“Family is not an important thing. It’s everything.” -- Michael J. Fox

Our BMS Team is everything to us and we are fortunate to have this great group of professionals that make our company exceptionally strong throughout. We are proud of this team and how they are loyal, hard-working, knowledgeable, family driven and committed to serving our customers and putting their needs first. We have gelled together with the many days on the road travelling or alongside each other in the office, as we have each others backs at all times and that is an important bond that makes our group special. Much like a grain farmers harvest, when it is sale season for us it is “go time” and we acknowledge the hours away from family at home isn’t easy and also recognize the sacrifices to the spouses/children who miss us when we are away and appreciate your commitments. Putting the miles on the road and long hours in the office isn’t easy but there isn’t a team that we would rather do it with and from the bottom of our hearts we want to thank you all for your commitment to BMS, we truly think you are the best in the business!

The path to success begins with a strong first step, and this was certainly true for Jay and Beverly Bohrson when they took over Anchor B Limousin. At the start of a new era for this operation, the purchase of one stellar animal was exactly the right move, resulting in a cow family known for its strong bull calves.

Anchor B Limousin at Hanley, Saskatchewan was established by Martin and Donna Bohrson in the early days of the breed in Canada. When they dispersed their herd in 2011, their son Jay and his wife Beverly expanded their own herd and adopted the Anchor B name.

Martin and Donna’s final bull sale in March 2012 featured a standout yearling bull, Anchor B The Boss. Knowing this was the bull they could base their herd on, Jay and Beverly purchased The Boss as a key investment for their program.

“Anchor B The Boss was really our first bull we’ve ever gone out and purchased on our own without any partners,” said Jay.

“When we bought Anchor B The Boss, we wanted cattle that were easy doing, easy fleshing, lots of rib shape…and everything else we’re looking for.”

Out of this bull’s second calf crop came Anchor B Bailey 21B, the matriarch of the Bailey cow family. The Bohrsons showed this female as a calf and yearling heifer, and as she developed they saw her many strengths, and they weren’t the only ones who noticed.

“When we started promoting her as a bred heifer, we had a lot of people looking at her,” Jay recalled.

“She’s the type of female back then, 17 years ago now, where she just had a different look to her. She had more shape than most Limousin cattle around and definitely had so much easy-doingness that we had a lot of breeders in different breeds admiring her.”

With their focus on raising cattle with longevity, good performance data, and good production records, they knew they wanted to build their new program around this female. Their program has a strong emphasis on producing high-quality bulls for commercial buyers, and this is where Anchor B Bailey 21B truly shines.

Her first calf was sold to Stewart Limousin of Stettler, Alberta, and today her sons are used as herd sires in a number of Canadian programs in Canada, and semen sales to Australia and the United States have expanded her influence internationally.

The bull that stands out as a true highlight among her progeny—as well as a highlight in the entire history of this operation—was Anchor B Gold Rush 48G, who sold at their 2020 bull sale. Despite the sale nearly being cancelled that year due to the early days of the pandemic, the Bohrsons held it without any in-person buyers and sold Anchor B Gold Rush 48G for $60,000 to J. Yorga Farms of Flintoff, Sask. and partners.

“He’s by far the highest-selling bull we’ve had. He’s definitely been the most anticipated bull we’ve ever promoted,” said Jay. “It truly blew us away in terms of how much interest there was in that bull that year.”

It’s highlights like this that make the cow that started it all extra special for the Bohrson family. When you add in the fact that their children, Riley, Sienna, and Avery, have showed many of her natural calves through the 4-H program, it’s easy to see why this female is close to their hearts.

“Pretty much every calf she’s ever had, we’ve promoted one way or another, to the bull sale or kept for on-farm use for females.”

ANCHOR B BAILEY 21B Polled

When we first heard of the Family Matters Sale we wanted to do something exciting and we are very excited to offer this opportunity.  Anchor B Bailey 21B is the best cow in our program and has produced some of the best in the breed.   Over the years we have successfully shown Bailey and her progeny.  Some of her highlights include Anchor B Donaldson 34D sold to Stewart Limousin and was a mainstay of their operation for many years with many successful sons selling in the annual bull sale.  As well Anchor B Fallin In Love 25F who Riley shown with so much success in the spring/summer 2019 and capped her show season off with Grand Champion at CJLA 2019 in Saskatoon, SK.  However Bailey’s natural 2019 son was a true sensation, Anchor B Gold Rush 48G created a lot of interest at Agribition 2019 which carried through to the 2020 Bull Sale.  When the smoke cleared, Gold Rush sold for $60,000 to J Yorga Farms (SK), Treftz (US) and Summitt (AUS).  Not only was Gold Rush a true specimen, we feel that his calves are following in his type.  The first Gold Rush son, Anchor B Jack Daniels sold in 2022 for $30,000 to Stewart Limousin & partners.

Bailey is one of the deepest bodied, natural muscled, & easy doing females that you will find in the Limousin breed today. Her sire Anchor B “THE BOSS” left our program with a lot of outstanding females that are functional, sound and have longevity bred into them.

***SELLING 1/2 INTEREST AND POSSESSION NEGOTIABLE*** SELLS OPEN & READY TO FLUSH

If you’re in the Black Angus business, the phrase “That’s a Beauly cow’ has a particular meaning. It’s referring to a female with the unmistakable style and consistency that makes the Beauty cow family highly sought after.

To hear this phrase is a point of pride for Justin Morrison, who runs Brooking Angus Ranch at Radville, Saskatchewan, with his wife Tawnie. The couple has three children, Kordell, Kiefer, and Aleida, and they raise Black Angus seedstock, with around 250 calves born each year.

The objective of the Brooking program is to raise well-made cattle that produce well for other breeders, as many of their bulls sell to purebred operations. Among their females, there’s one type that is easily recognizable to producers who visit their herd: the Beauty females.

“We have three main families, and the majority of our cows would be the Beauty cows. Definitely a good chunk of the success we’ve had over the last ten years has been because of that cow family,” said Justin.

“They have the Beauty head, they have a really perfect udder, they’re well made, and stout but pretty.”

Before the Morrisons established their own herd in 2011, Justin was the manager of Soo Line Cattle Co., where he was first introduced to the Beauty cow family. When the Soo Line outfit dispersed, the Morrisons purchased one of these females, TLA Beauty 6R. This cow was the first donor to ever be flushed at Brooking and became a foundation female for their herd, with 90 progeny during her lifetime.

From this very first flush came Brooking Beauty 333, a hugely influential cow in their breeding program. A full sister to TLA Beauty 6R, TLA Beauty 5R, went on to produce the influential bull Soo Line Motive 9016.

“South of our yard, on top of the hill, we only have two animals buried on the farm here and one of them is the Soo Line Motive bull and the other one is that TLA Beauty 6R cow,” said Justin.

In every sale Brooking Angus Ranch has held to date, many of the feature animals are out of the Beauty cow family, with several high sellers that have made names for themselves in other herds. Last years two high selling females at $100,000 and $75,000 for half interest were both Beauty’s.

Another noteworthy calf of Brooking Beauty 333 is Brooking Mercury 9057, the high-selling bull of their 2020 sale. This bull was part of a flush that averaged more than $25,000 at the sale, which was a highlight for the Morrisons.

As well, they’ve sold many embryos out of Beauty 333, with the animals doing very well for other breeders. To date, she has 108 progeny.

“One thing about the Beauty cow family is that they consistently add value. There’s hardly a Beauty that’s ever sold for under $10,000,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter which way you breed them, they always seem to work, and they’re very recognizable… You can tell by looking at them that they’re a Beauty, just the way their head is and their udder quality. They have a distinct character and quality that consistently brings a premium for almost anyone that has them.” The prominence of this cow family is very meaningful to the Morrisons, especially considering how these females helped pay the bills when they were just starting out.

“If we didn’t own that original Beauty 6R cow, I don’t know exactly where we’d be at today,” said Justin. “That’s why that cow family does have a soft spot in our hearts To have such success with this first cow to be flushed, and then with her most famous daughter, is something they don’t take for granted.

“At the time you don’t realize the influence of what one cow, one mating, one decision can have for literally a decade and more,” he said.

Brooking Beauty 333 has earned a breed leading reputation for production and quality that is recognized around the world. On an individual appraisal Brooking Beauty 333 is a sight to behold and has an unbelievable amount of shape, dimension and is extremely easy fleshing. She has true Angus breed character and always transmits it to her progeny. Her progeny always has a type and quality that is consistent and recognizable. With many breeders describing her progeny as the Beauty kind. She has had many high selling progeny but her extremely repeatable quality is what sets her apart. Nothing speaks more volumes than facts. Brooking Beauty 333 has 108 progeny registered to date in Canada. Brooking Angus Ranch has sold 47 progeny to date for a gross of $822,000 for an avg of $17,489 per head. Her embryos and flushes sold have tallied $340,000. Brooking Beauty 333 total revenue for Brooking is $1,162,000. This total does not include any progeny sold for other breeders that have purchased embryos and/or sold in other programs. Brooking has retained 17 daughters in production, 14 yearling heifers in the replacement pasture and 9 calendar year calves. Brooking Beauty 333 has direct progeny in 5 countries. Almost never does a female that has produced over a million dollars in revenue become available for sale. Maybe they shouldn’t either. An incredible chance to become part of one of the breeds great cows. A once in a million opportunity.

TLA BEAUTY 6R

It’s one simple number said back to back to back and it means a lot in the Angus business… 333. It would be easy to say we have always admired Beauty 333, but of course, who hasn’t? It started with our love for Motive (out of the great Beauty 5R) and then we learned about Beauty 6R, and then 333 hit the scene and has been an incredible producer in her 10 years. She is now the top income producing cow at Brooking Angus Ranch and has solidified her place in Angus lore. We had always wanted the 333 influence and decided to focus on it by purchasing her embryos at NYR 2021 and AI’ing heavily to her son Mercury. The investment in 333 embryos was an exciting project with our friends at Arthur Polled Herefords and we are proud to showcase its results. Beauty 302 combines all of the Beauty qualities with the now legendary female maker Renovation. 302 is exactly what you would expect from this mating - broody, huge bodied, feminine, and with teat spacing and placement to make a dairyman jealous. There is simply no way that she is not a future donor. We are only marketing 302 as it is the agreement we made on the embryo partnership - that approach allows you this golden opportunity to put your program among the elite. AngusGS tested.

Lux 160L is a powerfully constructed, big bodied female that we think quite high of. Her ability to standout in a pen of Simmental contemporaries at a young age, we thought was unique and she has only gotten better with time. 39G is an awesome footed, perfect uddered, big bodied female; in our mind the ideal cow for us to build a small herd of Angus cattle around. We purchased her as the high seller from the great Rusylvia program in 2019. They had a lot of confidence in this female and cow family, as they purchased back a full sister to Lux 160L last fall in our Evolution female sale. Similar to 160L, she only got better with time and they plan to show her this coming fall. 160L herself is a big, square footed female with a powerful hip and body shape. She’s bold and dimensional all the way through and still reads with a quality look and balance throughout. Although our Angus calf crop isn’t huge, we are excited to offer our best this coming August.

Before the Cream Soda cow family made a significant impact on two Simmental programs in Saskatchewan, the matriarch herself went on quite the journey across North America, winning acclaim along the way.

