This past year has again been profitable for cattlemen and experts say 2016 will be the first year of the rebuild and expansion of the national cowherd which historically lasts for 5-7 years. There are definitely profitable years ahead and maybe more so than ever on these Simmental/Angus cross females which have proven to be the most sought after mother cows in the business. If your cattle are sired by top end herdbulls with a prefix synonymous with a foundation for elite genetics, consistency and a respected cowherd will make them even more valuable and marketable.

To start I would like to thank our customers for your support over the past 45 years. Your confidence in our breeding program has allowed us to expand and source the elite genetics responsible for the 2016 lineup of herdsires. We are honoured to have many of the top commercial cattle operations in North America, near and far, and both sides of the 49th parallel source their herdbulls at MRL year after year. Building a cowherd does not happen overnight. For 45 years we have had total commitment to strengthening our program. We guarantee to provide you with a sound breeding bull capable of passing a semen test by a licensed vet within 14 months of age. All bulls over 12 months of age will be semen tested as satisfactory by Sale Day. Should any MRL bull fail to be a satisfactory breeder, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value and quality or a credit will be given towards the purchase of another MRL bull. No refunds. We carry a good supply of backup bulls and will make sure you have bull power to get your cows bred. If you have a problem, notify us immediately, because we’re not happy until you are satified with your MRL bull.

Sight Unseen Program

We would love to have you join us for our annual Bull Sale at the ranch. If you can not, this program has worked well for many busy cattlemen unable to make it to our sale. With families and a bunch of cows ourselves, we realize that with hockey, 4-H, chores, frozen water bowls, cows calving and everything else it is sometimes hard to be everywhere you want to be on certain days.

Each and every year we sell more bulls through this program from clean across the country to next door neighbors. The program is simple. Call us in advance (preferably a week or so) before the sale to discuss your cowherd, breeding objectives and herd bull requirements. From what we gather from talking to you about your program, we can fit you with a herdsire or herd sires with in your price ranges and suited to your needs without you leaving home. The bulls will be personally hand picked by Lee, Dave or Jim. We are a family run operation so the same person helping you pick your bull is the same person who calves, breeds, feeds and lives with these herd bull prospects and their mothers year around. We know our cowherd very well and the genetics strength of each bull on offer. Just the same as you know yours. Almost 40 years in the bull business we have gained a level of trust and integrity with our customers and have had repeat customers buy their bulls here for years and not been to a sale yet. We will get you the best bull for your program as reasonably priced as we can - you have our word on that.

Here are a few details about our operation and why we think an MRL herd sire may work for you.

* Over 40 years in the bull business. Over 40 years we have been committed to and stuck to producing Simmental seed stock which Will work well under your commercial conditions. Easy fleshing, structurally sound beef cattle have always been #1 at MRL. *Customer Care. We will make sure you have a bull to breed your cows to. If you run into trouble, give us a call. We will have several insurance bulls at the ranch at all times and will get you a replacement bull as soon as you need one. We also have post sale delivery on offer. For those busy cattlemen unable to make it sale day, we offer a sight unseen buyers program and pre- selection program, as well as several sale consultants to leave an order with. *Quality Not Quantity. Our operation consists of over 600 working females. The 150 bulls on offer have been selected from 300 bull calves, therefore we can be very strict when selecting our offering. The toughest thing about our bull sale will be making up the sale order. Pens full of uniform 1⁄2 and 3⁄4 brothers. * Bull Development. These bulls have been developed on a high roughage, silage, grain and ground straw/hay ration plus minerals. Our objective is to offer you sound breeding bulls ready to go to work and stay working for years to come. “Stuffing” is for the “Christmas Turkey” not “breeding bulls”. All bulls are semen tested prior to the sale so there are no surprises after you buy your herd bull(s).

Terms - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. We reserve the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for his purchase, we reserve full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released.

Disputes - Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decisionin such matter is final.

Purchaser’s Risk - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. We strongly recommend the purchaser insure their purchase(s) at time of purchase.

Announcements - Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

Certificate of Registry - A registration/recordation certificate issued by the Canadian Simmental Association.Canadian Angus Association and duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer of each animal after settlement has been made. It is the responsibility of the buyer to determine the acceptance of this certificate in any other association.

2016 will mark the first major group of these spring born coming 2s, as we continue to transition half of our almost 700 cows to calve in May on grass. We will calve 250 cows in this program this spring. Same cows and genetics as our winter born calves.

We feel these bulls are ideally suited to our commercial customers needs For 45 years in the bull business, we have paid attention to our customers needs. With larger herds, less manpower and larger breeding fields, these bulls will excel. They are born and bred in an identical environment to many of our customers calves. This is a powerful group of red and black Simmental and red Angus sires that will cover some ground this spring. Customers will get the most “bang for your buck” on this group of bulls. We are serious about the program and will feature half of the sale bulls as coming 2s in the near future.

The Simmental sire groups are headlined by Black Baron, Red Western, 67X and Casino sons, all curve bender sires with low birth weights and above average performance. We have not been in the Angus seedstock business for as long as we have the Simmental business but as it doesn’t seem that long, 2016 will be the 12th year to offer Angus bulls in our event.
