APRIL 15TH 2020 AT 2PM New Location!

ANL POLLED HEREFORDS / STEELMAN, SK

/ Flat Top Cattle Co. / / Offering Quality

ANGUS, SIMMENTAL, MAINE & CHAROLAIS BULLS

First and foremost, we thank you for taking the time to view our catalog. We are excited to offer to you our 2nd Annual bull sale. In the summer of 2018, this sale was simply an idea, sparked over conversation between three breeders and close friends. We were very humbled last April, when our vision came to fruition and we held our 1st Annual Genetic Distinction Bull Sale. Our vision still remains the same, to supply a product to the commercial cattleman that is bred and developed for longevity. Multiple breeds are on offer, however these different programs share a common goal, to supply genetics that will ultimately generate revenue for their new owners, whether that is at the sale barn, the feed yard, the replacement pen, or long term in your cow herd.

This year we welcome two very close friends to our sale, both that share the same vision for the Genetic Distinction Bull Sale. We welcome Colten Brokenshire, Roch Springs Cattle, to the sale. Colten acquired the Valley Lodge Angus herd, and is developing an exciting group of Angus cattle, utilizing an elite set of genetics.

We would like to welcome you to the 2nd Genetic Distinction Bull Sale. It delights us to be joining our long-time friends Justin Van De Woestyne, Vandy Cattle; Shaun and Amanda Bryce and Family, Prime Angus; as well as new to the sale this year; Tyler and Suzanne Smyth, Flat Top Cattle; and our son Colten Brokenshire, Roch Springs Show Cattle.

It is a great sale combining Angus, Maine-Anjou, Simmental, and Charolais breeds. In the summer of 2018, we were all sitting around visiting at ‘the big sacred kitchen island’ where world problems are solved and all cattle talk is full of infinitive wisdom. Different breeds with common goals and philosophies ‘The Prairie Boys’ had a vision: To breed, develop and sell the style of bulls that we search to purchase for ourselves. Tableland is a family-run operation. We base our herd on low maintenance traits, and of those, calving ease is first and foremost. This mama ain’t happy if she has to mess around pulling calves. Secondly, disposition in both the cows and herd bulls is also imperative. This has been built into our program for generations. Our kids, from the time they could sit up or walk, have always been in a tractor or out in the barnyard; therefore, the need for quiet dispositions. Another trait we have concentrated on is longevity. We have customers whose bulls are routinely lasting six, seven and eight years. Replacing herd bulls due to structural break-downs and excess feed as youngsters is a costly venture. Another trait is low maintenance. We expect our cows and herd bulls to maintain themselves strictly on hay and high quality chelated minerals. NO grain, or total mixed ration (TMR); nothing besides a grass mix hay. We want them to maintain, do their job and even get fat on good ol’ hay. Those that can’t hack it don’t last long at our place. And lastly, good udders. They are a necessity, not an option. The surest way to a one-way ticket out is for Heather to have to help a calf suck off of a bad udder. That’s a guarantee permanent vacation to never-land. Ruthless culling brings about uniformity. Tableland and Roch Springs bulls have been brought along slowly. Good quality hay makes up most of their daily diet. Grain is kept to a minimum, just enough to grow, and develop. They are fed with hand filled pails. No TMR and no silage, just grain and hay. These bulls have been raised like we are using them for ourselves, and we want them to work and to last. We are raising athletes - bulls that need to get out, move freely and breed cows. We expect these bulls to go out work and then gain on grass or hay all fall/winter until next breeding season. We will offer a $100 discount off the purchase price should you take your purchase home on sale day. We ask that any bulls returning to our place be insured. Arrangements will be made for delivery by May 1st. Tableland will deliver bulls up to 300 km free of charge. If you are in the Estevan area we welcome you to stop by for a tour. We are available to discuss your herd sire requirements by phone, text message, email or Facebook. We look forward to seeing you all April 15, 2020, in Steelman, SK. ROCH SPRINGS SHOW CATTLE

ESTEVAN, SK

Colten: 306-461-6262

I am excited to offer you the first set of bulls in my possession from the Valley Lodge herd purchased in 2018 from the Roger Family. The cow herd is heavily A.I. influenced focusing on calving ease and maternal traits. A really outstanding herd of females moderate in frame, great udders, super quiet dispositions and low maintenance cattle. We feel this shines through prominently in the bull progeny that we have on offer. We are super proud of this group of bulls. Evidently they are a heavily muscled, easy fleshing, good footed, sound, and strong group. The bulls have been managed alongside the Tableland bull prospects. We pride ourselves on raising bulls to last for the long run with a strict feeding program keeping the group of bulls athletic, free moving and looking fresh. Along with a heavy culling process when selecting who makes the final cut for the sale. With that being said, we would be happy to assist you in selecting your next herd-sire as well as making new friendships. Someone is always around the ranch, feel free to call and stop in for a visit at anytime. Thank you for taking the time to view our offering. We look forward to seeing you on sale day Wednesday, April 15, 2020. We would like to help you in any delivery of any bulls purchased. We will deliver free of charge within 300 km of Estevan. Anyone who takes their bulls home after the sale will receive $100.00 off of their purchase. That being said, we also will house the bulls until May 1, 2020 if you’d like but we require that they be insured. All the best, Colten Brokenshire

Bigtop has been a favourite in the pen and admired by many who have come through and toured the bulls. Extra depth and width with an appealing side profile are just a few of the traits which allow this bull to do that. Bigtop’s dam is put together solid with a perfect udder. We are looking forward to more progeny out of her in the years to come.

