Welcome to the 2023 Edition of Pasture Treasures Sale. What an exciting time to be in the livestock industry. We are seeing record high prices everywhere, and I know when I mentioned in the spring, we would have 700lb calves bringing $3.00/ lb I had more than one person tell me I was wrong. They were right; they are higher than I thought. With record high cull cow prices, producers are taking advantage to make their cow herds the best they have ever been, and the future looks absolutely incredible for those of us involved. If there was ever a time to bear down and increase the quality of one’s herd now is the time. With cull cows still selling at high levels, this is an awesome time to cull hard and restock for the future. This year’s group of cattle is very heavily influenced in the Fleckvieh side, as this has been our mainstay for over 40 years, and these cattle strive in our environment. We have been extremely focused and dedicated to developing elite cow families that will contribute to the bottom line. Our Purebred division is something we are very excited about. Over the last few years, we felt as though we needed to elevate our game in this division. Most people assume when they see the “Anchor D” prefix Fleckvieh cattle. It’s exciting to broaden that horizon. We seriously dug in hard here as the majority of the bred purebreds are in the sale only keeping a small handful for ourselves. Further to that we really felt the need for a next level bull in this division. We are proud to offer an elite semen package on “El Dorado” in this year’s sale, as this young stud turned a lot of heads this spring and is the newest member of our bull battery. As always, the majority of the sale will be bred heifers, we will also offer a few embryo lots and semen lots, and a small sample of open heifers. The majority of the cattle are our own, and we are very pleased to have a few guest consignors complimenting the offering. Also keep in mind the World Simmentals Congress will be in Canada in 2024, there has never been a better time to add some Fleckvieh Genetics into your program. Once again all of our heifers went through the AI pen for one cycle. We see a great advantage in doing this, in that not only are these females bred back to Brand Name Bulls, but after doing this the past several years, it has given us an opportunity to better assess physical soundness, quality and temperament when we work with these heifers one on one. They are bred to proven calving ease bulls; bulls that will add value to their progeny. All heifers were Ultra Sounded 28 – 60 days of pregnancy so we are very confident of the breeding information. They will all be redone prior to the sale to ensure they are settled. Our sale is a live event, and is not on internet. Anyone wishing to watch it can do so on the Anchor D Ranch Simmentals Facebook live page. Bidding is not available there; however, you can certainly contact any of our sales staff to assist you.
Anyone interested in viewing this year’s group prior to the sale is more than welcome to stop in for a tour and a visit. If you are unable to attend in person don’t hesitate to call and discuss your needs with ourselves or any of the sale crew as they have been through and assessed the consignments. If we can be of any assistance, please let us know. We look forward to seeing you October 13.
It is humbling work alongside our kids and seeing them flourish in their lives. Both Mackenzie and Garren run towards their dreams and know that anything is possible. We are very proud of them.

We start this year’s sale offering off with an absolute powerhouse. “Jemma” is without question one of the most powerful females we have ever sold. Her pedigree is pretty star studded as well. Her dam just happens to be a full sister “Dakota” one of our top cows. She is the dam of DJ Farms “Gibraltar” bull who happened to be a sale topper for us as well as “Esperanza”. When our kids graduated high school their graduation gift was an unconditional first pick of the heifer pen and “Esperanza” was Garren’s selection out of about 180 heifers that year, so yes this heifer is loaded for bear. This will be the first “Sheamus” daughters to sell, and he is a bull that will no doubt leave an impact in our program and his pedigree speaks volumes. I think I’ve said enough let your eyes be the judge; this is a female that could put someone on the map.

“Jenowyn” is a heifer that in a typical year we likely would have retained for ourselves, however we need to move some volume so she becomes available. She is a plainer marked heifer that quite honestly will slide under the radar. Do not be fooled, this heifer will be a super producer. Her Great, great, great grandmother is a female that came from the Sim Roc dispersal, so yes this cow family has been with us for some time and has held the test of time. Her dam is a cow that always puts a marketable calf in the pen, and this is a cow family that will add milk with perfect udder attachment. As I stated on a normal year we would have retained her due to the fact she has no added bells or whistles, but if you are looking to add a solid hard working female that will consistently produce here’s your girl.