HPF Cream Soda Y010, raised by Hudson Pines Farm in New York, headed north when she was purchased by Ontario’s Oattes Cattle. After a successful show career, including winning Grand Champion Simmental Female at the 2012 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair as a bred heifer, a group of breeders purchased a flush out of this female. This resulted in five heifer calves sold at the 2014 Friday Night Lights Sale, one of which, CMS Soda Pop 425B, was purchased by Black Gold Simmentals of Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan.

Investing in this female was an important step for Black Gold Simmentals, operated by brothers Randy and Neil Noble and their families. While their herd now consists of 370 head of purebred Simmental females, they originally had a Fleckvieh cow base. In the past decade, Randy’s sons Toby and Ryley began introducing new genetics into the herd to raise the quality of the cattle they produce and to become more competitive in the show ring.

“Our more recent push in the purebred Simmentals is something that we are pretty happy and excited about, and the Cream Soda cow family is definitely a big part of our red and black purebred cattle getting better over the past few years,” said Toby Noble.

CMS Soda Pop 425B brought that higher quality, as well as a national championship in 2017 and many other accolades.

“This cow family is pretty commonly known for its bold, big, powerful body shape, but they can combine that with a feminine, attractive look up front,” said Toby. “Structurally, these cattle have been really good.”

A few years later, the Oattes family offered up HPF Cream Soda Y010 for sale, and the Nobles partnered with Grass Roots Ranch and Bohrson Marketing Services to purchase this outstanding donor female.

For Rob and Kirstin Voice of Grass Roots Ranch, investing in this proven cow paid off in a big way. The couple were both raised in the cattle business and now run their own Simmental and Angus herd at Bradwell, Sask., on the farm where Rob grew up, and they have two young daughters.

While the Voices always plan to market females, selling bulls has become more of a priority for their business, and they aim to develop mutually beneficial, long-term relationships with their commercial customers by raising bulls that meet their needs.

Currently, Rob explained, they’ve “trying to be very practical with our cattle and trying to raise really good, sound, functional cattle without painting outside the lines too much…and definitely sticking with some proven bloodlines.”

Introducing Cream Soda genetics into their program did all of this and more.

“It’s a nice phenotype cow family in terms of how the cattle are built, and they’re animals that have a nice look to them and they’re sound,” said Rob, who was impressed by the power this cow puts into her calves.

Within the first year of selling her embryos, Grass Roots Ranch made back their investment. Today, they have many Cream Soda daughters in their herd, and they’ve also sold several of her daughters, which have gone on to become successful donor females in other programs.

“It helped our operation get our name out there a little bit more and have a strong cow family to build around,” Rob continued. “It’s definitely a cow family that’s near and dear to our hearts for so many reasons.”

Over at Black Gold, HPF Cream Soda Y010 has also had a major presence in their purebred breeding program, with numerous daughters and granddaughters in production.

Both families speak highly of how this cow family has changed their herds for the better and opened new doors for business.

“We talk about how one cow or cow family can really make the difference…That would have been the first cow family that really made a difference for our program,” said Rob. “It’s a special one that can change a program and put you on the map and raise your profile.”

The Nobles echo this sentiment, calling the cow family’s impact on their program extraordinary.

“When we bought Soda Pop herself, the daughter of Cream Soda, that was the first time we had ever stepped up and bought a purebred animal of her quality,” said Toby.

“She’s been really good on that side of generating income for us, but I think almost more importantly, the daughters and granddaughters that we have at home and how our purebred cow herd shaped around them…I think their impact in our cow herd will be never-ending.”

There was a lot of discussion over the decision to offer up half interest in undoubtedly, the most profitable and consistent donor that we have ever owned, Soda Pop 425B. 425B’s introduction to the industry came early, where she was a member of the “Soda Pop” flush that highlighted Friday Night Lights. Although the full sisters were highly sought after and flooded with quality, there was never a doubt who our pick was and who we would be bringing home. 425B herself had a very successful show career that started as a yearling heifer, and continued until she was a six year old cow. Her show record will always be tough to beat, with some of her more notable success being a 3X Champion at Stockade Round-Up, 3X Top 4 Supreme Finalist at Stockade, 2017 Champion at Farmfair, Top 5 Finalist in Alberta Supreme, 2017 National Champion Female at Agribition, 2019 Reserve National Champion at Agribition, and 2X Top Ten Finalist in Agribition’s Beef Supreme Challenge. We are beyond proud of 425B’s accomplishments on the tan bark, but her production record is really was solidified her as our best donor over the past five years. To date, we have tried to keep direct Soda Pop 425B progeny exclusive, as her six daughter’s sold here have averaged just shy of $34 000, and embryos as high as $3600/ embryo. As I write this, 425B is on her way to Yackley Ranches Trans Ova facility, and we will have an updated flush report on her by sale time. Her last time spent at Yackley’s she averaged over 16 embryos/aspiration and produced as much as 30 quality embryos with one flush. We still see a lot of future and quality left in this timeless donor, and we look forward to working with the new owner in the future. Soda Pop 425B’s impact on our herd is indescribable, and we feel her impact will be seen here for generations and years to come.

BREEDING | AI Bred to LCDR Favor 149F on April 19, 2023. PE to Adair Ranch Bootjack 335F from May 8 – June 5/2023.

One of the true elite donor cows to have graced the pasture at Czech-Mate Livestock. This cow is flat out special: with a genotype only matched by her outstanding phenotype. Soda Pop 918G is a cow that we are extremely proud to have raised, and that we have been very happy to keep tucked away to ourselves. However, when we were given the opportunity to represent what the Soda Pop cow family has done for our operation, we knew she’d be the perfect fit. 918G was a standout from early on, and continued to impress anyone that came by the farm right through until we sent her to Bohrson’s to prepare for the sale. With her CE and BW EPD’s both in the top 2% of the breed, its especially impressive how her calves have grown. Her first calf, a full sib to the heifer on offer alongside her dam, was an absolute standout of a mid-March bull calf. CMS Uprising 133J had an adjusted yearling weight of 1400 lbs., with an exceptional hair coat and spring of rib. He sold to Jon Rosland for $10,000 in that bull sale, and the longer he stuck around the farm the more we liked him until we bought half interest back in him to make him our walking heifer bull. The first calf crop out of him is on the ground this year, and every single one came easy, with unparalleled vigour once they hit the ground, and are very impressive on pasture. The heifer on side of 918G, CMS Soda Pop 315L, is typing her dam well as she grows and we truly believe she will become just as impressive as her dam and full brother.

Two years ago in FNL we said that it was only the beginning for HPF Cream Soda 248D and we still feel that way with her production record still being written. It’s hard to forget the outstanding four sisters to this beautiful heifer that headlined the 2021 Friday Night Lights sale, they only made us more excited to get our embryos in and on the ground. We lucked out and had all five of our embryos stick, resulting in two heifers and three bulls. All five are very similar in type and kind with structural integrity and overall balance being locked in with Capacity on the top side and the Soda family on the bottom. The Capacity daughters have paved their way proving to be easy fleshing, awesome uddered, strong footed with tons of depth and power. We wish we had more of them but it’s our own fault as we try to sell our best and the Capacity daughters are always at the top! 248D continues to add hair, extension and presence to her progeny with beauty dispositions. With consistency, volume and presence built in we should be keeping this one to build on an outstanding cow family but here’s your chance to add a Soda to start your story or to build on this awesome cow family. The embryos available from the 248D donor by Hannibal are ones we feel can serve as extremely profitable, the Hannibal progeny have been proven to come low birth and easy and show huge growth. Imagine getting a blaze faced 248D from this genetic combination? It would be lights out.

Here’s the first animal to sell out of the WF High Stakes bull we partnered up with Westman Farms to buy in the spring of 22. We liked a lot about the bull that day and he truly is an impressive individual in his second breeding season. The combination of Betts and Soda Pop 417B really came together and you’re going to hear a lot more from this bull in the coming years. The dam of 301L came to us out of the prestigious FNL sale from MAVV Farms. This Brooks daughter is a cherry red, big powerful, performance cow who seems to be on the right track early in her production years. 301L herself is loose hided, big hipped, quiet as a kitten and has that added extension through that front just like her daddy. We think the High Stakes bull is going to do great things for our program and here’s the first opportunity to get in on this promising young sire.

When we heard of the “Family Matters” sale, these two dynamite flush sisters came to the top of our mind right away. Their dam Grassroots Cream Soda 019 knocked it out of the park on her first flush like so many of the Cream Soda females do and will play a big role going forward in our program. We have 3 flush brothers to these heifers that will be at the forefront of our bull sale next spring. If you’re coming out to the Family Matters sale, these bulls would be well worth a visit to look at as you’ll really appreciate the power in the blood that 019 can produce. We couldn’t decide which heifer to part with, so we’ve decided to offer choice. These sisters have so much to offer the cattle industry; fantastic calving ease numbers, beautiful udder development while still having some power and grow. They have a little twist on the pedigree bringing in the great Rose and Annie K cow families. What a cool opportunity it is to choose from one of these stunning heifers. The story of Alliance Ms Dakota Dream is just beginning, but if this female’s early chapters are any indication, it’ll be a tale brimming with achievements.

In the fall of 2019, the Libke family of Sunny Valley Simmentals at Hanley, Saskatchewan was seeking a homozygous polled, 100-percent Fleckvieh female to help drive the direction of their breeding program. As the majority of their commercial bull buyers look for polled genetics when buying fullblood Simmental bulls, this bred heifer, raised by Alliance Simmental Farms of Ontario, was just the ticket.

“She was a Champs Bravo daughter, and we’d used Bravo before and had lots of success with him,” said Tyler Libke, who partnered with Bohrson Marketing Services on the purchase of this female.

“It was a pedigree that we were familiar with, and so we felt confident in the genetics behind her.”

Bringing fresh genetics into their breeding program for continuous improvement has long been a priority for Sunny Valley Simmentals, which was established in 1972 by Don and Bea Bates. Their youngest daughter, Linda, and her husband, Wayne Libke, took over the herd in the late 1980s, with son Tyler returning to the operation in 2011. Today, Wayne and Linda ranch with Tyler, his wife Erin, and their two children, Dax and Reese.

The Sunny Valley herd currently consists of about 220 purebred Simmental females. This spring they held their 33rd annual bull sale, and they sell females at the Friday Night Lights and Border City Consignment Sales.

For this family, having a particularly maternal cowherd and raising bulls that meet the needs of the commercial cattlemen are goals that shape their program.

“We’ve always been an operation that strives for quality over quantity,” said Tyler. “We don’t really chase number of cattle—we want quality, and that’s what we want the operation to be known for is the quality we produce.”

With her first calves, Alliance Ms Dakota Dream showed she can inject this higher level of quality into the Sunny Valley program, and the Libkes have been thrilled with her progeny so far.

“Quality is something that’s extremely important to us, and I think that she’s going to improve others,” he said.

“A consistent improvement pedigree is what she brings to the table…In a few years she’s certainly been pretty potent.”

After her first calf, the Libkes began flushing Dakota Dream, and her heifer and bull calves have caught the attention of other breeders and commanded significant prices.

“We flushed her to a bull called Freedom that we raised here, and it produced three heifer calves. We sold two of those heifer calves at Friday Night Lights that fall for $21,000 and $18,000, and then retained the third one, and she’s a good-looking two-year-old here now,” Tyler explained.

