ard to believe 25 years has gone by so fast. On behalf of all of us at Anchor D Ranch, we welcome you to our 25th annual Genetic Edge Bull Sale. So many changes have taken place in that time frame. The expansion of the Fleckvieh herd to the addition of both the Purebred and Charolais divisions. Our kids have grown up and both moved into their own places, but are both extremely active in the Ranch.

It is so gratifying to watch them both chase and fulfil their dreams, and we are so blessed to have them on this journey with us. The one thing that has not changed is our commitment to the Ag industry and our focus on producing the best product we can.

Remembrance day has always been a special day in our hearts to honor the true heroes. Another hero was added to that list this year as that is the day my dad, Delmer passed away. Although my parents were never involved in the seed stock industry, they were both a driving force behind our program. Supportive, encouraging and fantastic role models and great cattlemen. I vividly remember the day our seed stock journey began back in 1981, when a persistent 10 year old boy (who may have skipped school) was determined to buy the bull that I thought we should have. Mom & Dad really only needed one bull that day, and they already bought the bull they wanted, but my pick was still coming. I was truly being a pain, and I still remember dad saying “If you really want him, YOU buy him”, and so I did. Little did we know, this was the start of “Anchor D Simmentals”. The years to follow registered females were acquired, and all because of one bull. It still ranks as one of the proudest days of my life, and I would almost be willing to bet one of the proudest for my parents as well. So thanks Mom and Dad. Although Dad isn’t physically with us, he always will be.

As far as this past year the best way to describe it would be WOW! Really hard to put into words. I always go back and read last year’s opening letter, for one; to not duplicate, but just see what my thoughts were about the year ahead. I had mentioned last year that the calves sold this past fall would be the highest you have sold, which was the case. I also feel the bulls you purchase this spring will show the largest impact in your bottom line over the next few years. All trends point to the fact that we have fewer producers and more demand, with fewer products. I still feel we have several good years ahead of us, and quality will still demand a premium. It’s important to buy the best bull that suits your program as he is the largest single factor to impact your program.

As far as the pen of bulls themselves, we are actually a few fewer Simmental bulls than past years. We didn’t feel this was a year to increase those numbers just reflecting on cow herd numbers in general. Contrary to that with the addition of the Charolais division and still expanding this program, those numbers are slightly larger than last year. In any case we are

very proud of all the bulls we have on offer. We feel as though we produce them with the commercial cattleman’s goals and needs in mind. In all three divisions you will find both performance and calving ease bulls. Bulls that come from established cow families, backed by serious bull power and raised right to last. Regardless of what type of bull you are looking for the write ups on each bull should help steer you in the right direction to suit your needs. These bulls are derived from a large cow herd and we feel as though we have done our due diligence at culling and selecting to insure only the best are here. You have heard us say this before; we don’t just want to sell you one bull today. We want to sell you many bulls over time. We are committed to this relationship and are a part of your team.

Feed & Bull Development Our bulls are raised on a TMR ration, consisting of 2/3 cereal silage and 1/3 corn silage, as well as 10 lbs. of Bull Ration, and free choice mineral. They are raised in a 5 acre yard so they have lots of room for exercise, and are able to go out and cover the ground.

We appreciate they could be fed to be bigger, but we also are very proud of the fact we have bulls still out working well into their early teens. The bulls will remain on the same ration up until delivery so they remain on a steady balanced diet to ensure proper development.

Health All bulls are under the watchful eye of Gull Lake Veterinary Services. They receive Vitamin AD&E as well as MUSE at birth. Express 5 and Covexin Plus prior to grass, as well as Express 10 and Covexin Plus, and boosters after weaning. Clean Up and Safeguard in December.

Anchor D Ranch Simmentals Influenced Calf Sales One thing we are always trying to do is figure out ways to add value for you, our customers. For the past several years we have been hosting the “Anchor D Simmental Influenced Calf Sales”, the first week of October. This allows feedlots to purchase large groups of calves with similar genetics, and health protocol in a timely fashion or producers wanting to capitalize on acquiring top end replacement females. This also allows for maximum dollars to be realized as it is added value for both buyer and seller. We are pleased that we will now be adding Charolais calves into the mix this year as well, so be sure to take advantage. Fleckvieh Division We are extremely proud of our Fleckvieh division. This was where it all started and the cow herd has grown from its humble beginning to the 300 plus mother cows we have in this section today. We have really focused on the importance of cow families, not just in our cow herd but our bull battery as well. We have been very dedicated in trying to source not only new genetics, but the best genetics for our program. Most of the bulls offered in the Fleckvieh division are from our walking herd sires with a handful coming from our AI program. Even though there are differences in the herd bulls, there are some qualities we insist on in every bull. Feet & Legs, Disposition, Maternal, and calving ability. These are qualities we feel we can’t neglect, and are qualities we feel are valuable to our customers as well. The bulls will be pictured in the order of their sire groups.

Ah the “Salty Dawg”, a bull who has garnished some attention. He is a bull who was noticed by many all summer long. He is a bull who adds a very different twist to many polled pedigrees, and has the added bonus of being Homozygous polled. He has loads of thickness and muscle shape, dark red, great hair and a tremendous disposition.

