Welcome to our 10th Anniversary of our Open Book Invitational Sale. In celebration we wanted to have a live sale right at our ranch. We wanted to have an event where all of our friends, consignors and customers could join us and enjoy some great fellowship. We have enjoyed our online sales over the years; however, we thought it was time for us all to come together. Take this as your personal invitation to please join us Saturday, November 19th.

When we look back over the last decade and think about where the sale started and what it has grown into today, it is something we are very proud of. We are really proud of how well the cattle have worked over the years for their new owners. The number of females that have gone on to be profitable and have a positive impact is very rewarding. Possibly the most impactful female we have sold was in our first sale, Bar-E-L Erica 74A. She sold for $9000 to Blairs.Ag and later Blairs West joined in. Erica won Agribition and has earned her way into one of the most recognized cows within the breed. In our first sale we also sold Brooking Beauty 322 who raised a daughter for $72,000. In our second sale we sold Brooking Annie K 390 and she went on to raise the $95,000 Brooking Firebrand 6068. In our third sale we sold Brooking Queen 5067 to W Sunrise and she sold a son this past spring for $115,000. I really could carry on for a while, but I wanted to say what just the first few sales did. We can’t wait until for the 20th Anniversary and look back.

We have always shown some of the sale heifers at Agribition the week after the sale and they really have been dominant. The sale heifers have been grand or reserve in almost every division they have entered since 2013. They have also had two Grand Champion females, two Reserve Grand Champions and a Supreme Champion at Agribition. It has been enjoyable to be successful with the heifers but seeing the consignors or the new owners of the heifers beaming after a win has truly been the rewarding part for us.

This sale would not have had near the success or depth of quality without the consignors that have always stepped up and supported it. Over the years we have developed great friendships with many of the consignors and supporters of this sale. A thank you does not seem like enough to show our appreciation for you making this possible.

We would also like to thank everyone who has helped us over the years getting the females halter broke, clipped, pictured, videoed and shown. The list is really long and I am scared of leaving some names out but you all know who you are. We also would like to thank Scott and Becky Bohrson and their staff for everything they have done. We value their friendship and their company has no comparison.

In all honesty the fir st sale was created mostly to generate some cash flow. We had just started on our own in 2012 and really did not have much. We started the sale to make some money to make our loan payments and pay for our operating expenses. Over the years the sale has helped our operation develop into what it is today. Anyone that has helped to get to this point we truly say thank you.

DELIVERY

Brooking will assist in coordination of delivery and get heifers to central points within a 300km radius of Radville. All heifers can be delivered to Agribition. US purchases: Brooking will provide necessary health papers and deliver to a central point in North Dakota. All Juniors and their families that purchase are welcome to come to the ranch and we can assist you in a workshop that covers all aspects of the showring-feeding, daily hair care, showmanship, grooming and clipping.

As you flip through the next few pages before Lot 1 begins, you will notice the impressive accolades listed of past sale graduates track record in the show ring. The backdrop pictures shown of all the Division Champions, Grand Champions and Supreme Champions from 20132021 is truly commendable and although that is just a small example of the show ring success in the grand scheme of it all, maybe the most exciting part is as you study the pedigrees and read the footnotes of the cattle in the sale. So many of the cattle in the sale are direct descendants of cattle that have sold in the sale over the last 10 years. One of our personal favourites is the lineage on lot 10 ( fitting for the 10th anniversary) as her dam was the past Lot 1 female selling at $30,000 from the very first Brooking Invitational and is still producing high quality offspring today. This is just one example and as you study the book, you will see many of the cattle do stem back to lots purchased through this very event. I think the many instances that this is shown just speaks deeper to the quality of the offering, because even though Brooking is the “program that produces banners every single year” its also the program that produces generation after generation of donor quality and front end cow prospects. These cattle will be extremely difficult to show against and then will ultimately hop into production and let you reap the rewards.

We are very excited to announce we will be doing another donation heifer. Last years format was so well received we thought we would do it again! We are going to give away one of our top end heifers to a junior between the ages of 8-18. To win the heifer, an entry needs to be purchased in the name of a junior that is an active member of 4-H or a junior association and is a Canadian citizen. We will draw a name and that lucky junior owns the heifer! 5 more names will also be drawn and they will receive up to $2000 bursary to purchase a heifer (heifer calf or bred heifer) from any breeder, (purebred or commercial) in Canada. Proof of purchase is required. The funds will be transferred directly to the seller of the heifer. Purchase must be made by December 31, 2023. A maximum of 100 entries for $100 each will be on offer and all the money raised will be donated directly back to our juniors’ future herds! The Partington family has been great supporters of this female sale and have built a very good Angus herd. If you’re around Vermilion make sure to stop in and take a tour. Side note, check out the awesome Bank Note bull calf they have. Anyways here is an easy fleshing, massive ribbed daughter of the $45,000 Brooking Sooner. Sooner is popular for his performance, high-end phenotype, impressive epd tabulation, and everyone loves his perfect uddered dam. Country Lane Lady Ann 36K has all the makings of being an impressive cow even by the most discriminating Angus breeder.

Renovation has become one of the most popular bulls in the breed for his consistent ability to sire easy fleshing, deep ribbed and maternal females that drop gorgeous udders. WFL Clova Pride 64K fits that criteria with a little added look from Firebrand on the bottom side. With the passing of Renovation and limited semen available these Renovation daughters will become collector items.