Dakota Dream’s first bull calf was a high seller in their annual bull sale, bringing $18,000 and proving himself as a heifer bull, and another bull calf was this year’s high-selling fullblood bull.

This attractive cow is just getting started, and the success of her progeny suggests there’s a lot of promise on the horizon for those interested in investing in her genetics. “She’s a cow that is extremely big bodied, for quality is second to none, and she’s been really fun as well,” said Tyler. “She impresses everybody that sees her.”

Fault free and powerful, in an incredibly feminine package. 62K is another attractive and long bodied polled Gambler daughter. These are the type to build off of as this Homozygous Polled standout is dark red, stacked pedigree and from the top of the DBD bred heifer pen. She comes from a productive “Fiesta” cow family and her grandam is the awesome 207A donor who is a soggy polled “Juggernaut” daughter that has produced a daughter working at Kuntz, a bull selling this past year to Rendevous, and multiple daughters retained in herd. As a bonus both of these breds are serviced by one of our new herdsires, Anchor D One More Reason 73J, an outcross fleck with good calving numbers.

The moment Krista Erixon saw IRCC Darlin’ 613D in the Indian River Cattle Co. sale catalogue, she knew her family had to buy this female.

“We’d been looking for that right bred female to add into our herd to be a donor,” said Krista, who runs Erixon Simmentals with her husband Dave and their twin sons, Griffin and Holden, at Clavet, Saskatchewan.

“I remember talking to Dave and saying, ‘I don’t know, but we have to own this cow. Something is speaking to me.’”

Integrity, commitment, and quality are the pillars of the Erixons’ business. Their breeding program is designed to serve the needs of their loyal customer base, with functional cattle that appeal to commercial producers and reflect the Simmental breed’s defining characteristics. In the fall of 2018, the Erixons weren’t the only ones with their eye on IRCC Darlin’ 613D. Ryley and Jill Mader were just as interested in this female as their next great donor cow.

Ryley and Jill run Mader Ranches at Carstairs, Alberta, along with Ryley’s parents, Randy and Ronda Mader, who established the herd. Their children, Stella and Hawkin, are now playing a bigger role in the operation, helping to get cattle ready for shows and sales.

Their herd consists of about 300 red and black Simmental females, with an embryo transplant program that stresses the importance of cow families. They aim to produce both performance and calving-ease bulls, ensure consistency within their calf crop, and raise females with good, functional feet and udders.

Though neither family could attend the sale in person, everyone they talked to who’d seen this special female spoke highly of her structure, body capacity, and elegance. With that, the Erixons and Maders teamed up to purchase her, and it all came together.

“I was just very thankful when the hammer fell and they announced Erixon and Mader Ranches, and it’s been a whirlwind ride since then,” said Krista. “She’s wonderful.”

“You’re taking a chance every time you spend a dollar in this industry, but it was a big chance we took with confidence, and we’ve never looked back,” Ryley added.

When IRCC Darlin’ 613D came west that fall, she made her presence known at her first Canadian Western Agribition, winning Reserve Champion Simmental Female and generating plenty of excitement that extended beyond the Simmental barn.

This was just the start of this cow family’s show ring supremacy. In 2022, three of the four Simmental champions at Agribition were out of the original cow, a never-beforeseen achievement.

“Last fall when her progeny was out in the show ring and in the sale rings and continued to excel and make a name for herself, she created her own her own legacy,” said Jill.

“They’ve been the talk of the industry the last couple of years...We’ve gotten the opportunity to show a few of those heifer calves, and it’s been fun,” said Krista. “When we showed Erixon Darlin’ 2J, the people that came from other barns, and from other breeds at Agribition to see this heifer calf was crazy. We’ve never shown an animal that’s drawn so much attention before.”

Away from the show ring, the Darlin’ cow family’s influence has been overwhelmingly positive for both programs.

For the Maders, the most impactful of her progeny thus far has been the bull Mader Walk The Line 92J, selling for $280,000 to Canadian Sires and KT Ranches.

“That was huge for our family and our operation. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that we got, and that bull was so well accepted in the show ring and then in the sale ring, and we had already had big intentions to utilize him in our own herd, but once something like that happens, it just took it to the next level,” said Ryley.

“It’s pretty neat when your own genetics combined with something you brought in have created such a such a positive impact.”

It’s not just within their own herds that Darlin’ genetics have made a major impact. This cow family has established itself as a noteworthy bloodline that’s now well-known throughout the cattle business.

“It doesn’t matter what breeds you’re in; you know the Darlin’ cow family because of what she’s done,” said Krista. “We’re just at the beginning of her history book, I think, and there’s a lot more to go.”

A full sister to the record setting, Mader Walk The Line, demanding $280,000, and the Erixon female who demanded $60,000, two individuals paving their own path in todays industry for KT Ranches! The Darlin donor cow has more than proven herself creating offspring, both bulls and females, that have risen to the top of the breed based on quality and production! This Darlin female patterns much like her momma, from that beautiful extended front end, that spring of rib, ideal udder structure, and a tremendous leg and foot under her. The Darlin progeny have taken the show and sale ring by storm, with two of her progeny being declared champion Simmental bull and female at major shows last fall, both of which ranked in the top 5 and 10 in supreme shows, and the female being declared supreme champion female at 2/3 big shows! It was a no brainer for us to breed this female to a son of the Violet cow family, the CWA reserve champion bull “The National,” combining two of the best cow families we can offer! When the opportunity presented itself to be a part of this sale we jumped at it. Offering an embryo female from a leading donor female in our programs was a must. The flush to WTL knocked it out of the park with the full siblings of both sexes being standouts in this years calf crop. The bottom of the pedigree offers a unique twist to red genetics with the Call of Duty bull being a maternal brother to Lock and Load and encompassing the Luba family from Czech-Mate. Luba in her own right is dark red, big topped and attractive made with the extra look and dimension that WTL has put in all his calves in our programs. The tagline for Coleman Angus is “Your Maternal Source,” and this outlook has been at the heart of Larry and Dee Coleman’s business from the very start.

The couple, who were both raised in the cattle industry, were introduced to the Angus breed when they worked for Cedar Hills Angus at Miles City, Montana, shortly after marrying. This experience shaped their perspective on how maternal power underlies a successful breeding program.

“We firmly believe that the mama cow has way more influence on progeny than the sire,” said Larry. “We believe that these great cows we can identify, regardless of the sire they’re mated to, are always going to give us either a really good bull or an outstanding female.”

With this guiding their first steps, Larry and Dee started their own operation at Charlo, Montana, in the late 1990s, seeking the very best Angus females to build their herd around. This led them to the exceptional female that has been the cornerstone of their entire breeding program—KMK Donna J311.

Though the Donna bloodline was an established, high-quality cow family at the time, Larry explained, the name wasn’t yet famous within the Angus breed. This was all about to change, as KMK Donna J311 went on to produce a string of excellent calves for the Colemans, including Coleman Donna 386, the first daughter to truly make a name for herself.

“She, in turn, was the dam of (Coleman Donna 714), which is one of the cows here that you might say put us on the map and really started changing the direction of the program,” he said.

As their operation grew, the Colemans held their first female sale in 2004 and their first bull sale in 2005. By 2023, they were selling upwards of 175 bulls at their annual sale. Today, Larry and Dee’s children, Erica and Dawson, are involved in the running of the ranch, as well as their business partners, Jeremy and Jenny Haag.

This growth can be traced back to the power of the Donna cow family, which has had an enormous impact on their program, with numerous females in their herd and new cow families developing from this bloodline.

“The Donna family built itself in the pasture through progeny, in the old fashioned away, and that’s probably why the cow family hasn’t gone away,” said Larry.

“There’s probably more demand today for the Donna family than there ever has been, and it’s because they’re just good cattle. …They’ve worked wherever they’ve gone, and people have been very happy with them.”

With high fertility, an easy fleshing nature, and the ability to produce big, goodquality calves, it’s not hard to see why these females are so in demand. This cow family has also produced tremendous bulls that are among the Colemans’ high sellers each year, appealing to their commercial bull buyers.

“As we travel around and see other herds that have bought cattle from us, it doesn’t really matter where we go, the Donna cows just stick out. They seem to thrive in every environment,” he said.

As he described these achievements, Larry expressed his gratitude for being able to purchase that original special female and for this journey she’s taken them all on.

“It’s been a blast, honestly. We never dreamed, Dee and I, that we could be in a position right now with Jeremy and Jenny and everything that’s going on here, but I think it’s a testament to the Donnas,” he said.

“Coleman Angus wouldn’t be able to do what we’re able to do without the Donnas. The Donna cow family has totally put us on the map and totally built the program, and it’s the best cow family we have.”

Riverstone Tip Top 66K is a moderate framed female who is correct in terms of her structure with mass and width and still portrays some lines, balance and show ring presence. 66K was our daughter Londons show heifer project this year and has been successful each time she enters the ring and hangs the halter on her. She is out of a powerhouse consistent dam that goes back to a popular Riverstone donor female. Her sire Coleman Bravo needs no introduction as he was the $450,000 all-time record-selling bull and featured Lot 1 bull of the 2018 Coleman Angus Ranch Bull Sale. He is a son of the $290,000 valued dam, Coleman Donna 714, the all-time high income-producing cow at Coleman Angus Ranch. Tip Top 66K ultrasounded safe to a home raised LD Grazer son, Riverstone Splash 10K. He was a high selling sire that sold in our 2023 Bull Sale to Jim and Donna Rowe of Lakeroad Angus. This bull has such a sharp and high set in his neck structure that gives him that unique presence but still has the muscle, shape and roundness of rib. BREEDING | AI Bred to Coleman Glacier 041 on April 11, 2023. (Safe)

Oklahoma has certainly left his mark and one of our favourite parts about him is his ability to sire big bodied, soggy made females that show great Angus breed character all while exhibiting a solid set of EPD’s. 2007 is impressive on paper and is even more so in the flesh. Her unique blend of calving ease numbers and bold phenotype make her a site to behold and was successfully shown by Avery Bohrson this past summer. Annie 2007 looks like a mother cow and is setting up a beautiful udder and is the type you know will be productive. This should come as no surprise as her dam was an $11,500 purchase from Hamilton Farms that stemmed from one of their most productive cow families. 2007’s dam is a maternal sister to a $15,000 female to PJ Angus, a $10,000 bull to Skyline Land & Cattle as well as a $9,000 bull to Cam Taylor, respectively. The predictability in this cow family is no miss and the early service to the great Glacier only solidifies a solid opportunity for a quick ROI.

With lineage backed by greats such as Charlo, Motive, Upward, Net Worth and cows like Coleman Donna 714, Wiwa Creek Pride 63’13 and JL Bardolia 8188, the females will be herd matrons and the sons will leave you with progeny to build around off of this sweetheart. When the Bohrson team came out this summer to select for such a prestigious and forward-thinking sale, the crew at Diamond T offered up their very best off the absolute top of the replacement pen. The Bardolia cow family has long been a staple at Diamond T and has placed more offspring in purebred and commercial herds than many top cows in the country. Bardolia 2204 is ultra attractive, bold and capacious in the curvature to her rib and has a stout pin set. This gorgeous female is versatile in her design, meaning she can be mated to a plethora of powerhouse sires and produce your next herd advancement. If family really does matter…the Bardolia cow family is one to tie to!

