On behalf of the entire crew here at MRL, we would like to welcome you to evaluate our 2021 lineup of herdbulls to be auctioned Saturday, March 6th at 1:00 pm.

The world is certainly in a different state than it was a year ago as I penned the welcome to our sale. One thing is for certain, the Ag industry has certainly proven to be an essential service and the backbone to the livelihood of our nation. For anyone reading this in the cow business, your operation is no different than ours as we pull our boots on every morning and go to work and do whatever it takes to run our business.

Our business, as you know, is the bull business and the majority of our year’s income will happen March 6th, here at the ranch. Although things will be a tick different for 2021, as we follow Covid guidelines in place, we will still go ahead with a live auction with limited capacity. That being said, buyers will still be welcome sale day, with adequate social distancing in our large sale arena. We will be providing 2 internet services; both DLMS and DV Auction will be broadcasting live with real time internet bidding and once again, we have several professional sales consultants on staff to help with appraisals and bidding. Our sight program has worked well for many over the years and will certainly be available again wit 100% satisfaction- call Lee or Dave. It is times like this we are fortunate to be in the business a long time and have a great cliental of repeat bull customers that participate year in and year out. Our program is very familiar to you and your program and breeding objectives are very familiar to us which will certainly help this year in getting you the right herdbulls for your operation.

Lean on us this year as we are here to help, and we certainly encourage and welcome visits to the ranch to view the bulls prior to sale day as always. We have always had great support from our friends south of the 49th and supply bulls annually to some great commercial cattle outfits. Although there may be travel restrictions crossing the border, as for getting you your bulls, there is no problem at all and as always, we will get testing done and can meet you at port with bulls or get them dropped at central points in North Dakota. To our great Canadian customers which spans across 8 provinces each year, we will once again get your bulls to central points near your ranch in western Canada and cost share to the eastern provinces. We are truly humbled to have many of the top commercial outfits in North America source their herdbulls right here at MRL. As for the bull lineup, it is bigger and better than ever. Top to bottom depth in each and every division is stronger than it has ever been before. Our cowherd has always been the strength of our program and we continue to build. Upon assembling the top bulls to make the pen and start the catalogue, it is amazing how the majority of the bulls go back to a handful of cow families in each division. These cow families have earned their way to the top, simply on their superior production merit and are multiplied through ET production. For years now we implant over 100 embryos each year in both calving interval and are ruthless at culling the bottom end. This has shaped our cowherd into the productive factory they have become. Each and every bull in the sale is backed by productive, highly proven genetics that perform under ranch conditions.

Probably the biggest reason we have had success in raising bulls that work within the industry, is our program is in tune with that of our commercial customers. We run a bunch of cows in two different calving environments: over 400 calving in Jan/Feb, and 350 calving on grass in May. We background and finish our steers, we breed and develop over 250 replacement females annually. It’s simple, genetics that don’t work for us under our ranch conditions, won’t work for you. The genetics offered in our bull lineup for 2021 are the cream of the crop and the result of almost 50 years of progression.

We guarantee to provide you with a sound breeding bull capable of passing a semen test by a licensed vet within 14 months of age. All bulls over 12 months of age will be semen tested as satisfactory by Sale Day. Should any MRL bull fail to be a satisfactory breeder, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value and quality or a credit will be given towards the purchase of another MRL bull. We carry a good supply of backup bulls and will make sure you have bull power to get your cows bred. If you have a problem, notify us immediately, because we’re not happy until you are satified with your MRL bull.

SIGHT UNSEEN PROGRAM

We would love to have you join us for our annual Bull Sale at the ranch. If you can not, this program has worked well for many busy cattlemen unable to make it to our sale. With families and a bunch of cows ourselves, we realize that with hockey, 4-H, chores, frozen water bowls, cows calving and everything else it is sometimes hard to be everywhere you want to be on certain days.

Each and every year we sell more bulls through this program from clean across the country to next door neighbors. The program is simple. Call us in advance (preferably a week or so) before the sale to discuss your cowherd, breeding objectives and herd bull requirements. From what we gather from talking to you about your program, we can fit you with a herdsire or herd sires with in your price ranges and suited to your needs without you leaving home. The bulls will be personally hand picked by Lee, Dave or Jim. We are a family run operation so the same person helping you pick your bull is the same person who calves, breeds, feeds and lives with these herd bull prospects and their mothers year around. We know our cowherd very well and the genetics strength of each bull on offer. Just the same as you know yours. Almost 50 years in the bull business we have gained a level of trust and integrity with our customers and have had repeat customers buy their bulls here for years and not been to a sale yet. We will get you the best bull for your program as reasonably priced as we can - you have our word on that.

