photo will be displayed to the right. The next bid, current price, proxy bid and manual bid buttons will be displayed below the video area. This page will react to your bids by stating “YOU ARE IN” or “YOU ARE OUT”. • No one else will be able to see your bid and you will not be able to tell who else is bidding. • Each time you login, the auction screen will display your personal bidding information. Your auction screen is unique and private, displaying your activity only to you. • Remember that you must have the lot that you are bidding on selected. This is where it tells you if you are in or out. It is here where you can also see your proxy bid settings (as applicable). WHAT IS A PROXY BID? With a proxy bid, you can enter your maximum bid and then sit back and watch. Your maximum amount is kept confidential from other bidders and the seller. When you enter a proxy bid amount, the LiveAuctions system automatically places bids on your behalf, using only as much of your maximum bid as is necessary to maintain your high bid position. If another bidder had a higher maximum, you will be outbid and the system will tell you that “YOU’RE OUT”. But, if no other bidder has a higher maximum, you win the final bid. If the lot closes out for less than your maximum, you pay only the amount of your last bid. This means that you don’t have to keep coming back to re-bid every time another bid is placed, making it more convenient and less time consuming. It can also greatly assist those breeders that can’t be near a computer or are busy with other duties at the time of final bidding and close out. THE FINAL CLOSEOUT BIDDING PROCESS The final close out bidding will start with the first lot on the pre-posted sale order. At this time you may only bid on this lot; it’s video will be displayed as well as the clock counting down. There will also be a LiveAuctions tech announcing what price we are at and the amount of time left on the clock (this information is also visible on your screen). When the bidding starts, the bidding clock will run for a pre-announced time (usually 30 or 45 seconds) or until there is a bid, at which time the clock will rewind to its original 30 or 45 seconds. For example: if the bidding clock gets down to 5 seconds remaining then a higher bid is submitted, the clock will then restart. The rewind process will continue with each bid received until the pre-announced time has expired without a bid. The lot will then be considered sold to the last (highest) bidder. Once that lot has sold, we will sell the next lot and so on, until all of the lots have been closed one at a time. BIDDING TIP: Each year we receive a few calls from breeders who wanted to bid on a lot, but failed to watch the bidding clock and let the bidding time expire. If you are interested in a particular lot, be sure to submit your bid well before the clock winds down to its final seconds. Sometimes due to an unexpected delay in internet speed or a delay in your computer audio, your bid may not be submitted in time to beat the few remaining seconds left on the clock. This is where using the proxy bid can be useful ensuring you do not miss a bid! We advise you to participate in the sale close out on a desktop or laptop computer connected to reliable internet, if possible. Be aware that the internet connection or audio can delay if using an ipad or smartphone. Also, be sure to compare the visual bid amount to the bid that is being asked for on your audio. If the visual bid request is higher, that means you are experiencing a delay in your incoming audio. In this case, watch your screen and bid according to the higher bid amount visually displayed on your screen. If you have any questions feel free to contact any of the LiveAuctions staff as they would be happy to assist you.