One of the most productive and famed cow families from the renowned Bar-E-L program is in fact the Brides and after some heavy persuasion, we talked Dave and Lynn into offering 28C in the fall of 2022 where she ended up being a high seller at the Brooking Invitational at $100,000 to Coleman Angus, Brooking Angus Ranch and Canadian Donors. Bride 28C is a big time phenotype female with a lot of Angus look, maternal characteristics, big time udder quality, strong feet and loads of rib shape and power. Her productive track record speaks for itself with many sons seeing herd bull duties at prominent purebred and commercial operations as well as some select females that were to be marketed now being front pasture type cattle at their new homes. 28C’s mating’s to the great Coleman Glacier 041 are some of the best Angus genetics available and we feel his unmatched phenotype will perfectly pair with 28C’s robust body type.

Take away the pedigree and 720 is still an easy going, big bodied, wicked uddered female that shows great breed character. Her matings to Emerald get us fired up as he took the fall sale season by storm in 2022 with daughters topping sales followed by an impressive spring 2023 outing with many sons finding homes into elite purebred operations and high end commercial outfits. True treasures aren’t easy to find, which makes the discovery of a female like Bramlets/ DBLG Emmy G930 worth celebrating.

Before she was introduced to breeders in Canada, this Simmental female took show rings south of the 49th parallel by storm, with an extensive list of achievements that includes winning Supreme Cow-Calf Pair at both the Illinois State Fair and the World Beef Expo in 2021.

So when Bramlet Simmentals of Harrisburg, Illinois, hosted their inaugural From The Ground Up Sale in the fall of 2021, they chose to offer this unique cow as their feature female.

“I have found a lot of times through sales management that when people host their very first sale, they often dig deep and sell some special lots to make sure that their sale gets off to a good start,” said Scott Bohrson, who runs Bohrson Marketing Services with his wife, Rebecca, out of Olds, Alberta.

Finding exceptional females such as Bramlets/DBLG Emmy G930 and providing the opportunity for customers to access these genetics is the aim of Canadian Donors, a division of Bohrson Marketing Services. By sourcing the very best donor females throughout North America, Canadian Donors offers embryos to breeders across the continent and overseas, with customers in Australia, China, Europe, and New Zealand.

At the heart of this business is a commitment to family, a strong work ethic, and integrity. Scott and Rebecca have two young children, Gracie and Thomas, who enjoy cattle as much as their parents do.

“We do take pride in being a family run business,” said Scott. “We definitely emphasize quality livestock and don’t take the job lightly of selling genetics to the world.”

Most of the females sourced by Canadian Donors come from breeders who work with Bohrson Marketing Services, as a way to support each other. Every so often, though, the team looks beyond this community to bring in new genetics. From The Ground Up sale manager Ryan Haefner, who was the farm manager of New York’s Hudson Pines Farm, worked with Scott when that operation dispersed, and this connection helped put Emmy on their radar.

“After I found this Emmy cow in the sale, I reached out to Ryan and asked him his opinion, and he was extremely high on this cow, which led us to do a little more homework,” he said.

“The opportunity to buy a proven two-year-old donor cow was a special opportunity, and even though it came with a large price tag it did allow us to access a cow that we think is pretty special with a different pedigree, phenotype that we really like, and is getting to have a proven track record with the progeny that she’s raised.”

Canadian Donors purchased this female for $45,000, and soon after she was flushed to the well-known Simmental bull RF Caliber 014G, bred by Rancier Farms. Some of the resulting embryos brought high prices in the New Year’s Resolution Sale, selling to Brooking Angus Ranch, Greenwood Cattle, KT & Diamond Rio.

“It is humbling to sell embryos for that much money, but it’s also really cool to sell embryos to such established breeders,” said Scott.

Emmy’s success in the donor pen is off to a fantastic start, bringing great excitement to the family behind Canadian Donors. The buzz around this fresh cow family is sure to continue, with the Family Matters Sale offering a half interest on Emmy herself and the choice of four embryo heifer calves.

“Emmy’s a little bit to a different twist on pedigree, which is intriguing, and she’s been a cow that’s been proven to flush very well,” Scott explained.

“If you’re investing in half the cow or one of her daughters, you’re accessing a cow that’s got extremely good feet, an awesome udder, and is phenotypically ideal for our kind, as far as she’s extremely structurally correct and really proud through her front end.”

In our never ending quest to source the most elite genetics, in 2021 we came across the next great black blaze female we were searching for. Emmy G930 is the epitome of a power cow with tonnes of look and eye appeal. Her awesome foot, flawless udder and structural integrity earned her the accolades of Supreme Champion at the Illinois State fair, Champion cow/calf at Jr Nationals as well at the Eastern Regionals while campaigned in 2021, but her greatest accomplishment will surely be her progeny. Her daughters available for purchase within the Family Matters sale truly speak for themselves and she also has some big time daughters at Brooking Angus Ranch as well at Greenwood/Hoegl that just prove this stunning show female can also produce. Her flush record is strong averaging 14.3 embryos on 6 IVF flushes and she sells open and ready to get back into embryo production with some exciting matings also being offered here. The mating to the breeding powerhouse, the $150,000 Caliber, would be full siblings to the exciting calves we mentioned and we can assure you they are the type to get you excited. The outcross option of the mating from RFS Heavy Hitter H45 is very promising as the early reports on the HH progeny are encouraging with the mating likely resulting is a sought after blaze face. Emmy is the perfect blend of shear volume with elegance and we think her story is just beginning and look forward to working with our new partners.

You know an animal has made an impact in the breed when international visitors know of them and are thrilled to see them in person.

In the case of an Australian guest touring the herd at Blairswest Land & Cattle, the opportunity to see “the Erica”—Bar E-L Erica 74A, that is—was an unexpected treat.

“She couldn’t believe it. She was just blown away that she actually got to see the actual female, which was cool,” Calla Blair recounted.

Bar E-L Erica 74A is the kind of female that can prompt such a response, and this situation wasn’t an anomaly. The Blair family has received phone calls from strangers who want to visit their farm at Drake, Saskatchewan, to see this exceptional cow, highlighting the influence of this bloodline in the Black Angus business.

The addition of the first Erica female—which was also their first Black Angus female—to their breeding program began an important chapter for Blairswest Land & Cattle, run by Scott and Calla Blair along with their sons Cameron, Nolan, and Maguire. The farm was established more than a century ago, and the Blair family began raising purebred Simmental cattle in the 1960s. They have sold commercial F1 heifers for more than three decades, and in 2009 they made their first foray into the Angus breed.

Today, they farm approximately 7,000 acres and run 400 females, with quality genetics and their commitment to standing behind the cattle they raise underpinning their business.

“We want people to know that we are always looking for new genetics, and that we pride ourselves on docility and good-quality feet, legs, udder, and structure,” said Calla.

With solid maternal qualities, Bar E-L Erica 74A thrust the Blairs’ breeding program into the spotlight, with numerous achievements to her name.

Raised by Bar E-L Angus of Stettler, Alberta, the original Erica was consigned as a calf in Brooking Angus Ranch’s invitational sale in 2013. Blairs.Ag Cattle Company of Lanigan, Sask. purchased the promising heifer, and the Blairswest crew bought into this female to be Maguire’s 4-H heifer, kicking off a stellar show career.

“He got her after Agribition, and then we showed her throughout the winter,” said Calla. “That fall, we took her out, and she was making some friends along the way, and then she went out as a cow-calf pair, and she won all the major shows.”

In addition to winning many small-town fairs and junior shows, such as Summer Synergy, this female shot to stardom at Farmfair International, Manitoba Ag Ex, and Lloydminster Stockade Roundup. Among her successes was being named the Grand Champion Black Angus Female at the 2015 Canadian Western Agribition and the 2015 Canadian Angus Show Female of the Year. She capped off this terrific year by being named Miss Angus World 2015 through the Champion of the World program. For the Blairs, this female has made an incredibly significant impact on their herd, propelling their business to where it is today. She has more than 200 progeny to date, with more calves being recorded all the time.

“It’s been everything, really. For our black division…it definitely kept us at the forefront,” said Calla. “This cow family means everything.”

And being able to share this success with their own family? That makes it even sweeter.

“Family is what is most important, and that is why this is so cool, being able to be on this journey with Blairs.Ag with Kevin, Noreen, Darren, and Deb. It’s what it’s all about.”

Erica… in 10 short years that name has had a tremendous influence on the Angus business. Unless your wife or daughter is named Erica (or possibly even then), if you hear the name Erica, you are thinking of the great Bar-E-L Erica 74A. Dominant show cow? Sure. Dominant donor cow? Definitely. Erica has done so much in so many ways, and it is very cool to read her story at the introduction of this section on what she has meant for the Blairswest and Blairs.ag programs and those families. Even though Erica already has 170 registered progeny in the Canadian Angus database, one could argue that her story is still on the way up. With the way she flushes and how good she still looks at age 10, there is a lot of future here. And everyone wants, or should want, their own Erica. These pregnant recipient and embryo options represent your opportunity at an Erica, as early as spring 2024 on the recipients or just one short year later on the embryos. Choose from the proven mating to Duff Napoleon or the intriguing outcross option in McCumber La Joya. On the embryos, Square B Atlantis is backed by the great Elbanna of Conanga 1209 and Sterling Pacific is an own grandson of Baldridge Isabel Y69. The mating to Three Rivers will be electric with the great Erica as his shear power and breeding capabilities will cross ideally with the maternal greatness of 74A. Whichever route you choose, you are stacking more great maternal genetics on top of Erica - a no miss proposition.

When you start your life as the calf at side of the World Simmental Congress Champion Female, it’s safe to say you’re destined for great things.

This was just the case for TLG Flirtin With You 16S, whose dam, Chub’s Flirt 6P, captured the coveted title at the 2006 World Simmental Congress in Calgary. This was only the beginning for this remarkable heifer, who was raised by Tracy Gaulter and purchased that fall by Rancier Farms at Killam, Alberta.

Rancier Farms is run by Garth and Angela Rancier and their children Kade and Abby. Their farm was established in 1905, and Garth is the first generation of his family to raise seedstock.

When Garth began raising Simmental cattle in 2001, he built his herd around maternal bloodlines, as opposed to the focus on sires that prevailed in the breed at the time. Prioritizing cow families has remained essential to Rancier Farms, which now consists of about 200 purebred and percentage Simmental females and an extensive embryo transfer program.

This strategy paid off with TLG Flirtin With You 16S, the matriarch of the Flirt cow family that has made a name for itself in the Simmental breed in Canada and beyond. This particular cow has been the most impactful female in the Ranciers’ program, with her influence in about 80 percent of their cow herd’s pedigrees.

“We’re generations deep in that cow family now,” said Garth. “Our high-selling bull this year, Boomer, that went to Canadian Sires, he goes all the way back to that 16S cow, and it’d be five generations back.”

A granddaughter of this cow, RF Certainly Flirtin 202Z, is one of the most recognizable females in the Simmental breed, with a significance that lives up to the legacy of her granddam.

The consistency of this cow family is a main feature, as are their beautiful udders, big bodies, and overall attractiveness.

“Generation after generation, they’ve just been really good, high-value cattle, and cattle that are really easy doing,” Garth explained. “They cover the basics really well.”

