Crossroad Farms 11th Annual Bull & Female Sale

Page 1

WELCOME from Crossroad Farms We warmly extend an invitation for you to attend our 11th annual bull & female sale. Thank you to all the bidders, buyers and repeat customers from our past sales. Whether you live local or have traveled a long distance, we truly appreciate you taking time to attend and look forward to assisting you with your future bull needs. Feel free to stop by the farm anytime, we are always available. Tell us about your program and we will try to help you make a choice that will work best for you. Simmental genetics have so much to offer, superior maternal traits and performance to produce heavy weight steers and top end heifers to fill the demand for replacement females. Choosing a herd bull is one of the most important choices a cattleman has to make. A good bull will pay for himself when you sell his first set of calves. A poor bull, and especially if you keep your replacements, will cost you for years. It really pays to buy the best genetics you can. Our sale offering is strong with a very good selection from calving ease to performance. This yearwe have some exciting transplant sons on offer sired by Spartacus, Vegas and Combustible. Crossroad Black Sox, Degree, Nascar, Navigator and Ferrari are bulls we raised that also have excellent sons on offer. The Paparazzi, All In, Revelstock, LWC Hemi, Scout and Bolero sons that were so popular at last year’s sale are back and the exciting new Philosophy and Premium sons will also make their debut for 2017. Several AI sires were also utilized to offer you the very best selection possible. We are also pleased to offer a good representation of our herd in the heifer section allowing you to expand your herd with some interesting genetics and just in time for breeding season. If there is a bull you are interested in but are unable to attend the sale, just let us know and we can assist you in bidding or contact anyone of the capable sales staff to bid on your behalf. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday February 22nd. Come early and enjoy a home cooked meal and some Crossroad hospitality.

The Woytiuk Family

On February 25, 2016, the morning after our 10th Annual bull sale, we lost our son, brother and Uncle Corey. Our Corey was special in so many ways and his absence is surely felt. He taught us patience, perseverance, determination, strength, unconditional love and to appreciate the simple things in life. There was nowhere in the world that he was happier than on the farm. His legacy will always be a part of Crossroad Farms. Thank you to our family, friends and customers for the calls, texts, emails and cards of sympathy and support. This business is truly like family.

An incredibly good bull and one of the family favourites. He has shown admirable qualities since birth with his excellent body type, a big rear quarter, is wide topped, loose hided, has great colour and a ton of hair. Windfall is another great son out of our $43,000 homo polled Paparazzi herdsire that has consistently sired a great set of calves for us over the last three years. Twenty sons have sold in the past two years averaging over $10,000 each and daughters continue to be our high sellers. Windfall’s dam has good fertility always calving in early January. Her last year’s Paparazzi daughter was the pick of the herd chosen by Rafter 4-T Simmentals from Hairy Hill, Ab. You can expect an above average calf crop from your Windfall sired calves and he will build you a new generation of foundation females that will influence your herd long after he is gone. We are pleased to offer this high performance Paparazzi son, and we will definitely be putting some of these genetics back into our herd. Windfall will be a real contender on sale day! ~ Homo Polled ~

Here is the only other Paparazzi son we have to offer this year and he is very similar to the lot #1 bull, full of performance, deep sided and wide topped. You can’t help but admire how loose made this bull is along with his big hip, super hair coat and large testicles. His Red Label mother is a consistent producer with two daughters in the herd, a son selling to Hairy Hill Cattle Co. and she also has the distinction of being the dam of Crossroad Degree, sire of several lots in this sale and also the sire of our $22,000 high selling female at the 2016 Source sale going to Westgold Farms and Rusylvia at Minburn, Ab. If you want to elevate the status of your cow herd and sell an above average calf crop, check out Walker, he could be the bull you’ve 3 been looking for. ~ Homo Polled ~

We are very pleased with both sons and daughters from the Vegas sire. Daughters are stylish and his sons are stout with wide tops on moderate sound structures and have good performance. This stylish Vegas son was mothered by a jaw dropping, finger pointing Crosby daughter that has placed two daughters in the herd that are even more stunning than she is. Her first calf was Crossroad Pipeline, purchased by Hairy Hill Cattle Co. for $16,500. Bred early to Westcott, I expect she will be raising another good one. Voltage has a lot to offer, moderate birth weight, a ton of growth, great hair, colour, style and backed up by consistent genetics that are guaranteed to work. He would be an excellent choice for your next herdsire. ~ Homo Polled ~

Pictured on November 15th, you can certainly see the potential this impressive LFE Vegas son displays. Full of natural muscle, depth of body, soundness of structure with good colour, an excellent disposition and a ton of style that completes the credentials of this future herdsire. Weaned off of his Stubby dam Sept. 10th at 990 pounds adds even more volume to this good bull’s pedigree. Crossroads will definitely be putting some of these genetics back into the herd. This is a bull with qualities that we certainly appreciate and feel he deserves serious consideration. ~ Homo Polled ~ 4

