Welcome to the 3rd Annual KSL Simmentals Bull sale!! We survived 2020 and that’s about as much as most of us want to reminisce about this past year. So instead of dwelling on the issues and struggles of our past year, I must start off by welcoming you into 2021 and to this year’s bull sale offering. An immense thank you goes out to the amazing customer listed on page 21 in the catalogue. We are so thankful to have you support KSL genetics; by purchasing bulls in last year’s sale, buying select semen packages, and commercial bred females. We also thank our buyers of our registered bred females, through the Lone Stone Invitational female sale. We consider ourselves so lucky to be a part of the cattle industry and to interact with such wonderful people and customers. From repeat bull buyers near and far to new friendly faces, we are so grateful and look forward to working with you all for years to come. The bulls in this year’s offering have been developed slowly and we appreciate the fresh look they carry. Naturally muscled and modestly fed, we know these bulls will last and grow out to their full potential for their new owners. We strive to feed the bulls a balanced TMR (total mixed ration) of oat silage, alfalfa/grass hay and rolled barley. A high forage ration that promotes gut health as well as good honest gains, is used to show the animals genetic potential and abilities in most farmyards. We know these bulls need to check off many boxes for our producers, from producing top quality marketable calves headed to the feedlots or a replacement pen of heifers to incorporate back into your herd. Our bulls are backed by highly maternal mothers with good udders and sound feet, that maintain body condition while weaning off profitable calves. The offering has a variety of sire groups from new leading edge AI sires to our top-quality walking sires. We work very hard at sourcing herd sires to ensure our bull buyers have some of the best genetics the amazing Simmental breed has to offer; whether it be horned or polled, red or black, and fullblood. The diverse set of bulls can be used on a variety of cattle, from performance to calving ease. We feel there is a bull in our pen that can suit your breeding needs, cover big pastures and more cows with some of our extra age bulls. We have bulls to work in your heifer pens or help find areas in your herd you’re looking to improve. Please feel free to ask us a million questions. We too are always trying new things, making improvements, and learning something new every day. There is nothing we enjoy more than discussing cattle and going over the bulls, their dams and what we’re doing around the farm. We feel there is no better way to learn in this industry than from each other and we value our customers input more than any. We look forward to hosting our sale on the farm in the same format as usual, while following the Alberta health services recommendations and whatever Covid restrictions are in place at the time of the sale. The only Big Sky Bubba son to sell this year, Hendrix is a real head turner! Smooth polled and chromed up, this yearling bull is excellent footed. He carries himself so well and is hard to find a fault in from front to back. Strong topped, with loads of muscle and shape. His dam is also an exciting up and coming female for us with an outcross pedigree and loads of eye appeal. We are so fortunate to have Bubba semen in the tank, he was a bull we wished we could have walked for many more years but lost him due to injury. So, don’t miss out on a son of this great herd sire!

Powerhouse!! This polled bull has been one of our favourites from a young age. Long as a freight train and bigger structured. Hurley is going to be a big boy who adds dimension to his calves. The Duke sired calves are known for their impeccable foot and calm disposition, which 6H exemplifies perfectly. His Jeremiah dam is no slouch either, she is big bodied and broody in all the ways we love.

Living in Canada you always come to appreciate a HEAT WAVE! 12H is one of the most complete polled bulls we have raised. Sound footed, good structured and well-muscled, Heat Wave is a powerhouse. Another good-tempered Duke son with a perfect foot and heavy pigment. His dam is shaping up to be one of our front-end cows. We sold her first Blueprint female to the good folks at Dead Horse Creek in 2019. Heat Wave’s dam is a big bodied Regio cow that is as complete from front to back as they come. The depth of body and muscle shape he carries is what we love to see on polled cattle. While being extremely free moving and sound.

The style and body type in Hampton is one that always catches your eye. A smooth polled bull with that desired neck extension and transition into his shoulders that flows so well into his full middle. Then the explosive muscle shape through his hip and rear quarter, 20H always seems to be posing and showing off but it just comes natural to him. His Bacardi Gold dam is stepping into her mother’s ( RJRS 450P) footsteps and becoming a leading Fleckvieh cow around here.

