My favorite sports to play are volleyball, softball, soccer and kickball. Some of my favorite activities include walking the trails, fishing at Boerne Lake, seeing movies in the park and making a big splash at Boerne City Pool. I look forward to seeing you out and about at many of our fun events.

MEMORIAL TREE PROGRAM
Looking for the gift that will last a lifetime? How about several lifetimes? With our Memorial Tree Program, you can honor your loved one for years to come and give a gift to the whole community. Memorial trees are planted in our city parks in the fall, and each tree is marked with a commemorative plaque in the honoree’s name. MEMORIAL BENCH PROGRAM Sitting on a park bench to watch the world go by is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Commemorate your loved ones with a memorial bench in one of our city parks. Each bench has space for a plaque to recognize the organization, donor, or loved one being honored.

BOERNE CHOCOLATE WALK Saturday, Feb. 9 | 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Downtown Boerne This February, take a sweet stroll through downtown Boerne. Each visit to a participating business is rewarded with a special chocolate treat, which you can store in the commemorative bag that comes with your ticket. Celebrate Valentine’s and satisfy your sweet tooth at the Boerne Chocolate Walk.

GEOCACHING EVENTS IN BOERNE Christmas Break Geocaching Dec. 21 - Jan. 7 Go on a city-wide treasure hunt during our two geocaching events. Geocaching involves using a GPS system to find hidden objects by their coordinates. During these events, we post the coordinates of hidden “treasures” on the Parks & Rec website. The team or individual who finds the most treasure wins.

• Geocaching combines travel, adventure and geography, so younger children will do best as part of a group. 10

CITY OF BOERNE SPRING BREAK SKATEBOARDING COMPETITION Friday, Mar. 15 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm | Boerne Skate Park Show off your skills at the Spring Break Skateboarding Competition. The $10 entry fee includes a TAAF membership, which allows skaters to participate in all state and local TAAF skateboard competitions. Registration and warm up begins at noon.

OUTDOOR FAMILY FAIR Saturday, Mar. 16 10:00 am - 2:00 pm | Main Plaza The Outdoor Family Fair connects Kendall County families with community-focused services and organizations. Co-sponsored by local organizations, this event is a great way for families to learn about useful resources in the Boerne area. Plus, with entertainment and activities for all ages, it’ll be a fun time for the whole family. PARENT/CHILD ART CHALLENGE Take home a prepped primed trash can to decorate. Trash cans will be placed at local parks throughout Boerne. Register online, pick up trash cans at Outdoor Family Fair and return final project at the Texas Trash Off in town.

Every team is registered with Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (T.A.A.F.) which gives you the opportunity to compete at a region and/or state level. You may even qualify for Summer and Winter Games of Texas. It also allows you to compete in tournaments throughout the year depending on the sport. This extends to our community partners such as Boerne Family YMCA, Hill Country Comets Track Club and H2Swift Boerne. WEDNESDAY LADIES CLINIC This is an adult beginner/ intermediate group. The goal of this class is to prepare players for social or competitive play. Everyone is welcome to try this sport. Rackets and balls are provided, come out and have fun. Drop-in rate $25.00 / day. Class meets every Wednesday at 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm ($80/month) TUESDAY LADIES DOUBLES CLINICS This is MIXED LEVELS 2,5 – 3,5. The goal of this class is to cover shot selection, positioning, court coverage, serves and returns. Most classes will consist of live ball drills and match play for the ladies. Drop-in rate $25.00 / day. Class meets every Tuesday at 9.00 am – 10.30 am ($80/month)

Introduction to tennis, a sport that lasts a lifetime. The goal of this class is to teach our students all five basic strokes in tennis. Future Stars

Description: Students in this class will learn to do all beginner-level skills independently. They’ll continue learning about water safety and master more swimming fundamentals, including bubble blowing, breath control, floating, gliding and kicking. Lastly, they’ll learn and coordinate the arm and leg movements of both front and back crawl strokes.
Description: Students will increase their competency in freestyle and backstroke. This includes coordinating alternating arm actions with proper kicking technique. Students will also be introduced to side breathing, treading water and becoming oriented in higher depths.