His dam was an incredibly easy keeping cow, and always displayed like she could have been in the show pen year round. She has two sons in production, one being “Zam” one of the feature herd bulls for Madge Simmentals, a second owned by Wendy Pellett. “Salty Dawg” is a bull who has huge potential and should do great things in his time. “Abracadabra” is another highly anticipated bull with such huge potential. His dam “Ziley” has become our full time lead donor cow now and has an extremely impressive track record, with her progeny sold to date averaging an impressive $37,000. Most notably “Raptor” who has had a large impact on the breed.“Ziley” is a cow that always impresses visitors, as she not only looks the part, she delivers. “Kash is King” is a bull that just grows on you more and more each day. His dam is very much a favorite young cow, who has a great pedigree that combines both calving ease and performance. I think this bull will be a valuable asset to any herd as he will be as diverse as they come. A bull that will provide calving ease but also still add that extra punch of performance, all in a perfectly sculpted package with great color pattern, extra hair, superb pedigree and topped off by being Polled as well. “Lachute” has always been a pen favorite, right from birth. His dam is without question one of our favorite cows, as she is an absolute sweet heart to work with, and always brings in a ripper. As a first calver she lost her baby a month premature, we milked her for a month and she still took a baby, that’s the disposition we are dealing with, and makes you understand why she’s a family favorite cow. This fall she had an outstanding daughter in our production sale selling to Stone Hill Farm, and also has progeny working for Randy Chubak, Dalyn Woloshyn as well as ourselves. This is a tremendous bull and he will be very easy to find sale day. Trust me you will like him.

This is the natural calf from “Kael”. He is a bit smaller than his pen mates, as he is a twin, so please take that into consideration. His full sister “Kaylee” was to be one of the feature heifers in this falls production sale, but a foot injury kept her from participating. She gathered much attention as a calf when she was shown and again this fall and we look forward to seeing what she will do in our own program. Please look at “Lindholm” for what he will do, as his performance is skewed being a twin. He has as strong of pedigree and potential as any bull we will have on offer.

“Lachlan” was one of a small handful of bulls who were weaned very early, as his dam went to town. We weaned him late July and he was kicked out on grass with the fall calves, and I would say he fended very well for himself. This is a bull with lots of style and eye appeal, with fabulous length, dark red, heavily pigmented and polled. His dam was a deep bodied cow backed by a great cow family. In fact her grand dam has yet another bull in the sale pen this year (lot #47) and is still producing at age 14. Lots of longevity in this guy.

One of the best parts about raising a pen of bulls is watching them develop. “Pecos In My Pocket” has been a calf I have had my eye on from birth. Not because he was the big flashy calf in the pen, but because of his structure and his potential of what he will bring to the table. This bull is smooth and fine built, and I have always personally felt one of the toughest things to find is that bull that offers enough calving ease but more than just a calving ease bull. I think that’s this bull to a tee. I would personally feel pretty confident in sorting up the right pen of heifers for him, but expect extra punch after they hit the ground. Then just look at the pedigree if that’s not marketable I’m not sure what is. Then the fact that he just happens to be blood red heavily pigmented and oh ya Homozygous Polled too! No doubt “Pecos In My Pocket” will add extra Pecos in your pockets.

“Lanco” is one of the youngsters in this year’s sale. Always one of the toughest things we do is try to raise some of these buckskin bulls. Years upon years of breeding dark reds they are very tough to come by. The dam of “Lanco” is marked and colored just like him, and honestly you bring a good set of buckskin steers to town in any local market you have the potential to bring home a big cheque. The bonus here is you also have the opportunity to double down and cash in on a replacement heifer market too. Simply the best of both worlds all rolled into one package. Here he is.

Our fall calving program is very small in numbers, but does offer an opportunity to those who want a bull with a bit more age. We weaned these calves the first of June and they just went out on grass, so there is no extra pampering in these guys. When we weaned the winter born calves, they just went on feed with them. These bulls are bred to last. “Krimson” comes from an outstanding “Epic” daughter. This bull will be a big performance bull, with different management his numbers would look completely different, but trust me this is going to be an incredible performance bull that will produce a top end group of calves and comes in a polled package as an added bonus.

“Kurfew” is the calving ease option of these three fall calvers. He is a very smooth fronted finer built bull, who still possesses enough growth and power. He comes from a beautiful young cow we purchased from Eagle Ridge and is multiple generations of polled genetics. This is the final calf for the dam of “Kershaw”. This was a fabulous producing cow in her time, and she actually only ever had two other bull calves, one being “Sorcerer” who ended up being a herd bull for Rocking R and later came back to our own herd as a mature bull, the second being “Apex” a herd bull for Stone Simmentals. Some of you may have already seen “Salizar” this summer as he was the bull calf Garren showed, and he went on to be named Champion Bull at the Alberta YCSA show. You want performance, well here it is. “Lanahan” was the #2 indexing bull at weaning and the #1 indexing bull as a yearling. This is a big time performance bull that also looks the part. The pedigree is also something to really admire. His dam is a full sister to our old “Montana” bull. He is a bull we sold to Ferrybank Colony as a yearling and were fortunate enough to purchase him back as a 3 year old. We unfortunately lost him before we ever were able to draw semen on him, and his daughters are now all gone but several granddaughters are still in the herd and are they ever good. He is a bull we used with great success in our heifer pen, but then they had that explosive growth. “Lanahan” is a bull you will use on your mature cows, and my free advice is keeping as many daughters as you can from him. The “Sheamus” calves are the power group for the most part, and “Prophecy” certainly puts an exclamation mark on that comment.

Another big power bull backed by a great cow family again, going back to “Herlinde”. If you want longevity it’s stacked all the way through on this guy, with a triple shot of “Dorothy Jane” sprinkled in the mix. Just look at the actual weaning weight and tell me that isn’t what the beef business is all about. This guy has been a standout right from day one. He’s always had the look. I can’t begin to say enough good things about the “Sheamus” sire group. This bull adds so much muscle shape and dimension, added growth, great foot structure, color and pigmentation, and possesses the polled gene himself. Another powerful polled bull. “Carl” isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, as I appreciate he does have some birth weight. Don’t get me wrong I don’t want a bunch of big birth weight calves either, however when mature cows can just lay down and have them I honestly prefer them to 70 lb. calves. Type wise I think “Intel” reminds me the most of his sire. This is a big hipped stout made bull, that just gets thicker made every day.