“Jessip” is another female that was originally slated to be in the keeper pen. Her full brother “Karizma” was one of our high sellers going to Crystal Springs Ranch in BC, and another full brother “Swagger” working for Graff Simmentals in BC. Her dam only ever produced one son selling under $10,000 and that was her first calf who sold extremely well. This cow was a producer but unfortunately, she lost a set of triplets this spring and didn’t end up breeding back so this will be her last calf, which makes her that much more difficult to part with. Because we haven’t offered an overabundance of “French Attack” daughters in the past we felt as though “Jessip” had a bit more marketing desire just due to her dam’s track record as she was as good of producer as we owned. Take advantage “Jessip” is the real deal.

We have all had those cows that have just quietly and consistently went about their jobs. “Rochelle” was one of those very cows, and this will be her final calf to sell as age caught up with her. In her time she produced offspring selling to Bill Orlick, Starwest Farms, Sunny Slope Simmentals, and Rod Lindballe, all of Alberta as well as Rocking V Farms in Kentucky & Bauer Stock farms in Ontario. This heifer possesses a great pedigree that offers lots of performance and diversity. Just a very honest solid choice that will make a nice addition to any herd.

“Jazmine” will be the first “Creed” daughter to ever sell. “Creed” certainly created a buzz this spring when his very first sons sold, 9 sons average $26,700, a pretty nice debut for sure. We aren’t selling huge numbers of “Creed” daughters but the ones we will sell are pretty special for sure. “Jazmine” is a twin, and we have retained her sister for our own herd. Her dam was bred back the same way and has an absolute stud of a bull calf at side this year. I cannot say enough good things about this great young cow. I honestly would have loved to retain both females but we simply can’t keep them all. I really like this heifer and the way she is bred, I think this could be a homerun.

“Jermillia” is a more moderate framed easy fleshing female, who traces back to two of our great cow families in “Herlinde & Tyra”. Pedigree alone says this female will work, and with a bit more moderation to birth and frame, she is a female you should be able to throw absolute power at and be prepared for a tremendous calf. I think this is a female that will just get better and better with time and could very well develop into that front pasture poster girl. Her dam is just a second calver with another extremely nice heifer calf at side this year. This is a young cow with a bright future that you will see more of over time.

“Jessilynn” is a heifer we are extremely excited to offer for sale. This is a heifer that has been slated to be a sale feature as a baby. Smooth polled, thick and stylish. A heifer with an outstanding pedigree backed by a great cow family. When we purchased “Radioactive” he was selected as the follow up for “Barbossa” in the calving ease section. He did a nice job there, but more importantly he followed through as being a bull that does produce outstanding daughters as well, much like “Barbossa”. His offspring have tremendous dispositions are very easy fleshing, very sound structurally and his daughters have impeccable udders. ‘Jessilynn” will be a fabulous addition and will be a powerful producer. Colored right, bred right and in a polled package. Pretty special.

“Jewel” will be the lone “Stone” heifer to sell this year. This is a very well put together female coming from a nice young cow we purchased from XRC. I do like the heifer but I think probably one of the strongest things about her could be how we have her bred back. “Imax” is a bull who we have used for several years in the heifer pen with success. Now the neat thing to see is now after all these years how many elite daughters this bull has produced. A bull calf from this cross should be good, but a female could be Epic!

We now have a few of these “Reputation” daughters in production, and they appear to be very good young cows. “Jazlyn” is from a great young “Barbossa” female who certainly appears to have a bright future ahead of her. “Jypsy” has a small back story. We ultrasound all the heifers before they go to grass, as there is no point in keeping opens around. When we initially tested May 18, we discovered “Jypsy” had dead twins in her, so we gave her a shot of estrumate and thought you have a few days with a bull yet, let’s see what happens. Well it did happen as when we re-checked her later on she was indeed bred back. So I guess fertility is pretty high on her radar as she obviously was bred early to AI, and then re bred in a very small window of time. I like this heifer very much and comes from one of my personal favorite “Barbossa” cows. This will be an awesome highly productive female.

