of significance always come at the price of sacrifice” “Things It truly is a sacrifice to offer up the entire winter calving program but what is most significant to the Bohrsons is family. As life changes and the world moves fast, we are all forced to make difficult decisions and this is one of the hardest but at the end of it all, it may be the most rewarding as it will allow the Anchor B/Anchorage genetics to succeed for the purchasers and in turn, allow the growth of a summer calving program that can produce a deeper set of extra age bulls annually. There are many factors involved in making a life changing decision like this but it always comes back to “family” and what truly feels best for the Bohrson families and their customers longterm. You can’t take this decision lightly but do know that it is what is best for their program going forward to continue doing what they love and that is raising top quality purebred genetics to their valued customers annually in the annual bull sale.
Past
THE - The Bohrson family has been raising purebred genetics for 50 YEARS in Hanley, SK as Martin & Donna Bohrson acquired their first purebreds in 1974. The passion of raising the top quality genetics for themselves was bred into their 3 sons - Aaron, Jay & Scott where they are all still involved in the family farm in different capacities. In 2011, Martin & Donna hosted their retirement sale whereafter Jay & Bev continued on the Anchor B Limousin name with much success including selling the record setting Gold Rush for $60,000. In 2018, the Bohrson families rejuvenated the Anchorage Farms name that was established originally in the late 1940’s and began to operate a purebred Angus program under it. In spring of 2023, they hosted their annual 22nd Bull Sale and have been humbled to sell genetics worldwide though 5 decades of cattle breeding.
Present
THE - Jay, Bev, Riley, Sienna & Avery have poured their hearts into these programs and are very proud of the set of cattle that Anchor B & Anchorage run under. Change is inevitable and with the children getting older it does change the workload at the farm as they are very hard working individuals that pulled a lot of weight. With Riley now working in Alberta full time managing Uncle Scott & Auntie Becky’s farm plus doing sales management on top of that, he has taken on a huge role and has had great success in enhancing their programs. Sienna has now graduated high school and is attending University of Regina where she is enjoying school, social life and showing cattle in the summer time. Avery is now in Grade 10 and has a busy sports schedule but has stepped up largely around the farm pulling the weight of her older siblings. With Jay & Bev also having full time jobs on top of the farm, it has forced the hand to downsize the workload on the farm and the most logical decision is to disperse the winter calving program. On top of that, the 7 years of drought in Hanley has altered the working capacity of the farm for grass and hay production which will make a summer calving purebred program more justifiable and ensure they can continue to keep producing the best purebred cattle as they move forward.
Future
THE - The goal of the Bohrson family is to continually host the very best Bull Sale possible every spring as they truly love the social aspect of producing bulls for their friends and customers. With dispersing the winter calvers, their main focus will be to have the very best summer calving purebred operation possible at Hanley, SK and in turn, it will increase the extra-age bulls for their customers. The extra-age bulls have been in high demand in prior years and they feel that it is the ideal scenario to produce the very best product. Moving forward, it is unlikely that they will offer any females for sale and in turn that will strengthen their programs maternal strength and only build a deeper set of bulls to offer annually. There will still be yearling bulls available annually for their customers as Riley & Uncle Scott do calve in January at Olds, AB and will have a select group from the Canadian Donors line-up to ensure the customers will have the very best to access each and every year at the Anchor B/Anchorage Bull Sale. A lot of time, expense and work has been put into this sale line-up and it will be exciting to see what they can do for successful buyers. It is a life changing decision but in many years time there still will be an Anchor B/Anchorage Bull Sale that is designed to bring the community together and host a fun event alongside their friends to sell bulls to their lifelong customers. Consider this your invitation to attend the Anchor B Limousin & Anchorage Farms Winter Calving Dispersal Sale on Wednesday, December 20 on the ranch where a lifetime of breeding has been put into this exciting line-up. LOTS 1 - 80 Anchorage Farms originated in the late 1940’s with Tom & Gladys Bohrson. Tom served in WWII in the navy as a Chief Petty Officer, and upon returning to Hanley and marrying Gladys, named their farm “Anchorage Farm”, in tribute to Tom’s navy years. They raised purebred Hereford cattle in the 1960’s and always had a true passion for raising livestock. Their third son, Martin and wife Donna began breeding Limousin cattle in 1974, as “Anchor B Limousin”. Their three sons, Aaron, Jay & Scott were raised with a love of livestock and spent many years in 4H. Aaron & wife Sherri live in Dundurn and work at the base while owning some select cattle at both Anchor B & Anchorage. Jay and wife Beverly continue to breed Limousin and own some of the Angus under Anchorage as well plus manage the entire program full time. Scott and wife Rebecca have founded “Bohrson Marketing Services” and invested in Angus through Anchorage Farms and also Canadian Donors. The fourth division is now active and the three families look forward to continue building a progressive Angus program together through the summer calving season from the very best cow families in the industry. Rosewood was selected as a feature from Brooking Angus Ranch in 2021 to incorporate Renovation and the beautiful Rose 1019 donor. Rosewood has big strong feet, is soft sided, stout hipped with lots of look. He is definitely cut from the Renovation mold. His progeny have that great Angus character and both his sons and daughters come to the top of the calf crop each year.