A very frequent term we use around here is “Flower Sniffer”. Well “Topaz” truly is a “Flower Sniffer”. “Luca” is another of the calves we weaned in late July and was turned back out on grass to fend for himself, so yes his numbers don’t truly show the full picture. He is a bull we have really liked all along, and his dam was a very solid producer for us. She is a cow we purchased from Mike Imler, and was no stranger to adding calves into the sale pen. “Luca” is a bull with a lot of upside, and I think as he develops he will become extremely similar to his sire. A very solid bull that will work on any type of cow.

Not all accidents are bad. One morning we woke up to discover two of the sale bulls got out during the night for a quick visit to the cow pen. Apparently they did more than just visit. We have sent DNA off to see who they are sired by. Both bulls that got out were “French Attack” sons, so we are certain on ¾ of their pedigree.

At this point we cannot guarantee they will be sold with papers, if they come back confirmed to “Iconic” they will be papered, as our hired man Gary bought him so he is being used in a purebred herd. Regardless this is a pretty solid pair of bulls, and I guess it goes without saying fertility is very high in both of them. Both bulls come from great cow families with lots of longevity in both cow families, and they are performance bulls that will no doubt turn big weaning weights into cash.

The very first “French Attack” calf crop we raised a bull called “Shazam”, who unfortunately was injured prior to the sale, and we were forced to pull him. I guess it ended up being fate, as his first calf crop he produced “Sheamus” who you’ve seen his influence in the catalogue already. “Frontier” is a full brother to “Shazam”, and certainly a bull who could have his own impact on the breed. This is a bull who you really have to appreciate his structural soundness, his muscle pattern, his thick hair coat, all topped off in a dark red polled package. Certainly another of the pen favorites this year. I have stated more than once in our entire cow herd, his dam “Jezebel” is my personal favorite cow. I have also stated I feel “French Attack” is the best bull we have ever owned. I don’t know if I can endorse “Belmont” more than that. Not much more can really or needs to be said. Not as many “French Attack” sons in this year’s offering, as we finally got a string of heifer calves from him. “Lithium” does have a little extra white but be sure to study this bull close as he is a dandy. He was a standout right from birth, and still completely looks the part.

This is a big broad topped, deep soggy made bull that will produce a wicked set of steer calves. If I could offer free advice for anyone with a set of straight angus cows, red or black this bull would be a dynamite cross on them. This bull is all meat no potatoes and as good as they come.

“Lakota” just so happens to be a full brother to “Gibraltar” who was one of our high selling bulls a few years ago, selling to DJ Farms in Ontario. This bull made quite a splash this fall in their production sale producing an absolutely outstanding set of females that were highly sought after. His semen on the market has also created quite a buzz. Each year as calving progresses, and we tend to get to the back end of the cows, our birth weights increase, as those cows don’t get enough exercise as they get locked in smaller space and simply spend time at the bunk. Regardless his dam just plopped down and had “Lakota” with no issues and we actually weighed him twice as we thought that can’t be right, but it was. I guess end story is know that these bigger birth weight bulls have a harder task making the pen simply because we know many people aren’t even going to look at them, so they have to be good. Do yourself a favor, you’re going to save a few dollars and be able to purchase one from one of the most proven crosses we have. For dollars invested this will be a tremendous buy.

Opposite of the last bull, the first calves always tend to be lighter at birth as those cows are still out getting proper exercise as we are forcing them to walk a mile a day every day for feed and back to water. It’s not every day you get a low birth weight bull like this that ends up being one of the powerhouses in the pen, but then on top of that he’s just damn good too. This is a bull anyone can use on any type of cow. He is a power bull in one powerful package.

“Lannigan” comes from one of the mainstay solid producing cows, who we sold to our friend Anthony Delany, Pacific Cattle Co in Australia. This cow obviously lives here, so all her calves go through the sale as she is on shares. This old cow does not miss a beat and has offspring working for Gra-Tan Ranch, Virginia Ranch, Brian Mardy, Peace View Colony, Waterton Colony, Waldron Farm, Tom Jackson & Dobbie Simmentals. In her time only two never made the sale pen, a heifer that came up open and we lost one with scours. This cow can getter done, and I feel as though “Lannigan” will too. A very nice bull.

“Kuranda” is a dark red, heavily pigmented bull from a nice young cow Mackenzie purchased from Skywest Simmentals. She retained a full sister to him for herself last year, and she appears as though she will become a very good cow. This is a bull with a really big hip, lots of length, and has great foot structure. He has really started to develop nicely since about mid-November, he has begun to make a big move. A very typical “Bowman” in his laid back nature, thick and easy fleshing, with a moderate birth weight.

Another of Garren’s bulls from his “Abby” cow. She has been a steady producer for him over the years, and for a “B” model cow I dare you to find a better uddered individual in the herd. “Lotto” is a bull that should live up to his name, because when you market his calves it should be like hitting the jackpot. Our herd is very maternally bred anyways, but this is another bull I would highly encourage keeping lots of daughters off of, and not to worry about sacrificing the big weaning weights on his steer calves. He will be stacked from top to bottom, and they will just be darn good.

A few years ago “Ozark” was our high selling bull, going to Wolfe Farms & Silver Lake Farms, and the dam of “Lotus” just so happens to be a full sister. The grand dam “Adel” was a steady producer with offspring selling to Reiny Weeks, Croft Creek Ranch, Graff Simmentals, Madge Simmentals, Champ Simmentals & Walcoalty Enterprises in addition to “Ozark”. “Yellowjacket” has been a family favorite right from birth. He comes from Mackenzie’s “Tinkerbell” cow, who simply never has a bad day.

