With yet another successful spring bull sale season, and a tremendous commercial run in the books we look to gear up for the fall run again. We are just starting to see yearlings hit the sale rings, and are certainly doing well. One of the extremely bright spots all year has been the incredible demand for cull cows and bulls, and we have certainly seen many producers’ cash in. All signs indicate a steady calf market, so I see nothing but positive on the horizon. We are very excited to welcome you to the 2017 edition of “Pasture Treasures”. We are extremely pleased with the group of females that we offer this year. Our own portion of the sale consists of 40 Elite bred heifers right from the heart of our program, this is ½ of our home grown heifers that we offer for sale, so you can be certain there are a group of super stars in this offering that are difficult to part with. Our guest consignors have been tremendous to work with and have really embraced the concept of bringing the best. They have dug in deep into their programs, and although their numbers may not be high, the quality will be exceptional. Please join us Friday, October 13. Viewing of cattle can be done anytime sale day, with supper planned for 5:30 and sale time at 7:00. Even though we don’t have a band for this year’s event, be sure to stick around afterwards for a visit with neighbors, friends and fellow breeders. Anyone wishing to bring their campers is very welcome to do so, or grab a room in town. We hope to see you there. See you there.

We start this year’s sale offering with “Delouise”, a long spined high performance “Mr. Gibbs” daughter that is very feminine and attractive. She will be a phenomenal producing female that traces back to the famous “Franchesca” cow family. Her dam is a very productive female we purchased from Vaughn Gibbons, and has been extremely reliable. The “Mr. Gibbs” daughters we have in production are flawless, and have beautiful udders, and the incredible dispositions that we have come to expect from his offspring. “Mr. Gibbs” is not a one trick pony; as he has produced the high selling female for us 2 years ago, selling to Beechinor Bros, as well as one of the highest averaging sire groups in the bull sale. This will be a great cow, and the mating to “Barbossa” will be a slam dunk. Exposed to FGAF Barbossa 707X -P725835- March 25 to May 26. Observed bred April 3, ultra sound safe due January 13, 2018.

“Dharma” is one of this years’ sale features for sure. She almost missed the sale by being one of the final picks for the kids to be in 4-H but they opted to go with their own heifers, where they ended up Champion & Reserve Champion in the club, so I guess it all worked out okay. It was a no brainer that “Dharma” had to be in the sale. She has been a favorite right from birth, and has all the bells & whistles. Her dam is a super “Kaptian” cow that came from Prospect Hill. I promise if this cow doesn’t leave an impression this year with this daughter she will next year for sure when her Polled “French Attack” daughter hits the sale ring. An absolute favorite that will leave a big hole in our replacement pen. The breeding to “Barbossa” really ups the ante as well. This is as deep as we can dig to bring you the best. This will be the youngest heifer for us in this year’s sale, but certainly is a powerhouse that deserves to be here. A very attractive, broody, dark red, heavily pigmented female that will be very productive. Her dam is one of only a few “Samurai” daughters we had, and was very royally bred. This is a star studded pedigree, and even though she is a bit younger, she will be highly productive, extremely sound, and should have the longevity to last a life time. Very solid heifer. “Chloe” is a heifer we really admire. This will be the first set of “Entourage” daughters to sell for us, and they are all really long bodied, performance females that will have flawless udders, great feet and legs, and nice dispositions. We were fortunate enough to purchase “Entourage” back as a proven mature bull, and the daughters that are in production are spectacular. In fact Rod has stated to me more than once he may have very well been the best bull he ever owned, thanks again for the opportunity to purchase him back Rod & Karen. “Chloe” is a tough one to part with, an impeccable pedigree. We purchased the dam of “Cassandra” from Maxwell Simmentals. I have been very impressed with the progeny from “Chesapeake” so this cow was a nice addition to our program. “Cassandra” is a dark red female, with the same heavy pigmentation as her dam, right down to her dark hooves. She appears to be developing a beautiful udder, and will be a female in my mind that should really be easy to mate with a large variety of bulls. Just a real honest brood cow in the making here, and the breeding to “Barbossa” will be very complimentary. Exposed to FGAF Barbossa 707X -P725835- March 25 to May 26. “Daffodil” is one that I had a bit of a hard time putting in the sale. She is going to be an outstanding very productive cow that will last forever, lots of longevity here. She is a granddaughter of our great old “Hera” cow who we flushed until 18 years of age. Her dam “Chateau” is no spring chicken herself so hard to say how many more years are left for her, and unfortunately the heifer calf she has at side this year sustained a leg injury so will not make the keeper pen. This may very well be one of the last chances to get a female from this super productive old cow. She is a beautiful female that has always looked the part. This will be a great cow. “Sonya” is the little sister to “Adley” last years second high seller, going to Silver Lake Farms, MB. Another super long bodied “Entourage” daughter that looks to be developing a flawless udder, and will have no end of performance. The closer we get to sale day the more people will appreciate her. This heifer is aging like fine wine and will just continue to get that much stronger every day. She too is a female that will be super easy to breed to such a huge variety of bulls. “Devra” was one of the standout calves all last spring. This is a beautiful female that is picture perfect. Her dam is a cow we purchased from Cross Road Farms, and supplies a very outcrossed pedigree for us. This cow produced one of my favorite heifers in last year’s sale who was also lot #8 and went to our good friends at Ferme Gagnon in Quebec. “Devra” much like her dam will have an impeccable udder, tremendous length, very clean fronted, and extremely feminine. “Devyn” is another heifer I struggled with putting in the sale. She is the only polled “Entourage” daughter we have, from a tremendous “Viper” daughter who traces back to “Romulus”. Yes she has momma cow stamped all over her. She had bred first service, but then came back at 60 days. I realize she may be bred a bit late for some, but trust me do not overlook this young female because of that. “Devyn” will be a polled powerhouse, with tremendous capacity and muscle shape. “Dalis & Dallas” are full siblings by blood. They are off of twin cows of Mackenzie’s that are as bomb proof of cows you will find. Moderate framed, easy fleshing perfect feet, legs, and udders, and great dispositions. This will be an extremely honest pair of bred heifers that will be very low maintenance hard working females. They will be cows that you can throw power at, and still moderate birth weight, and bring in an extremely marketable calf. I’m pretty certain if Mackenzie wasn’t off to college this fall one or both may not have been in the sale. Very solid choice.