These traits have brought numerous show ring successes, with TLG Flirtin With You 16S winning Supreme Champion Female at Farmfair International in 2008.

A daughter of this cow took home the Supreme Champion Female title in 2010, and granddaughter RF Certainly Flirtin 202Z became the third generation to win supreme at Edmonton.

RF Certainly Flirtin 202Z also made history in 2014 as the first Simmental female to ever win Supreme Champion Female at Canadian Western Agribition. This female had more than $1 million in earnings to her name during her lifetime, with her progeny commanding high prices, some even breaking records. Noteworthy sires raised by the Ranciers, such as RF Caliber 014G, which was sold for $150,000 to KT Ranches and Canadian Sires in 2021, go back to this cow, spreading the Flirt cow family influence even further across the Simmental breed.

When you list all these accomplishments, it’s easy to see why this cow family is so special to the Rancier family.

“It’s been awesome because we built our cowherd around them, and we show tons of them and sold lots of them. Our kids are still showing them now,” said Garth.

“They opened the door in a lot of ways for us in the business, too. We had some other cow families before that, but they’ve become the most influential ones for us.”

The whole idea behind the Family Matters Sale was to not only feature some of the most elite, productive, and sought after cow families, but also the great people and their families behind the cattle and the Rust family from Rust Mountain View Ranch are some of the best that annually step into the most elite genetics. Only at a special sale like this do big time cows become available and 970G is an exciting, young donor with a lifetime of production left ahead of her. A past lead off and high seller from Friday Night Lights, 970G is a full sister to the $130,000 Supercharged 9150G and the $110,000 (2/3 interest) RF Certainly Flirtin 956G! 970G is powerfully constructed in every sense of the meaning, huge bodied, sound made, attractive with all the fundamentals in check! 970G has been a productive donor with sons selling through the annual Ace in the Hole bull sale to progressive operations across the US and some feature females marketed through the annual fall production sale. 970G has been a consistent donor that flushes well and can be mated to an array of sires. Her “A” lot embryos by the exciting $280,000 Walk The Line, are embryos we feel get the blood pumping, and after seeing WTL’s first calf crop and how much they have blown by the large expectations, it’s safe to say they will do just that. The “B” lot by Journeyman offer a unique and outcross genetic advancement to most mainstream genetics with a high quality build. 970G is bred early via exposure to a pair of maternal brothers mothered by the beautiful, productive WS Miss Sugar C4 donor. One son by HHS Mr. Entourage 867B ASA #3960632 or the other by W/C Fort Knox 609F ASA #3960761. Either way she’s mated, it’s exciting to add the Sugar C4 cow to the great Flirt pedigree!

Since the summer of 2022 when we laid eyes on Boomer we knew he was a special individual we needed to watch. His muscle shape, fleshing ability, depth and power was evident early on in his life and his ability to still get out, track and flex with as much base width and mass as he has is commendable. His strong skull, big crest and large testicles are some of our favourite things about him, but as every great bull should, his mother was truly a huge selling feature for us and was the icing on the cake. 850F is as massive and powerful as she is attractive and feminine. Her foot and udder quality are exactly the type we have come to expect from her cow family and the multi generations of donor females on the bottom side of Boomers pedigree, take any guess work out of the equation. We feel Boomer 262K has a tonne to offer the Beef Industry as he checks so many of the crucial boxes a special sire should. Boomer has the the ability to elevate a program and we are excited to watch his breeding contribution for years to come.

A trio of very exciting females! These sisters check so many boxes and have so much potential we would like to work with the new purchaser if they so wish. The Caliber cattle have exceeded our expectations in being easy doing, attractive cattle with added scale, depth and power. This flush of heifers prove just that and the combination of their sharp lined, good uddered, baldy faced mother was a home run. A full brother in the flush has a bright future and one we are very excited about. All 3 of these females are always so easy to find in the pen with their added presence and look, sound structure and sweeping bellies. These heifers have the unique ability to be ultimate show heifers while keeping the fundamentals in check to be productive cows for years to come.

These flush mate sisters are sired by the 2023 Canadian Show Bull of the Year Black Gold Coliseum. Halter broke after his first breeding season by Sawyer in literally 3 hrs, went on to be named a top 10 qualifier twice at Agribition as well as a Top 5 qualifier at both Farmfair and Lloydminster Stockade Roundup. Their dam, LRX BLK Ruby 9C, referred to as Earl at Southpaw, was herself a National YCSA Champion female as a yearling and matured into a massive bodied sound on the move cow with a beautifully feminine front third that both these hfrs are blessed with. Earl has produced our top selling bull in each of our 3 EVENT bull sales and only ever given us 4 female offspring. The one daughter we have in production had her first Coliseum calf sold in our bull sale to the Lutz brothers of Olds in 2023. 208K is due Jan 3rd to the extremely popular SO Remedy 7F and 209K is due Jan 24th to LRPS 1021J, a Drake Poker Face 2X grandson. Both females are bred with calving ease and outcross genetics in mind. Either one of these heifers will make a solid addition to your program with the freedom of using many of the top genetics in today’s industry to breed to in the future.

The “ B Gold” cow family is one that is super productive and the long list of high quality cattle featured in last falls historic Spring Creek dispersal that derived from this cow family was endless. We acquired the 102Y donor from one of McCarthys cow sales where she was a lights out high seller that day. She was near perfect uddered, a foot improver and looked incredible year round. She produced an exciting $31,000 female to Maxwell’s, has sons that seen herd bull duties at Fallen Timber, Silver Lake and many other productive offspring working in many commercial and purebred operations alike. 190J resembles her donor dam is so many ways. She is beautiful skulled, tidy through her front end, strong footed, level and square uddered, wide pinned, big ribbed and extremely sound. The breeding possibility with 190J are endless and we have no doubt she will go on to be a great breeding piece.

An exciting set of heifer calves we are proud to offer that are a result of embryos purchased from Rancier Farms. Their rich pedigree back up their phenotype and we feel these soft made, big bodied females would be extremely competitive come fall in the show ring, but will then turn into front pasture females. The Rancher progeny are the right kind and the foot quality, muscle shape and power are evident in these heifers. Their donor dam is a full sib to the $62,000 FNL heifer calf that caused a stir in 2018 to Rainbow/SIBL/Triangle K and the attractiveness, eye appeal and maternal look these heifers show, resembles all the Flirt cow family is known for. Perhaps the most exciting part about these heifers is the full brother at home that is the strongest black bull we have raised to date that will be a feature in our 2024 bull sale. The Flirt x Sammie mating here screams cow power and we feel these special females have a lot of potential.

These Flirt females annually prove why they are one of the most prominent cow families in the entire beef industry. Flirt 33L is an embryo transfer calf from the $62,000 RF Flirt 827F donor that was a past Friday Nighy Lights high seller that since turned into a gorgeous donor female. Like her mother, 33L has all the style and pizzaz you would come to expect from such a mating. The popular Hannibal bull was a welcoming addition to the 827F cow and we feel this is one that can be a competitive show heifer that will without question go on to be a big time cornerstone in any herd. The muscle pattern, body dimension and build of this heifer is right where we want it and you have to appreciate how perfectly she combines the power and muscle with beauty and elegance as she is longest fronted and most unique females through her front 1/3 in the entire sale. These cattle that look like females and yet don’t lack any of the meat and potato’s are the type to be profitable and when you add in the perfect white face like 33L, it’s an exciting recipe.

Here is a female that is actually dual qualified for the Family Matters sale, going back to both the Scream and Flirt cow families in her pedigree. No wonder she is such a true brood cow prospect with tons of body, shape, and a productive look. Her maternal granddam is RF Certainly Flirtin 740E who was the $55,000 high seller at FNL in 2017 and is a cornerstone donor for the Rust Mountain View Ranch program. As we have built our Simmental herd, we couldn’t resist adding a Flirt female to the mix, and with 71L as her first calf, it appears that 052H has a very bright future. 71L’s sire is from the great program at Black Gold and has impressed us with his first progeny for his calving ease and type of cattle he has left us. Despite being a dual qualifier for Family Matters, 71L’s pedigree is anything but common and in fact offers a lot of future mating flexibility. So go ahead and take a look at this cowy, red blaze that combines Sceam and Flirt into one package - your chance to take advantage of the predictability of cow families that has never been more evident than in this very event.

One of our absolute favourite red donors in existence is 532C and for good reason. Her easy fleshing ability, strong feet, impeccable udder and strong production record make her a noteworthy female in so many ways. Her mating to the $140,000 Eclipse is truly exciting as he is one of the most exciting new red bulls we have come across. His powerful build will be a great contribution to 532C and his mother, Brooke, just adds another big time cow to the recipe. Cabaret was also a $140,000 high seller that was exactly what we were on the hunt for in a black bull this past spring when he topped the Lewis Bull Sale. He adds generations of donor cows on both sides of his pedigree and an unmatched phenotype. ES Right Time FA110-4 adds a genetic twist to 532C in an outcross pedigree that will add some stretch and appeal to the mix. 532C is as good of a cow as you’ll make and these exciting matings can help elevate even the most prominent programs.

The right female can take a breeding program to new heights—just ask the Hoegl family of Hoegl Livestock. Their purchase of Sunny Valley Lady A 51A did just this for their Simmental herd, creating a positive impact that they’re immensely proud of.

Th e Hoegls bought this fema l e from Sunny Valley Simmentals o f Han l ey, S askatchewan in 2014, when she was on offer a s a bred h eifer in the Friday Night Lights Sale.

“Every once in a while, y o u come across a female that you like a lot and deci de y o u ’re going to buy her, so that’s how it went,” sa id Murry Hoegl. “It seemed to turn out very well for us ”

S unny Valley Lady A 51A had the fullblood Simmental charac t eristics the Hoegls were looking for, which Mur ry s tated has worked very well for th em. The heifer’s p o l l e d g enetics were also an as se t to their program.

“She was just front-end fem ale that w e decided we needed to own,” h e said. M ur ry and his wife Lynette Co o l id ge run this operation northeast of L l o yd m in ster, S ask. They bought their firs t purebred animal in 1990 and have exp and ed their herd over the last thr e e decades. To day , they breed 250 females e ach y e ar , ma rket their bulls in an a nn ual sale with Robb Farms a nd Greenwood C attle , and run a small gra i n o peration.

The objective of always tryi ng to m o ve forward is a major driving force b ehind th eir breeding program, M u rry explained.

“We ’ l l try and raise the best s tock we can, and the goal is to make them better t h an the year before. And if we ca n achieve that goal, we’re p retty happy.”

When asked about Sunny Valle y Lady A 51A’s sta ndout t raits, Murry was quick t o describe her big volume, good f ee t , and dark red fullblood pigment, a l l features h e s e l ects for. This female provides all this a nd mo re, wi t h prov en genetics that have served Hoegl Livestoc k we l l over the years.

“We’ve bred her several differe nt ways and it doesn’t matter h ow you breed her, you end up with a qual i ty product in the end, whet her bull or a fem ale,” s aid Murry

“We have about well over 40 progen y registered out of her as of toda y, w ith more o n the way ”

S ure enough, Sunny Valley L ady A 51A’s proven genetics have taken t h ei r breeding program to the nex t lev el.