This is a heifer that was picked as a sale heifer essentially the day she was born. As silly as this sounds I accidentally tattooed her as though she was a bull calf but soon discovered I was wrong. We don’t have duplicate numbers in our herd so I jokingly said well I guess she will have to be a sale heifer as she has the same number as her dam. Jokingly but true, she is a sale heifer, and a really good one to boot. I think this heifer has a great future ahead of her. Phenotypically perfect, a great pedigree and well just dog gone likeable.

I’ve always really liked this heifer and see such a huge upside to her. We have a few “Fort Knox” daughters in production now and probably if I was to use one word to describe them as a whole it would be WOW! Her dam is a young cow that already looks to me like she is going to be a prolific producer. Her first calf or calves as it were will not show on registry as she had a split set of twins as a first calver. She bred right back and gave us a heifer we added to our own program, followed by “Karena” and now a ripper of a bull calf this year. She is the real deal, and I think “Karena” will follow in her dam’s footsteps.

She was Les’ lone Fleckvieh heifer as she was an embryo he had put in and wasn’t sure what to do with her. Well we had an idea and what an awesome cow she ended up being for us. You have to appreciate the grand dam was a full sister to the famous “Miss Knight 155S & 156S” as well as “Knights Thunder”, so zero guess work for us to make that purchase. The combination with “Mr. Gibbs” was icing on the cake. This is a cow that will work with anything and always looks good. I had mentioned earlier in a footnote of how much we like these “Radioactive” daughters, and how he is somewhat comparable to “Barbossa” in that division. Well please note the dam of “Keritta” is indeed a “Barbossa” daughter. This female will have an impeccable udder, will moderate birth weights and still add grow into her calves. Lots of breeding options available for this young female in her future, she will be extremely easy to build a large list of sires that will cross well with her.

“Klora” is another female I would have really liked to have retained for ourselves. If your market is selling bulls I think this female will be a bull producing machine. This entire cow family has been one of our best in raising bulls time and time again. In fact Garren will be showing a bull calf this summer who is off of “Klora’s” grand dam. It is 7 generations back, but this cow family traces back to one of our best in “Miss Image 21J”. This cow was never flushed, however she still managed to be one of the most influential cows we’ve ever owned and one of our biggest cow families. Mark my word this female will be worth every dollar you spend on her and more. Put a huge check mark by her in your catalogue.

I have said to more than one visitor for dollars invested this may be the buy of the sale. “Kassie” isn’t the big powerful flashy heifer in the group. She is a bit more moderate and much more refined than the bulk of the heifers. Interestingly if you start paying attention to some of the front end producing cows out there you will find several “Imax” daughters. They are super sound, have wicked good udder attachment, and age like fine wine. Then add the bottom side of this pedigree into the mix of “Barbossa, Jahari, Solway Adonis” on top of the “Herlinde” cow family and I think you have a recipe for success. I’ve stated before in our sale with regards to “Barbossa” he didn’t necessarily sire the high sellers himself but several of his daughters raised them. Polled dark red, colored right and a pedigree you can breed to anything, “Kassie” will be a good investment.

She is very fault free, and you just have to appreciate her more and more every day as she develops. Her dam is an awesome young “Shazam” daughter, who we don’t have a lot of but the ones we have are super good. Note on the bottom of this pedigree is none other than “Precious Thing”. “Karlie” is royally bred, and honestly will be as solid of producer as there is in the offering. For the last several years we have run basically 100% of the heifers through the AI pen. We really like this as it gives us a chance to work with them individually to score disposition, feet and legs and overall structure. The down side is when there are 150 -180 in the pen we do occasionally plain and simply miss the odd one. That is the case with “Kenovia”. Please note she was only exposed from late April on as we simply missed her. We were extremely impressed with our first group of “Granbury” calves to sell this spring averaging $16,875. We were so happy with how he calved he was moved into the heifer pen, but I feel as though he will see a group of cows next year as well pulling double duty on clean up in the heifer pen as well. This is a heifer with a solid pedigree and certainly bred back to give you a potential home run.