These guys are not only bred right, they are built right. More bone, more eye appeal, and more hair. They are sure to put these traits in their progeny. EXAR Envious Blackbird 3881 the dam of the two young herd bull prospects was a $60,000 high seller and had a successful show career in her own right. VANDY CATTLE CO.

BENSON, SK

JUSTIN: 306-461-6031 / Nicole: 306-436-7993

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Genetic Distinction Bull Sale! We thank you for taking the time to view our offering and invite you to join us on April 15th. We are humbled and very blessed to be taking part in this sale once again this year.

We are very excited about our offering this year. Our group of bulls, however small in numbers, we feel this group is very consistent and high in quality. Our breeding program is built upon the principle of maternal power. We believe that the cowherd is the staple of any successful breeding program, and is ultimately what will set you apart from your counterparts. We’ve built our cow herd around strong cow families; powerful, big bodied females with added performance, that are easy fleshing and thrive in our environment. Longevity, foot and leg structure, and problem free udders are a must. We feel that not only do pounds and performance increase your profit margin, but the maternal efficiency of your cowherd is what ultimately improves your bottom-line. Our program is built around three breeds, Maine-Anjou, Simmental, and Angus. These three breeds we feel very strongly about their capabilities to excel in all facets of the industry. As well as the ability to work in unison in a cross-breeding program, which we witness in our program and many other reputable herds. This year our offering consists solely of MaineTainer and Maine-Simm-Angus Hybrid bulls. We feel that this is as uniform of a set as we’ve assembled. Whether you are looking to add value to your feeder calves, or add quality to your replacement pen, we believe that there are bulls in this group that can do so and leave a lasting impact in your program. Our bulls are developed on a feed program designed with the customer in mind. Our bulls are NOT fed silage. Our bulls are fed free-choice dry hay, free-choice mineral, and controlled feedings of an Oat-Corn ration designed to develop and grow our bulls rather than fatten them. We feel this is important to ensure the longevity of your investment. Once again, we thank you for taking the time to view our catalog, and hope to see you April 15th. Do not hesitate to call with any questions, or come view the bulls before the sale. We would love to assist you in finding the right herd bull for your program, whether it is ours or one of the other consignors. Sincerely, Justin VanDeWoestyne & Nicole McKim

Thank you to Riley Ingram. Riley has been a big help here at our place, helping get sale cattle ready in the fall, helping get Agribition cattle ready, and helping prep for our bull sale. Your hard work does not go unnoticed. Thanks Riley for everything you do!

FLAT TOP CATTLE CO.

SWIFT CURRENT, SK

Tyler & Suzanne Smyth: 306-741-0065

We are excited and honoured to be a part of the Genetic Distinction Bull Sale, along with our good friends. Flat-Top Cattle Co. was established in 2014, but our roots in the Charolais Breed go far beyond that. Suzanne was born and raised with the Charolais bug, on her parents’ family farm, Wood River Charolais, at McCord, SK. She is a third generation Charolais Breeder; the Blake family started their Charolais herd in 1975. Today, our matriarch females are offspring out females purchased in her teenage years with 4-H steer money; and we are grateful for Suzanne’s family to raise those females as we developed our own farm to raise our herd. Starting our own operation hasn’t been all roses and butterflies; we are working with a small land based, that we purchased with our own capital and rented pasture land. Therefore, each and every female on our herd needs to work for us. We have small numbers, but they are selected on “real world” values, with a focus on longevity, functional footed, sound structure and udder quality. We work our cattle as a family - and with small kids “helping out”, we strive to have cattle with good disposition. Cooper and Scarlet may be young yet, however; they are proving to be 4th Generation Charolais Breeders - and they love doing chores, watching cows calve and catching ears for pictures. Our bulls are hand fed a moderate ration with corn/oats/barley, protein supplement and boostered with a chelate mineral top-dress, as well as grass hay to promote the development of sound breeding cattle. All the bulls have been vaccinated at branding and weaning with Vista Once SQ and an 8-way consisting of Somnugen. Bulls have been Ivomeced at branding and weaning, as well as Sabred this spring. We invite you to call or stop in at the farm, to see the bulls and stay for hospitality. One of our favorite things to do is talk cattle. Don’t be afraid to ask the hard questions about our cattle, because no one is as hard on them as we are. We are more than happy to work with you to deliver your purchase. We hope to see you April 15th in Steelman, SK. Sincerely, Tyler & Suzanne Smyth
