BULL & REPLACEMENT HEIFER SALE

MARCH 13-14, 2022

welcome...

to the first annual McIntosh Ranch & Guest Bull Sale. I’d like to thank everyone who has showed interest in our program over the past years and who has continued to support our program year after year. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce McIntosh Ranch to everyone who is unfamiliar with us. McIntosh Ranch is a mixed livestock operation North of Winnipeg in the heart of the Interlake region where we run 50 Simmental and Black Angus Cows and 400 Rideau and Polled Dorset Ewes. Unfortunately due to the drought of 2021, we had to reduce our cow numbers down to 50 due to the feed shortage and record setting feed prices. However, we look forward to building our numbers up again in the years to come. This fall, my in-laws, Ray and Barb Airey, brought their cows and calves up to the Ranch, including an Angus bull calf who is featured in our sale. It is pretty safe to say without their help we wouldn’t be at the catalog stage for this sale. We look forward to growing this sale in conjunction with them in the years to come. The Interlake is pretty rough in terrain. When it comes to our summer pastures, lots of bush, swamps and rocks are what you see. Summer pastures are 100% native pasture with fall grazing on stubble until the snow flies. Our bull calves are weaned mid September and once weaned, they head back out to graze by the house until the snow flies. I am a firm believer that bulls need to be physically fit to go out and do their job. With that being said, our bulls are fed an oat based grain ration and a TMR dry hay mixture of 60%Alfalfa/ Tame Grass 40% Native Grass hay in their feeder. Our bulls walk to water every day. I’m very pleased to say we have been developing bulls this way for years and the customer feed back is phenomenal. 2021 is definitely a year to remember with the western drought that effected most everyone in the agriculture industry. However, there was some positives to the agriculture industry including record setting grain prices and stocker cattle holding through the fall and now into a very strong market to start 2022. Working to insure the customer/calf producer the most profitable dollars possible has always been our goal. What better way to do so than to raise the type of bulls the livestock industry needs plus be the guy marketing the cattle. Every Thursday I work behind the mic, selling thousands of cattle a month to a well respected front row of order buyers. Our main goal at McIntosh Ranch is to produce bulls that will go out and sire calves that will be “ ones for the radio” as i call it. I’m always up to talk cattle whether its marketing advice on a load of calves or wanting a second opinion on the best time frame to market. I’m only a phone call away! I hope everyone has a great calving season and look forward to seeing new and old customers in 2022. The coffee is always on here at the ranch and I would be happy to show you around the bulls anytime. - Kolton

It’s our pleasure to welcome you to the 1st Annual McIntosh Ranch Online Bull and Commercial Female Sale. The McIntosh Ranch is a family owned and operated program with deep roots in agriculture and heavily in the commercial and purebred beef sectors as well as the sheep industry with their 400 head of ewes. Kolton works as a livestock auctioneer and gets to see first hand the trends and demands throughout the mart weekly as he sells, giving him an edge on what type of balanced traits to select for and to incorporate into their program. We strongly believe as you flip through the catalog and appraise the 16 bulls on offer you will see Kolton has done his due diligence to present a product that will positively impact your bottom line. You will notice as you flip through the catalog, 13 of the 16 bulls on offer are sons created via Ai or embryo transplant, from some of the most sought after genetics within the industry. The usage of some of the McIntosh raised bulls were incorporated such as Perspective and Full House as they were highly confident in what these bulls had to offer from a phenotype standpoint and because they new the cow families of which these bulls came from. Building a bull pen behind a powerful and proven donor dam such as LRX 91A has resulted in a consistent set as she has 4 direct sons on offer and 2 grandsons. She has been a leading donor with multiple herd bulls working in purebred and commercial outfits in some of the most well respected programs in the industry and daughters working both in herd as well as in some others. Other sires such as Poker Face, Bentley, Red Whiskey and President are also represented and these are some of the most proven bulls available. The McIntosh bulls are developed in some ground where lots of bush and rock are apparent throughout the summer months and then are weaned and grazed out on stubble until the snow covers the ground. These bulls are then developed responsibly with gut health and longevity in mind. Superior structure and foot quality are heavily emphasized at MRK so you can rest assured they have done the culling and dirty work for you. We encourage you to reach out to Kolton to discuss this deep offering of bulls and commercial females from their valued customers. Better yet, get in the pick-up and head north to view the bulls and their dams. We know you’ll be impressed. Kolton would be glad to discuss your own program with you to help in selecting a sire that properly suits your needs. If any of us at Bohrson Marketing Services can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have. - Taylor Richards

