It is very exciting for me to put together a few words about this donation heifer, as I am the only person that gets the opportunity to be involved with the Alberta Juniors, the Black Magic sales group and Lorenz Angus on a personal basis. It is an honor to donate this heifer on behalf of the Black Magic group to the very progressive Alberta Junior Angus Association. This young heifer has a great pedigree with the eye appeal to become a show heifer for her new owner. She is sired by the breed leading calving ease sire, SAV Bismarck 5682 and out of a daughter of the high selling Remitall Stockade bull that we purchased several years ago. This exciting donation heifer also goes back to great females such as the Lady Blossom 28’02 cow. Please support our Juniors in the last of 7 Black Magic donation heifers by purchasing chances on her. Once again summer has come and nearly gone in a flash. Our calves are growing and look as good as they ever have, some of our latest genetics are working very well in our program and all in all, the cow business seems like an alright place to be right now.

We are honoured to donate this exciting young heifer to the RICHARD, JOYCE, CHAD & BRANDON Alberta Junior Angus Association, on behalf of the entire Black Magic group. I feel that it would also be appropriate to send a huge thank you out to the buyers and bidders that purchased chances on her at the Alberta Angus Association AGM, more chances will be available and she will be on display at the sale.

This year’s offering is without a doubt our strongest group of sale heifers yet. It isn’t until after these females make our own replacement pen that we then select them for Black Magic. The six females on offer are sired by bulls that walk the pastures right here at Lorenz Angus and we know exactly what they have to offer, there is no guess work involved.

Here is the first daughter of FV Pioneer 83X to sell. We purchased this Pioneer son out of Fertile Valley’s bull sale last spring as the Lead off bull that was also pictured on the cover of their catalogue, he was the high selling yearling and second high selling bull of the day. We have a small, select group of calves on the ground and we used him again this year. The calves are powerful and stout made with loads of rib shape and eye appeal. When you combine bulls like Pioneer, King and Paradigm 13U, the result is females like this one and her sister that was Champion Angus heifer calf at Summer Synergy ’12.

Welcome to the 13th Black Magic Production Sale. The past year has seen optimism throughout the Angus industry, and the cattle industry in general. From commercial calves to purebred bulls, we have seen strong prices from top to bottom.

This year we are offering a feature cow/calf choice lot, along with 12 bred heifers, and 6 fancy heifer calves. These females represent our different cow families and herdsires. There are also semen and embryo lots that feature an opportunity to acquire genetics from Belvin Tres Marias Patron 205.

Geis Kodiak 12T was purchased as one of the top bulls out of the first group of Kodiak sons to sell at Geis Angus. 12T was extremely easy calving, and he left a really nice set of daughters. We lost him after the 2010 breeding season, so Belvin Yardage 57’11 was kept this year to replace him. The dam of Yardage is a picture perfect female, who goes back to legendary sires such as 6595, EXT, Rito 2100 and Battle Cry.

Belvin Duchess 115’06 is a typical Panther daughter, with lots of rib, length, bone, and an excellent udder. Panther was the sire of Belvin Georgina 18’08, the $25,000 High Seller at the 2010 Black Magic Sale. A daughter of Duchess 115’06 also sold that year, and was one of the top bred heifers in the sale, selling to Dr. Steve Harvey. The maternal grandmother of 115’06 was Champion Female at the 2003 Calgary Stampede. The cow is bred to Belvin Warrior 6’09, a son of S A V Heavy Hitter 6347, who sold to Pahl Livestock for $20,000 at the 2010 Calgary Bull Sale.

The heifer calf on this cow is a powerful show heifer prospect, whose sire combines the Alliance and Yellowstone bloodlines.

This is an outstanding pair, with the choice of a potential donor cow in her prime, or her calf with loads of future.