We have several of these “Precision” daughters in production now and they are awesome cows. “Karley” will fit that same bill. Her dam is a cow we purchased with the Rocking R herd of cows when we bought them and she has been a very solid producer from that group. The mating to “Granbury” will be very good, and quite honestly maybe even a better option. Interestingly enough the dam of “One More Reason” who was the high selling “Granbury” son selling to Double Bar D, SK happens to be a ¾ sister to the dam of “Karley”, so with her being bred to “Granbury” herself certainly adds a lot of potential.

The dam of “Kimsey” just so happens to be a full sister by blood to our good old “Montana” bull. Its unfortunate we never managed to get any semen drawn on him as he was a tremendous bull for us. Very Cool! “Kehlani” is a heifer that I have always really liked. She not the big power heifer of the group, she is a bit more refined, very feminine, smooth fronted, long bodied and so complete. I think this heifer is a female that you will be able to breed to absolutely anything. She will moderate birth weight, yet still have tons of growth and power. “Kennedy” is a heifer we really had no intentions on being in the sale, but when sorting through we just thought she had the “Cool Factor” which could make her a key added piece to this year’s sale. Color, you can’t make them any darker or more pigmented. Performance, she’s near the top of the pack. She’s extremely long bodied, wide topped and very eye appealing. Pedigree, it’s stacked and then the neat part is how often do you see “Pasta, Solway Adonis or Iglhoff” that close on a pedigree, let alone on the same pedigree. Now look what else we did, dipped back in the tank and went Old School, she’s bred to Arnold’s Image. Put the baby to bed, I’ve done seen too much!!

I not only appreciate the tremendous disposition of her, but just analyze her, she’s all there. No she isn’t bred to be the biggest most powerful in the pen, she is exactly where she should be. She comes from an awesome young first calver that we actually purchased from Garren in this sale. I think she gives a strong endorsement as to what to expect from many of these sale heifers. Ironically enough keep in mind last year’s second high seller was one of those very coupons. It’s important to us to have these heifers bred right to calve, but it’s also important for them to deliver what we expect from them, and we expect this to be a very marketable calf inside of this good young female.

We have dug in hard this year to offer some very special females. We haven’t sold an abundance of “French Attack” daughters over the years, and I honestly don’t know if we have ever sold a Polled one…until now. “Kloria” comes from a polled “Stride” daughter that we purchased from DJ Farms, at the Ontario Solutions sale, where she was the high seller that day. We dipped back into the tank to come up with “Kali”. She is the result of an embryo from our great old “Elexis” cow. We were very fortunate to have added this female into our donor pen, as she contributed greatly to our program. We have only ever produced one other sibling from this cross, selling to K-Star Cattle, so this is somewhat of a unique mating and is certainly something we can’t recreate as “Elexis” is now deceased. This heifer has the high probability of being Homozygous Polled, so this certainly adds another element to the overall package and mated back to “Radioactive” offers something quite unique in its own right. “Kali” is a female with unlimited potential. “Kerlinda” is a more moderate framed, very easy keeping female. This is a very typical daughter for her dam. We have 2 full sisters which were retained for our own herd, and another ½ sister is working for Javier Jauregui in Mexico. This female will be moderate in size but huge in production. The breeding to “Precision” should be the perfect cross, and incidentally her one full sister in our own herd happens to have one of the top heifer calves this year. “Kerlinda” is a female you will want to use a high performance bull on to maximize her potential, as this is a cow family that will also moderate birth weights. A very easy female to breed. AI’d to Virginia Precision 16C -1135400- March 31, 2023. Exposed to Virginia Precision 16C April 20 to May 28. Ultra sound safe to AI, due January 11, 2024.

“Katalin” is a female I really encourage you to have a very close look at. As I have already mentioned the “Precision” females have been very productive for us. “Aegon” daughters are extremely easy fleshing, sound footed, very functional cattle. The grand dam “Zula” has been a stellar producer for us for many years. Last spring she produced one of our high selling bulls, going to Wolfe Farms, and he too was sired by “Precision”. I am super stoked about the future of this female. I do think she may be overshadowed a bit in a group of 70 breds, however I think this female will be highly productive, and is honestly another female I struggled with putting into this year’s sale as I see so much value in her. For dollars invested I think this female will be a big time player, and has lots of longevity in her entire pedigree. This is a gooder!