“It’s m o v e d o u r w h o le f ul l blood t o th e next sta ge and t h at’s o ne of our m ai n goals ,” said Murry. “In time we ’re slowly breeding them up a nd incorporated s o m e homo polled genetics now, w h ic h i s a bit of a bonus in my mind ”

Th i s female is the corne rs t o ne of the Hoegls’ embryo transfer program, as well as their top-earning cow.

“Th e 51A donor has done e ver ythi ng we could have ever aske d of her and has pu t many sons in top pure bred and commercial operations and has had many high-selling daughters through Friday Night Lights,” t h e family wrote in their 2022 bull sale catalogue.

“51A’s daughters now in p ro duction are certainly cl imb ing to the top of the he rd, and we are currently flushing a dau ghter also.”

There’s a quiet pride i n Murry’s voice when he ta l ks about this standout fe m ale , a nd in this humbleness his appreciation for how t h is b l o o dline has impacted his h e rd for the better shines thro ug h .

“She’s just been a g ood cow to us and done u s lots of good ,” he said. “ You can go through lots of females to fi nd another one like her, as far as p roduction and the rest of it.”

We really wanted to showcase our prominent Lady A cow family in this exciting sale and thought what better way to provide what she is capable of then to offer an own daughter in the prime of her productive years that resembles the old girl in so many ways! 905G is a favourite Lady A female that we flushed last spring with some success. We appreciate this cow for her dark complexion, superb foot quality and udder attachment. These Raptor daughters are the real deal and he complimented 51A here perfectly. 905G is big ribbed, square made and a joy to look at 365 days a year. We feel her breeding capabilities are endless and believe she will follow right in her mothers foot steps. This one is special. 500L is what we have been striving to produce here for quite some time. Long bodied, loads of volume and power, all while still remaining attractive and maternal looking. The bonus of being a direct Lady A daughter and being Homo Polled is just a big time bonus when you analyze 500L. Her sire is a new exciting herd bull at the farm that is dark red, hairy, with awesome feet and loads of muscle. 500L resembles all of her exciting sisters we have marketed in the past but to have one here that is Homo Polled is truly exciting and opens up a whole new door for breeding possibilities on this future donor. Here is one of the most exciting females we have ever raised that we truly think has a tonne of earning potential going forward. Out of breed people were coming by to see her and commented how unique she was while having traditional Fleckvieh length and power was she coupled it together with a phenotype that was superior and hard to change. Extremely attractive, sound made, soft haired, long fronted and gorgeous skulled. Her feet, teat placement, bone and overall look made her a $55,000 high seller and her successful flush record thus far make us excited to see what she will produce. The Embryos and pregnant recip by Sugar Ray are exciting as he is the sire to the $355,000 Rumble bull and has so many special accomplishments aside from him. The recip carrying a Rumble x Helena is some of the very best genetics one could get their hands on in the entire industry and believe it speaks for itself.

When Tom and Carol Hadway purchased Parkhill Red Doll 21F as a calf, this laid the foundation for the two main red cow families that have made the Westway Farms Simmental program what it is today.

“When we think of the best, we think of them,” said their daughter Andie Schmidt, referring to the Licious and Red Doll females that have thrived on the family’s mixed farming operation at Didsbury, Alberta.

Westway Farms got its start when the Hadways purchased land in 1974, and in 1983 Tom and Carol incorporated their business, beginning with a mixed grain, seed, and cattle farm and then establishing a purebred Simmental herd in 1992.

“We got involved with Simmental cattle because I was really good friends with Sandy Lewis in university and through our friendship we were able to see firsthand how beneficial the Simmental genetics were and how they could improve our own breeding program,” said Carol. “We bought our first Simmental bull from Lewis Farms, and then we also leased some cows from the LFE program to help us build our herd.”

Tom and Carol operate Westway Farms alongside their four children and spouses— Dayna and Caith, Will, Andie and Brayden, and Josie—all helping and taking part in the day-to-day duties at Westway.

Today, in addition to their grain and seed operation and 500-head cow herd, the Hadway family also runs a backgrounding and finishing feedlot with a 1,000-head capacity.

“Our mother cows here on the farm have to perform for us to raise quality bulls and productive females. We are very proud of the breeding program and of the cow herd that we have built over the last four decades. The feedlot now allows us to analyze our own genetics full cycle at a larger scale to see their efficiencies and conversions,” Andie explained.

The original Red Doll PHR 21F cow, which Tom calls the “absolute most productive foundation cow on the red side” of their program, was one of the first females flushed at Westway. She produced 41 registered progeny, including many daughters retained in the Westway program.

One of this cow’s granddaughters was WFL Red Licious 26L, the first Licious cow. Among her 21 registered progeny were three females that became donor cows, and later her granddaughters were flushed, too. Soon, her females made for an impressive lineage, and currently most of the herd’s pedigrees go back to the Licious cow family.

A direct daughter of WFL Red Licious 26L, WFL Sweet Licious 1044X, is the most influential Licious female they’ve raised to date, with 37 registered progeny and a firm position as the herd’s matriarch.

“We walked three of WFL Sweet Licious 1044X sons here, have sold many sons through our bull sale, and it seemed like no matter what you’ve bred her to, it worked,” said Andie. “Those strong maternal traits from that cow family just keep pushing through.”

Two of this female’s most noteworthy male progeny are the bulls WFL Westcott 24C and WFL Westerdale 6E, both of which have had a major influence on the Westway herd and on the Simmental breed as a whole.

“We love the cow family for how consistent and dominating they are in our herd, constantly breeding themselves to be better. This is the reason we have had a hard time letting any Licious females go because we love to keep them as foundation females here at Westway.”

“She’s impacted all of us kids in some way,” said Andie, speaking fondly of WFL Sweet Licious 1044X. The four Hadway kids often showed Licious females in 4-H and junior shows and each one has a connection to a Licious pedigree. The whole family appreciates the impact this cow family has had on the herd.

“For all of us at the farm, Sweet Licious had her place, and she knew she did. The legacy of the Licious cow family will continue to live on at Westway for many years to come.”

Her most recent son, WFL Water Valley 2064K purchased by Maxwell Simmental & Canadian Sires this spring, was a standout candidate when it came to foot quality. Her sire, WS Prime Beef, is an outcross breeding to Canadian pedigrees which allows this young donor prospect to be bred and flushed any way you would like. Having WFL 1044X in the pedigree, as the maternal great grandmother, will add some punch and stoutness to her future progeny. hen Delaney and Deanna Boon purchased a heifer calf in 2001 as a junior project for their son Eric, little did they all know this would be the start of a hugely influential Limousin cow family.

This fullblood Limousin female, purchased from Cochrane Stock Farms at the Solid Gold sale at Canadian Western Agribition, was shown by Eric as a bred heifer. Her first calf, B Bar Polled Nicole 4N, created a buzz around the B Bar program as she caught the attention of breeders during her four-year show ring career.

“That was where we started to be more competitive in the show ring and more breeders were starting to take notice of our operation, and she was a huge part of why,” said Eric Boon, who runs B Bar Cattle at Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan with his parents, his wife, Terra, and their two children, Rozlyn and Liam.

Delaney and Deanna established B Bar Cattle in the 1980s, the first in the family to venture into the purebred cattle business. Today, the family runs 100 head of Limousin females on their mixed farming operation, focusing on producing balanced cattle that add value, whether they’re retained or marketed to other programs.

“Our goal is to try to develop a well-rounded product and that still has Limousin characteristics and not losing sight of what the breed is known for,” said Eric.

“We like actual data, we like projected data, but the animals have to look great too, and there needs to be cow families behind them.”

Their current perspective on the importance of cow families developed in the years while Eric was studying at the University of Saskatchewan. To help lighten the workload until he returned to the farm, the Boons leased their cow herd to friends Martin and Donna Bohrson of Anchor B Limousin for five years.

“It’s one of the best things that’s ever happened to us in our operation and put us to where we are today,” said Eric.

“It was a great way to strengthen our herd just with the cows that we had, and we really started to notice cow families and the strength of them and how important they are.”

As well, this five-year agreement provided access to bulls that Anchor B had exclusive rights to, such as ROMN Made To Order. A flush of B Bar Polled Nicole 4N to this prominent bull resulted in three females that have had a lasting impact on their breeding program.

“Those three have all gone on and produced tremendously for us over the years and put daughters into herds and always produced herd bulls that breeders were buying,” he said.

By investing in Nicole genetics, Eric explained, customers are adding this cow family’s consistency, reliability, and depth of pedigree into their breeding programs, as well as the marketability of a well-known name.

“They’ve always been docile cattle. They’re really easygoing,” he said. “They’ve got good foot quality on them, they’re sound cattle, and good milking. The bulls are great on fertility, scrotal development, and they carry a lot of breed characteristics and some muscle, but they still have some softness and structural integrity to them.” This year, 60 percent of the Boons’ calf crop trace back to the original Nicole female through herd sires, showcasing the strength of this cow family in producing topquality bulls.

“She’s done a lot for us in that regard, putting herd bulls into some very reputable operations,” said Eric.

“When a lot of people think about our operation and think about cow families, it’s one that quickly come to mind…She’s really a cow family that’s helped put us where we are today.”

The only reason this opportunity exists is due to the restructuring of our operation and with that, it came with the unfortunate decision to disperse our cowherd this fall. We felt there was no better way to announce our dispersal than in a multi-breed sale of this caliber.

Anchor B Fawn 13F is a female we admired as soon as we saw her and jumped at the opportunity to own her. She combined all the attributes we were looking for in a future donor female; phenotype, numbers and phenomenal cow families on both sides of her pedigree. The early mating to the highly popular and exclusive $33,000 Wulfs Hyannis 4785H bull has already clicked with Fawn 13F, as proven by the two heifer calves as Lot 12c and 12d.

This flush is exactly what we were hoping for! Cattle that are eye appealing, functional, docile, and complete with true breed characteristics. They carry tremendous EPDs that allow for so many breeding opportunities into the future. The flush of 8 calves is highlighted by these two heifer calves on offer, and is also strong with a flushmate bull calf who Rocky and Debbie Payne recently purchased privately at the beginning of July!

The Bentley cattle have been game changers for our herd in terms of growth, docility, fertility, and performance. LOT 15F & 15G : 2 packs of 5 units of B-Bar Rainmaker 4K semen *Semen will be available at Alta Genetics after his 2023 show career

B-Bar Rainmaker 4K has stood out at every stage of his development. He has the herdbull presence, and great length of body all combined with stout muscling and depth of rib. He stands on a powerful, stout leg, with an ideal foot and moves with ease and flexibility. Not to mention he has a very easy going demeanor. Numerically he’s impressive, ranking in the top 20% of 10 of the 11 growth and maternal traits. More importantly those projected numbers are backed by his actual data. Genetically, he stacks 3 of B-Bar’s most noteworthy cow families together, Foxtrot’s, Urban Girl’s and of course the Nicole’s. In fact, he traces back to the original B Bar Polled Nicole 4N foundation female on both the top and bottom side of his pedigree. He was the lead off and co-high selling bull in the 2022 B-Bar Sale to Canadian Sires. When Scott toured in the summer and saw him the first time on pasture, he remarked that Rainmaker was one of the best Limo bulls he has ever seen at that age and he had a lasting impact on him through the fall and up to sale time in December. Their team was excited to add him to the Canadian Sires line-up and with 15 highly anticipated calves to be born at B-Bar next year, we think his future is incredible.