This is a cow that gets picked out by pretty well everyone when they come tour, as she always looks the part, but more importantly she delivers time and time again. “Yellowjacket” will be an extremely easy keeping, easy fleshing bull, that will sire thick soggy made calves that will push down extra hard on the scale. “Langley” is a bull that always fools me, you don’t realize how big he is until you get him in and work with him. This is a bull with extra growth and performance, and comes from a bigger framed cow Mackenzie purchased from Langer Fleckvieh. “Langley” is a bull that should add a bit of frame, power and performance to a set of calves. “Lucas” stems back to another great cow family. His grand dam produced Lot #11, and as mentioned in his footnotes she has only ever had two other bull calves, both making it into Purebred herds.

“Lucas” is a bit more moderate in frame, and extremely stout made. He should be a very easy keeper, and as a baby you could tell he had that herd bull look. He strutted around bold and proud and had presence about him. I think this will be another bull that can work for pretty well everyone on a wide variety of cows and being able to stamp his calves very similar. This is a bull that will add consistency to a herd.

“Calipso” is a little brother to one of last year’s feature bulls in “One More Reason” who sold to Double Bar D Farms. He is a plainer marked bull so not the big flashy guy who is the first to be found in the pen, but certainly a bull that once you find him and analyze him, he’s pretty tough not to like. His dam was a larger framed cow that was as well of put together of female as you could find. Unfortunately she came in open this fall, but left behind a great bull to end her career on. This is a bull that you won’t have to break the piggy bank to own, but he will cause you to have to buy a new one anyways with the extra dollars he will generate.

Last year one of our feature “Bowman” sons was a full brother to “Ginseng” selling to Jim Ford. This is a younger version, as he is one of the youngest bulls in this year’s pen. He is built like a tank.

Deep bodied thick made bull who comes in a dark red package, tremendous foot structure and appears to be the type of bull that will be extremely easy keeping. “Chungo” is just the second calf from “Jane” who spanked it out of the park on her first calf, selling for $24,000 this fall. Yes he is a little smaller than the group as he is a younger calf, and once again won’t be a year old until after the sale, but there is a lot of upside to this bull. “Chungo” certainly has a different twist in pedigree as there are very limited numbers of “Jungle” cattle in Canada. His grand dam is none other than “Tyra”, and from what we see of the “Bowman’s” to this point indicate deep bodied easy keeping cattle with tremendous disposition. This will be a fun bull to watch mature.

“Kasper” is a more moderate refined bull. He is a bull that intrigues me in the fact he is very low birth weight and built very much like a calving ease bull, but has a pedigree that boasts performance.

This could be an absolute diamond in the rough as I feel he will be a calving ease bull, but there could be so much more performance and growth to his calves once they hit the ground. I’ve always stated one of the toughest jobs is to find that calving ease bull with the extra jam and performance we ask for. This bull could very well be the bull that delivers it all.

“Lincoln” boasts a very different pedigree for us. The “Fort Knox” cattle we have in production we like very much. We don’t have huge numbers of “Windsurfer” daughters in production, but the ones we do have are exceptional. The bottom of this pedigree is complete out cross for us as the grand dam was the result of an embryo that came to Canada from Buzzard Hollow Ranch in Texas. The “Zulu” cattle we seen were phenomenal, and the “Paragon 63C” cow is a female we tried to buy as a bred heifer but were fortunate to acquire a few embryos from her. This is probably the sleeper of this sire group as I expect him to do some really great things. Perhaps a little slower out of the gate but he will finish the race hard.

A very nice “Knox” son, and going back to the “Image 21J” cow family again. It’s highly unfortunate that “21J” never went into the donor pen, as you can see the large influence that cow had in our herd.

As mentioned earlier the “Olivia 320Z” cow who is the great, great grandmother was a cow who just delivered time and time again. This pedigree is absolutely stacked from one end to the other. Just have a look at “Salizar” Lot #12, who comes directly from the grandmother.

Everything reads right on this bull, as he will go on and produce some outstanding progeny in his time.

Without hesitation I tell you this is my pick of the “Fort Knox” sire group. This bull has style and eye appeal, but is also thick and meaty, incredibly long bodied, smooth made, and smooth polled. Last year this young cow produced an outstanding “Creed” son who no doubt would have demanded much attention, but was forced to be pulled from the sale. To this point this young cow has only produced bull calves with the first two selling to Craigmyle Colony & Aaron Olson.

“Lexington” is the second youngest bull in this year’s sale. Note the performance on this March calf who will just be 11 months old come sale day. His dam has been a knock out producer for us over the years, boasting several high sellers herself, and still as sound as they come at age 14 years of age. Our biggest regret with her was only ever retaining one daughter for ourselves. In her 12 calves absolutely everyone has made it into the keeper pen. Pretty impressive track record. She also always calved near the front of calving season with two exceptions, when we had a bull who ended up not working, and this guy. Interestingly enough both times she fired right back and bred back for January again. Longevity, fertility, and production, this is a young bull who deserves a big look, and would cost a lot more later on in sale season.