No better way to lead off our first annual sale than with one of the best bulls we have raised to date. MRK 10J is a powerhouse; a deep sided, heavy muscled individual with a picture perfect foot underneath him, wide topped and checks all the boxes! Direct son out of the black baldy bull that has made a great impact on the breed, IPU Bentley 81F, and out of our leading donor LRX 91A ( Lucy ) who we just recently lost this past winter. Maternal brothers and sisters to 10J have sold to well respected breeders including Labatte Simmentals, Oberle Bros, Spring Creek Simmentals, W2 Land & Cattle, and Johns Simmentals just to name a few. 10J is packed with maternal greatness and backed by an untouchable cow. 10J is one you’re sure to want to see in person as he is sure to impress.

MRK 30J is very proud fronted and definitely one of the most complete bulls in the offering. 30J daughters should evolve into some of the best cows any operation will own.

We have full sisters in production and they are the type of females that we strive for. I wish we had 100 of them.

Sired by WHF Limitless who has an impressive track record on both sides of the border. 8J is out of cow we purchased as a heifer calf from the Bertholet Family (Maple Lake Stock Farms). 8J will sire the type that push the scale down in the fall and the front row of buyers at the sale barn will fight over.

We were fortunate enough to purchase a package of embryos from Evan Cuss in the 2020 March Madness Sale. We were hoping for heifer calves so we could start another cow family here at the ranch, as the Tula 1R cow is a female I have always admired. 1R is the mother of the baldy bull Drake Poker Face who made a huge impact in the breed I feel. 28J is sired by the one of the most influential bulls in the breed, Spring Creek Liner 56U. As the way things would go we only had 28J born and our loss is your gain. You’re definitely going to want to mark 28J on sale day as he is the real deal.

She has a daughter working for Berts NR Simmentals and a son breeding heifers for Erin Armstrong. You should see her Betts heifer calf this year! 7J has a huge top and foot and lots of middle. I look forward to dropping 16J off in the spring and seeing the job he will do for his new owners herd.

Replacement Females

In conjunction with our first annual bull sale we wanted to “give back” to our previous bull buyers over the years and give them the opportunity to market replacement heifers sired by McIntosh Ranch Bulls. Unfortunately the biggest response we received was “ thanks for the offer but i don’t think I’m interested, we can’t sell our best heifers”. With that being said, these two customers stepped up to the plate and brought their best. We plan to continue to offer this opportunity to all our new and existing bull customers to be able to market top end McIntosh Ranch sired replacement heifers in conjunction with our annual bull sale.

HEIFER PURCHASES MUST BE PICKED UP AT THE CONSIGNORS FARM BY MARCH 25TH unless prior arrangements are made with the consignors. We will do our best to coordinate trucks for out of province buyers to insure the heifers get to you place in a safe and timely manner. -12-

How to Bid

V I S I T W W W. FA R M G AT E T I M E DAU C T I O N S . C A 1. Click the LOGIN/REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions simply enter your user name and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions. 2. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale at this time and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity. 3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This in fact protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a second lot of interest. 4. At closing time of the sale the entire sale will extend bidding if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after close time will extend the sale by the time listed on each sale. In Most cases the time gets shorter the longer in to extended bidding the sale is. When no bidding occurs for the extended time the computer will declare the sale finished. 5. Following the sale the Owner or Sale Manager will invoice all buyers in the sale, please contact the seller with questions or to arrange delivery, pick up or shipping of your purchases. For more info and assistance with bidding contact Mark Shologan Ph: 780-699-5082