This was a year we decided we simply needed to move some volume as our numbers are getting to become a bit too much work load. I can honestly say if that wasn’t the case this is a female that would have been retained for ourselves. She isn’t the big flashy female of the group but I promise she will be a producer. We sold flush sisters to her as “D” models to Skywest Simmentals. As first calvers I believe both those females hit home runs. Her dam “Saphire” was our go to donor cow for many years and we are fortunate to have a small inventory of embryos left on her. “Keppher” is a female with a very workable and very marketable pedigree and should be a prolific producer for her new owner. Put an extra check mark in your catalogue on her she will be special.

“Keyser” is a female that we own in conjunction with Canadian Donors. Her dam was purchased from this sale and she has been a solid producer. Her mother is a beautiful young cow with a picture perfect udder and maintains ideal body condition year round. Her grandmother was a front pasture type female who is no longer with us, but had a long list of admirers, and then her mother was none other than our old donor cow “Elexis”. “Keyser” will be an absolute rock star. This will be a super productive female with a pedigree to back her up. A female that everyone can appreciate and will work into most everyone’s budget.

So this spring Darryl came out looking for females for the Family Matters Sale. We told him go pick what you want. “Kinley” was the female he came back with. We then decided with our own sale to just throw all our eggs in one basket, and just offer her in our own event. As much as we would love to keep her, we felt she was Darryl’s pick so she goes in the sale. “Kinley” just checks all the boxes. She is super thick, yet still very feminine, smooth polled, great disposition, awesome feet and leg structure, and her dam just happens to be a baby sister to “Precision”. This female was an easy pick as she represents multiple cow families as well as walking bulls in her pedigree within our herd. As an added bonus note her service sire. Everything adds up and she will no doubt be one of our feature females this year. “Kinley” will leave a large gap in our own replacement pen. AI’d to ABR Sir Arnold’s Image -140262- March 31, 2023. “Kaidee” is another of “French Attack” daughters which we are pleased to have a handful of in this year’s sale. I am going to step out on a limb and say he is the BEST BULL we have ever owned. Both his sons and daughters are high quality. They have tremendous structure, shape and overall soundness. They are typically quite easy keeping, well-muscled cattle that are extremely fertile. We are now sampling him in our purebreds as well and they are awesome. “Kaidee” was a heifer we decided to add into the sale based on pedigree alone. Her dam is an own daughter of “Bold”. We were fortunate to acquire a small amount of semen on him and used it in a flush on “Saphire”. This is a special blend and “Kaidee” has a pedigree that is as stacked as you can make them. I do feel this is a female that will absolutely blossom when she gets to be a 4/5 year old cow. Good things are in her future.

Here is a high end producer in the making. “Kinsley” is a high performance female, who just so happens to be a full sister to “Ozark” owned by Wolfe Farms, AB & Silver Lake Farms, MB. This female will completely out produce herself, and I also feel the way she is bred back could produce a grand slam on her first outing. This is an incredible cow family that happens to be one of the largest in our entire herd. Not much guess work here. No she isn’t the first one you will notice in the pen, but I would bet her calves very well could be. For dollars invested I would think this will be one of the great purchases this fall.

“Katrina” does have a little history. We had actually pulled bulls and were hauling cows to pasture, when we noticed her dam was cycling. The only bull still in the yard was “Mr. Gibbs” so a quick breeding decision was made as we ran her into the pen with him right before she got on the truck to head to pasture, hence the reason she is so much younger than the other bred heifers. Her dam did happen to produce the second high seller in our sale 2 years ago, and has an exception bull calf at side this year. The breeding to “Precision” should be a very good cross, and should result in a calf with a little more power as well, while still keeping calving ease and birth weight in check. “Katrina” will be a very functional female bred a bit later for anyone not wanting to calve as early.

