Welcome to the 42nd annual Pembina Triangle Simmental Sale. What a difference a year makes! Though 2022 has had its share of ups and downs, we are in a lot better shape now than this time last year. Calf prices are at an all time high and cow numbers are low. Perfect time to invest in some quality genetics.

We have 8 high quality breds on offer this year from the top of our program. Once again the Brooks daughters are front and center in the Reds and Game Face, Blacktie, Skors Blaze and Kill Switch round up the Blacks. We cannot say enough good things about what Brooks has done for our program. His sons are always popular but it’s the females that get us so excited. 6J is the type of female we always strive to produce. Soft made, deep sided and easy to look at. Her full sister weaned the heaviest bull calf in the pen this fall. To say that the dam of this female , affectionately known as Spice, got lots of attention this summer would be an understatement. She has had plenty of admirers over the years from show judges to astute cattlemen. She is arguably the best female we have ever produced and has so much femininity while also maintaining substance and capacity. This is the first female we have ever offered off RXR 19B and she is special.

It is no secret that the PTSA sale has produced some profitable return of investment for its buyers. The dam of this female is no exception. Oakview Casey 38C was a high selling female at the 2016 PTSA sale and has been nothing less than stellar for us. A high selling bred in 2020 to Handford Simmentals and a full sister to 16J that we kept in herd did a bang up job on her first calf this summer. 16J resembles her dam a lot; easy doing, huge barrel and looks like a mama cow already. Jezebel is one of those heifers that we are extremely proud to bring to town but also having a lot of difficulty letting her go. We had plans to show Jezebel this summer, but with the late spring we changed plans and she headed out to pasture. Here is a powerful dark red female that is soggy made with a deep flank yet still maintains a feminine and eye appealing appearance. She has always been a stand out heifer and is always the first one visitors pick out. She combines the Betts presence and thickness with the maternal strength and longevity of the Bengie cow family. Over the years we have raised a tremendous amount of Current Affair sons and daughters. After all these years we still love them. They are consistently good footed, carry exceptional natural thickness, a great disposition and are excellent producers. Following in the foot steps of many Current Affair females before her, Jocelyn is developing in to a broody female with a wide top, and tons of natural thickness and has a fancy blaze to-boot.

When we talk about longevity, fertility and performance KOP Bengie always comes to mind. Here is an embryo daughter of the Matron herself, who at 18 years old we finally retired. Bengie has over 65 registered progeny, and will forever be remembered for her exceptional feet, freight train length and power. Here is your chance to add proven genetics to your herd. Here is a heifer that is following in her mommas foot steps, with tremendous hoof structure, and a long spined, dark cherry red feminine package. Jemma is a female with a bright future ahead of her and a legacy to follow.

Before selections were made for the Triangle Sale Todd asked me if there were any heifers that were off the table for selections. Jazz was that one heifer that jumped out at me that I wanted to keep. From the time she was a couple moths old I loved her crazy dark pigment and her softness. As she grows and matures her pigment gets even darker and she’s developed black around her eyes. Jazz is out of a Precious Thing female that we purchased at Prospect Hill’s dispersal sale as a bred heifer. She has consistently produced heavily pigmented easy doing calves. Oakview Hank is a bull we kept back for ourselves as we always find it difficult to find a true calving ease fullblood bull to use on our heifers. Hank checks all the boxes, easy calving, great pigment, mellow disposition and out of a truly beautifully uddered Metro cow.

Here is another Slapshot female that has the same depth of body, big barrel and mellow disposition that we strive to produce. Joanna is a brood cow in the making who is backed by some heavy hitters. With the likes of Jeremiah, Titan and Slapshot in her pedigree the guess work is gone, she’s going to produce calves that push down the scale. Furthermore, she has the maternal strength from Oakview Sadie who was a heavy milking cow who contributed to Joanna being in the top 1% of the breed for milk and maternal weaning weight.

Oakview Jaelyn is a heifer that has it all put together. Here is a smooth polled heifer that is heavily pigmented and solid made. Here is a fancy fullblood female with a long spine and wide loin. She’s a heifer that you have to admire for her clean front, overall capacity and shape. Here is a heifer that will make herself at home in any program and will turn into a phenomenal cow.