Ozark has been our main herdbull the last couple years. He’s our go to guy that we love for his length and mass. His added depth and boldness to his rib cage, that he has passed onto his sons have made them extremely marketable the last couple years. He has put many sons into some great operations such as Gehl Ranch, Hadwin Cattle Co, Lost River Farming and Dorran Cattle Co to name a few. His daughters are equally as impressive and resemble his donor dam, 330B very closely.

The hardest used bull here in 2023 was Cool Whip as he saw a big group for winter calving and we bred every single summer calves to him as we have the utmost confidence in him. He was the lead off bull at Perrot Bull Sale and he is a typical Bloodline son with added frame and length - these are payweight cattle that crush the scale down. Cool Whip has awesome feet and is extremely sound traveling. As much as we like Cool Whip himself, we absolutely love his donor dam and anytime you get a chance to add some Beauty 333 influence into your program, you have to jump at it.

Juanada 276’16 is our selection from the big Poplar Meadows reduction last fall as the Juanada Family lead the way. The lead Juanada was the high seller to Coleman, Brooking & Canadian Donors and feel the Juanada are incredible cow family. 276’16 is very extended and powerful with awesome feet, great udder and a really sharp look. This female was purchased with the intentions of flushing. We think she is a special breeding piece and the breeding to Glacier will be epic.

One of the most productive and longest serving cow families at Belvin Angus is the Lady Blossom’s and females like 70’17 are evident why. Very practical, low maintenance, easy doing stock that are sound on their feet and legs with great, flawless udders. A really functional cow that has been very good for us. She is super sound and is very practical. She raises a great calf every year and was implanted with an embryo. The Certified progeny are very exciting at SAV and are the type to add muscle shape and performance. He was mated to the $39,000 265F who is an absolute spitting image to her legendary dam, Erica 74A. This is a great opportunity to get a very solid, registered bred heifer carrying an exciting embryo. A best of both worlds scenario. Her bred heifer sells as Lot 45.

When I first saw 605F at Wilbar she hit me hard and we selected her for the Rose Bowl in sale, I was excited to tell Justin Morrison about the Rewind daughter and he agreed that she was his pick the summer prior. Anchorage then bought her in that sale after she raised a $10,000 to Peter Alexander from Australia. Really nice piece here that will add hair, softness and power in an attractive package. Her first son was purchased her and works for DCC, we do think this cow is another one that is donor material.

We will say it again, when these Natural Law’s become available to purchase, you just have to jump on it. They are simply the right kind. That was the case with Erica 856F when we acquired her. Big centre body, large outlined with ideal udders and gorgeous front ends. This big bodied female is a model Angus cow.

