On behalf of everyone at MRL, we would like to welcome you to the Ranch, March 2, for our 30th Anniversary Bull Sale.

A few milestones this year as this will be our 30th consecutive bull sale on our own, it’s actually been over 50 years selling Simmental bulls in early years privately out of the yard and then in Border 9, prelude to spring and Alameda bull sales. I can remember our first sale like yesterday and sure doesn’t seem that long ago. Over the past 30 years our passion and total dedication has been focused on what you see in our offering for the 2024 lineup. It seems everything we do 365 days a year revolves around our bull sale. For over 50 years we have built cow families, sourced the top bulls in the industry and bred cattle that worked under ranch conditions for commercial cattlemen. Another milestone for 2024 is our 20th offering of Angus bulls in our sale.

Again, it doesn’t seem that long ago and we have worked equally as hard in the Angus business with the same simple philosophy.

The strength of our offering is and always has been our factory or cowherd. 50 years in the making, 800 head strong in a competitive environment with 2 breed lines. We have multiplied our most productive cow families over the years and it is amazing how many of the bulls derive from only a handful of our most elite cow families that have risen to the top through production merit under ranch conditions.

Probably the biggest reason we have had success in raising bulls that work within the industry, is our program is in tune with that of our commercial customers. We run a bunch of cows in two different calving environments: almost 400 calving in Jan/Feb, and 350 calving on grass in May. We background and finish our steers, we breed and develop over 250 replacement females annually. It’s simple, genetics that don’t work for us under our ranch conditions, won’t work for you. The genetics offered in our bull lineup for 2024 are the cream of the crop and the result of almost 50 years of progression.

Our 2024 lineup of bulls speak for themselves and in fact over the past 5 decades the quality of the cattle that carry the MRL tattoo is what has escalated our program to what it is today. We won’t pretend to be superior salesmen but rather pride ourselves in developing a product that is dependable, proven and profitable for our customers and stand behind it.

Each and every category in our diverse offering this year we feel is as good as it has ever been. Exciting new sire groups in each division, fresh genetics for our repeat customers that exclusively source their bulls here at MRL and sire groups that are highly proven to work for commercial cattlemen. The yearling bulls are so consistent from front to back in each pen. The bull calves were weaned almost 3 weeks earlier than usual off extremely dry pastures as may reflect in their actual ww. Don’t forget the big pen of Coming 2’s. This is a true 2 year old program, born on grass in May/June and never offered for sale until now. They are the best of the best in this calving group as in the yearlings. Not held over bulls that didn’t quite keep up in the early calving interval.

Only the very best bulls in each calving interval make the sale pens.

Finally and most importantly we would like to, after 30 sales, take the time to once again thank our loyal customer base that source their herdbulls year in and year out here at MRL. Quite honestly, your continuous support has had a great influence on our progression of what you see in this catalogue.

Your confidence in our program allows us to source the best genetics in the world and continue to improve our product. It is gratifying that many of the outfits that bought bulls in our first sale will participate in our 30th and in fact have 3rd generations that will be in the seats sale day that bought bulls from Dad 50 years ago. Our commercial customer base spans Canada -Wide from coast to coast and almost 1/3 of the bulls sell to customers south of the 49th spanning several states. We are truly humbled to supply bulls annually to some of the absolute top commercial cowherds in North America. We guarantee to provide you with a sound breeding bull capable of passing a semen test by a licensed vet within 14 months of age. All bulls over 12 months of age will be semen tested as satisfactory by Sale Day. Should any MRL bull fail to be a satisfactory breeder, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value and quality or a credit will be given towards the purchase of another MRL bull. We carry a good supply of backup bulls and will make sure you have bull power to get your cows bred. If you have a problem, notify us immediately, because we’re not happy until you are satified with your MRL bull.

Purchasing a herd bull is very important. Every cattleman is always searching for bull power to improve certain traits in their cow herd. It can be a frustrating and time consuming task. We would be pleased to assist you in identifying a bull or bulls suited to strengthen your program. SIGHT UNSEEN PROGRAM

We would love to have you join us for our annual Bull Sale at the ranch. If you can not, this program has worked well for many busy cattlemen unable to make it to our sale. With families and a bunch of cows ourselves, we realize that with hockey, 4-H, chores, frozen water bowls, cows calving and everything else it is sometimes hard to be everywhere you want to be on certain days.