“Logan” is the first of the “Ulysses” sons to sell, and this will be his last calf crop for us, as he now resides at Starwest Farms. “Logan” is very typical for this sire group in that he is super broad topped, deep sided and will be extremely easy fleshing and easy keeping. “Lethbridge” comes from a larger framed power cow we purchased from Rocking R. We are really happy with the job “Bowman” has done in adding thickness and ease of fleshing, and seems to excel on these larger framed type of females. “Lansdowne” comes from an exceptional young female, who is quickly moving up the ranks in the cow herd. This is just her third calf with her other two selling to D9 Simmentals & Undone Ranch. A real long bodied smooth made bull here in “Ludlow”. I had mentioned earlier we don’t have an overabundance of these “Windsurfer” daughters around, but the ones we have are super good. Combine that with a shot of “Razzmatazz” on the bottom, and you have a fine blended pedigree that just works. “Ludlow” will be a bull that will just continually grow on you. He is just really starting to come into his own now, as we are picture taking and cataloguing. This would be my personal pick in the “Ulysses” sire group. “Lysses” is a chip off the old block, built very similar, really about the only difference is color. I love how this bull is developing. This will be our first calf crop from “Yellowstone”. We had such great reports from our customers with our “Maximus” sons, and we felt we had enough years off from him, perhaps we should re-introduce him back into our program. We were able to acquire a flush in Texas from the “Lady Keona” cow, a direct “Siegfried” daughter, and really felt this would provide a different element to pedigree. We are very happy with the job he did for us and we think you will like the small sample of his sons in this year’s sale. “Laharum” is a middle of the road bull that will just be as honest as the day is long. A bull that will work well on a broad spectrum of cows, put his stamp on them but not be extreme in any direction. For dollars invested this will be a very nice purchase.

If you are looking to create some replacement females this will be a bull to have very high on your list. Every year we choose the untouchable female, and this was Karen’s pick of the heifers. She is a granddaughter of our old “Cher” cow and we actually had 5 full sisters in the herd from her and “Razzmatazz” and every one of them was good. We flushed her in her final year this same way trying to produce a few more daughters. “Frasier” is a super stout made bull, who comes from one of the most picture perfect cows on the place, “Anna Maria”. This is a female who gets noticed by many and truly is a front pasture type female. It certainly doesn’t hurt that she is a direct daughter of “Tyra”, but don’t take anything away from her on her own. One of the unfortunate parts of having a sale this early is that some of these younger bulls are a little underappreciated. I think this bull is very appropriately named, as he truly will be a weapon in your bull battery. I think this youngster has so much potential, and will do wonders. There is no doubt in my mind this will be one of the sleepers in this year’s sale. “Lyster” is from a beautiful second calving female, who raised a set of twins as a first calver. A very big ask, so she didn’t have an easy go in her first year. She did breed back a little later, but the key is she did breed back, and did a decent job on this young bull while still developing herself. Now coming with her third calf she has gained time, looks right on par with his contemporary group. I think it speaks volumes to the fertility she has, and how well this young bull has done with all things considered. As I stated this will likely be one of the sale sleepers. A pretty darn good bull who will just continue to get better and better as he develops.

“Lyndon” is the youngest bull in this year’s offering. We had considered holding him just due to his age, but the performance this young bull has and how he’s been keeping pace with the pack we felt he deserved to be in. Note his birth date, as he truly is just a baby. Now considering many of these bulls won’t go out until May, June or July this guy will have more than enough size and growth to do the job. I would say this guy would love to find a home with someone who has a set of straight Angus cows. He will give you a little extra chrome to cash in on the Simmental advantage, but as I said just look at this guy’s growth pattern. He is the real deal, a true stud in the making.

“Hizenburg” is another complete knockout. We only have the two “Reputation” sons in the sale this year, but they are both pretty special. Regardless if your program is marketing your steer calves directly off the cow, back grounding or finishing, “Hizenburg” will be a bull that will raise those heavy weight steer calves time and time again. I know the birth weight will deter some. Truthfully if our cows can’t have a calf this size on their own we don’t want them around. I don’t foresee him throwing monster calves. I’m certainly not encouraging you to put him on your heifers or second calvers, but on a set of mature calves you shouldn’t see any issues only benefits. A performance bull that you will reap huge rewards from.

“Trump Card” is a Polled bull from our first calf crop from “Sarge”.

This is a bull who is moderately made with huge hip shape, deep bodied, broad topped, and possesses an awesome hair coat, and comes in a polled package. With all our new herd bulls they get a wide variety of females to work on to see where they excel. We only have the two sons this year as we were heifer heavy, and both these young bulls come from second calvers, so I think there may be a little more performance there than what meets the eye. Most of the time there is a back story behind some of the different names on some of the bull calves. When sorting cows up this spring, the dam of this bull was originally slated to be in a different sire group. When this guy strolled by as a baby we had a “Second Thought” and decided she should go back in the same pen. This bull is very similar in stature to his sire. “Sarge” is probably the most extreme bull we have in our sire group. He has such a huge hip, and is as wide topped as they come. He isn’t as deep as some of the other bulls but we felt a polled bull with much muscle shape we would use him on some of the extremely deep bodied cows and this cross should be great. The dam of “Second Thought” is a little more refined, as is the bull himself. This is a bull who possesses great length, and is very smooth made. He should be a bull that calves quite well and will provide that extra muscling. Have a second look at “Second Thought”.

We used “Barbossa” with huge success on our heifers for years, and now with a limited semen bank on him we are very selective on the females that get bred that way. “Barbossa” himself never really produced a set of bulls that just blew you away, they are good honest calving ease bulls. His value was in the calving aspect, but then further to that is the daughters he produced and what their production record have been. More often than not, several of the front end bulls have been from a “Barbossa” dam. “Zinger” comes from a tremendous young cow backed by a great cow family. Oh man do I love the dam of this bull. As I mentioned it was a select few that got bred this way, and this is certainly a female I have huge expectations for. You can’t draw a better picture of one, she is an ideal looking female, backed by a rock star cow family. I mentioned on lot #24 that “Jezebel” is my favorite cow on the whole farm. This is the same basic genetic make up to come up with that cow. Do I expect big things from this bull? Yes I certainly do. Please note “Tacoma’s” dam is from our fall calving program, and we did breed a few of these extra aged heifers this way to hopefully get a little more punch. “Luongo” has a similar story to the last bull, in the fact that he comes from an off aged heifer so she certainly had a lot more size and power, and we were hoping to achieve added growth and performance in the resulting calf….success. In all the years of raising “Barbossa” calves we have never had a son of his remind me so much of the bull himself. Other than facial markings this bull is so similar, and if he turns out to be half as good he will be a bell ringer. This is a bull I would certainly not hesitate to use on my heifers, and expect more than just a calf. Another bull backed by a heifer I feel is pretty special with a great cow family behind her.

