First of all, I can’t go any further until we thank our very valued customers, to all that have purchased bulls in the past as well as the buyers and bidders that attended our inaugural sale at the Lockhart Valley Ranch last year…. THANK-YOU!! You made our first sale at our new venue a huge success, and very memorable for all of us involved. Looking forward to this year we are very excited about what we have on offer. You will find a wide variety bulls throughout the catalog from fullbloods to reds to blacks, calving ease to power and everything in between. Although the numbers of our sale aren’t big, they are mighty with the intent to have quality over quantity.

In addition to the bulls, Beagle Simmentals will be selling 2 sets of 3 commercial heifers, as well, Jenna Olson of Silvertop Simmentals will be selling 2 purebred heifers. We felt that this would add to the numbers of the sale as well as provide an opportunity for our customers to pick up some top notch heifer calves to add to their heifer pen.

Welcome to our 11th Annual bull sale and as I think about out past sales, I am so thankful for the support our customers, old & new have shown us. Well, 2015 is done and last years sales both purebred and commercial were off the charts. The feeder market reached all time highs, as well as the butcher cow and bull market. Prices softened in the fall but are expected to rebound, so now is the time to get rid of those older bulls that maybe arenâ€™t doing their job, are lame or just getting a bit long in the tooth. We are extremely hard on our cows and calves in the spring when selecting which bulls to keep. We might start with 30 (a small number I know) but they always seem to weed themselves out. As in every year we strive to bring you the best bulls we can and I can truly say that this years offering is one of our best. Lee, Hannah and I are extremely proud of these boys and we feel that they exemplify what we are trying to do in our program. There are some new sire groups that will add some fresh genetics to your breeding programs. As always we work with Wetaskiwin Co-op and Brian Malmas on a balanced ration not only for our bulls, but for the cows and replacements. The bulls are fed a ration of Cereal sileage, Wetaskiwin bull pellets and oats. The boys are also housed in a large pen with plenty of room to get out and move. We realize that buying your next herd bull is serious business and because of that we promise to deliver the best product, guarantee and customer service to you. One day in the spring of 2014, Lee and I happened to be at Alta Genetics bull station when we came upon Big Time. We were so impressed with his structure, frame, hair, testicles and disposition that we went back and looked at him a second time. Liking still what we saw, we found out who owned him and were fortunate enough to get some semen on him. We’d like to thank Kyle Lewis for the opportunity to use Big Time. That was a great move as we are so impressed with his sons and daughters. When talking to Scott Bohrson of Bohrson Marketing (they sell Big Time semen) he could not express enough what a great mother cow Big Time comes from, a beautiful cow with an exceptional udder. We are excited to see his daughters in production next year. Take a moment and really analyze his sons, there should be one that would work for just about anyone.

This is Hannah’s bull, hence the name “My Boy”. He’s been super quiet right from birth and would follow us around in the pasture last summer. He’s as long as a freight train, smooth made, big testicles and walks out on large feet, lots of performance in this bull. He comes out of a really good R-Five Maltese cow. LVHS Cagney 18C is out of an Exodus fullblood cow. His pedigree has such bulls as Double Bar D Lincoln, Sir Arnold 809G, Bold and Bar 5 Sir Arnold 624T. Cagney is a lighter brown color with a blaze face. He gets out and walks smoothly on big feet. Cagney has good testicle development. He has a nice temperament on him and is easy to work with. With his larger frame Cagney should be able to cover more cows in his rookie breeding season. His steers will push the scale down and his replacement heifers should go on to be productive cows.

LHVS Carlyle 33C is smaller in stature than 12C, 18C and 20C, makes sense because his dam is a smaller cow. Carlyle still has the hair, testicle size and big foot under him. He’s also very quiet natured and east to handle. This young bull would work well on Red Angus or Hereford based cow herd. Expect Carlyle to boost your weaning weights and have excellent females for your replacement pen.

Channing is from a very small framed PRL Waffle cow. You’ll find such cow makers as KS Bravado, SU Jenkins, Anchor “T” Legend and Metro in his pedigree, all great cow makers. Channing is solid dark red in color. He has the same build and attributes as his siblings. I can’t tell you enough how much we like the KWA Big Time calves. This is a solid little bull and will work well in any commercial herd, whether they be Red or Black Angus, Hereford, Charolais and Simmental based cows.

Combustible is a black baldie bull from the United States. He’s a stylish bull, moderate framed and puts a sweet temperament on his calves. When we had the opportunity to purchase the Combustible X Iron Sugar embryos we jumped at the chance. We bought 3 embryos from Mader Ranches and got these calves, 2 bulls and 1 heifer. Both bulls are in the bull pen and the heifer in the replacement pen. We used him on our LHVS 100S cow, who has given us bulls such as Johnny Be Good, Thor and Mumbo Jumbo. Her calf Cederick is in the sale this year and crossed with Combustible she produced a bull with all the style but with a bit more frame. We are very happy with the Combustible bull calves in our sale and feel that they will go onto sire those highly desirable show steers and heifers.

