Grey Bruce Airport Shuttle (www.greybruceairbus.com) is a shuttle service that operates from the Toronto airport to Markdale and back. Their schedule can be found on their website to arrange transportation to Markdale. We will need to be notified in advance to pick you up at the depot. From there you can either arrange a car pool with others or we can arrange for you to get to your hotel. CSA PERCENTILE GRAPH The percentile graph does not show anything that is not already published on the website, it just shows the percentiles (where the animal fits into the CSA population) in a visual way. In this example, the EPD from the animal are shown on the top line, the next line shows accuracy or how much information was used in calculating the EPD, the third line shows the percentile rank or where the animal fits. 50 is right at breed average. Blue lines on the graph to the left of the 50% show cattle that are below breed average for the trait and the green lines to the right show cattle that are above breed average for the trait. In this example the sire is in the top 15% for CE. In other words, 85% of the Simmental in Canada are harder calving and 15% are easier calving. He is in the 55th percentile for carcass weight so 55% of the Simmental produce more carcass weight and 45% produce lighter carcasses. The trait is shown to the left of the graph and the percentile rank is shown to the right. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO NOTE: the graph and percentiles do not show whether an animal is good or bad, only where they fit in the population. For example, this sire had good CE and powerful growth, but very poor maternal characteristics. This is not good or bad, but simply mean that he may be a better fit to produce feeder cattle than replacement heifers. Depending on what the customer needs/wants will determine what type of cattle they need. Animals sell under the standard terms and conditions of the Canadian Simmental Association.
All Bar 5 cattle are DNA verified to both the Sire and Dam. We believe in two responsibilities deeply; 1) Genetic Integrity 2) Genetic Improvement.
INSURANCE Bar 5 Simmental Farms recommends animals bought at the sale are insured after purchase with your current insurance company.
SIGHT UNSEEN PURCHASE PROGRAM If you are unable to attend the sale but are interested in a bull, give any of the team a call and they will personally go over the bulls and your program and recommend the bull that meets your needs.
TERMS & CONDITIONS TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash, cheque, Visa, MasterCard or Debit payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made previous to the sale. ALL CHEQUES SHALL BE MADE PAYABLE TO BAR 5 STOCK FARMS. No sale will be considered valid until and unless payment made out to BAR 5 STOCK FARMS is received and cleared. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Bar 5 Stock Farms reserve full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. ALL SETTLEMENTS MUST BE MADE WITH THE CLERKS OF THE SALE BEFORE ANY CATTLE WILL BE RELEASED. BID: Every animal consigned to the sale will be sold by auction to highest bidder. DISPUTES: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved if no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The Auctioneer`s decision in such matters will be final. The Auctioneer shall have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment or who has not made proper credit clearance prior to the sale.
PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser`s risk for a reasonable length of time. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in this catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to such announcements. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: The proper Registration or Recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished. TRANSPORTATION: Bar 5 will arrange for trucking to your farm or a central point; the following normal charges will apply unless the buyer wishes to take care of shipping themselves: Local $100, Ottawa Valley $250, Quebec $250, Maritimes $350, Manitoba $300, Saskatchewan & Alberta $350, and U.S.A. $350 US Funds plus Export fees. Your purchase may stay here free of charge until October 31, then a fee of $5.00 per day will apply.

BREEDERS GUARANTEE BULLS: Should any bull fourteen (14) months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows know to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six (6) months following date of purchase or six (6) months after the bull has reached fourteen (14) months of age. The seller will have the right and privilege of six (6) months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will be suitable for artificial insemination. FEMALES: Cows represented as being “pregnancy tested, safe in calf” have been examined and declared by a licensed veterinarian and will be accompanied by a veterinarian’s certificate to the effect. They are considered breeders without further guarantee. Cows with calves at side shall be considered breeders also without further guarantee; cows and heifers represented at “bred” are not guaranteed safe in calf but they are open heifers selling as individual lots are guaranteed to be breeders. No guarantee shall apply to sucking calves. In the event a female is claimed to be a non-breeder, after having been bred regularly to a bull known to be a breeder and after having been treated by a licensed veterinarian, the matter must be reported in writing to the seller within six (6) months of sale date. For heifers under twelve (12) months of age and purchased as a single lots and who fail to conceive to the services of a bull known to be a breeder, the matter must be reported in writing to the seller before the heifer reaches eighteen (18) months of age. The seller shall have six (6) additional months in which to prove any such female a breeder and may use any registered bull of the breed available to him. Any female returned will be at the purchaser’s risk. No guarantee is given that a pregnant female will deliver live calves nor that she will carry calves full term not that the calf carried will not be mummified. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time.
EXCEPTION OF GUARANTEE: In cases where the animal is subjected to hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. SETTLEMENT: TRANSPORTATIONS CHARGES ON ANIMALS RETURNED TO THE SELLER ARE FOR ACCOUNT OF THE PURCHASER. No incidental expenses such as feed, A.I. signing fees, interest, veterinary charges, etc., will be charged by either party when making settlement. If the seller is successful in proving the animal a breeder, the said animal will be reclaimed by the purchaser at his expense. Should the seller fail to prove the animal a breeder, then the buyer is guaranteed a satisfactory replacement, F.O.B. ranch or location of origin or a refund of the actual purchase price paid F.O.B. selling point. In no event shall the seller by responsible for more than the purchase price. Should a dispute arise over the quality of the replacement animal, the Sale Management will appoint a mediator. HEALTH: All animals will have passed the required tests as determined by Agriculture Canada at sale location. It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province, state or country. ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Owners, Sale Management, nor Staff, assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of both parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.

I don’t believe you can make them any thicker under natural pasture conditions as this Throttle heifer calf. Our Throttle’s are calving with great udders and milking ability. This calf exhibits that extra extension in the front and explosive muscle pattern. Daryl saw this calf on pasture and convinced me to sell the pair and then when I reminded him this was the cow family of the bred heifer he marked, we added 23B as well. We are selling our top end of every lot at Bar 5 sale this year as we program to reduce cow numbers and profile the type of cattle we will be selling later this fall in the Future’s One sale.

The first Brawler to sell and was selected from the 20 bred heifers we have on pasture. This will be the top young cow at Destiny and has future donor prospect stamped on her. Her sire, Black Convincer, sold in a Bar 5 bull sale to Rob and Stephanie French and is still producing top end cattle. His dam, SGY 7S, is a donor cow at Destiny and is admired for her quality of udder and youthfulness. On the dam side, are three Grand Champion females, with all four bottom side dams being donor cows. The 31T dam was sold in a Future’s One Sale to Tyler Libke, who has produced bulls and females sold throughout North America. The homework started on this cow in 1999 when Ms. Deck was purchased at the Agribition sale from Ashworth Ranch. Put 16 years of engineered and successful genetics to work in one decision. These cows were flushed in the summer of 2014. Our program is to flush and then breed back as soon as possible. Therefore, they were exposed to Bigolo our exciting new herd sire in the fall, resulting in the calves at side today.