CIRCUS ARTS FOR KIDS Did you ever want to run away and join the Circus? This four week program will introduce you to a variety of fun and easy circus performer skills. Each session will focus on a different type of skill.
Intro to Circus Arts (Session I): Learn the basics of balancing, juggling, poi and rolling globe. We’ll also cover beginning aerial skills on the single trapeze, lyra and silks, as well as teamwork, general fitness and safety. Circus Arts Aerial (Session II): Take the next step in the aerial circus skills on the static trapeze, lyra and silks. We’ll also focus on flexibility, conditioning and core strength. Aerialist makeup and costume design will be explored. Circus Arts Balancing and Juggling (Session III): Learn the basics of balancing on rolling globes, rolla bollas, mini wheels and more. Add a bit of juggling to your act with scarves, balls and clubs. Step it up a notch with spinning poi and hoops to make your act complete. Circus Arts Finale (Session IV): Round out your Circus Arts education with more advanced skills like stilt walking, partner acrobatics and unicycle. Located at the corner of Water St. and Highland St., Kinderpark, formally known as “Optimist Park”, was developed in 1997 with the support of the local Optimist Club. The Optimist Club supported the purchase of playground equipment and development of the site, which was an abandoned city well site.
Roeder Park is a 1.8-acre neighborhood park. As a neighborhood park, Roeder Park is designed to serve the needs of its local residents. The residents who surround the park have asked that it remain a simple green space without amenities, and so it is.
In 2016, this park received a complete make over and upgrades along with the new name “Kinderpark”. The fenced and shaded park is very popular with families with younger children. The playground is unique and exciting. The kids are having a blast sliding, climbing, swinging and just enjoying the beautiful setting under the large oaks. Kinderpark is perfect for small gatherings and birthday parties, all first come first serve. Renovated in 2014 The Veterans War Monument is a 14 foot tall monument listing the names of those who died in combat during World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Additional plaques have been added to memorialize those who lost their lives in combat after the Vietnam War. The Walk of Honor is an extra wide walkway from Main St to the center of the park lines with bricks that include names of family and friends that served or are still serving in the military. This effort provides a permanent way of recognizing those whose service has meant so much to all of us. The Walk of Honor has been extended in 2018. Limited bricks are being sold. Boerne City Lake Park is a 100-acre community park with an additional 100 acres of surface water. City Lake Park is known for its peaceful, pristine waters, which are kept that way by a city ordinance prohibiting motorized boats on the lake. Trailhead North - 100 N. Main St. @ Ye Kendall Inn Trail South - 106 City Park Rd. @ Municipal Pool Cibolo Trial Extension - 106 City Park @ Playground The Cibolo Creek Trail extends approximately 1.75 miles from the Trailhead North near Ye Kendall Inn to the Trailhead South by the Boerne Municipal Pool. The trail follows Boerne’s signature waterway, Cibolo Creek, passing through Boerne’s historic downtown and the famed Hill Country Mile. At the confluence of Cibolo and Currey Creeks, a 150 foot pedestrian bridge stands amongst the trees, offering a scenic view of the two creeks joining. The trail extends from City Park Trailhead and additional 1.4 miles thru City Park and out along the Old No. 9 railway towards Herff Falls.

The Old No. 9 also features 1.4 miles of trail headed straight through the heart of Boerne and a bridge and trail that connects the Old No. 9 to Patrick Heath Public Library. Friends of the Boerne Public Library The Friends sell gently used items at the Bookshop Under the Windmill to help support the library’s mission. CIBOLO NATURE CENTER & FARM
PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES TO CONNECT WITH NATURE 140 CITY PARK ROAD & 33 HERFF ROAD Located in the heart of Boerne, the Cibolo Nature Center and Farm (CNC&F) is a 160 acre natural area that boasts over 100,000 visitors every year. From serious trail enthusiasts to families with young children and dogs, everyone can find something to enjoy. Whether it is school field trips, summer camps, educational and research programs, shopping at the farmers market or taking a family hike, the nature center offers new experiences and opportunities to connect with nature.

Herff homestead and beautiful gardens and trails. TRAILS The CNC&F offers miles of trails for all ages and abilities. Visitors can enjoy approximately three miles of trails which covers a variety of natural landscapes.
For 30 years, the CNC&F has been an area where all ages can enjoy one of the few remnants of a vanishing wilderness.
PROGRAMS Designed for all ages, CNC&F programming includes conservation seminars, stewardship workshops, outdoor concerts, field trips and more. Exciting children’s programs include summer and spring break camps, Kid’s Club, Little Explorers and so much more.
The addition, the Herff Farm, a historically and ecologically important part of the park, serves as an extension of the Nature Center. The farm is home to the Farmers Market at the Cibolo, the historic
STEWARDSHIP Protecting a piece of vanishing Texas wilderness for future generations is a primary goal of the CNC&F. The Nature Center collaborates with many agencies, organizations and
individuals to address concerns of the Cibolo Creek Watershed. The Cibolo Creek, lined by tall Cypress Trees, is a critical habitat for wildlife and an important source of water recharge for the region. The creek also doubles as an outdoor classroom during educational programming. RESEARCH At CNC&F, Citizen Science is used to track environmental changes. Individuals from all walks of life get involved counting birds, butterflies, snakes, frogs, surveying vegetation, assessing water quality and many other endeavors. DINOSAUR TRACKWAY Millions of years ago, huge dinosaurs roamed this area. The CNC&F displays dinosaur tracks that are a replica of tracks found nearby. The tracks are now preserved for all to see VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES The CNC&F continues to grow today thanks to the hard work and care of hundreds of volunteers. It simply would not be here if it weren’t for the good-hearted, hard-working, nature-loving people that makeup our volunteer force at the CNC&F. Volunteer opportunities are always available.

ESTABLISHED 1867 Frederick Street & 700 North School Street The Historical Boerne Cemetery is owned, maintained and operated by the City of Boerne. The cemetery, recognized by the Texas Historical Commission, is the final resting place for many early German and English settlers of the Texas Hill Country. Each year on Memorial Day, more than 700 veterans buried at the cemetery are honored by a memorial service held by the local Boerne chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. During the service, an American flag is placed on each grave. Please note that you need a permit to plant trees and shrubs, install benches and monuments. Permits are issued at no cost from the Parks and Recreation Office.

BIGTOOTH MAPLES PROJECT
RESTORING BOERNE’S FORGOTTEN INHERITANCE. The Native Plant Society of Texas, Boerne Chapter, is reintroducing the Bigtooth Maple, a historic natural treasure of the City of Boerne. Planting these lost trees will enhance the local landscape and establish Boerne as a premier destination for fall foliage viewing. Each year, a limited number of Bigtooth Maple trees are awarded to qualified organizations, businesses, and Boerne residents for planting within the city limits and along the entry ways to the city.