We are excited to have this solid made, great haired, straight lined and square hipped heifer from the good people at J Square S. This heifer is one of the more attractive Alcatraz daughters you will come across. Jordan bought the dam as a calf and she much resembles her daughter at the same age. The dam is a flush mate to the $50,000 Brooking Gold Coin who was in the top ten at the Supreme at Agribition and top 5 at the Farmfair Supreme. The grandam is the very impressive SAV Emblynette 4223.

This young March heifer has all the bells and whistles to make a great show heifer and future productive cow. She is quiet, soft haired, well-made, pretty headed with a sweeping rib cage. Brooking Rose 2135 is a moderate-framed tank of a heifer that is a daughter of the $63,000 Brooking Rendezvous 8081. This well-made heifer has as much fuzzy hair as any in the sale, is gentle natured and comes from one of the most prolific cow families in the breed. These Brooking Emerald daughters are absolute knockouts! Brooking Rose 2072 has been the leading choice of many visitors. She is moderate framed, massive centre body, wide hipped, with an absolute beautiful and clean front end. Along with Canadian Donors we purchased the pick of Rust Mountain Views calf crop and it was an easy choice to select Rust MS Rose 8550. It is extremely hard to make cattle built like this and yet the Rose cow family does it time and time again. If you’re looking for a future donor, make sure this heifer moves to your place.

Brooking Annie 1109 is well-made, balanced in her structure with ideal udder development. Her dam was purchased by Roger Reynolds’s, CSI Angus and is among the top Renovation daughters. Sired by SAV Clevland who’s dam is one of my personal favourites at Schaff’s. Brooking Annie 1109 is line bred Right Time, Density, Blackcap May cow family and Madame Pride cow family. A genetic treasure that has a very nice maternal sister in this sale.

AI bred to Belvin May City 0136 on Apr 15/22. Due Jan. 22/23. The performance leader of the sale. Brooking Magnolia 1005 was our heaviest heifer at weaning and is overwhelming in her mass and power. She is long bodied and excels in shape and dimension. She has the look of a powerful breeding piece and gets the attention of a lot of visitors to the ranch.

Brooking Polly 1010 is a daughter of the $95,000 Brooking Firebrand 6068. This heifer is stylish, deep bodied, good footed with nice udder development. Her dam was purchased from Poplar Meadows and is extremely easy fleshing and is a pain in the butt quiet. Bred to Belvin May City 0136 owned with Canadian Sires. He did an excellent job breeding this season and we really like his dam and grandam. They are the kind of cows herd sires need to be out of.

It’s hard to find his muscle shape and design in a multigenerational calving ease package.

AI bred to Koupal’s B&B Blackout 0039 on May 15/22. Due Feb. 21/23 Brooking Miss Blackbird 1151 is a good looking and has a maternal oriented style. Her sire Brooking Golden Ticket is a full brother to the $50,000 Brooking Gold Coin who was in the top 10 at the Agribition RBC Supreme. Golden Ticket was hurt before the sale so was not able to be in the sale, but made a full recovery. He was argued to be better than Gold Coin. Sometimes these females out of lesser-known sires is a buyer’s advantage.

AI bred to Koupal’s B&B Blackout 0039 on May 15/22. Due Feb. 21/23. Brooking Duke Girl 1182 is a looker with her angular front end, straight lines and quality structure. Her dam SAV Duke Girl 8161 is a pathfinder cow with a big body and an excellent udder at 14 years of age. A full brother was the second high selling Renovation son in our spring bull sale selling to Stacey Roberts, ND for $18,000. The service sire, Koupals B&B Blackout 0039 was the high selling bull at Koupals in 2021 bull sale at $40,000. He is from five generations of Pathfinder dams.

Brooking Beauty 1210 is a moderate sized heifer with a clean front end and is a member of our Beauty cow family. The sire is a bull we kept back to use ourselves that we were really high on, being a son of Brooking Rose 201. Unfortunately, he broke his leg after breeding season so his career was short lived. There has been some extremely good operations try to buy her, but we feel she is 1019’s replacement and that next step for our Rose 1019 cow family. We think daughters from her and Renovation will be doubling down, making the ideal Angus female. The first embryos we have sold on Brooking Beauty 8187.We sold half interest in her for $47,500 to Rust Mountain View Ranch as a calf. She is an impressive female that is long fronted, huge ribbed, perfect uddered and attractive designed. She is in the same league as other Natural Law daughter’s: Bar-E-L Erica 74A, Brooking Countess 7077 and the lot 1 cow in this sale. While being shown at Agribition judge Dennis Serhienko said “This cow [Beauty 8187] is probably the best breeding piece I have seen in the entire show”. She is a powerful female and we are excited to get a lot of progeny. We have three exciting embryo options. Anthem was used because of his incredible full sister and dam. Grand Canyon is a beast and I think will compliment 8187 well. Atlantis had some really neat daughters on my tour at Montana Ranch and I wanted to get some more made.

We get almost a weekly report from someone who has seen her at Yackley’s with calls or messages to tell us how impressive she is. She is the epitome of a great Angus cow. Beautiful front end, massive ribbed, perfect in her structure with an ideal udder. Sometimes the best buys on our embryos are people who get in on some cows before they are well known. This cow is the real deal and with mating’s to Anthem and Renovation will lead to a new level of progeny.

SAV Emblynette 4223 was a $47,500 selection from Schaff Angus Valley. She’s massive in her dimension, wedge shaped, broad hipped, in a moderate frame size. She is the dam of the $50,000 Brooking Gold Coin who was a reserve grand champion bull at Agribition in 2019. She has a son by Showman who is one of our favourites in the bull pen this year. We loved SAV Anthems dam and full sister so thought it should mate perfectly with 4223. The style and calving ease of the Atlantis progeny made us decide to flush a few cows to him.