We were very fortunate to have purchased “Precious Thing” with LaBatte Simmentals from the Prospect Hill dispersal. We both felt she was a female that could add another dimension to both of our breeding programs, and that is exactly what she did. She has several direct daughters and granddaughters, as well as 2 direct sons in “Ulysses & Matador” that worked in our own herd as well as a grandson in “Sheamus”, so to say she has a huge influence in our breeding program would be an understatement. As sometimes embryo inventories can build up we have only actually ever had one calf from her cross with “Radioactive” resulting in a bull, sold to Simpson Cattle Co., so we felt as though this would be a somewhat unique opportunity to purchase embryos from a highly productive proven pair. We will offer three embryos guaranteeing one pregnancy. This is a very good opportunity to purchase some foundation genetics from the heart of the herd.

“Patty” was the high selling female from the Eastern Harvest Sale several years ago. She is a beautiful sculpted female that offers a lot of different options when searching for bulls to work with her. Similar story in that we have actually only had one calf from this mating resulting in a female that was sold to Kilar Land & Cattle. “Molson” is a bull who has certainly produced some outstanding cattle in his time. They are just simply quite good. This is a great opportunity to once again source some proven genetics. As I mentioned on the previous lot because of a high embryo inventory and not having implanted many from this mating, we felt these were embryos that added value to a new buyer as this is a cross with limited progeny out there. Embryos will be sold with one guaranteed pregnancy.

These embryos would be full sibs to him by blood. “Phoebe” who Garren showed this summer is a full sib to these embryos as well. She is this year’s cover girl too. Many of you may remember her being shown at Farm Fair last year when Garren did his walk around her. If you never seen it ask Ty Wilson, he will tell you the story. Garren caught me on a weak moment this spring when we were AI’ing heifers. We have an extremely limited supply of “Barbossa” semen, so it isn’t just any old heifer that gets bred that way, and you will notice only 2 sale heifers are bred to him. (Both happen to be Garren’s.) I really like “Bellis” and her dam is none other than “Clarabelle” who just happens to be a favorite cow here on the farm. (Just ask Grandma & Grandpa.) The “Granbury” bulls were very well received this spring, averaging $16,800. So not only does this female possess a very unique pedigree, she also carries a very special service. Note that the dam of “Justine” happens to be a full sister to “Mr. Gibbs”. I have to admit I was very surprised to see Garren add this one in the sale, as this is the final calf from this cow. You will notice all 4 of Garren’s heifers go back to his foundation cow “Tyra”, this is the cow that has put him on the map. Zero guess work here and little doubt in my mind this heifer will be very close to the front of the sale order sale day. “Justine” also so happens to be the other heifer bred “Barbossa”, so certainly some added value there as well. If you are looking for one with a different twist to pedigree that could develop into your next donor cow I think this female could be the one and her first offspring could potentially pay for the whole investment.

The best word to describe “Kimber” is sweet. She is the lone “Barbossa” daughter in this year’s sale, and goes back to “Jungle” on the bottom side. The “Barbossa” cows are extremely productive, have great udder attachment, and simply produce. Maybe not the first cows you find in the pen, but their calves usually are. “Kimber” is a granddaughter of the great “Tyra” cow once again, and as mentioned before this cow did it all for Garren. This is another awesome female that you can’t go wrong with. Very angular and feminine, with a big top and lots of rib shape. The “Precision” daughters in production are very good, and this one comes from a really special cow as well. Note the service sire of this heifer as well, as she is bred back to “Viper”. I honestly can say there hasn’t been a single person not comment on her. If you are in the business of selling bulls this female needs to be a part of your business plan. Another thing that adds to her is this is very much an outcrossed pedigree. I remember Mackenzie telling me if you find me a heifer you think I should own go ahead and do it. I came home after I bought the dam of “Adele” and said I have one for you, look at her and decide if you want her or not, otherwise we will keep her for ourselves. Another awesome “Granbury” daughter. I realize his daughters all have a little extra age, but they are just impressive as group aside from that. “Joplin” is big volume, and wide topped. An extremely feminine female in a powerful package. She is quite unique in the fact that she does possess the muscle expression, depth and power she does, as she is a female that also possesses an extreme amount of calving ease as well. We did AI her, but I’m guessing it was a false heat, as she cycled 10 days later and bred back safe to the bull. Regardless the mating to “Precision” will be phenomenal, and should result in an exceptional calf. Please note she is a twin and Mackenzie will keep the full sister for herself. These “Granbury” heifers are from his very first calf crop, what is really interesting is that for a calving ease sire how much growth and performance these cattle have. “Juanita” is a bigger frame female from a larger framed cow, and she will have no end of power. I really like her dam, as she is a female Mackenzie purchased from Langer Fleckvieh. She has a smashing good bull calf at side again this year. “Juanita” is a female that will excel when bred to a thick moderate framed bull. She will be bred a little later which will line up better for some programs not wanting to calve in January. This heifer holds a bit of a special spot in our hearts. This is Corey’s very first heifer to sell in the sale. We are super excited for him to be able to sell her. “Koko” is an absolute sweetheart. She has such a gentile disposition, much like her dam, and as a side note her grandmother happened to be a maternal sister to “Viper”. So not only does she look the part but has an exceptional pedigree as well. If you like them dark red, heavily pigmented, and extremely quiet in a polled package, then be sure to mark “Koko” down on your short list.