We were very happy to be part of the LFE Vegas syndicate and have access to semen on this high priced bull purchased by Labatte Simmentals & Oberle Bros. and we are looking forward to more of these good calves being born in 2017. Crossroad Nascar does it again! He consistently sires early maturing, hairy, rugged, deep sided, loose hided bulls that will sire a thick set of calves like you have never seen before. Mothered by an extremely good uddered young Esposito daughter whose first calf sold in last year’s sale to Riverbend Colony at Waldheim Sk. for $8,500. Can hardly wait to see her next calf due in early January to the $165,000 WFL Westcott, should be interesting! Outlaw is full of performance and correctly structured, has a thick hair coat, great colour, big testicles and a good disposition. Crossroad Nascar is a homo polled bull we raised and co-own with Doug & Darlene Krepps from Turtleford, Sk. You really have to appreciate the total mass that these sons show, their natural ease of fleshing ability is not always easy to find. Overdrive is a lower set dark red bull with good performance. Mothered by a full fleck Cornerstone dam that has left us with two incredibly thick, good uddered daughters in the herd. We are certainly pleased with the job Nascar has done for us and we look forward to see one of his sons excel in your herd too. 6

The Crossroad Black Sox bull, sire of lots 21 & 22 is also a son of Nascar, and you can sure see the consistencies in this blood line. Octane is the 10th calf born to this 12 year old Crossroad Amigo sired, fleck influenced female. He is the 6th top end bull she has raised and he is good, showing excellent performance pictured here at only 11 months of age. Size matters when you are selling calves. And again very impressive numbers on this guy with an actual Sept. weaning weight of 1040 pounds. Mothered by a stylish good uddered Radium daughter that has produced a herd bull for Ockerman Simmentals from Lindbergh, Ab. and a bred heifer at the 2016 Source sale was purchased by Ferme Sibelle from Quebec. She is bred again for early January to Crossroad Subaru, who was our high seller at last year’s bull sale, and we are certainly excited to see these calves! Good performance from this 75 pound twin. You will like him on sale day, he is definitely better than his picture. He is a very stylish blaze faced bull with good structure an excellent hair coat and wonderful disposition. His dam has raised sons for Circle M Farm at Birtle, Mb. and Degenhardt Bros. at Goodsoil, Sk. One of her daughters, that is now working in the herd, started out as a 4-H project for our granddaughter Shelby and another daughter was purchased last year by Allan Tkatchyk from Ashmont, Ab. Here is a quality bull that is going to make a heck of a herdsire. He will put a little EXTRA into your next set of calves!

Sired by Crossroad Black Sox, a bull we raised and sold at our 2015 bull sale to the Arnold’s at Leewood Ranch. They are very pleased with his calves and we will certainly be pulling a few more Black Sox straws out of the tank in the spring too. Red Radar showcases incredible muscle and power. Pictured here at only 10 months, you can see his extreme length and thickness in all the right places. His dam raised the Calypso herd bull for Crystal Springs Colony and another excellent son was purchased by Riverbend Farms. Red Radar comes from a very strong cow family and has the same grandam as lot 35, Black Beau. The females from this family have been producing powerful bulls for many generations. Real consistency here, and an excellent combination of genetics to buy in to. Red Radar will be an impressive herd bull and sire a tremendous set of calves. 12

Here is another son of the homo polled, hetero black Crossroad Black Sox we sold in our 2015 bull sale. Black Sox is a son of Crossroad Nascar, sire of lots 8,9,10 and 11, so you can see where all the powerful presence comes from in these bulls’ bloodlines. This Red Sox bull is very good. Loose hided, muscle throughout, great hair coat, colour and good testicle development. Sure have to appreciate this guy’s mother. She is quite moderate in size, very correct and square in her lines and she puts everything she has into her calves. She has good fertility and is due again by mid- January, this year to Wheatland Kill Switch. Her last year’s bull calf sold to RCM Cattle Co. at Wrentham, Ab. and we have one daughter working in the herd and she is the dam of the Black Mile bull also in the sale. If you are coming to buy a good bull, mark this one on your list. He has a ton of potential with all the credentials to be the best bull you have ever owned.