For LHVS Cederick 46C, I’m going to talk about LHVS 100S. What a cow she has been for us. Her track record speaks for itself, everyone of her bull calves have gone to the Leedale Colony. Her daughter LHVS 9W had an outstanding set of flushmates in our sale last spring, with LHVS Redtitan 67B being our high seller going to Brad Olson of Chauvin, AB. This year she has a beautiful Spring Creek Liner 56U heifer calf and we are excited to see what she can do with her. Her daughter, LHVS 51A has a smart looking Springcreek Olympian bull calf on her and we can’t wait to see what happens over the summer with that pair. 100S is a fine cow in our opinion and we look forward to many more calves from her. At 10 years of age she’s a very youthful looking, low maintenance and trouble free. Use Cederick to increase weaning weights and leave great replacements that have longevity built in. This is the first of the embryo bull calves from Combustible and Iron Sugar. He got off to a rocky start as he was born a whole month early. He’s solid black with a few white hairs on his forehead. He has a great hair coat and a nice even temperament. He gets out and struts right along, moving smoothly on a great set of feet and legs. LHVS Black Sugar would work well on Angus based herd, giving the new owner those 4-H show steers and heifers everyone wants. Black Sugar should calve easily, mature at a very moderate size and be a low maintenance type animal. Tested Homozygous Polled

Burnt Sugar has been one of Hannah’s favorites in the bull pen this year. Built in a similar fashion as his full brother. He too has a beautiful hair coat, a trait that Combustible seems to pass on to his offspring. He also has that all important blaze face. Both of these full brothers are built low to the ground and thick down through their spines. They also are very well muscled on their hind ends. Flashy show steers and beautiful heifers he should make. We are going o use him in our program this spring. Examine him closely, its herd bull time with LHVS Burnt Sugar. Tested Homozygous Black and Color Inconclusive.

At the same Embryo sale that we bought the Combustible Embryos we also purchased the Royal Affair X CVLS MS Georgia 565R Embryos. We had a choice between Royal Affair and some other bull (the name escapes me) and we chose the Royal Affair Embryos. We implanted 3 and got 2 calves, both bulls. We are very impressed with both bull calves we have on offer for you. Royal Affair has 52 calve registered out of him in Canada alone including our 2 bulls. Royal Affair semen is not on the open market in Canada, so we were very lucky to get those 3 embryos.

LHVS Hidden Affair 44C is a smaller version of LHVS 42C. It’s always amazing how the exact same genetics can be so different. Hidden Affair is 270 lbs lighter than his full brother, he’s also the type of bull that doesn’t like to be alone or strange sounds. He still has that beautiful hair, large testicles, great muscle expression down his hind quarters, wide down his top all standing on large feet. LHVS Hidden Affair 44C is a top quality young herdsire and would work well within the Simmental breed.

LHVS Secret Affair 42C is the second of the Royal Affair bull calves we have on offer. LHVS 42C is hard to describe other than he’s the larger of the 2 calves. Secret Affair is solid black and has that straight hair that the show jockeys like much. He has a nicely set head and neck that follow down a wide top and ending in a rump that rivals a Fullbloods. He has short legs with a big foot under him. Large testicles round out the picture. We will be using Secret Affair in our program this spring. Purebred breeders should look hard at Secret Affair, he’s hard to fault and feel that with his pedigree he could go on and do a lot of good in the purebred world. Tested Homozygous Polled and has the Red Carrier gene.

LHVS 64A is a solid black ER Big Sky 545B son and was intended to go into our bull sale in 2014 but due to his size we felt he was too small to sell. He has a tiny 75lb birthweight and since we needed a heifer bull, into the heifer pen he went. Best move ever as he calved on heifers like a dream. Small vigorous calves at birth, up and nursing quickly. We have 4 sons on offer, 2 reds and 2 blacks, and all 4 are small framed bulls with small or moderate birth weights. If you want calving ease, look at these 4 half brothers over. We never had 64A tested, but he did poll all his calves.

LHVS Carlton 31C is from a beautiful LBR Crocket R81 daughter. Carlton 31C is again small framed with a finer bone in him than LHVS 74C or LHVS 102C. He had a nice 84 lb birth weight and we would recommend that he would work on heifers. Carlton is deep dark red color with great feet, legs and large testicles for his size.

LHVS Carlson 34C is solid black in color. He started out a nice 84 lb birth weight and weaned off his dam at 750 lbs. Calving ease is built into this bull with Hook’s Shear Force and a double shot of ER Big Sky in his pedigree. With a calving ease at +11.6 we recommend Carlson for heifers. This little dude has a great personality and has developed a thing with chains as he likes to push the gate chain up and down the post. Easy to work with and a real pain because he’s always at the gate trying to get your attention by playing with that darn chain or growling at you, he’s the spitting image of his sire. A pen favorite here.

LHVS Charley 74C is a black baldy faced bull with the nickname “Panda Bear”. LHVS 74C is tiny framed but is thick down his back. Very quiet natured little guy as you can see by the photograph on our welcome page, he really likes Hannah. Good feet and legs under him and adequate testicles for his size. He’ll calve easy but we wouldn’t recommend him for heifers. Charley 74C is a commercial cattlemens dream, siring very showy steers and heifers all wrapped up in a moderate framed stylish little bull.