If your only excuse not to utilize him is because he’s scurred, just remember two past bulls, Anchor B ‘The Boss’ and B Bar Austin Healy 4D ET, that came from the B-Bar cow herd who made an impact in this breed!

There’s nothing quite like a cow that can do it all, and Sunny Valley Rhea 54C is just that type of female.

When Lenny Mark purchased this striking full Fleckvieh female as a bred heifer in 2016, he added a maternal powerhouse to his family’s breeding program, capable of producing outstanding bulls and females.

“We talked to Libkes (of Sunny Valley Simmentals), and they say she’s one of the best cow families they’ve got,” said Lenny, who runs Mark Land & Cattle with his wife, Rhonda, and their two daughters at Irma, Alberta.

Before venturing into the purebred cattle business, the Marks ran about 400 commercial females of Simmental and Hereford influence. About 12 years ago, they purchased a set of fullblood Simmental females from Lewis Farms at Spruce Grove, AB.

“The deal was that the bulls could go back to their sale every year, and we got started,” Lenny explained.

In selecting donor females to build their fullblood herd, Sunny Valley Rhea 54C’s moderation and size stood out, as well as many other advantageous traits.

“She has the easy doing ability, and her udder quality is second to none,” he said, noting that her mothering ability is also excellent.

This female was off to a strong start with her first calf, the bull LFE Inscription 570E, which sold for $25,500 in 2018 through the Lewis Farms sale.

The biggest impact this cow family has had on the Marks’ business to date came in the form of her son SBV Reputation 707F, which sold for $165,000 to Black Gold Simmentals and Canadian Sires.

“It’s the highlight bull that I’ve sold over the last 12 years that have been in the business,” said Lenny.

SBV Reputation 707F is already making a huge impact on the Black Gold breeding program, a testament to the strength of the Rhea cow family.

“Reputation had high expectations set out for him ever since we acquired him alongside Canadian Sires, but it’s safe to say he passed them and then some. His first progeny hit the market last year in both our bull and female sale, where they were well respected by all kinds of cattlemen,” the Noble family wrote in their 2023 sale catalogue.

“Reputation progeny are consistent in being big-bodied, easy doing cattle with lots of red pigment and impressive performance. His daughters now in production might be his best attribute.”

On the topic of daughters, the Rhea females are consistently high-quality, garnering just as much attention as her bulls. One of her daughters, SBV Rhea 812J, sold as a bred heifer for $50,000 in the 2022 Friday Night Lights Sale, another highlight for the Mark family.

As Rhea’s progeny caught the attention of other producers, Christel Humbke of Starwest Farms at Calmar, Alberta, wanted to harness the power of this cow family for her own fullblood herd.

“They showed great interest in her after we sold Reputation,” said Lenny, who pitched the Humbkes on the idea of being partners. Starwest Farms bought into the cow, who now resides at their operation.

The original Rhea cow remains the favourite donor female at Mark Land & Cattle, and the people who love her know that her genetics are the real deal, resulting in progeny with the ability to improve a breeding program.

“The maternal side would be the biggest asset, I would think,” said Lenny. “Then if you’re looking down the road, it’s for selling bulls. You can use them on heifers or cows.”

cow that can do it all

I don’t think we’ve ever sold a female with such as stacked pedigree for maternal and paternal greatness while remaining polled. Houston, Whistler, Doorn, Molson, Romano, Marcus, Rusty, Bravo, Colossal and Viper make up the bull power, then with the dominant cow families of the Rhea’s, Lolita’s, Glitter’s and Helga’s have made 980K into a female worthy to stand the test of time. 980K comes straight from our fall calving program, giving her the advantage of a more mature look at this stage while giving you the extra age advantage when breeding and calving her next year. She’s a super tank made female with lots of dimension in her rear and middle third. Her pigmentation is stellar and with the first group of Reputation’s in milk we see great things ahead for 980K.

The full intention of purchasing these embryos was to be able to start a new cow family here at the farm, well that was until “arm twisting”, Snids came around! The Reputation progeny have gone out and made their mark in the industry and this cross with Lady Grace has produced something pretty special. 108L is long spined, wide based and sure footed. Being a combo of two highly productive dam’s has given her a lady-like look with all the features you want a future donor cow to carry. We are proud to be a part of the Rhea cow family’s history and know 108L will only add pages to the history book.

BREEDING | AI Bred to Starwest Pol Blueprint on Apr. 11/23. PE to KWA Slider 196H from Apr 30 - May 20/23.

The Rhea cow family has been as reliable and consistent as any in the Fullblood division at Sunny Valley. Their ability to produce both top quality bulls and females has been impressive. Rhea 61X has been a tremendous producer, putting 2 sons in purebred herds and others in top commercial operations. Her daughters have also been very productive, with 54C producing the $165,000 Reputation. 24E is 61X’s top daughter at Sunny Valley and is one very impressive cow. Her mating to ROD Shamrock produced 29K, a polled powerhouse female that has risen to the top of the fullblood division. She is right for the times and will be a true herd bull producer. Her mating to the proven Blueprint has taken the guesswork right out of this equation.

She was a past high selling, feature lot at The Evolution Sale for $42,000 and has since laid down a gorgeous udder and is shaping up to be a truly exciting brood cow in a polled package. Her mating to the exciting $355,000 Rumble 62H just screams opportunity, and we feel something truly exciting lies within these embryos. Sugar Ray has done a great job and has been known for siring highly marketable cattle of both genders that are coloured right with loads of muscle expression. Silver Lake Jackson 24J was a true sale highlight of the 2022 bull sale season and the early calf reports are certainly encouraging and we believe his mass and power will be a great compliment to Maddy 101J. SBV REPUTATION 707F $160,000 SON OF RHEA 54C 14i
RHEA FAMILY |

To Jordan and Katie Deeg, WFL Red Sage 506C is a model cow through and through. The influence this female has had on their operation, Deeg Simmentals, is so positive, it’s no wonder that they’re reluctant to sell her daughters.

“Once we get them, we have a hard time wanting to let them go, that’s for sure,” said Katie. “One thing about Sage is that the maternal power behind her—you just can’t beat it.”

Along with Jordan’s dad, Roger, and uncle, Dave, the couple runs this mixed farm at Strathmore, Alberta, with just under 200 head of purebred Simmental females.

The Deegs’ program is all about raising correct, functional cattle from the ground up, and temperament is also a major priority, with Jordan and Katie’s three young children, Dane, Brynn, and Allie, on the operation.

The Sage cow family has offered all of this and more, and the Deegs are quick to praise everything the original female brings to the table.

“She’s just so easy keeping and always looks phenomenal. We’ve never touched her feet; her feet are perfect, and her udder is excellent as well,” said Jordan. “I don’t know if we’ll ever get one as good to replace her with, other than maybe her daughters.”

Raised by Westway Farms, WFL Red Sage 506C was on offer as a bred heifer at the 2016 Friday Night Lights sale, and she was a standout to everyone who saw her, Jordan recalled, including the Libke family of Sunny Valley Simmentals at Hanley, Saskatchewan.

“As soon as the catalogue came out, we were extremely interested, and then when we saw her in person, we had to find a way to own her, and that’s how we ended up with a couple of partners,” said Tyler Libke, who purchased this heifer along with Bohrson Marketing Services and Deeg Simmentals.

The partners began flushing this female after her first calf, and her embryo production has been incredible from the start.

“I’m sure she’s averaged over 20 embryos per flush, and the one daughter that we flushed gave us 30 embryos on one flush,” said Tyler.

Sunny Valley currently has more than 30 of her registered progeny in their herd, and she’s produced more than $400,000 in direct progeny sales for them. Among their highselling bulls out of Sage is SVS Betts 808F, who sold for $120,000 in their bull sale.

“I was pretty proud to take anybody to see him, and we showed that calf in the fall and won the President’s Classic show at Agribition, and he was Reserve Champion at Agribition in the Simmental show,” he said. “His females are absolutely incredible and a true testament to the power of the Sage cow behind him.”

Thanks to this cow family, Tyler explained, their breeding program has moved several steps ahead in the right direction.

“The consistency that she produces and the quality is right where we want to be. On both bulls and females, her ability to produce them is truly second to none,” he said. The Deegs echo that sentiment, calling WFL Red Sage 506C a once-in-a-lifetime, irreplaceable cow.

“Since we’ve owned her, she’s just clicked with every bull we’ve mated her to, which is unheard of, really, to find the cow that can do that consecutively,” said Jordan.

“Last spring, we had five flush mates that were grandsons of Sage—we’ve never raised bulls that are that good in our lifetime. I think for us it’s her daughters that are going to carry on big time and have a large impact in our herd for the future.”

This investment has a special place in their hearts, and they’re continually grateful they were able to be a part of purchasing such a wonderful female.

“Sage was the most expensive female we’d ever bought and still is the most expensive female we’ve ever bought. She definitely paved the way for high-dollar females in the Friday Night Lights sale, and her daughters have outsold her, and her sons have made a huge impact in this breed,” he said.

“It’s been one of the best business decisions we’ve made.”

BREEDING | AI BRED TO SVS RANCHER 42H ON APRIL 3/23. PE TO DEEG AMBUSH 79K FROM APR. 23 TO MAY 20, 2023.

Never before has Sunny Valley offered such a young, yet proven donor female in the prime of her life. 932G was a standout female from an early age and it wasn’t long after she had her first calf that we knew she was the one to continue on the next generation of Sages. Sage 506C has truly done it all for our program. With over $450,000 in direct progeny and embryo sales for us alone, 932G had a tall order to live up to her mother’s legacy. Being a flush mate to the Agribition Champion, Dynasty, 932G has always given us a lot to talk about. We flushed her one time to the great SVS Tycoon and she produced 30, #1 embryos. As impressive as it is for a two-year-old to yield that number of embryos, it is far more impressive the quality and consistency of the progeny. Four sons led off our bull sale averaging over $21,000. They sold to the progressive programs of JP Cattle, McMillen Ranching, Loewen Farms and Packett Bros. We have 3 daughters from this flush as well that we bred this spring and all 3 are elite, high-quality females. We have been very fortunate to sell some high quality, valuable females in recent years and we feel 932G would rank right up there with any of them!

***SELLING 2/3 INTEREST AND NO POSSESSION***

Successful buyer will have no expenses with the exception of flushing where embryos and expenses will be 2/3 to the new buyer and 1/3 to SVS. For natural calves, the buyer will receive no expenses and receive 1/3 of sale net.

Behind every game-changing sire is a strong, productive female, and when Kirsten and Dustin Fornwald were seeking a new herd bull, the dam’s features were key to their purchasing decision.

The Fornwalds, who were previously part of Meadow Acres Simmental, have recently embarked on their own venture, DK Land & Cattle at Lampman, Saskatchewan. A powerful herd sire was just what they needed to get started, and their philosophy is that any bull they use must be out of the kind of top-quality cow they want to raise.

“We wanted a bull that had a great look, a great mother, and exceptional feet and structure,” said Kirsten.

Enter SVS Rancher 42H, who was selling in Sunny Valley Simmentals’ 2021 bull sale, and his extraordinary dam, the purebred red Simmental donor cow HLTS Sammie, owned by Canadian Donors.

“We believe that he ranks among the elite that we have ever produced,” the Sunny Valley crew wrote about SVS Rancher 42H in their sale catalogue that year, adding that his dam “is absolutely perfect in her udder structure and foot quality. She is one impressive cow!”