This particular heifer comes from one of my favorite “Barbossa” daughters. She has a knockout bull calf at side this year, and stems back to the great “Star Gazer” cow family. The cross of “Epic & Barbossa” has worked well for us, and now the third member of that mix is “Precision”. This is his first set of calves for us, but at this point it appears he will add a little more punch into that already nice blend, while still keeping those birth weights in check. “Charlotte” won’t be the high seller, but will be a very hard working reliable female for many, many years. Perhaps one you will slightly overlook at first, but come to admire more every day. Her dam is a gorgeous cow we purchased as a bred heifer from Ralph Burns. “Antonius, Baltimore, Mitzi” sure a recipe for cow power. “Donna Rae” is a little plainer colored female that will be as productive as they come. Her dam was a great producer for us, creating both strong males and females. The “Casey’s Majesty” cows always work, adding lots of growth, ampule milk, and superior dispositions. We have a couple sisters to this female in our herd, and they are tough to fault, but the greatest asset of this old cow was the bulls she could produce. “Dena” is a twin, and we are retaining her full sister for our own program. Her dam is a cow that out produces herself, and raises a calf that stands at or near the front of the pen each year. She is a cow that always moderates birth weight, and supplies us with explosive growth, a true curve bender. As I mentioned on the other “Intuition” daughter in this years sale his daughters in production are spectacular. Being raised as a twin “Dena” is perhaps at a bit of a disadvantage on paper performance wise, but I am certain she will produce right with the best. Please note we didn’t have an actual observed breeding date but feel very confident with the ultra sound of being very close to the due date listed. Here is my free advice for this years sale, do not be fooled by color. “Delight” is without question one of the top heifers in this years sale. A big powerful angular heifer with an idea udder, and tons of capacity. Her dam is a female we sold several years ago to CDR Simmentals, and we were given the opportunity to purchase her back when they sold their cows. She does not miss!! “Delight” reminds me of a typical “Rogar” daughter, which of course her grandmother “Kananaskis” traces back to. If she produces half as good she will be fabulous. For what it’s worth this is my personal favorite heifer. Exposed to FGAF Barbossa 707X - P725835- March 25 to May 26. Observed bred March 30, ultra sound safe, due January 9, 2018.

A very attractive dark red “Windsurfer” daughter. Her dam is a picture perfect “Razzmatazz” cow that is everything you want. This heifer has lots of length, hair and a broad top. She will no doubt be a great bull producer, and her females will have lots of substance and power as well, with idea shaped udders. I think the mating to “Barbossa” will be spectacular, as she will add just a bit more power. Every year some of the easiest bull calves we have to market have been the “Barbossa’s” and the daughters we have in production are some of the best. This mating alone may be the incentive to purchase an already super female. Exposed to FGAF Barbossa 707X - P725835- March 25 to May 26. What can we say about “Barbossa” that hasn’t already been said. He has been such a valuable breeding piece for our program. He continues to prove his value to us more and more each day as his daughters in production now are really reaching their potential, his sons continue to be highly sought after in the bull sale, and his calving ease is unmatched. He has surpassed our expectations of him, and we realize how difficult he is going to be to replace. As we have never put his semen on the market the only way to source his genetics is through progeny or services. He has been used exclusively in the heifer pen with the exception of his first year. We will see what next spring brings, but due to his age this might be the last group of sale heifers carrying his service as I really want to give him a group of power cows to build some more cows for ourselves. If you haven’t dipped into the “Barbossa” gene pool, you may want to dive in now.