Here’s the last of the LHVS 64A sons. Solid red in color and a very well built calf. Excellent temperament on him – that seems to be a trait that his sire passes along to his calves. His dam is a small framed cow so she did very well for her first try. Look this little bull over carefully, we think you’ll like what you see.

Johnny was purchased in the spring bull sale of 2013, by the Leedale Colony. Danny let us feed him and use him in the winter/spring of 2014. We bred him to small number of cows and he gave us 2 really nice bull calves. We’ve always really liked Johnny for his thickness, body depth, loin and large testicles and big foot. It’s funny because although Johnny Be Good has a blaze face, his two bull calves are solid red and black respectively. Look Carson 36C and Cade 17C over closely, they are real rancher type bulls.

What can be said about Jenkins that we’ve already said. He’s one of the BEST Fullblood bulls we’ve ever used and it has been so difficult to replace him. I guess when you’ve had the best its hard to settle for anything less. So all I’ll say is look at his 2 sons that are in the sale over very carefully. They are both powerful bulls and if performance is what you are looking for, then look no further and if you need replacement females, they’ll do that too.

Duane Klassen has always wanted us to breed our little Stroller cow to Jenkins so we did. Boy she did not disappoint. LHVS Cartier 43C is built low to the ground just like his momma. LHVS 70U comes from one of my favorite cow families, LHVS MS Lockhard 52M. I was sad when we had to sell her because of an injury. This little bull has such greats in his pedigree as Anchor “T” Legend, Knight Stinger and Triple SP Stromer and backed up by SU Jenkins, you can’t go wrong. This is a really neat bull that I have really became very fond of. Moderately framed dark cherry red bull out of a really strong “Westway Hinsdale” cow that I AI bred to the fullblood bull “Colossal Combination” This guy will really put the pounds on his calves after calving, he has really nice weaning and yearling weight EPD’S. CHUNK is the word that comes to mind when you have a look at this guy, the pet of the pen. If you want to add muscle, depth, broad top, rib shape and overall thickness this is your guy. Cleveland is out of a first calving Accelerator daughter who again is a very thick made developing cow with a great udder and feet. A calf with a little lighter color with fantastic testicle development. His sire Red Specialist is known for calving ease but again I would hesitate using this guy on heifers but sleep easy with this polled block of a calf after using him on cows.

Yep Clutterbuck! Those of you that know my hockey background and watched me play will understand this one.. Here’s a smaller framed dark red bull with the much coveted money stripe. Out of a fullblood first calver and our calving ease “Strait Up” son, definitely a bull that will go out on a ranch and do a job! Calving Ease and some really nice performance numbers are all wrapped up in this very attractive package. I am not sure if I would suggest him on heifers but I feel he would do a bang job on a group of second calvers. A lot of things to really like here.

Cinci is another moderately framed thick blaze faced bull that has really come into his own, a mid February calf that has an awesome hair coat, feet and legs. A soggy bull calf that really moves well and will put the muscle into his progeny. He is loaded with maternal characteristics and will really produce milk making females like his Dam. He is the first son to sell out of LHVS 63A a polled fullblood son of Commander. I really like both the bulls and heifers from him, easy calving and smallish at birth and then really take off. Look for his sisters to sell in the heifer section.

Here’s bull with a little more frame, he has really put the pounds on and has great performance/weaning numbers. This more traditional looking purebred calf just keeps coming and growing into himself. If you would like to put some added pounds on your calves at weaning this guy may be the right bull for you. Have a close look on sale day he quite possibly be the buy of the day. A lot of very productive names in his background that will work with a lot of cow herds.

Clark is another traditional looking purebred calf that is as long as they come and is another calf that just keeps putting the pounds on. A very smooth made bull that will calve easy and produce heifers that will milk and steers that will push down the scales. Another bull you will want to have a close look at on sale day, there is always a risk that a bull gets over looked and this guy may be the insurance you need. Clark is horned for some reason, both his parents are smooth polled so I would say the likelihood of polled calves is high with polled cows. Double goggled and a very good disposition.

We have decided to try something a little different this year to boost the numbers and add a little diversification to our sale. Beagle Simmentals is proud to offer 2 Lots of three heifers. These heifers are being sold as commercial heifers. We had a very strong year on the heifer side of things last year we felt that it would benefit the sale. I have to say parting with these heifers is truly tough and here are three examples why. All three of these girls are easy keeping deep bodied heifers with lots of calving ease built in. You couldnâ€™t ask for better temperaments. These girls are going to make fantastic cows for their new owners. Two are polled and the blaze is horned (with both sire and dam being polled).

32 These paternal sisters are peas in a pod. All three are sired by the Commander son LHVS 63A. He has done a great job for us this past year both on the commercial and papered side. All three of these girls are deep dark red blaze heifers that will look good in anybodyâ€™s heifer pen. Easy doing, free moving girls that will be a joy to own.