Juniper is a smooth made heifer that goes back to the famous Red Fern cow. Like Fern, she is a smooth made with a big square top and round quarter. In addition, she is beginning to lay down a really great udder. Like the other Guerrero heifer, she carries the pigment right down to her hooves in the front with only small white socks on her hinds.

t’s always exciting to get back into the swing of cattle sales, we enjoy getting out to the Pembina Triangle sale to see our friends and customers for this annual event. In our part of the world, it’s good to see that most people got lots of feed put up this year and I hope everyone reading this has had a better year than last.

At PLCC this year, we are excited to walk IPU Bentley 81F as our main black baldy herdsire. Three out of our four heifers in this sale are bred to our new calving ease sire we purchased with Triple R Simmentals. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get a Red Heat sired bull out of a 56U x Sage cow, which is a genetic combination we are excited about for obvious reasons. We are proud to offer a sampling of our top heifers and welcome you to come and tour the herd anytime.

It’s females like this that is exactly the reason we purchased IPU Bentley 81F. When the opportunity to buy the 4 year old bull came about at the New Years Resolution sale we knew we had to buy him. He originally commanded $92,000 as a yearling and his sons and daughters have been highly sought after across Western Canada. His daughters have nicely made udders and impeccable feet and his sons are heavily muscled with good performance. 17J is a very attractive, angular female with tremendous capacity that is sure to be a top producing cow in any herd. Her blood red Red Mountain dam came from the Workman dispersal as a 2 year old and she has turned into a beautiful cow. 17J is bred to our new calving ease bull, DEEG Shear Fire 11J that we co-own with Triple R Simmentals. We just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get a calving ease bull from the Sage cow family. If you are looking for a top black blaze faced heifer this fall, this is the one, just get it done.

A strong topped Lethal Dose daughter with a touch of white on her face. Her dam is a Delight Simmentals cow that came out of this very sale. She has an ideal udder with small teats, she works hard and weans us a big calf every year. Her bull sold last year to Lee Friesen of Boissevian. 76J is a long sided heifer with excellent feet, good extension and an attractive skull shape. She is a female that is sure to have longevity.

Another Bentley heifer that I likely wouldn’t sell if we weren’t walking him right now. His daughters will certainly make their mark in our herd in the future. A nice red heifer with a big hip and heavily muscled, she is a powerhouse. Her grandmother came out of Friday Night Lights several years back. Her mother is an ideal Skors High Roller cow that you can’t stop looking at. Whichever of the 2 Bentley daughters you take home you are sure to be pleased. Co-owned with Workman Farms.

Well I can’t say enough about this heifer’s mother. We have several daughters in the herd, this cow family is likely the second largest after the Doll family. They are good milking productive cows, you will see some bulls in the pen this year that are directly related. This heifer is sired by the great KWA Roosevelt bull, we haven’t used much of him ourselves but we sure like what we have seen across the country. We bred her to Captain Blaze who has a short gestation so be sure to look for a calf in late January. We have 2 Blaze daughters off of 110B that are producing in our herd and are beautiful cows. I think this heifer has a big future, don’t let her get away.

Mary is a complete package kind of female. She is thick, deep, and smooth fronted with a flashy blaze face. She has a presence about her that demands attention. On top of all that, she has a fabulous temperament and is so easy to work with. We purchased her dam out of the Mader Ladies Night sale last fall, we are very happy with how she did raising this calf as a first calf heifer and are excited for her future here! Jubilee is a red powerhouse! She is one of the thickest heifers we have raised. She’s one that has potential to raise them big thick bulls! Her dam is a hardworking cow that produces year after year! This heifer loves to show off. She always catches our eye as we walk through the pen and it makes me sad to give her up but excited to see what she can do in your herd. We have kept every heifer that has come out of this cow family so this is your first opportunity to get one of your own. She has the length and spring of rib while still bringing lots of femininity and depth to the table. Every cow in this family has a beautiful udder and I am sure she will do the same!