“Claire” is one of four “Barbossa” daughters we will offer this year. These will be females that will moderate birth weight, and supply ampule growth and maximize marketability through their offspring. “Claire” comes from a top end cow family that you will have noticed several times through this years sale catalogue. Keep in mind all the “Barbossa” daughters are from first calvers so there is more performance there than what truly meets the eye. “Claire” is in a polled package, and will be a female you will want to breed to a power bull to get that optimum calf. I weakened. I was not going to sell any “Maximus” daughters this year, as this is the final group of them. However I felt it wasn’t fair not to have at least one, as this bull did so much for us. It would be safe to say he has been our favorite bull to date, as he has such a small cull rate, and his calves are so marketable. I chose “Denise” to be the representative as this is such a useful pedigree. It’s hard to go wrong with any direction you choose to breed her. Her full sister sold in last years sale to XRC Simmentals. “Denise” will offer lots of power, and will be a bull producing machine in my mind. The interesting part of the “Maximus” calves is there is never one standout in his group; they are just so consistent and good. This will be a great female for someone, a very difficult decision for us to part with her. Exposed to Virginia Precision 16C - 1135400- March 25 to May 26. What a great addition into our bull battery “Precision” has been. This was his first calf crop for us so we used him on both cows and heifers, with a very large variety to get a scope on his capabilities. The calves look great, and his calving ease appears to be extremely good, and no lack of performance either. He still did get a few cows this spring but the vast majority of his pen was heifers, and perhaps next year he will be the main cog in the heifer pen, as we are hoping to utilize “Barbossa” on a select group of cows. Big shoes to fill following up “Barbossa” but I think that endorses the confidence I have in this great young herd sire. Just under 1/2 of the Fullblood sale heifers will carry his service. We are very certain you will be pleased with the results.

We have had a very limited number of these “Valor” calves, and “Cinda” will be the lone entry from him. Raw power from the top side of the pedigree combined with a bit more calving ease and refinement from the bottom side via the “Herlide” cow family. This is a well-blended heifer that showcases the best traits from both sides. As you can already see the breeding on the fullblood heifers is very simple being bred to one of two very proven calving ease sires. This is a mating I would probably do over again as a mature cow; I really think this is going to click. Nice heifer with a great cow family that will be a great one herself. “Flush Mates” To complete our Fullblood section we bring you a pair of flush mates from “Saphire” who has become our #1 Donor cow. “Debra & Delilah” will be moderate framed, super stout, heavily pigmented pair of females that will work with a huge cross section of bulls, be it Fullblood, red or black. As a second calver “Saphire” raised the $23,000 “Venom” bull his walking mate, who brought the same amount was “Viper”. It seemed like a fairly logical choice to breed “Saphire to Viper” and the bull calves sold thus far have been very well received. The original plan was to sell one and retain the other, but we do have a few left in the tank, and beings they are mated to two different service sires we felt offering both would be the right thing to do. Either way you won’t go wrong or double down and own the pair.

The 2016 spring bull sale season was without question an exciting one for us. Not only did we have a fabulous sale, but we were very fortunate to have added some outstanding new bulls into our program. “French Attack” was the crown jewel for us, and there is a huge amount of anticipation waiting for that first calf crop to hit the ground. Like every new bull he got a fairly broad cross section of cows to see where he fits. Let’s just say there is ZERO disappointment in what he can do. This power bull can stamp calves for sure. Regardless of bulls or heifer calves, they have a look about them that is undeniably good. We sold 2 packages of “French Attack” semen in last years sale, and after all the calls we have received we have decided to sell 2 more packages of 5 straws this year. This will be the only semen marketed on him for the 2018 breeding season. The buyer will be given the option to take an additional 5 per lot at a $50/ straw discount from the purchase price of the original lot. Semen is exportable - stored at Alta Genetics

She is a very typical “Wolfman” daughter, moderate, easy fleshing, broad topped, super rib shape, loads of hair, with an exceptional disposition. If you would have asked me this spring if “Dusty” was going to be in the sale I would have likely told you probably not. She comes from one of the top red cows that I would really like to develop a cow family around. The same reason I wanted to keep her is the same reason I thought she should be in the sale. This will be an exceptional cow. A female that I think you will appreciate more with time, and as a mature female she will blow you away. Probably the sale sleeper in the red division for us be sure to track her down. Exposed to Double Bar D Admiral 446D -PG1176505- March 25 to May 26. A star studded pedigree here. “Cranna” is a black “Super Duty” boasting the likes of “Superior & Temptation” going back to our Black donor cow “Painted Smile”. She was our only black “Super Duty” calf so a bit unique for sure. The black heifers are the only group we AI’d, and the mating to “Cobra” should be spectacular. She certainly stood out as a baby, and I think pedigree alone she has an awful lot to offer. AI’d to NCB Cobra 47Y -BPG755730- April 7. Exposed Double Bar D Admiral 446D -PG1176505- April 30 to May 26. Ultra sound safe to AI, due January 17, 2018.