We purchased 18G out of the Angus Collection after she was successfully shown to a second place ribbon at FarmFair. A real broody, stout made powerhouse in this Sky High female. She is an absolute tank that is carrying an exciting embryo. This is a great opportunity to purchase a whale of a papered female carrying an exclusive, hard to acquire mating on one of our next top donors and Panther who is all the talk for SAV 2024 Bull Sale.

9192 is one of our favourite cows, don’t overthink a big time cow like this getting an embryo. Just recently, the Supreme Female at the Royal was purchased as a pregnant recip, I ain’t saying she will win a Supreme but she’s very valuable. Her full sister brought $42,500 through Angus Collection to KT Ranches and Riley showed another full sister this past summer successfully never losing a division. Her full brothers are seeing duties at Lost River, KT and W Sunrise from our program. 0065 has been a productive donor with 43 registered progeny. She has an awesome son in the bull pen that will highlight our 2024 bull sale. We love this 9192 cow who is carrying a cool embryo calf.

Of all the ones we are selling in the sale, this one may hurt the most as Black Angel 1299 was one of the most potent dams in Canadian Donors arsenal for years. Anything you mated her to, she clicked very well with and lot 22 is a great example of that. Adding the likes of Bank Note and Annie K 9165 via Brooking Trendspotter certainly proved successful here in this beautiful design. A female with added presence and structural integrity, lot 22 has a bright future as a cornerstone cow. She was in a natural heat on the right day and got an embryo plunked into her, please don’t put embryos in her in the future as the potency of Black Angel needs to live on.

Donor material here with an Erica female that is a granddaughter of the great Erica 74A and back to the great Socialite cow family from Merit. We purchased 8H from the good folks at Blairswest and we have been very happy with her. She has what it takes to find the donor pen not only physically but on paper as well. Her mating to the great Montana Judgement, which gives the resulting calf a shot of the beautiful Joanie female truly fired us up as you think what could happen by mating a Joanie to an Erica. A pedigree we can really get behind. Royal Mint is mothered by arguably the best cow that was at Longshore’s in 38C and on the bottom side, the Mindbender bull really caused a stir and made some friends last fall at the Springcreek dispersal where so many of the Angus cows went back to this great bull. Tibbie 135J is built for longevity and is extremely sound in every aspect. We like this one a bunch.

Oklahoma has quietly gone about his business and become one of the most consistent breeding bulls there is. 2034 is good reason why so many that used him went back and used him again. Very balanced and very fault free. Cattle that just work. 2034 is square made and sound at the ground.

A gorgeous Oklahoma daughter off of lot 25. 2010 is hard to find something in you would want to change. Very square, very level from front to back. She’s full in all the right places and moves around with ease. She’s going to lay down a beautiful udder and has a very strong, maternal look.

Welcome to our Winter Calving Dispersal. We hope you can join us on December 20th. This is not our farewell - we are selling all January to March 2024 calving females. Moving forward, we are focusing on building our existing summer calving program. We will continue to strive to provide breed leading genetics in our Extra-Age bull offering in future bull sales. This sale represents an opportunity to select from our base cowherd that we are proud to showcase. This cowherd has produced offspring that we have built the Anchor B Bull Sale around and 2024 will mark the 23rd year of the Anchor B Bull Sale. Our cowherd represents docility, calving ease, and maternal strength. If you have any questions on the cowherd or their 2023 calves, please reach out & we would be pleased to tour you through them. When breeding decisions were made in the winter/spring 2023 it wasn’t with a sale in mind. We focused on breeding our females to bulls that we felt would continue to meet our bull customers’ requests. We felt that Anchor B Gold Rush 48G, B-Bar/VLE Samurai 17J ET, & RPY Paynes Hitman 67J all offered tremendous shape, performance, scrotal development & breed leading genetics that would be very exciting in 2024 both in the show & sale ring. We look forward to watching Anchor B genetics develop in your program. We have enjoyed raising our kids through the Junior Limousin program and the friendships we have made over the years. These memories will not be forgotten anytime soon and we look forward to building more with the great people of the Limousin breed. We are here to assist you in your selection and look forward to hosting you here at the farm.