* Almost 50 years in the bull business. Almost 50 years we have been committed to and stuck to producing Simmental seed stock which Will work well under your commercial conditions. Easy fleshing, structurally sound beef cattle have always been #1 at MRL. *Customer Care. We will make sure you have a bull to breed your cows to. If you run into trouble, give us a call. We will have several insurance bulls at the ranch at all times and will get you a replacement bull as soon as you need one. We also have post sale delivery on offer. For those busy cattlemen unable to make it sale day, we offer a sight unseen buyers program and pre- selection program, as well as several sale consultants to leave an order with. *Quality Not Quantity. Our operation consists of over 700 working females. The 180 bulls on offer have been selected from 350 bull calves, therefore we can be very strict when selecting our offering. The toughest thing about our bull sale will be making up the sale order. Pens full of uniform 1⁄2 and 3⁄4 brothers. * Bull Development. These bulls have been developed on a high roughage, silage, grain and ground straw/hay ration plus minerals. Our objective is to offer you sound breeding bulls ready to go to work and stay working for years to come. “Stuffing” is for the “Christmas Turkey” not “breeding bulls”. Terms - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. We reserve the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for his purchase, we reserve full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released.

Disputes - Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decisionin such matter is final.

Purchaser’s Risk - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. We strongly recommend the purchaser insure their purchase(s) at time of purchase.

Announcements - Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

Certificate of Registry - A registration/recordation certificate issued by the Canadian Simmental Association.Canadian Angus Association and duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer of each animal after settlement has been made. It is the responsibility of the buyer to determine the acceptance of this certificate in any other association.

This is a flat out rip and for sure one of the top bulls in this powerful red pen. It is no accident as you look through this sire group of Tycoon sons for 2021 and his dam is an incredible 91Y daughter we flushed last spring. This powerhouse is not her first herdbull and won’t be her last. Well here’s the full brother to the most admired black bull in last years sale MRL Untouchable who topped the black division at $47,500 to one of the most progressive breeding programs in the industry, Wilson Stock Farms. A herdbull here we’re pretty excited about and plan to use here at MRL in our AI program this spring. His sire is one of the most intriguing herdbulls we have sold to date and leadoff bull in our 2019 bull sale going to Franklin Livestock/Wakope Enterprises. We have been anxiously awaiting to get his outcross genetics working in our program. This will be his lead off son for 2021.

Phenotypically he has that same wow factor his sire had. Structurally flawless, big topped, stout made and that presence in the pen that sets the great ones apart. Add to all this, that cool baldy look and EPD #’s that rank him in the top end of the breed in 12 of 14 traits. His young dam is just getting started and grandam is a beautiful uddered, broody fullblood cow that raised herdbulls to top operations including Glen Aldentaler, SD, Wilson Colony, AB, and Bill Simpson, MB. Our group of Angus bulls is for sure the most impressive to date. In the red yearling division, to lead the charge, will be the $90,000 MRLA Red Resource sons that caused quite a stir in the industry with his first set of sons last spring. They just add that extra dimension, incredible foot quality and his first daughters calving are exceptional, powerful and beautiful uddered. If you thought last year’s group was impressive, wait until you see the bunch for 2021 and mothered by our most elite cow families. On the calving ease side will be sons by the phenomenal U2 Retrospect bull that sired the incredible $130,000 MRLA Respect bull last year (you gotta see the calves on the ground, they are impressive to say the least). The Retrospect sons are sleep all night calving ease bulls, oozing with Angus character and shape and loaded with maternal prowess. Our group of black hided bulls is the largest to date with sons by Red Resource and Retrospect as well as SAV Resource and Bar EL Natural Law, two of the most respected bulls in the Angus breed today.

In the 2 year old division, black and red bulls sired by the home raised impressive MRLA 83D sire that we retained for our own use. A black red carrier son of SAV Resource and a tremendous Mulberry cow. This group is impressive with curve bender #’s. Small birth and frame and length with explosive growth and led off by the Lot 164 bull that has garnered some attention already. Our Angus cowherd is one we are extremely proud of. The Resource sons drew some attention last spring with his first calf crop not only here at MRL with 3 sons over $10,000 with two to Pieper Red Angus top breeding program in Nebraska and another to long time repeat customer and friend Darren Johnson in North Dakota but also a $130,000 son at U2 and $90,000 son at SSS Angus. The lead off bull here in the Coming 2’s and deservedly so as he has already garnered a fair bit of attention in the pen. This sire group by the outcross MRLA 83D sire is an impressive group but this guy flat out stands out as the stud in the pen and has all along. Phenotypically he is hard to fault: powerfully constructed, athletic, on the move and just has that incredible Angus character and herdbull presence and skull. On paper he is pretty cool with SAV Resource, Mulberry and the Queen cow family back to New Trend on the top, and none other than a 61X daughter back to the Lakota 129M cow family that raised a feature female going to Darren Van Curren at Sunberry Valley Angus and top bulls to Goudy Prairie Acres and Little Rainbow Ranch. If you’ve followed our program I don’t have to elate to the strength of our 61X females and his dam, the 580U cow probably still my favourite cow of all time. He ranks above average for bw & ce and top 5% ww & yw on his EPD profile.