Another solid polled fullblood bull, the Duke calves are our largest sire group this year and the consistency in these bull speaks volumes. The foot quality, smooth polled skull design and confirmation of these calves are excellent. Haris’s dam is a big time producing heavy milking Metro cow, that also stems back to the RJRS 450P cow family. A super smooth made Duke son that is a very neat mix of calving ease and maternal strengths. Homesteader has lots of neat pigment coming from his dam and grand dam. Loose made with loads of hair this calf has a very easy to be around temperament. His Sonic dam is absolutely perfect uddered and footed! Dark cherry red with perfect pigment, Canadian Hustle is another smooth polled son of Big Sky Duke that you just can’t miss. These young Vindicator dams are shaping up to be some of our most productive young cows. The Duke x Vindicator cross is one that certainly works and if its male or female these calves will market themselves. This polled son of Bravo is a neat mix of calving ease and performance. Out of a first-time calving Envoy daughter who stems back to be a direct daughter of the RJRS 450P cow herself. The pedigree on this fella reads right on paper but also completes the package in person. He is cherry red with loads of pigment, excellent haired and just has the look!! The longevity in this cow family is second to none, as we still have the 450P cow here and pregnant to calve this May at the ripe age of 17.

The maternal brother to last year’s high seller that sold to Ten Bar Cattle Co, Overdrive is a smooth polled Evolution son. Dark cherry red and loaded up on pigment, 23H is an eye appealing calf. Overdrive’s dam Big Sky Ava was a past equation high seller, and she was an investment we are sure glad we made. She is a moderate framed cow, with excellent thickness, a perfect foot, and a dream worthy udder. She has another son working in Grovedale for Cauy Smith as well as a female in the good Nolara herd at Mayerthorpe.

A pen favourite from an early age, 40H has had that big time herd bull look since he was a week old. Sired by the High Selling JNR Cashmere, buying a semen pack on this sire has made us very happy with the investment. Heavy haired, perfect colour pattern, length of spine, and muscle all put together with a polled head. This calf will cause “Havoc” in so many good ways in your calf crop! A calving ease bull that I think could work on bigger heifers and young cows. Hiro has the possibility of being homo polled (waiting on results) and darn near solid coloured for a full fleck. His dam is a very exciting young Envoy female with a beautiful tightly tucked udder. When it comes to Holt, I must give this calf a lot of credit for being able to make the bull pen after going most the summer without his mother. When we moved the bull calf pairs to their own pasture closer to the house mid-summer, as much as we are embarrassed to say, we hauled his mother to the wrong pasture. Well after a week went by and we realized what we had done, the pair was weaned. Holt never missed a beat and exceled through summer, but I can’t imagine what he would have weaned at with the help of his mother. 43H is clearly an easy keeper and a good hardy calf!

Heifer pen friendly!! Heston is our calving ease pick for 2021. The Ferrous x Duke cross i think works in his favour for a double shot of calving ease. 65H is as smooth as they come, from the tip of his possibly Homo polled head back! His dam is a very fine made feminine female that controls birth weight well. I see Heston working much like his sire and giving dark red heavy pigmented small birth weight calves that jump up vigorously at birth and go!!!

The dam of 48H might actually be one of my favourite 2nd calvers we have to calve out in 2021. A beautiful polled Duke daughter that is just so feminine in her design in her front 1/3 but is just exploding with power and thickness from her shoulders back. I think Herald would work wonderful on a group of younger 2nd calvers, calving ease with enough power and punch to really incorporate some maternal highlights.

Another calving ease candidate sired by Mohawk. Howard is a solid red smooth made bull that I think could work in the right heifer pen. Gus is another big powerful bull in the long yearling pen. The depth of body and length of spine 112G shows is something we all could use more of in our calf pens in the fall come weaning time. The ability Gus has to convert feed into meat and muscle is surely to pay off in his offspring. Gringo may look like he is horned but is scurred, every now and then a homo polled sired bull will develop big loose scurs. TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash, cheque, and wire transfers, payable at par at the sale location unless satisfactory payment arrangements have been made prior to the sale with seller, buyer and Bohrson Marketing Services. Bohrson Marketing Services reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Payment in full must be made before cattle can be released and shipped. Exchange rates will be announced sale day and the sale will be held in Canadian funds.

BIDDING: All animals to sell through the sale must be sold by auction with each animal selling to the highest bidder. Private sales will not be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. DISPUTES: In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in the dispute. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid and the auctioneer’s decision will be final. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Any announcement from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

HEALTH: All sale animals have met all necessary health requirements and it is the buyer’s responsibility and expense to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state. Bohrson Marketing Services assume no responsibility for the health status of any animal in the sale. PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. SHIPPING: Shipping of cattle, semen and/or embryos are the responsibility and expense of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to provide shipping instructions at settlement on sale day.