We are really excited to have added “Admiral” into our herd bull battery. We purchased him this spring from Double Bar D, where he was their 2nd high selling red purebred bull. He was a bull that just grew on me the more I analyzed him. He is a very soft made bull, with great length, lots of hip and good rib shape. He has an excellent hair coat a very solid foot and a great disposition. We used him on all of our red purebred heifers, and he worked clean up on the black heifers after AI. He has an extremely nice dam, and his sire is no stranger to the breed. We look for “Admiral” to do a much bigger job for us next year, and are very anxious to see his first calf crop hit the ground.

We unfortunately didn’t see “Classic” come around in the AI pen, so she missed the first cycle however stuck to her very first breeding. Her full sister sold in last years sale to Dennis & Shelly Ericson, and is a beautiful female. We also have another full sister for ourselves, and sold a 1/2 sister to McBeys, all of which have been Black Baldies. Not too much guess work here, as this will be a power female that will moderate birth weights and provide growth length and frame. Exposed to Double Bar D Admiral 446D- April 30 to May 26. “Devita” is from one of our best black cows, and a very strong cow family. This cow is a producer. As a first calver she raised “Black Beard” who is a herd bull for Blushrose Simmentals, SK., followed by an exceptional bred heifer that sold to Sara Van Sickle. Garren was a bit torn on selling “Devita” but he wants to change up a few genetics and with her mother bred to “Ballistics” he decided to part with her. “Devita” is a very long bodied, stylish “Olympian” daughter. She didn’t settle to her AI so is bred to her first exposure to “Admiral”. This will be a great cross, and she will be one tremendous brood cow. Here is a different twist on pedigree. We used “Legacy” on heifers, as he added tremendous calving ease, but also adds a strong maternal component. “Dee Dee” comes from the “Licorice” cow family that is loaded with power, a full sister to her dam sells as Lot 33. This is a very well blended female that is a bit smaller than the other black heifers, but keep in mind from a first calver. I feel as though this female will have a strong future, a unique pedigree, and the mating to “Cobra” is just icing on the cake. AI’d to NCB Cobra 47Y -BPG755730- March 26. We certainly tried to add some diversity into our offering, as you can see all 5 black heifers are from different sires. “Debbie” is a favorite for sure. A big deep sided female that comes from a rock star dam. This is just a young female we purchased from Parkhill Ranches from this very sale. She raised a very solid female as a first calver that sold in last years sale, and quite likely has our best black bull calf at side this year by “Westcott”. Trust me if you don’t see him sale day, you will certainly see him in some upcoming bull sale ads. “Debbie” is bred back to “Cobra” who I am a huge fan of. I really appreciate the consistency he sires, and how useful his offspring are, combined with very respectable calving ease. This is a very good heifer mated the right way. Sophie is a very flashy polled heifer that we are happy to bring to this great event for your appraisal. She is backed by a good young polled cow we bought out of the Southern Alberta Round-Up from Vernon Properties. She is an ideal cow with a strong set of feet, legs and a near perfect udder. Sired by Hemisphere you can expect Sophie to mature into a moderate, thick strong uddered female that will produce the good ones. If you are looking for a polled heifer with a little different twist in pedigree Sophie should be on your list.

Ruby Delight comes to you from a strong first calving CMS Trademark daughter and the well known Bootlegger bull. Looking back in her pedigree you will notice she goes back to a fullblood cow that so happens to be one of our best! Ruby Delight is a heifer that you can throw a halter on and take on the show road or take her home and let her crank out the herd bulls, whatever you decide she will get the job done.

Guest Consignor - Parkhill Ranch Les brings us a very solid made pair of females. They are both sired by “Red Edge” who makes incredible cows. Some old time breeding on the bottom side of the pedigree on both of these heifers. “Devon” is from a “Dr. Pepper” cow, with a shot of “Antonius” for good measure. “Jamie” is from a “Tomcat” cow that is directly off of one of Les’ foundation Fleckvieh cows “Finkle”. Both these heifers have momma cow written all over them, and I can promise you the Parkhill cattle are no nonsense low maintenance individuals.