“Lawler” comes from a fabulous young cow that Mackenzie showed as a heifer calf and as a bred. This is a beautiful young female that boasts performance, style, and pedigree. She is a dark red cow with extra pigmentation, and is extremely thick and very easy keeping.

“Lawler” is going to develop into a pretty special young bull. I think there is a ton of future for him, and will be a bull that certainly gives you more than you are asking for. “Lexxon” will complete the Fullblood section, and he is a pretty cool bull to wrap up with. He is the lone “Radioactive” son, as we now use him simply through AI. Several of the sale heifers were bred to him so our numbers were very limited. “Lexxon” is a bull with a degree of calving ease, who could be used on bigger more developed heifers, second calvers or certainly cows, as this bull does have just that much more performance as well. We now have several “Radioactive” daughters in production and they are awesome. Very mellow dispositions, moderate and easy keeping, lots of hair and perfect udders. This is a bull that will work in every situation and comes in a polled package. If you don’t like him then you probably don’t like home cooking either.

Purebred Division We expanded our Purebred division about 20 years ago, when we branched out on our own from a joint bull sale. Over the past few years we have really felt we have taken it to the point where we were ready for the next step. One key to that was with the purchase of “El Dorado” last year, who we are very anxious to have his sons in next year sale, as well as a few key females added to build around. Because of the smaller numbers in this section we have relied a bit more on AI rather than walking bulls to add enough diversity. We have stayed very focused on the same aspects in this division as our Fleckvieh cattle focusing on the strengths of cow families and structural soundness. This spring we will breed about 100 Purebred females, with about 2/3 red & 1/3 black.

This is a very nice pair of bulls. “Lindel” was raised naturally on his own dam, and “Lithgow” was fostered onto a second calver. They come from a super nice cow we purchased from Oakview Simmentals in Manitoba, and she just happens to be the grand dam of Lot #76 as well as Lot #82. This is a very easy keeping cow with a beautiful udder and a super disposition. She has been extremely productive for us over the years, and her daughters have been retained for our own herd and her two sons sold to date have both went to purebred herds, Homestead T Simmentals & Stone Simmentals. She was shown as a calf which certainly contributes to her gentle nature, she is as picture perfect as they come, and is backed by an outstanding cow family. Her dam has the distinct honor of being the oldest female on the farm this year at age 15, and is looking great, and gave us another really nice calf last year. I see such a bright future for this bull, and really think the new owner is going to be more and more impressed with him each and every day. A bull that will bring in a big set of calves in the fall, add longevity, udder and foot quality, great hair and body type. Everything is right with this “Lazarus”.

“Layton” comes from a really nice young cow, that sure looks to be a cow with a bright future. You will notice a few of these purebred bulls that come from “Excalibur” daughters. He is a bull we used with great success, and just due to our smaller purebred numbers we have a quicker turnover rate on these bulls to try and keep new genetics for our customers. “Laredo” isn’t the biggest bull in the pen, nor is he bred to be. He is however the bull that is bred to be perhaps one of the easiest keepers.

“Leroy” is just a youngster, basically a March calf. His dam has been very productive for us over the years, same as his grandmother. Both of these cows have added several sale bulls into the sale over the years. “Landen” is another bull who will not have an adjusted yearling weight just due to his young age. This March calf comes from another of our highly productive Red cows. “Black Magic” is a really thick made bull. He comes from a female that has been very productive for us over the years, and has produced a couple of heifers that have made the show circuit as well. He is the lone “Ballistics” son in the sale. He is a bull we seen at Silver Smith Farms as a yearling when we were on the hunt for a red bull, and this black monster appeared around the corner. Maureen & Eric wanted to retain him for themselves but were kind enough to sell us a semen interest. If you ask me who my favorite black cow on the farm is I will answer with no hesitation “Brock”. I feel she is one of the top cows in the entire herd. Nothing you would change about her. If you want a second opinion ask Darryl Snider, he will know exactly which cow you’re asking about. When I did the Wilson dispersal I was more than impressed with the “Untouchable” cattle, what a nice sire group as a whole. We were fortunate enough to acquire some semen on this bull as there is a limited supply on him. “Black Market” is the real deal. He comes from great lineage on both sides, and not an abundance of these genetics out there. Pretty nice bull that will put you on the market.

This bull is without question a family favorite. “Rancher” has a back story. He was a standout at birth and then at about 2 1/2 months old he just slowed right down. His recip dam ended up very sick and dried up. We had a very nice cow who had just lost a calf and we thought we have nothing to lose at this point he won’t make a bull if he doesn’t get a mom. With some luck, a cooperative cow and a lot of patience (mostly Karen’s) a match was made and are we ever glad. This is a standout bull, who caught right back up. He is virtually flawless, and with the extra work he saw in the spring he has become a flower sniffer. He was always quiet, but that was the icing on the cake.

End of the day, he’s an awesome bull, with an awesome pedigree, looking for an awesome new home.

