Bohrson Team

Welcome
Welcome to our 21st Annual Bull and Select Female Sale! This is also our 47th year raising purebred Angus cattle. Longevity is just as important in business as it is in the cattle that we raise. It is one of the most economical traits we can select for. We owe so many thanks to all of our customers over the years for all of the support both as customers and as friends. We certainly acknowledge and appreciate the fact that annually 85% of our bulls sell to repeat customers.
I was once told “There’s no such thing as new customers. They might be new to you but before that they were someone else’s customers.” It is so important to us to continue to improve from one year to the next. We must stay ahead of our competitors and have a definite reason for someone new to become our customer, and for our previous customers to remain faithful to us. We take this incredibly serious and thus are constantly searching the globe for superior genetics and better ways of doing things. This year we feel we have a very strong and honest set of bulls. Some fresh new genetics and a new twist on feeding the bulls. This year we did not grow any grain silage so as such the bulls were fed strictly on hay and a screening pellet designed by Trouw Nutrition. These bulls will be presented to you hard and athletic.
We welcome your appraisal of our cattle at any time, but please be sure to join us March 11 and plan on staying for a BBQ steak dinner followed by socializing and entertainment by our very own Kailey Brandl.
We look forward to seeing you on sale day but if for whatever reason you cannot make it - the sale will once again be broadcast live on DLMS, or call ourselves or any of our capable sale staff to assist you with your purchase.
The Brandl Family

Using Yearling Bulls

We firmly believe in the use of yearling bulls and feel that it is one of the best years of their lives. It is a time when they are easy to manage and introduce to the herd and their only concern is breeding cows. When yearling bulls are managed appropriately they will perform better over time than bulls purchased as two- year-olds. Here are some guidelines for care of your yearling bulls:

• Upon arrival at your ranch, keep yearling bulls separate from older bulls and feed them a maintenance ration of 5 - 8 lbs of grain or pellets and free choice of hay. Then reduce the amount of grain so they are on straight hay or grass two weeks prior to turn out.
• Where possible try to limit the bulls to 45 - 60 days of pasture service the first year. At this time remove them and put them in a separate pasture with plenty of grass or good quality hay.
• A winter feeding ration of 3 - 5 lbs of grain or pellets plus free choice hay will put the bulls in condition and allow them to grow and develop. You will also benefit by one and probably two or more years of use out of a well-managed and healthy bull purchased as a yearling.

What makes an Canadian Angus Elite Cow?

She has a minimum of five calves, four of which must be registered, to determine her regularity of calving and ability to consistently produce calves with a superior weaning weight year after year, display early puberty, breeding and early calving, followed by regularity of calving and high performance offspring. The Canadian Angus Elite Cow Report identifies superior cows in the Canadian Angus herdbook.

We are proud of the young adults that our children are becoming and all that they accomplish. Our kids are the center of our world. Our son Wynton graduated high school last summer and attended Lakeland College in Vermilion where he took his first year welding. He is now employed at a local welding and machine shop where he repairs everything from agricultural, industrial and forestry to residential. Wynton hopes to eventually have an on-farm shop. He has already started manufacturing some livestock equipment from home.
