New for this year the Futures One cattle will sell by live auction in conjunction with the Sim Solution group. This partnership will make Carson’s Sale Barn in Listowel the place for Simmental camaraderie on October 7th.

The great programs of Destiny Simmentals, Jetstream Livestock, Cedar Creek Simmentals, Keystone Livestock and TWF Livestock are like minded people that annually come together to offer the best their programs have to offer. They all have a similar goal in their breeding philosophies by raising sound made, functional cattle with heavy emphasis on maternal qualities. These cattle on offer are right for the times and will go on to be cornerstone females in their new operations. The bull calf on offer is an exciting future herdbull that possesses some of the most exciting and profitable genetics in the industry. He is an opportunity to get your bull shopping done early! The bred heifers on offer carry exciting matings that are bred for ROI. These future matrons are bred and built to make mama cows that annually bring in progeny for the keeper pen. The fancy calendar year heifer calves have their whole lives ahead of them and are a unique blend of cattle that can compete in a show ring setting, but ultimately will also become special cows to put into the herd that you can be proud of. Welcome to the 2023 Futures One Sale

On behalf of the families and crew at Destiny, Jetstream, Cedar Creek, Keystone and TWF we welcome you to the Futures One Sale – Edition 14. We are excited to be returning to a live sale and joining the Ontario Simmental Solution Sale day. Our 2023 offering is from the heart of our herds and your time to review the catalogue is appreciated in advance. We are passionate about the Simmental breed and excited to share the cattle you will find in the following pages.

The Jetstream offering is comprised of 8 solid bred heifers that are as strong a set as we have ever offered and three heifer calves from the top of the 2023 calf crop. The bred heifers are mated early to distinctive calving ease AI sires (RF No Limits, CDI Trustee, LCDR Favor and Schooley Standout) for added value and some excitement next year. All these heifers are sound structured, good footed and selected from productive cow families. We are confident these heifers will produce well and offer unanticipated value to your program. They are sociable heifers that we offer with confidence.

Jetstream has a joint ownership heifer with our good friends, Scott and Emily Matthews and girls. The Keystone Livestock herd although small in quantity, remains committed to quality and are a very enthusiastic family passionate about the breeds future. Lot 121 has been a 4H project for a keen junior and has been well appreciated and has already been collecting banners.

The Destiny presentation is 4 breds that are front pasture destined built from the grass up with power and longevity engineered into the pedigree. They are all AI bred and no exposures. Our partnership in Darlin 2.0 is highlighted with a rascal of a Reddington bull calf to add the Darlin influence on the paternal side to your program and a SAM daughter that will rock the world as a bred. The Darlin legacy started with a Futures One purchase and the opportunity to start a new legacy is available in this sale. The BOOTS heifer calf is a new pedigree we introduced several years ago and gives you an opportunity to participate in this bloodline’s showring success. The pick of the calves next summer from Bombshell by SAM is a lock in to get a great one. All cattle have been halter tied at a minimum and several have attended local shows.

Our new entrant for Travis and Jessica Fulford is no stranger to the Simmental breed as the herdsmen at Destiny. Their lead off bred will fit into any program and is only offered as their best for their first time out. The heifer calf is a progeny from a previous Futures purchase to showcase how Futures cattle can produce front end opportunities.

The Cedar Creek offering consists of three of our very best heifer calves this year. Highlighting the group will be two daughters of SVS Rancher, including a fancy embryo calf from the very popular Sage cow family. The calves are all halter broke for anyone looking for a head start on next year’s 4-H project.

Opportunity to be a part of the Darlin genetics that is one of the elite cows this breed has seen. The origin of Darlin came from a futures sale purchase by Juanita in Edition 6. When the heifer reached IRCC, Billie called to say that Juanita can buy heifers like her all day long as she was good. Multiple breeders have added their skill to develop these genetics forward with a powerful punch of multiple successes that are record setting. At Friday Night selling of Darlin 2.0, Billie called to remind me of the background Destiny genetics and that we need to partner in on her with him and BMS, Abby Hill and McRae. My comment to Billie was I would match whatever input he was comfortable with personally, and that was a sound investment for us to be a partner in this elite matriarch. The two calves on offer are from our embryo allocation.