Well where to begin with “Lebron”. He is a bull who certainly has a different pedigree. He is a ¼ Fleckvieh, going back to two of our donor cows on the bottom side in “Precious Thing & Painted Smile”. Then you look at the bulls on the bottom side in “Liner & Barbossa”. These aren’t genetic crosses you see every day so he does certainly provide a very unique pedigree. He is the lone “Wilson” in this year’s sale.

We purchased “Wilson” as a calving ease bull, which he has fulfilled that job. His calves started off quite small, but came on strong. We honestly should have kept a few more. Look to “Lebron” to offer that extra calving ease, but also appreciate the muscle shape he has. He is a bull that offers so much more. I personally don’t think “Lebron” is the greatest of all time, but in the calving pen he has a shot.

Charolais Division This is our third year of selling Charolais bulls, and this is our biggest group we have offered. I have stated before if we were to turn back time and start over in the Simmental Breed I would go out and find an established herd of cows and try to select a core group from there. We were very fortunate in when we made the step into the Charolais program as that is essentially what we were able to do. A huge thank you to Bob Burla for allowing us this opportunity and to have such a fantastic working relationship with him.

As far as the cows themselves we tried to focus on proven production records and cow families, so yes this is a new program for us, however you are buying into a longtime established program, which has made our job much easier as a lot of guess work, culling and selection process has already been done. We feel very confident in marketing this program, as yes its three years old to us, but it’s been years in the making. In addition I was fortunate enough to have helped market several of the brothers to these cows over the past several years so we had a pretty solid grasp of this cow herd before they ever became a part of our program.

Another special shout out to Doug Moore, who really deserves as much credit in this venture as anyone. Back in the late 90’s I was honored to be chosen to be the auctioneer for Moore Charolais bull sale. This was a reputable breeding program that combined good cattle with good people. Their set of bulls always impressed me, and was a favorite sale of mine each spring. There was a herd bull by the name of “Cougarhill Hank” that blew me away, and I was always impressed with his sons every year. When the Moore herd was dispersed I said to Karen then (in 2001) we should go buy that bull. I’m not a little kid anymore, but living out a dream, as we will be selling our very first “Hank” sons in this year’s sale. We feel this is a very honest set of bulls that will complement our Simmental program, buy with confidence.

He has that herd bull look and is always profiling. I’d love to tell you every animal we own is perfect, but we all know that’s not the case. I would love to add a bit more depth of heel to his dam’s foot, and I think the cross with “Defender” will do just that. He is a big footed bull with great depth of heel. “Ajax” is a bull that will mature and have good size, power, length, width and muscle. I do think he is extremely complete and as he matures will be a fan favorite that will be hard to fault.

“Luxor” is very much a bull I would call a calving ease bull. Our vision for our Charolais program was to produce power bulls. Having said that we still need to add females in the program and have the bulls to use on them. I’ve always said one of the toughest jobs is to find that calving ease bull. We naturally gravitate to the power bulls in the pen. Well “Luxor” comes from a first calving heifer but I do feel he has more to offer than just a calving ease bull. “Letang” is a very solid made bull. When we had the opportunity to assemble this group of Charolais cows, we used much of the same philosophy and tried to focus on productive cow families. “Laramie” is another very young bull. His dam is a beautiful female, tracing back to the “24W” cow family. As I had mentioned earlier when we selected the Charolais cows we really tried to focus on proven production records and cow families. This is another cow family that will have some influence in our program. Yes our Charolais program is new to us, however it is an old established breeding herd for the most part with a new name. This is a bull that will be a big performance bull. Keep in mind these bulls are all fed in the same pen so these younger bulls are forced to belly up to the bar and compete. It may not be ideal as we should have them sorted into smaller groups but it is what it is. This is a bull that you will love as a two year old for sure.

When we selected this group of cows we were going for big powerful performance cows. Last year the dam of this bull popped out a smasher that sold to Lane Purdie. I liked the calf when he hit the ground, so much so we made sure we bred her back the same way.

To me this is what the Charolais business is about. Big powerful performance cattle that will excel in the sale ring and the feedlot. I am a huge fan of “True North”. This bull has power, but is still built to calve and has lots of eye appeal. Absolutely a knock out in my opinion.

“Lancaster” comes from a deep bodied, broody “Bullhorn” female. We have a few of his daughters in our program. They are easy keeping cows with ample milk, very angular broad topped and broody.

“Lancaster” will be a bull that kind of suits anyone’s program. Enough performance to still add extra pounds, but a very workable birth weight, very smooth fronted to offer enough added calving ease probably reflected on the bottom side through “Bluegrass”. This is just a very useful bull that will work on any type of cow and do a great job.

“Buff” is the only buckskin bull we have on offer. This is a larger framed bull that will add size, length and power. We did sell a full brother to him in last year’s sale selling to Simpson Cattle Co. The long wait is over, our first “Hank” to hit the ring. As I had mentioned in the write up on our Charolais division, “Cougarhill Hank” is probably the bull that drew me to have so much appreciation for the breed. I’m really impressed with the job this first calver did. “Lemar” is a bull that will combine calving ease with added power. I am personally a bit greedy when it comes to our heifer bulls, I don’t want just a calf, I expect a calf that stands in the pack. There is no reason they can’t do it. “Lemar” is the type of bull that I feel offers “more”. Sure weaning and yearling weights are a bit smaller that the group, but this is a calf that hit the bunk and kept right on pace. His dam appears to be developing into a nice young cow that has enough substance and size to her. There is a lot of future in this bull.

“Horizon” is a bull who won’t quite be a year old sale day. We had AI’d his dam and she didn’t stick, however the mating to “Vision” is quite good. This is another cow that we sourced, and now have 3 daughters in our herd as well, so I think there is strength in this cow family.

