13 Andrea Newsome AGE Hello, my name is Andrea Newsome and this is my second year showing a steer. This year my steer is a homegrown black Angus X named José. Homeschooling gives me extra time for me and my sisters to work on our steers. When I am not with José, I am usually found working with one of my horses. Thank you for coming to support the High Steaks Junior Beef Club.

My name is Elle Flaig and this is my 2nd year in the high steaks beef club. I love writing and spending time with my animals and siblings. This year my high steaks project is a white speckled park who I call Captain. I purchased Captain from KFC Farms with my earnings from my last years steer project. Captain is a bit spicy and has a lot of energy. Captains pen mates have encouraged him to eat lots which has helped him gain more. I had a rough start with Captain but thanks to some great support from very knowledgeable parents and fellow members in the club we pulled through!

My name is Katie Newsome and this is my first year of having a steer project. My steer’s name is Junior and he is a homegrown black Angus. This has been a great learning year for me as a I have also earned 5 High School credits for raising my steer!! Thank you to my parents, my sisters, the other members and their parents for all of your help and advice!

12 Austin Cartwright AGE Hi,my name is Austin Cartwright. I am 13 years old and this is my first year in the High Stakes Junior Beef Club. My steer Gambler is a Speckle Park/Angus cross. I worked hard all summer fixing fence for KFC Farms to buy him. I am enjoying the new learning experiences in the club and making new friends.

My name is Sloan Walker and I am almost 13 years old. I have loved High Steaks this year because I am one of the older kids and I am proud of my Homegrown Steer Demarkus. I just finished grade 7 and am a sports fanatic. I love Sports but my favorites and ones that i do most are Rodeo and basketball. This year I have my cards for multiple rodeo associations where i Steer Ride, Chute Dog and am starting to Breakaway Rope. My steer Demarkus is out of my 4H cow Cracker. Demarkus is finished and ready to fill someone’s Freezer. Thanks to all the Sponsors, Volunteers and Buyers for Supporting our Club.

My name is Logan Matthews and I am 13 years old and I live west of Olds. This is my first year in the High Steaks Club and my steers name is Bandit. My passion is Hockey and I play both winter and spring hockey in the Hockey Super League and the HDC Bandits out of Calgary as a goalie. I also love golf and enjoy skiing and water skiing when I get the opportunity. Bandit is a really hairy, long bodied steer with a huge hip and good muscle. Thank you to everyone for the support of the High Steaks program.

12 Kashton Ziebarth AGE Kashton is a huge animal lover and loves to play hockey and rope. He is 13 years old and in Grade 7. Kashton enjoys working with his Steer and just qualified for his 2nd Alberta Junior High Rodeo Provincial Finals in Boys Goat Tying, Ribbon Roping, Team roping and Chute Dogging. Diesel has been a great steer and hasn’t missed a feeding since we got him! Kash plans to buy his first heifer or a rope horse with his sale earnings.

11 Zach Flaig AGE Hi I’m Zach and this is my second year in the high steaks Junior beef club. This year I have a homegrown steer named Sarge. He has been a really fun experience. His finishing weight and rate of gain have beyond exceeded my expectations. This experience started with him near freezing to death being born in -30 weather to saving him and feeding him twice a day to deliver a fully finished steer to my clubs sale. I know he will be great. Thanks for your support.

11 London Matthews AGE My name is London Matthews and I am 12 years old and I live west of Olds. My passion is animals‚ all animals but my favorite right now is my steer Woodford. This year I have taken Woodford out to a few jackpots with lots of success and have even won a couple of champion banners. This mythical creature also happens to be a full brother to my steer last year, the famous Milkshake!

Woodford is really thick and moderate and will make a awesome carcass with very little waste.

My name is Stella Mader and I am 12 years old. My steers name is “Splash,” and he is Simm x Angus. I am a hockey girl at heart, and really enjoy raising and showing cattle year long. The High Steaks club and show and sale is a real highlight within my life, and I am also a big part of our family business, Mader Ranches

My steer this year is a Simmental Angus cross that I call SIR HUB, We picked him out from my friend Marks place only 2 weeks after last years high steaks show and sale. 11 Leah Newsome AGE My name is Leah Newsome, I am in grade 6 and this is my second year in the High Steaks Junior Beef Club. This year I choose a homegrown Black Angus X. My dad and I were joking around and somehow, we came up with the name Booger! Booger is very calm; he has been a great project and I very happy with how he has finished for me. I love everything about cattle from calving, raising, roping, showing them!!

Colt Needham 10 AGE My name is Colt and I am 10 years old. Empire is my 4th show steer and he is a real pet. My homegrown steer is Hereford x Red Simmental. I really enjoy the cattle industry as a whole.

When I am not with my steer I am found riding my horse swinging a rope or shooting hoops.

Karsen Van Sickle 10 AGE I’m Karsen Van Sickle, I’m 10 yrs old & in Gr 5. This year my Steer‚ Chipotle‚ is a homeraised & 100% Red Angus. He came by his name honestly as he was a bit, spicy at the start of the year, but with my persistence & hard work he is super quiet & easy to handle now. This is my second year in HSJB, & I hope to see you all June 4 at our Show & Sale.

My name is Hawkin Mader and I am 9 years old. My steers name is “Jamal,” and he is a purebred Simmental. I love sports such a hockey and lacrosse, but am also very passionate about my livestock. I really enjoy being a High Steaks member, and showing cattle throughout the summer and fall as apart of our business, Mader Ranches.

I am 10 years old....and almost 11 on June 14. People who know me know that I love riding horses, working on my calves and hanging with my friends. I homeschool and work hard with my family everyday so we can also have a ton of fun. I love high Steaks because I learn so many new things and get to spend time with people doing the same stuff as my family. Paycheck is my steer this year. I picked him from Harvie Ranching and he is an Angus X Charolais steer. He is so quiet and has been a great friend of mine in my 2nd year with a steer. 9 Kaislee Ziebarth AGE Kaislee loves horses and junior rodeo. She loves all the roedo events and even wants to Chute Dog like her older brother. She is 10 years old and in Grade 4. Kaislee enjoys working with her Steer and she is looking forward to a summer of riding her horse Elmo. Kaislee’s 2nd year with a Market Steer has been good with lots of learning. Kaislee may buy her first heifer or just save her earnings for a horse one day.

Welcome to the High Steaks Show & Sale, my name is Gracie Bohrson and this is my second year in this awesome club. This year I picked Ferdinand as my steer project because he was a quiet, strong quality steer and we get along very well. I really enjoy working on him and other cattle on our family farm along with playing baseball, hockey, swimming, camping and much more. Thank you to Crossfield Agencies for buying my steer last year and also thank you to all that support the High Steaks Sale this year by bidding on mine and my friends’ steers.

8 Chick Harvie AGE My name is Chick Harvie and I am 9 years old. My steer “Henry” is a home raised Simmental steer who has been fun to halter break and clip. My steer and I have even managed to go to a few junior jackpot shows this spring with my friends in the High Steaks club. “Henry” was slapped Reserve Grand Champion Steer at the Chinook Junior Show in April which was a highlight. My passions include showing cattle with my friends and hunting. When I grow up, I want to be a butcher!

8 Megan Newsome AGE Hi my name is Megan Newsome and I am 9 years old. This is my first real year showing cows but I helped my sisters last year and picked my own homegrown steer named J.R. what is short for Just Right!! I have worked really hard this year and already have my eye on one for my next project. I really like our club because of all the help everyone gives and the fun we all have!!