A red SAM heifer that has the look to be a future donor. She is very wide based, expressive muscling, large eared, soft sided heifer on a good large foot with good bone density. A definite candidate for a halter and we would like to see the new owner show her yet this fall or we can assist at RAWF.

This is Travis’s pick of the sale. Travis knows well the cow family behind this Crosby daughter, and predictability to be a well uddered front end cow is proven. We expect her progeny from SAM to be very soft made with a power punch and tonnes of show ring presence to get to the top.

With SAM semen no longer available and the mating to Bombshell, this opportunity will be hard to duplicate. On offer will be the pick of the 3 calves to be born in Jan. Her dam, another Olympian, consistently performs and produced one that is very hard to part with as she could easily go back in our herd, to build on quality and add some outcross red genetics. Thanks to Gerry Bertholet and family at Maple Lake Stock Farm for the semen package opportunity on John Wayne after he sold in the iconic WLB dispersal sale. Whether safe to the AI or early exposure, I wouldn’t be disappointed with either as the King Kirk bull has been a real champ since arriving to Jetstream from Todd Simmentals in Quebec. He is living up to his name and we are excited for his calves to arrive in early 2024.

If you haven’t, you would have seen Laney’s sire SVS Rancher, Granddam WFL Sage 506C and a full genetic sister to Laney’s dam featured in the sale. 22L is the product of a flush on Cedar Creek Sage (full sib to SVS Dynasty) x SVS Rancher and embryos from this mating were purchased in the last Futures One sale by Robb Land and Cattle. Laney herself, who is Ashlyn’s 4-H heifer, is a dark red, long sided smooth made heifer who puts everything together. She gets it started with a nice head, sweeping rib and in the back end her teat size and placement are right where they need to be. She has a maternal sister at Dunraven’s and her mom has got an R Plus Mandate in the oven, better grab this opportunity because her sibs might be staying. Springcreek Denali adds in Heaven Sent and Liner 56U to create an impressive genetic profile in Denali Sheila. She was a 4-H project for our neighbour and is easy to work with. We had full intentions of growing our herd with this powerful and quiet female, but when Futures One group gave us the opportunity to be involved, we wanted to showcase a bred. This female is very flashy with lots of hair- for the ring this fall. She has lots of shape and is functionally sound. She is ready to make calves that hang banners. 102L being the first female we have sold, we wanted to bring one to town that truly demonstrates what our program is after. She is a progeny of my first purchase at Futures Edition 10 from Jetstream. 102L is deep bodied, smooth made and is as long as they come. She hits you with that catch your eye show look from her True North sire and is already halter broke. This female is going to grow into a big front pasture brood cow.

He is a son of the popular Witness sire out of Sugar C4, arguably the most influential cow in the breed today. She is also the dam of well known sires such as Proclamation, High Road, and Impact and her progeny and embryos are consistently the high sellers whenever offered. Favor himself is an attractive, sound, long made bull with a level hip and tailhead and still plenty of power. His EPDs put him near the top of most categories - WW and YW top 1%, API and TI top 1% - an impressive profile with solid accuracy for a young sire.

Futures One Sale Group Support of YCS

Involvement in the YCS is about showing cattle but it’s much deeper than the show ring attraction. As grandparents, parents and former participants, The Futures One Sale group feel that the YCS program offers life skills and opportunity to share similar dreams and goals with other youth from across the nation. Ag is diverse across provinces and regions within them and bringing the Simmental youth together creates opportunity to share comradery, fellowship, learning that often turns experiences into a “friends for life” result.

The Futures One Sales Group is proud to have been a Gold sponsor at the National Classic “Simmentals in Steeltown” in Ancaster, Ontario in conjunction with CSA AGM this past August. We would like to congratulate all the volunteers and YCSA participants for your participation in such a large event and caring for, displaying and presenting yourselves and your Simmental cattle at such a high level. You truly create a junior show atmosphere that is the envy of other breeds. Destiny Simmentals donated a raffle heifer to be auctioned off at the 2023 Friends of the Canadian Simmental Foundation. This wonderful donation raised $48,820 that will be used for youth development, education, research, scholarships and bursaries.

The winner of the heifer was Callaghan Toronchuk and it was exciting as he was a single $20 ticket purchaser. Seems so fitting that this young man won the heifer as the future of our breed is in the hands of our youth. “The most important lessons in helping the values grow strong, come from loving cattle and passing the tradition on”