SIBELLE PEACH 32Y SIBELLE POL ROSE-ANNE Mackenzie purchased the dam of “Kotton” from Garren in this sale. She was really wanting to add one from this cow family into her own herd. This has been an incredibly productive cow family now for both kids. The “Mr. Gibbs” cows are females you can’t go wrong with. I think the cross with “Imax” will be quite complimentary. This is a female that will just be a solid producer. She should do a nice job regardless bull or heifer, a female that should be extremely dependable to put a marketable one in the pen every year.

We have always been big fans of the “Charo” cow family at Lewis Farms, and Mackenzie was fortunate enough to win the dam of this heifer a few years through the Friends of the Canadian Simmental Foundation fundraiser. She retained a half-sister for herself last year, and decided to part with this heifer. She is one of the broodiest, deepest, thickest heifers in the entire sale. This heifer does have a great pedigree. As mentioned the strength of the “Charo” cow family on the bottom, as well “Liner x Precious” on the top. We can’t say enough good things about the job “Matador” has done for us in both sexes. Now combine that with the breeding to “Top Tier” and adding in another dimension in the “Fae” cow family, could result in a truly outstanding calf. Good things are in this female’s future.

Big fan of this heifer. “Maddie” is a granddaughter of Darryl’s favorite cow on our farm “Brock”. In all honesty we should have retained this heifer for ourselves as we unfortunately had to cull her dam as a first calver after an injury, so this will be her only offspring. She was a beautiful Black Baldie female, who was a ½ fleck, making “Maddie” a ¼ Fleckvieh herself. We have used “Red Heat” in the heifer pen the last couple of years with very good results. We haven’t calved any of his daughters yet but they look to be very broody and should be great cows. The breeding to “Top Tier” should be very complimentary, and with limited supply of semen available now makes these services worth just a little more.

“Jonika” is a blood red, deep bodied female whose dam happens to be a full sister to “Katty” (Lot #64). Her dam is a tremendous young cow that did a nice job raising “Jonika” as a first calver, and has fired right back with a tremendous “Whiskey” bull calf this year. This is a very attractive female who is bred early to “Top Tier”. This should be an amazing cross. We have had really good luck using him as a calving ease sire. His calves are very stylish with lots of muscle shape, and are born with very moderate birth weights. Pretty good chance a dark red low birth weight calf will be the coupon and have a high chance of having a money stripe on its face. If you are lucky enough to get a bull calf it could very well pay for the whole investment.

Her dam is a really attractive “Excalibur” daughter. We now have several of his daughters in production and we are extremely happy with them. “Jescallie” is a female I quite admire today, but I can picture her with a big bull calf standing at side when she is 4 or 5 years old. As I had mentioned on Lot #62, this is a cross we have done before with great success. We have two full sisters to “Katty” in our own herd now, so that made the decision to part with her easier. This is my type of female. No she won’t ever win any ribbons and certainly not the Beauty Queen of the bunch, but I tell you this is what the beef business is about. This is a female that will wean off a monster every year that should stand at the front of the pack, and she will look good doing it. She has great angularity, lots of rib shape, perfect structure and appears to be setting down a beautiful udder. She comes from one of our Black “Barbossa” daughters, and are we ever excited about these young cows. When our kids graduated high school we gave them pick of the heifer calves. Mackenzie’s choice was “Aubrey” who just so happens to be a full sister to “Kelsey”. We also sold a full brother to her the following year to Trevor and Doug Duke, so this is not a new cross, it’s something we have done before with great success. “Kelsey” is unfortunately the last calf from this really good old cow, as time caught up with her. Having said that she did a great job here for many years and went to town as an 11 year old cow, so I would say she did well. This is a heifer we would have loved to have retained for ourselves but as stated before we need to move some numbers so in the sale she goes. Just know when sorting through the endorsement on her is she is one that should have stayed in our herd, I can’t say much more than that.