“The Boss” was another one of the herd bulls we can look back on and reminisce about the positive impact he had on our operation. His presence is still felt with quality daughters like this still in production. Tremendous breed character with length and muscle shape are tied into Ava 7A. She is as easy doing and productive as ever. One of our favourite cows selling is a daughter as lot 118 and a top selection in the bred division is a granddaughter in lot 129.

Another stereotype and a classic “The Boss” daughter. As long as she is deep, as functional as she is productive. This cow has had a good calf every year. Daughters working for Cydnie Leblanc, Pinnacle View and one selling as lot 133 and a son working for Natasha Pituley’s. The daughter working for Pinnacle View was a feature female that sold from Martens Livestock at the Family Matters sale in the summer. That female is most note ably the donor dam of a herd bull for Payne Livestock.

One of the picture pens favourites as this moderate framed, big bodied female came into the pen and stopped in her tracks in about 10 seconds and cranked this beauty pose. She is just that kind. She is so nice in structure and is always set up so nice. She looks just as this picture would suggest and is a favourite amongst many. Lot 116 & her daughter Lot 126 are Scott’s favourite duo in the sale after picturing them both so quickly, he bragged on their huge rib, udder quality, soundness and perfect confirmation and continued to rave on them non-stop.

A top pick of the winter calving dispersal is this dark red power house. An own daughter of the first ever Supreme Champion Limo bull at both CWA & FarmFair. She’s mothered by the powerful lot 112 “The Boss” daughter. This female could easily slide into the top of someone’s cowherd and has a tonne of donor potential. Her bred heifer daughter is arguably the pick of the replacement pen and sells as lot 129. Most recently Eva 26E produced a $9,000 daughter Anchor B Ava 7L who sold in The Family Matters Event to Hawkeye & Roslyn. Eva’s Jan 2024 calf from Anchor B Gold Rush 48G will be a full sib to this recent heifer.

Redwood is a big time 1/2 blood, red baldy herd bull that has done a bang up job for us. He has bred extremely well and both male and female progeny are very good. His daughters are exceptional and the type to build a program around and his sons have been rugged, loose made individuals that crush the scales down. Redwood has big awesome feet, a tonne of meat and muscle and ties it all together with a great look with lots of presence.

BREEDING Exposed to Brooking Radville 2208 from April 7 May 10. Vet opinion due Feb 6, 2024 This is an in dam purchase from our close friends and beauties, the Packett Bros. We got a high quality set of females from them that Riley brags on for fertility and production as they are at 80% on conception to embryos and raise those big ol’ heavy calves that are worth more now than ever. Very good commercial female.

SIMANGUS | CSA1418710 | JAN 12 2022 | BLACK BREEDING AI Bred to Brooking Radville 2208 April 30. Vet opinion due Feb 6, 2024 Here is a registered Simmental 3/4 blood that deserves to sell with papers and we will transfer them as well. Born in Alberta and raised by another one of Riley’s favourite cows that we purchased from the Keystone Sale, this female is very good. Don’t discount her because of her poor picture, the overweight photographer was struggling after 3 days of pictures and didn’t have the patience or stamina when the commercials rolled in at the end. She really is a high quality female and recommend with ease.

BREEDING
Here is an Angus female we didn’t register because of her extra white but she still got a stick of the good stuff - check out the service to the $1,080,000 valued Coleman Glacier 041. This one carried a strong pedigree and is mated for profitability, strong young cow here. 54 COMMERCIAL

LOTS 205 - 210 Offering these 6 bred commercial heifers from the heart of our Junior program. The kids struggled with selling these beautiful heifers as they are all out of proven cows they have developed over the years but Mom & Dad do not want any January/February calvers just for fun… These females will be very good mothers and will work in a future recip program or commercial herd.