Kacey is a performance oriented female that has tons of rib and natural thickness. She’s been the standout heifer calf all year long. Kacey was part of our summer show string. We only made it to one show, The Manitoba Summer Show, where she was reserve champion heifer calf. Her dam is a front pasture female, square made with lots of shape to her. We purchased her sire from Erixon a few years ago. He has done an amazing job leaving calves with lots of shape and eye appeal.

Karla is a big soggy middle heifer that has all the makings to be a top producing female. She is a quiet female that would make a great junior or 4H project. Her dam is a big bodied feminine female with a good level utter. The dams of our two consignments are RF Nitro daughters. The nitro females are always producing our top end calves. We used Karla’s sire in our A.I program. When we saw his offspring it was an easy decision to add him to our line up.

When Cody came to pick heifers, he came to pick our best. Our three purebred heifers are from the top of our keeper pen, the strongest heifers from some of our most powerful cows. They are all sired by the homopolled, gentle giant, Anchor D Magic Train and will be a worthy addition into your herd, purebred or commercial. Not to be left behind, our two Full Fleckvieh heifers combine femininity with functionality, moderate framed heifers off of hardworking young cows. Miss Jaida is a dark red, goggle-eyed Full Fleck heifer that shows a little more muscle expression on a slightly finer bone structure than her moderate framed, big capacity young dam. Expect Jaida to calve easily and milk well.

Miss Jingle is a sweetheart of a heifer, quiet, beautifully colored, and moderate framed. Her 527E dam is a very feminine cow with a nicely balanced udder and problem free feet and legs. This heifer is hard to part with as we have waited a long time for a heifer out of this cow. She has the potential to wean calves as tall as she is with her Milk EPD in the the top 10% and Maternal WW in the top 5%.

Well, our plans were to keep this sweetheart as a replacement for her dam Perks Black Cali 54Y which is our oldest cow in our herd! We purchased Perks Black Cali 54Y out of this sale as a bred and has produced many bulls and females for us so we decided with Cali bred up for January we would part with her calf this year. All females off Black Cali have become bigger framed females with great udders and Kali will follow easily in her dam’s footsteps. Here is heifer calf with a docile disposition and takes everything new in strides off our black herdsire WILC Harry which we showed last fall and at the Manitoba Simmental Summer show in Treherne this June.

Here is a dark cherry red goggled eye female that comes to you as a homo polled fullbood bred. We partnered up with Alliance Simmentals and purchased Jayda’s dam Oakview Gemma out of the Pembina Triangle Sale in 2020. Jayda’s dam has easily become one of our new donor cows after seeing how much Jayda changed as a calf and with a picture perfect udder. We fell Jayda is going to go out and produce like her dam Gemma. We bred Jayda to our new herd bull WLB 5J a WLB Top Tier 456G son which will make an interesting combination.

Here is a bred heifer that comes from a great cow family that goes back to our top producing cow Deeg Ms Hollywood. Harper was a great combination with TCW Georgia and WLB Encore. TCW Georgia was shown successfully as a two year old with TCW Juno were Reserve Senior Champion Pair in the Simmental show at Manitoba Ag Ex. We bred Juno to our new herdsire WLB 5J a WLB Top Tier 456G son. Juno has always been one of the youngest in this year’s group of breds being born March 14th but with the performance of the Hollywood cow family, Juno has held her own in the pen and show ring against older bred heifers. Welcome to our 42nd Pembina Triangle Simmental Association Sale. As many of us already know, every year bring a new set of conditions. With it, a new set of adjustments that need to be done. For those of that met the new challenges, the rewards. Around here we will had lots of grass in our pastures, and will have plenty of feed for the winter. And if the price, that by brother got for his yearling steers and heifers indicate, we should get good prices for our calves.

I would like to thank, the several repeat buyers, of my heifers from past sales. It gives me the confidence, that my cattle are going to their new homes, fitting in and working for them.

I will admit, my cattle will not be carrying the condition they should have for this sale. The plan was to have my sale heifers selected and home, to prepare for this sale, the first week of Aug. There is a saying “ Man plans, God laughs”. For some reason, I must have been very entertaining to him, because a lot of other things that needed to be done, came in between. The result, 6 weeks later, the heifers finally came home, and selected, just before catalogue deadline.