“Kayle” is another super stout, dark red heifer that will do an outstanding job as a reliable brood cow. Her dam is an exceptionally deep bodied “Westcott” female, tracing back to an outstanding cow we purchased from Virginia Ranch. This is a cow family that could raise tremendous herd bulls, and was as reliable as they come. If you want one that is bigger framed that will lay down your next herd bull, she’s your girl! Her dam, SKY Miss Rivalry 2H, is a beautiful Double Bar D Rival daughter that is quickly becoming a main stay in the Skylark herd for very good reason. Sired by Virginia Vice Versa 540J, 311L is very typical of the 540J progeny……muscle, muscle and even more muscle with fantastic maternal abilities. 311L will be very versatile in any breeding situation… skies the limit with this gal!

DEEG EL DORADO 81K
This spring we were on the hunt for a new Red bull, and not just any Red bull, but the one. Our Purebred numbers are much smaller than our Fullbloods, however we have really focused on trying to elevate the quality of this section the last few years. We have made some significant investments in some front end females, and this year we felt was the time to step out and source “The Bull”. There was a small list of bulls on our radar, but we held off and waited for “El Dorado” as we felt he was the one. He is an absolute athlete. For such a big stout bull it was amazing to see how fluent this bull travels. He has tremendous foot structure, great muscle shape, performance and the herd bull look. We were blown away by how well he collected and froze semen, as well as what a great breeder he is. The day we purchased him my phone lit up like a Christmas Tree within minutes of his purchase. He has created a buzz to say the least. We did sell 5 limited semen packages, (Westway Farms, LaBatte Simmentals, Circle 7, Bert’s NR & Triangle Stock Farm as well as retained in herd use for Deeg Simmentals) exclusive for 2 years, but also told the 5 breeders we would be selling this semen in our female sale. This will be the only additional semen to sell this year. We will sell 3 packages of 5 straws with the purchaser given the opportunity to purchase an additional 5 at a $50/ straw discount from the original purchase price. Semen will be stored at Alta Genetics, and we hope to have him qualified for export by time of the sale. Update on export status will be closer to the sale. This is a unique opportunity to buy in on a bull we feel will have a huge impact on the breed.

When buying herd bulls, we always focus on the cow families and man is Cartel ever genetically star studded. Not only is Cartel’s dam a cow that Anchor D added to their donor roster, but her grand dam “Desiree” was one of Anchor D’s top donor cows for many years and always threw cattle with exceptionally quiet dispositions and it has carried on for generations. Cartel’s great great grand dam “Lois” was also the main donor cow for Richmond Farms. This is an absolutely stellar cow family going back several generations and any progeny will keep rising to the top in anyone’s herd. Now Cartel’s sire, Creed is no slouch either! We bred Reputation’s dam, WLLS 54C to Creed and are highly anticipating 6 flush mates this calving season. We were so excited about that mating that we then flushed 54C to Cartel the very next round, giving us 11 embryos. Cartel is from the very first “Creed” calf crop, averaging over $26,000 which just shows that the consistency in the Creed calves is remarkable. Cartel caught our eye due to being attractive, smooth made, large framed and long like a freight train. He also settled 92% of his breeding group in the first heat and maintained incredible condition while doing so. Anchor D will not be selling any “Creed” semen this year so this is an exclusive opportunity. We will sell 3 packages of 5 straws with the purchaser given the opportunity to purchase an additional 5 at a $50/ straw discount from the original purchase price.