Upon seeing both animals in person, Dustin and Kirsten were quick to agree that they were something special.

“We went to look at Rancher when he was selling at Sunny Valley, and he honestly checked all the boxes,” said Kirsten.

“The Sammie cow, when we saw her, we just fell in love with her for all the same reasons: her phenotype, her udder quality, foot structure, overall broodiness, and a good-looking donor dam, and that sold us on Rancher.”

The Fornwalds went on to purchase this bull with Canadian Sires, and this kicked off their new chapter. Along with their children Brenna, Britt, and Briggs, they currently run 50 head of purebred red and black Simmental females, and they also farm 8,000 acres with Dustin’s parents.

The family was thrilled to be able to start their new program on such a positive note with the purchase of this bull, particularly with the consistency, dependability, and excellent pedigree of HLTS Sammie behind him.

“I think his sons are going to do extremely well, but the females that he’s making are exceptional and are going to be the cows that will be at the top of our program and likely throughout the industry,” Kirsten explained.

“I think he’s exceptional, and his mother obviously has a big role in being what he is and the progeny that he’s producing, and we’re really ecstatic that we had the opportunity to buy him and utilize him.”

This spring, the Fornwalds hosted their first bull and female sale under the DK Land & Cattle name, and the influence of Sammie stood out in the cattle that were on offer. And with the animals they’re now producing through these highly sought-after genetics, their future is certainly looking bright.

“I believe the cow family and Rancher really set us up for our program to excel into the future with the high-quality females that we’re able to retain,” she said.

“The set of bull calves that we have this year off of him, I think that they’re going to be really good for our breed and industry, with the foot quality and phenotypes, the look, the muscle, the length—everything. I think that they’re the right kind, and it’s been an excellent start for us as we venture out on our own to have a bull like Rancher to help us propel our program.”

their future is certainly looking bright

Here’s a big time herd bull right here. Rancher 42H is a special individual that is only made available to walk based on the reduced cowherd for Dustin and Kirsten Fornwald at DK Land & Cattle. They hate to see this gentle giant go but their loss is truly someone else’s gain. When you set out to hunt for your next sire that you hope can elevate your program, you have a certain list of credentials that must be met and early on we knew Rancher had a tonne to offer. First and foremost, Rancher is one of the most impressive big bulls you will ever see in the flesh as he is super long bodied, hard muscled, wide based with a foot under him that is as near perfect as can be. His presence is something to be desired as this bull gets out and travels so sound with his head held high and proud in a balanced and complete look. His donor dam is a big time cow that checks all the boxes including productivity as Rancher himself was a natural calf and the following year she raised a $42,500 high selling sister that was a highlight in the Jenna/Flirt event. His sire, Tycoon, is probably one of the most sought after Red bulls in the entire deal and has proven time and time again to be a go to sire that creates functional, real world cattle that just plain and simple get the job done. Rancher is a proven breeder with sons and daughters across the Country making a splash from both a selling standpoint and as replacements as they all carry his easy fleshing ability and powerful build. Very seldom do these proven, big league bulls become available at public auction in the prime of their life and yet here is one of the very best available in this once in a lifetime sale.

It’s no secret that Sammie 422B is a favourite amongst all of us here for her presence and phenotype added with her impressive production record, we confidently believe she is one of the real good donors in the breed. Her natural son was the $110,000 Rancher 42H who has become a great breeding bull that’s awesome in every regard. Her natural daughter was a $42,000 feature in the Flirt/Jenna sale to KT that has turned into a beautiful young cow. Sammie honestly produces as good as she looks and her matings to some of the most exciting bulls in the entire industry such as Walk the Line, Tycoon, Loyalty, Stratton, Caliber, Reddington and the newly acquired, $140,000 Eclipse is as good as it gets!

If you have asked us the last couple years who one of our favourite new red donors was on the up and coming list, guaranteed we mentioned 2416’s powerful dam. Frankie 2416 resembles her so close the way her big broad top follows down into a bold rib shape, wide pin set and awesome foot and leg structure. This powerful extra age heifer has donor credentials and we believe can make a positive impact on a program. Her big time sire, Rancher 42H, is one of the most impressive herd bulls you’ll lay eyes on and we are excited to show him off, and when you see females like 2416, it’ll be evident why.

The Pashmenia cow family is one that is always correlated to high quality stock and they are the type to always be held accountable for producing some of the very best. Add Rancher 42H into the equation and you get dependable cattle that you know will go about their business without any hassle. 21L is a real sweetheart and would be a great Junior member project both to show and create their own herd with. This well mannered female has a tonne of shape and style to back up her heart of gold and is one of the squarest made, sound, fault free packages in the offering. Wide topped, stout hipped, beautiful and attractive are a few of the many positive adjectives we have heard visitors use to describe 21L and we are very confident in her future as both a show heifer and a working cow.

Like so many in the cattle business, Kevin Carson admired the young, promising Simmental bull BGS/BM Captain Scream 63D.

This bull, owned by Black Gold Simmentals, captured the attention of the industry— as well as the Grand Champion Simmental Bull honours at Farmfair International and Canadian Western Agribition in 2017—before dying unexpectedly. While Kevin had already purchased semen on this bull, a further connection to this bloodline would be just the thing for his up-and-coming breeding program at KT Ranches.

“When I saw Captain Scream, I thought he was an amazing bull,” said Kevin, who ranches with his wife, Tracey, at Cherryville, British Columbia.

“I said, ‘I really wish I could own his mother,’ and then she came for sale, and we were lucky enough that we had that opportunity.”

The bull’s dam, RF Scream 215Z, was bred by Rancier Farms of Killam, Alberta. This red, homozygous polled female was part of the long lineage of Scream females that originated in the Rancier program. This particular female was a donor cow at Rust Mountain View Ranch in Mercer, North Dakota, before the Carsons brought her north of the line.

“When I heard that Josh Rust was selling a lot of his donor cows, I went to see what was there and saw that (RF Scream 215Z) was there. And I said, let’s try to buy her even though she’s getting on in age, and see if she’ll make some embryos,” said Kevin. “We bought three donors from Josh, and we’re very happy that we did.”

The quest for top genetics, such as those acquired that day from Rust Mountain View Ranch, guides the KT Ranches breeding program. About eight years ago, the Carsons started their purebred herd, buying donor females and focusing on Angus and Simmental genetics, and in 2022 ,Geoff and Lacey Anderson joined the outfit to oversee the purebred operation.

Today, KT Ranches encompasses 10,000 acres of deeded land and a few hundred acres of Crown pasture. While their home base is at Cherryville, they also have ranches at Lumby, Enderby, and Barnhartvale. This year, they calved out 1,200 females and held their third annual bull sale, with plans to expand their offerings to females next year.

“We want to have some of the very best cattle,” Kevin said of the goals they’ve all been working towards. “We’re like everybody else—we’re looking to find the perfect animal…We keep trying to introduce whatever genetics we can try to get these outcomes, and we’re hopeful we can continue for a while.”

While RF Scream 215Z was only with KT Ranches for three years, she left her mark on their breeding program, bringing a lot of power to her progeny, who have carried on their dam’s enviable attributes.

“She’s done very well. For an older cow she’s flushed very well,” he said. “We have more embryos in place, and everything we have on the ground right now, we really like.”

They’re especially proud of the two Scream heifers on offer in this sale, which carry with them the background of this impressive cow family.

“Hopefully, they’re going to be able to produce like their mother and pass on those genetics and make anybody’s program stronger.”

BREEDING | Open & Ready to Flush

We are very excited to finally have the opportunity to market a piece of the phenotypic standout, RF Scream 974G! It only took 5 years of convincing the Rancier family to let a chunk of her go and we can confidently say it was worth the wait! Scream 974G has been at the top of her contemporary group at every stage of her life and now as a 4 year old donor female, she is arguably the most exciting cow to ever call RF home! From our early pasture tours dating back to the summer of 2019, we knew 974G was extremely special and honestly, Garth, Ang and the kids are always very good about letting our team come in and have our pick of the litter with the one time exception of 974G herself. Which we feel speaks volumes about the cow and how much confidence they had in this female from the beginning. Her decorated show career seen her win either Champion or Reserve division as a heifer calf at every outing, many champion divisions and supremes as a bred heifer through virtual shows the year of COVID, and as a first calf heifer with her bull calf at side claimed many titles including, UFA Youth Supreme Champion as well as Lloydminster Stockade Roundup and FarmFair International Champion Simmental Female and top 5 finalist, amongst many other winning titles. Her first calf was a feature bull selling to two of the most progressive commercial operations in the country in Westman Farms & JK Bar Cattle, and her flush of calves on the ground this year are extremely exciting! 974G is one of those once in a lifetime type cows and looks 12 o’clock all the time. She is always standing perfectly set up, with her head held high showing off and we think you would be hard pressed to design a female any better. Her big time udder, awesome, big feet and bold, deep rib shape perfectly flow together and create a balanced, blaze faced powerhouse that is striking from every direction. 974G is an own daughter of Capacity 742E, whose progeny of both sexes have been so well received in the entire beef industry and she is mothered by the legendary Scream 215Z, making 974G a maternal sister to the great Captain Scream 613D. Scream 974G has a predictable pedigree with donors on both sides of her pedigree and has a phenotype that’s hard to duplicate. She is a big time donor cow that is the ideal blend of power, performance and eye appeal. This is one the most intriguing and unique opportunities to ever present itself and one you can absolutely grab ahold of with the utmost amount of confidence with a world of possibility on the horizon.

***SELLING 1/2 INTEREST AND NO POSSESSION***

Successful buyer will have no expenses with the exception of flushing where embryos and expenses will be 1/2 to the new buyer and 1/2 to RF. For natural calves, the buyer will receive no expenses and receive 1/4 of sale net.

The $280,000 Walk The Line has more than delivered in his initial calf crop and daughters like 3296 and 3317 are evident why. It certainly does not hurt that they are direct RF Scream 215Z daughters as she has been a production powerhouse with an extensive track record for outstanding progeny such as Captain Scream and Scream 974G, who you will see selling in this cow family. Both these heifer calves are extremely sound made and get out and travel with a real presence about them, they are wide based, stout muscled, soft made with great hair. These heifer calves both exhibit such a great blend of both sides of their pedigree and you can clearly see both Scream 215Z and WTL’s donor dam, the great Darlin 613D as you analyze them. From their big fluffy ears, beautiful skull, added rib shape, bone mass and just overall attractiveness, it’s evident this combination will be one to replicate over and over again. These females would make big time show prospects and the cow power backing them speaks for itself in how they will be in production. These Walk The Line cattle are big time exciting and the Scream productivity is one of the greatest in the industry and this is your chance to bring it all together in Scream 3296 & Scream 3317.

I (Jordan) will be the first to tell you that I thought Kevin may have not made the right choice when he told us he flushed 530E to Bravo and of course it had to be one of her biggest numbered flushes. Boy was I eating my words the first week of January in 2022. 800K was the only Bravo/Scream born last year and she stood out as a favorite in the heifer group all year. We do have more on the ground now both in AB and SK and look forward to the first bulls to sell in February ‘24. 800K is maternally driven with a great look and soundness from top to bottom. We are excited to be able to have her stand amongst the “Scream’s” come August 25th.