Each and every year we sell more bulls through this program from clean across the country to next door neighbors. The program is simple. Call us in advance (preferably a week or so) before the sale to discuss your cowherd, breeding objectives and herd bull requirements. From what we gather from talking to you about your program, we can fit you with a herdsire or herd sires with in your price ranges and suited to your needs without you leaving home. The bulls will be personally hand picked by Lee, Dave or Jim. We are a family run operation so the same person helping you pick your bull is the same person who calves, breeds, feeds and lives with these herd bull prospects and their mothers year around. We know our cowherd very well and the genetics strength of each bull on offer. Just the same as you know yours. Almost 50 years in the bull business we have gained a level of trust and integrity with our customers and have had repeat customers buy their bulls here for years and not been to a sale yet. We will get you the best bull for your program as reasonably priced as we can - you have our word on that.

Easy fleshing, structurally sound beef cattle have always been #1 at MRL. Over 50 years of stacking the most elite cow families that rise to the top on production merit under ranch conditions. *Customer Care “Large enough to serve you - Small enough to know you” (borrowed this from another outfit that sells alot of bulls and its the absolute truth). Any given day of the year there are over 300 bulls at the ranch. Herdbulls, spare bulls, sale bulls and bulls being developed. Rest assured if you run into trouble we will have you covered. Free delivery to central points across Western Canada and the Northern States. Cost sharing to the East and Southern States. For those busy cattlemen unable to make it sale day, we offer a sight unseen buyers program and pre- selection program, as well as several sale consultants to leave an order with and internet bidding with both DLMS and DV Acution. *Quality Not Quantity. Our operation consists of over 700 working females. The 180 bulls on offer have been selected from 350 bull calves, therefore we can be very strict when selecting our offering. The toughest thing about our bull sale will be making up the sale order. Pens full of uniform 1⁄2 and 3⁄4 brothers. * Bull Development. These bulls have been developed on a high roughage TOTAL TMR ration with consultation from Bulls Eye Feeds. Terms - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. We reserve the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for his purchase, we reserve full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released.

Disputes - Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decisionin such matter is final.

Purchaser’s Risk - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. We strongly recommend the purchaser insure their purchase(s) at time of purchase.

Announcements - Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

Certificate of Registry - A registration/recordation certificate issued by the Canadian Simmental Association.Canadian Angus Association and duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer of each animal after settlement has been made. It is the responsibility of the buyer to determine the acceptance of this certificate in any other association.

Health - All bulls are under the total MRL Herd Health Program. All received Exress 5 Program, Dextomax, Vitamin and all will carry a satisfactory semen evaluation.

MRL will look after health tests for cattle purchased by U.S. customers.

Our red pen of bulls last year drew a lot of attention and I described them as the most dominant pen of red bulls we have ever offered for sale. I believe our 2024 lineup has set the bar even another notch higher. Exciting new sire groups like WTL, Loyalty, Centrium, Rip Zone offer new genetics for our repeat customers that buy their herdbulls exclusively here at MRL year after year and highly proven sires that have sired our most elite top selling bulls the past couple years such as MRL Playmaker, Patriot, Southern Comfort and one of the top herdbulls even out of the legendary MRL Red Whiskey. The Walk the Line sire group is impressive to say the least backed up by our most elite cow families here at MRL and have turned some heads early on from visitors to the pen. The first sons of the $200,000 LFE Loyalty are soggy, dark and led off by one of the top red blaze bulls we have offered. Exciting new sire groups by two top sires that sold through this very ring; MRL Centrium and MRL Rip Zone offer calving ease numbers, with big time quality and yet don’t sacrifice stoutness and muscle shape. The 4440B donor pictured below at 10 years old is one we would not trade for any other cow in the business. Just last year a $28,000 son to Lazy S,a $10,000 son to McKims. A full ET sister had the $28,000 Kodiak bull to Ag Land and other full Et sister 5412C raised the $50,000 high seller to Swan Lake. The grandam 477U is probably my all time favourite power cow with an array of progeny that will fill this entire page. Three brothers here that will be elite breeding pieces in any program. Not sure we have ever offered a sire group with as many big time true herdbulls in it as this WTL group for 2024. This one we think is as good as any we have ever raised. The MRLA Respect bull drew a ton of attention when he sold by some of the top breeding outfits in North America both sides of the 49th. This is a good dude. Phenotypically he is as good as there is in the pen, he is hard to find a hole in. A bull that we think is really balanced and has that herdbull head and charisma.
