Tribute to Murray King
As another sale fast approaches, we would like to dedicate this year’s sale to Murray King, whose dream and vision it was to always have his own bull and female sale. He worked tirelessly on each sale and wanted to do it his way, of which he did. Indeed this is a year of huge change for us and no doubt will be the hardest sale thus far. We hope to do Murray proud and his presence will be dearly missed however we know that he will be with us in every other way. Murray had a larger than life personality who always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. More importantly, he was kind, thoughtful and respectful. Murray always had time for others and was willing to not only teach but learn. Being part of the community was very important to him and he was more than happy to give back in any way he could. Whether it was to do with the farm or county council, he gave it his all. It’s fair to say Murray was a unique blend of a farmer and councilman but was always a farmer first. I don’t think there ever was a time in his life when Murray didn’t want to be a farmer. His love for the farm and his cows was his passion and a passion that he has passed on to his boys and his grandchildren. We always called him the cow whisperer, he could just whistle his magic whistle and those cows would move anywhere for him. He was also an encyclopedia when it came to the cows, he knew who they were even if they had lost their ear tags and could tell you their pedigree in a heartbeat. He believed in a having a sound, functional herd and he always had a great eye for picking out good cattle that fit right into our herd. His proudest moment was at Agribition in Regina in 2000 when they bought Gold-Bar King for the high selling record of $59,000. Murray’s goal was to develop the best quality breeding stock possible. Each year he moved closer to realizing that dream by introducing new pedigrees and sound genetics. Now with guidance from Roxena, Jim & Jodi will strive to make Murray’s vision bigger & better. In the years to come customers can be rest assured that Movin On farms will continue producing the quality livestock their buyers have grown accustomed to finding at this sale. Needless to say, Murray’s knowledge was endless and he influences us in so much of what we do and will continue to do everyday. We are truly lucky to have known and loved him and to have been loved by him in return. Although our time with him was too short, it was still far better than not knowing him at all. As we “move on”, on the farm we do so with all the knowledge, vision and love for the farm that Murray has given us. It will never be the same without Murray, his contagious personality, loving heart and genuine soul have left a void in all of our hearts. But we know that he is watching over us and guiding us as we move on.
Welcome
On behalf of everyone at Movin on Farms, we would like to invite you to join the 5th annual Movin On Farms No Nonsense Bull and Female sale on Saturday February 24, 2018 at 1:00 at the Lloyd Exhibition Grounds. This year we have some old herd sires that you are very familiar with and that we are very confident in. We also have some that are new to us and to some of you. For Red sires We bought 2 bulls from the Pasquia dispersal sale, A bull we call Throttle and bull we call Eagle. Throttle has added a lot of squareness and depth to our calves, we are very impressed at what he has done for us you can expect to see calves from him next year too. Eagle added some length and squareness of hip, it’s not hard to tell which ones are his calves. For the Black sire we purchased a bull from Michael Gerlinsky at the Lloyd bull sale, we call him Mikey. This guy added some more width and squareness to his calves we are very proud of the calves we have gotten from him last year. We have 8- 2 year old and 30 yearlings bulls coming this year, We also have 10 open heifer calves coming. We have bulls that will work well on heifers and bulls that will put some punch in your herd. All yearling calves were weaned October 15, 2017. Most of these bulls are mid-March to mid-April, making most of them 14 months old when you need them. Movin On Farms would like to thank the crew, family, neighbours, and the really good friends for helping us through this past year. It would have been a lot harder if you were not there. We would also like to say thank you to last years bidders and buyers. Just drive on down to the Lloyd Ex. and join us for dinner at 12:00 and a visit after. As we will take the bull’s home after the sale and semen test them in May and deliver them. We will also take the heifers home and deliver them at a later date. We think this is a great bunch of bulls and heifers! See you sale day at 1:00pm!