Herself and her 3 daughters are all larger framed buckskin cows, that possess extra length of body, are very smooth fronted and have great neck extension. This also leads me to believe that “Horizon” will be a true calving ease bull, but he also carries that extra punch of power and performance. Look into the “Horizon” as this bull will be a versatile bull that can work in any situation.

The youngest of the “Vision” calves. We used “Vision” as the cleanup bull as well as in the heifer pen. We felt that this gave us an opportunity to combine the calving ease with power on these younger bulls, and appreciate that those of you breeding later that may be a bit more in line with what you are looking for. “Vision” comes from a big framed power cow. She is a true gentle giant, that can certainly get the job done. She had a younger bull in last year’s sale selling to Kevin Ball, very similar type of bull and age.

This is a bull that should really develop quite nicely and he will be a very impressive mature bull. He is a bull that no doubt would cost a lot more with another month’s age on him. Be sure to have a good look at him.

“Double Duty” seemed like a very appropriate name as we feel this bull could work in either the heifer pen or cow pen. He is extremely long bodied and smooth built, great shoulder set, and I really like how this bull can get out and travel. This is a bull that will cover a lot of ground. I feel really confident in pitching “Force” as a calving ease bull. His sire is a bull that Bob used in his program with much success as a calving ease bull, combined with “Defender” who we have also used on a handful of select heifers. His dam is a more moderate made female, very deep bodied broad and broody. We have a couple cows in our program from their dam and they are very similar in stature and make up. Very easy keeping and built right. “Force” is a bull that will calve incredibly well, and leave you an outstanding set of calves in the process.

We do tend to have more calving ease sires in our Charolais than we anticipated, but with more first calvers in the mix we did breed them that way. This will be the first calf crop of “Jake” calves and he certainly calved very well for us. If you want a bomb proof option on some heifers I really feel this is a solid choice. We are calving a small sample of commercial heifers this year bred Charolais, that we purchased from the Anderson Bred Heifer sale, and they are calving great, and having a nice set of buckskin calves. “Big Jake” is not bred to be a big bull, he is a bull that should remain somewhat moderate and be a bull that will last for a long time in the heifer pen if that’s where you choose to use him. The options are open, the outcome the same.

“Titanium x Defender” off of a first calving heifer, yes another very legit heifer bull candidate. These final 3 bulls are all from first calving heifers we ended up getting from Bob Burla. He used “Titanium” on the bulk of his heifers, and boy did he calve great for us. Calves were born small, had tons of vigor, were up and going in no time flat. Yes you will sacrifice some performance, but also keep in mind from first calvers, there is likely a little more there than meets the eye. End of the day a very structurally correct bull that will do a good job for you.

Very similar story to the last bull, “Titanium x Force” is back to back calving ease. This is a bull that we feel very confident in as well as a solid choice for use on heifers or young cows. He is a bull that will “get them ready for the real world”. He comes from a very nice young cow. We had both her dam and granddam in our program however we unfortunately lost the 57G cow on pasture last year. The granddam “4B” however is going strong and looks close to calving at the time we are working on catalogue. A powerful broody cow with tons of rib shape and muscle expression. “Titanium” is a bull that will do a nice job as a calving ease bull but can quite comfortably be moved up into the performance pen when the time calls.

A carbon copy of Lot #122 both in type and pedigree. This is a bull that is bred to calve extremely well. As you can see we tried to group the calving ease bulls together in somewhat of a section. These “Titanium” bulls will be virtually bomb proof in my opinion. Moderate frame with lots of thickness, shape and hair. A nice combination to use as a calving ease option.

We are pleased to offer the commercial heifers from my parents once again this year. The past several years they decided to cut back and no longer retain females, so this is essentially the cream of the crop. Not huge in numbers but high in quality. This year’s heifers will be sired by Whiskey, or Matador and will be the ½ or full sisters to the heifers sold in the past sales.

We did not clip the heifers for the catalogue just due to time restraints and trying to make catalogue deadline. The pictures you see will be sisters from 2 years ago, however as mentioned they will be the same for the most part as previous years. The cows run with ours so the health protocol is exactly the same as the bulls, and we will palpate the heifers prior to the sale to ensure breeding soundness. Buy with confidence as these heifers have been culled as though they would be retained for themselves.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable in Canadian Funds at par immediately following the sale. The right of owenrship shall not pass until after settlement is made. All settlements must be made before any livestock will be released.

Delivery Options: A Delivery will be made to purchasers in central regions in Western Canada, at the convenience of Anchor D Ranch, and buyer’s risk. Any bulls going to Eastern Canada or other areas Anchor D Ranch will arrange for trucking at cost.

B Bulls can be left free of charge until April 1, 2024, after April 1 a fee of $4.00/ day will be charged per head. Cattle are then asked to be picked up by the purchaser, and Anchor D Ranch asks that all bulls left, to be insured.

C $100.00 Discount on any bull picked up sale day.

Certificate of Registry: After settlement has been made the buyer will be provided with the proper registration papers, duly transferred on the record of the Canadian Simmental Association. Further transfer to the herd books of other countries shall be at the buyers expense.

Fleckvieh Status: Full Fleckvieh Fullblood will have a minimum of 5 generations in their pedigree all back to Germany or Austria. It is recommended if further research is required to check with the Canadian Simmental Association, and no assumption of Fleckvieh heritage will be guaranteed by neither consignor or the CSA Breeders Gurarantee: Standard terms set forth by the Canadian Simmental

Association, with the exception where any animal is subject to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void.

Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sales staff, auctioneer or Anchor D Ranch or consignors assumes any responsibility in the matter and disclaims any liability, legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss or property.

Fertility & Health: All bulls have been under a full herd health program, under the guidance of Gull Lake Veterinary Services. All bulls will be fertility tested prior to the sale. Should you have any questions please give us a call.