Erixon’s recently sold a Reckless heifer calf at the prestigious Friday Night Lights sale going to Australia for $40,000. This is the first set of Reckless calves and we have two Red and two Black bulls on offer this year. Masterplan was mothered by our 12 year old elite Rosemary cow, she has raised eleven January born calves with a Westcott baby due again for January. Can’t argue with that fertility! Her udder is good and she shows no signs of slowing down, she belongs to one of our very best producing cow families. Her last year’s good bull was purchased by Nelson Family Ranches at Stirling, Ab. Barry Labatte and WJ had purchased her Black Bolt bull in 2014 and the Mader Ranches “Twinkle” cow is also one of the several good Rosemary calves we have sold. We purchased Lotto embryos out of the elite Linette cow at the Blacksand dispersal and are certainly pleased with this result. He is tremendously long and thick, has a good foot under him, a beautiful hair coat and a good disposition. A lot of substance in this quality bull, and like several other bulls in the sale we will be collecting semen for in herd use, we will definitely want to see some of these genetics back into the herd. I think Black Lotto will sire some tremendous females and add performance and style to your calves. Sirius is a very complete big bodied full fleck bull full of Spartacus muscle and performance. He has a tremendous hair coat and good testicle development as all these Spartacus sons do. Sirius was raised by a powerful Sinatra daughter, Crossroad Sinatra was a bull purchased by Doug Marjoram and Windmill Stock Farm, and we sure wish we would have used him more. This cow gets the job done every year. A full brother sold at last year’s sale to Paul Murray Farms & Maxwell Simmentals. She has placed two exceptional daughters in the herd, another was selected by KSL Simmentals at Beaverlodge, Ab. and a son was purchased by Southridge Stock Farm at Vermilion. We both agreed how easy these calves are born and how fast they grow. We have eight impressive sons for you this year. Slugger was pictured at only ten months of age and you can see the natural Spartacus muscle developing. He is an embryo transplant and a full brother to lots 50 and 51. Our granddaughter Olivia named this one Simba, thank goodness for grandkids and their input on the calf names! She has placed three strong females into the herd and is due to calve again in mid-January to Crossroad Subaru. Candidate is a stylish bull with an excellent muscle pattern, good structure, testicle size, colour and disposition. He would be a very good candidate if you want to inject maternal values into your herd and sell deep sided steer calves in the fall.

We purchased the Little Willow Creek Hemi herdsire a few years ago at the Source sale. He has really matured into an impressive herdsire and we are sure pleased with his calves. Lancaster’s dam is a 14P Evan/ Metro combo that makes this bull very strong maternally. We have two good daughters working in the herd with other progeny purchased by JMR Farms at Goodsoil, Dry Creek Simmentals at Loon Lake and KSL Simmentals at Beaver Lodge. Good performance, large testicles and good disposition are just some of the excellent traits Lancaster will pass on to his calves.

He looks very much like his stunning sire. He was mothered by a young BHR Baron/ Crossroad Sinatra cow. Her first calf was purchased at last year’s sale by Millard Farms from Livelong, Sk. This is the first set of calves from our impressive, well balanced, great coloured $40,000 Philosophy herdsire and we do have some good ones. Partner’s dark cherry red Chesapeake dam was a $29,000 high seller at the 2015 Friday Night Lights sale and is co-owned with our friends at Groupe BBBG in Quebec. She is flushing well and we are all looking forward to her production in 2018. Being an October born dam, Partner is her first calf and she raised him well. He is a compact, neat made bull and we really like him, good colour, big wrap around goggles, sound on his feet. We think as a mature bull his stature will be stunning. Study this pedigree and you will find tremendous maternal strengths that make this future full fleck herdsire a very interesting find. 34

Grandkids said he has funny spots! Rather unique some would say? We say, that if the white splashes don’t bother you, you are going to own a very thick bull that will be very affordable. Normally the knife would have come out, but he was thick like a little baby buffalo and needed to stay a bull. Gerald calls him his meat machine and Jody has another name for him. OPEN REPLACEMENT HEIFERS We had more heifer calves born than bulls this year so we have a bigger selection to choose from. We are pleased to offer 21 solid replacement females, 3 blacks, 8 full bloods, some are full flecks and 10 reds. I think we have selected something for everyone, with consistent producing bloodlines that represent our herd. They are as good as you will find anywhere and we are confident they will be productive females for their new owners. We are proud of what some of the females we have sold at previous sales have done for their new owners. Several have gone on to produce high selling progeny. Born a 75 pound twin and sired by Bolero who was an excellent choice to use on the moderate framed, perfect uddered Tuxedo dam resulting in this stylish heifer. Bolero along with his paternal half-brother Spartacus were purchased in Quebec from Ferme Sibelle, and we are very pleased with the calves they are siring. This is our first set of Bolero daughters to calve and the udders look very good. Great colour, hair, extra pigment, good genetics, here is Dandy, a full fleck female with a real promising future. 44

A real sweet young full fleck heifer here with a thick hair coat and wrap around goggles looking very stylish in this picture. Again, sired by the powerhouse Bolero who was admired by all that toured the Crossroad Pastures this past summer. Mothered by a moderate framed, good uddered, mild mannered 14P Evan transplant female. She is due to calve to Spartacus January 15th. We have her first calf, a Bravo daughter, retained in the herd. A real complete package, one that we like and hope you do too.

Well, Hello Dolly! I wonder if Col.Steve Dorran could hum us a few lines of that old tune from up on the Auctioneer’s block? Here is a heifer that is not only capable of raising bulls but she will leave you tremendous daughters that will be the foundation of your herd for many years to come. A Bolero daughter full of qualities that we all look for, thickness, length of body, good square hip, great hair and mothered by a strong dam backed by generations of producers. A real sound investment here.
